I left the hair uncolored/grayish because from what I have seen, the black lanterns seem to be mostly devoid of all color, being as gray as possible. So... yeah.

However, his pale skin, red hair comes from his negative energy absorbing ability. When he is surounded by people with negative emotions, he drains that darkness into himself intentional or not. Because of that he can feel what the others feel.
His origin lies in a different dimension in which he was there the second highest divine being. He govered about destiny and death, alongside with the three lesser goddesses known as the Moirae, which he orders. The Moirae are responsible for the fates and deaths of mortal beings, while Thanatos was responsible for deities which have served long enough their purpose, only to lead them to their death and to appoint a new deity, which fills the void in the divine order. He is respected but more feared by the lesser gods, because he can end their reigns easly.
He takes only orders from his father, which just calls himself the Creator. He is the highest being in existence, which gave the universe law and order, so that new life can bloom in it.
I will continue the story, when I like it. You can asume one thing, Thanatos will fall deep.
