This is skunk-cabbage. It is a low-growth leafy plant, usually found in wooded, marshy areas. As a member of the arum family, its flowers share similar characteristics with jack-in-the-pulpit and calla lilies. It has a very pungent odor, hence the name "skunk" cabbage.
Lots of arum plants have nasty odors. The titan arum, one of the largest flowering plants in the world and notoriously difficult to cultivate, is also known for its terrible smell. Another arum plant, the voodoo lily, also smells like fermented roadkill. Skunk cabbage isn't as nasty, but it can raise a good stink.
Skunk cabbage doesn't glow in the dark. In the story, it glows, but because something is wrong with it.
