Short introduction for those unaware: Lets Play is basically a person (or group of people) playing through a video game with commentary. It can either be informative, funny, or both. They mainly exist in Video form but for some games a Screenshot LP's exist (Primarily RPGs). These originated on Something Awful and are still highly popular to this day. Examples of great LPs: Sonic 06 by Pokecapn(Somebody get me some more!) Of course, with good LPs there are also the bad, and outright terrible, LPs. For those, we have Restupurae and Chip and Ironicus, which riff on things from awful Camcorder LPs, to the comically bad framerate LPs. Though that's not all they do. Retsupurae's YT ChannelChip and Ironicus' YT ChannelGame Grumps are kind of Lets Plays... I guess. Though Egoraptor and Jontron are far funnier when they're doing their own things. Uhh, I guess that's pretty much it, sorry if it sounds a bit like an advertising plug or something. Lets see some more LPs. LP Archive: http://lparchive.orgEdit: woah, sticky huh?

I don't really watch LPs unless it's for a newly released game that I was dying to see.

For some games I use them as a basis of whether or not I should play the game.
The Sonic 06 LP for example, made me want to play 06 just to see how bad it really was. That was totally worth it.

http://chipandironicus.com/the best. Their Uncharted and MGS stuff in particular is a good ol' time. also as i said before, check out their Anime Theatre segment which began as a side bit to No More Heroes 2. they also do their own riffs on bad LPers and whatever else is an embarrassment to everyone. they semi-frequently appear in the main retsupurae videos and vice versa. can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/user/ChipCheezumSAi know there's a few other notable ones. LesBeardly was one I think edit: i generally just watch some by certain people because i quite like their style of humour and commentary, etc etc. Like, I also follow what pokecapn's group puts out such as the Four Swords Adventure LP. oh, right this link may be of use http://lparchive.org/it's where almost all SomethingAwful LPs go when finished, and so by extension a good place to find actual decent ones

How about Naka Teleei's channel? He does LPs of a bunch of games from obscure games, indie games, old-school classics and whatnot, plus I like he's one of the few LP'ers that don't swear constantly (not that I mind language, but sometimes wouldn't hurt to cut down on the cluster F-bombs now and then). So far I'm liking his LP of Zone of the Enders HD Collection; he already finished Z.O.E 1 and working on The 2nd Runner. raocow is someone else I heard of who is an LP'er that's been getting some spotlight for his non-sequitur style of commentary. AzureriteReaction ( former channel) does a variety of games, the way he uses fake accents can be quite hilarious at times, and from time to time trolls people on Call of Duty or Battlefield or something like that. He is pretty fearless from what I've been hearing about him doing LPs of horror games like Amnesia and Slender (although I haven't gotten to any of his horror LPs yet), but, he has a fear of kenophobia and anything where there's no reason or logic behind the existence of something. He posted a video explaining about kenophobia and why stuff like that scares him (and other people who played games like LSD Dream Emulator) right here in case anyone's interested.

I remember Slowbeef and Diabetus had a series of videos where they went through the "Justin Bailey" hack of Super Metroid. Unfortunately, it appears they're now long gone. Which really is a shame...those were some of the better "LP" vids around.

I'm sure there's plenty of better Super Metroid LPs. that hack is nothing more than a sprite hack anyway. REQUIRED VIEWING:

Wow, it's about time I posted something here. Watch these two breeze through this [parasitic bomb]. I don't know where James comes with the theory of it being harder than the original.

Because the original is easier. Both games can be done quickly if you know how to deal with the bullets and where the safe spots are. Also the Arcade version of Super Contra is harder even tho it's shorter, and the controls are a bit worse, you don't jump as high or precise as the NES versions.

IDK, I always thought the original was harder for some reasons, but this was probably because I've replayed Super C a lot, and never had the original at that time. The Flamethrower/Flame gun was a lousy weapon. Super C buffed it to being extremely useful (in late stages like the falling roof in area . Took me a bunch of playthroughs to discover I could charge my shot. After that, I rarely used the Spread gun, because it became less mandatory to me in Super C. But I see you say the arcade was harder, maybe I need to have a look into that myself. *looks for a Super C arcade PT*Ouch, I see what went wrong there. Posted on: May 15, 2013, 06:49:53 PM
I enjoyed watching them play this, in the absence of Game Grumps.
