Tell your father that was one show, and that that show he saw was OOOLLLLDDDDD. Also tell him on my behalf that your "normal cartoons" are even being influenced by anime, and that it's influences can NOT be changed unless some new-fangled animation revolution begins yet again.

Show him Samurai Champloo, and/or FLCL.

If that isn't awesome animation than I don't know what is.

EDIT: Or better yet, show him that new Dragon Ball Z special that's floating around YouTube. The animation on that is pretty damn good.

Ask him to watch the Miyazaki movies, Guardian of the Spirit, and Fate/Staynight or something those have some good story lines. It's not a good idea to show an adult from another generation something like FCLC or Champloo first because those are kinda of outrageous comedies and might turn them off.

Each generation younger gets more crazier, reckless, and somewhat stupid. Plus some young adults today don't keep a eye on their children all the time, despite the more dangerous enviorment the world is becoming with the type of dangerous people around.

Don't worry I'm going to raise my kids right by having them watch old good cartoons, teaching them right from wrong, and actually holding their hand when they walk with me in places,....How old are those kids aren't those game supposed to be rated M for Mature?
