Quote
Konami Digital Entertainment has announced on Friday that Guinness World Records has recognized Yu-Gi-Oh! as the best-selling trading card game to date with over 22,587,728,173 sold as of April 2009. The game entered the record books on July 7. The official announcement was made at the 7th annual Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game World Championship in Tokyo. Kazuki Takahashi drew the original manga from 1996 to 2004, and the card game first shipped in 1999 and eventually spread to over 45 countries. Konami had applied for the record back in 2006, when "only" 15.8 billion cards had been sold.

NAS and Studio Gallop are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their anime adaptation during this year's Jump Super Anime Tour in Japan. The 10th anniversary anime special will feature appearances from the heroes of the studios' three Yu-Gi-Oh! television series.

Yeah. I dont know why, but Im surprised.
Dunno. Guess I kinda assumed Pokemon got there first.

The way I see it, most people were only collecting the Pokémon TCG back in the day, they did not play it. I for one never really played it, just collected it. I only played the game in it's GBC form, but that was years ago and I hardly remember the rules anymore. Yu-Gi-Oh!, the way I see it, keeps the whole thing a lot fresher and it's more easy to play, thus supporting it's popularity.

Yknow, I don't think ANYONE actually knew how to play Pokemon...
I know I didnt. And by God, I could never get my hands on an instructional booklet or something.

though the fact that the game works differently in real life than on consoles or TV might have something to do with that. Yugioh works on TV and games the same way it does on the table.

I do, unless there was an important change since last time I checked. It plays the same as in the GB game IIRC.

Yknow, I don't think ANYONE actually knew how to play Pokemon...

... I used to work for a Wizards of the Coast company, and from there, I got to be a Gym Leader with a yellow shirt, every weekend in select stores, handing out stamps to kids to put on their trackbook. When they got enough stamps, they would get a shiny badge. I worked at the time Kanto and Johto badges were available, but then I quit. We also taught kids how to play the card game, plus we went out to promote the Harry Potter trading card game.

It didn't go so well, but in the end, I got myself a big handful of Pokemon cards for plastic keeping. >U<

Those are a pain in the ass. At least I got more card games besides YugiOh.. Pokemon, Megaman NT Warrior, Gundam Wing/MS Gundam: MS War, Bionicle, Duel Masters, Magic, Shaman King, Star Wars, Zatch Bell, Kingdom Hearts, The Simpsons (certain Simpson Hit-and-Run games come with a The Collector card that makes people know of the game's existance) Marvel Lengends Showdown, Bakugan.. even ye old poker cards too. I can't seem to remember the rest though, but my nearly all-female deck's  ready to pwn.

Yep, every time when someone mentions that game people get energized for an apparent reason whatsoever. It's like this everywhere else, trust me.

It got really messy to find my sprite and comic topic, so it's in my sig.

That Megaman X was for that weird inter series card game they came up with.
