Okay, here's the scoop. I am thinking of an experiment to see who are the hardcore gamers, softcore gamers, and casual gamers. Here are my requirements for each:
EXTREMIST
-Meets HARDCORE requirements
-Owns all systems
-Owns 20+ games each
HARDCORE
-Plays video games for AT LEAST 168 hours a month (one full week of time, 6+ hours a day)
-Owns at least 1/2 of all systems
-Owns at least 10 games for each owned system (unless said system doesn't even have 20 games)
-Compete in National/Internation Video Game Championships
-Meets 3 of the 4 above requirements
SOFTCORE
-Plays video games for at least 84 hours a month (3+ hours a day)
-Owns, or has played several games on, at least one of each generation's systems
-Owns 10+ games for at least one owned system (this would be overall, including crap games that got sold back)
-Meets 2 of the 3 above requirements
CASUAL
-Does not meet any requirements of HARDCORE, SOFTCORE, or EXTREMIST
So, here's the experiment. I'm curious to know who fits under which category. To do so, I would need anyone wanting to participate in the experiment to keep track of how much time they spend playing video games in a month (28 days by the calculations I used), count all of the systems they have (including the ones that were put into a box in the back room because they don't work), and count their total games per system (including games that got broken and thrown away, and crap games that got sold to stores like Gamestop). Then, post your numbers here. A bit tedius, but simple.
