One thing is for sue, I need to change the Phoenix Armor name so it can match the water one.

Now that I remember, X8 armor name were Icarus and Hermes, so going with Greek deities is a good idea.

Fire: Apollo (Sun but can still work), Hephaestus, Hestia, Prometheus
Water: Poseidon, Oceanus, Triton, Proteus

Am I forget any?

Good matches would be Hephaestus/Hestia/Apollo and Poseidon for the 12 Olympian Gods.
Prometheus and Oceanus which both are Titans.

Is there any lesser fire/sun god to go with Triton or Proteus, because those sound much better for armor names. =]

I say keep the Phoenix Armor name and change Water to Undine or something. That way they correlate by both being named after mythological animals.

I still liked Nereid Armor for the Water one, in terms of mythical water creatures, but I would keep Phoenix Armor and use Proteus Armor for the water Armor.

You should keep the name Pheonix armor. it really sounds cool, and powerful.
Nerid Armor sounds good, and Bahamut doesnt sound half as bad either. I mean, half a dozen references can be made for pheonix also, so whats the big deal. I suggest the name Nautilus. not mythological, but still water. Kraken armor would have an interesting ring to it too.

Thanks for all the ideas.
Seem that most of you want to keep Phoenix and I as well so I gathered the names I like with a more open mind including half creature half animal also.

Siren - I think this one is better than Nereid for an armor name, doens't sound too bad
Triton - Merman
Hydra - Would be cool if the full armor would have some ability related with the multiple heads
Ophion - Just found this one, not sure if I should count him in, couldn't find his body description but his name means serpent
