Didn't Magma Dragoon and Cyber Peacock have a Sigma symbol bellow their health bar, too?

You mean the Maverick icon, yes.

Cyber Peacock is a virus, mostly created by Double. Magma Dragoon went maverick and labeled as such, explaining the icon. Same with Split Mushroom, who was controlled by Sigma. Last bit of the Repliforce was Spiral Pegasion, who appeared in X5.

So yeah, you fight the Repliforce mostly, three were Mavericks, and one was a virus fragmented from maverick data.

Cyber Peacock is a virus, mostly created by Double.... one was a virus fragmented from maverick data.

What the heck does Double have to do with creating anything other than destruction? Besides, Peacock is NOT a Virus. He's either a digitized Repliroid guard or a guard program specifically made to resemble a Repliroid.

Cyber Kujacker
"Network Guardian"
He was originally installed in Cyber Space to protect the network from hackers. Then
he was remodelled by Sigma into an arrogant and cruel character, and began attacking
anyone who entered the network, be they civilian, Hunter, or Repliforce.

Magma Dragoon went maverick and labeled as such, explaining the icon. Same with Split Mushroom, who was controlled by Sigma.

Mushroom was a civilian who became an underling for Sigma, no mention of being controlled. As a matter of fact, it's rather Dragoon who was confirmed as being controlled.

Last bit of the Repliforce was Spiral Pegasion, who appeared in X5.

Pegacion was the last of the Air Force, being the Leader of it, but he might not be the last of Repliforce. That wholly depends on how well the Naval Force and Guerilla Force are holding out.

However, Dinorex is a former Repliforce soldier and now control theirs Sanhouse Mountain Base, so I would presume his Force was wiped out. Lots of former Repliforce either retired or were infected. For instance, we can find Air Force soldiers piloting the Eagle G in 0-space.

But, the latest shown character to ever have been a part of Repliforce is probably Red, who is rumored to have been a recruiter for them. But aside from all that, Repliforce left behind quite a legacy. They after all created the first generation of combat-specific Ride Armors; Riden and Eagle.

And their yellow boats are still used by Neo Arcadia >.>

I was blown away when I saw the Repliforce logo in MMZ1.

Capcom's always hesitant to concretely connect the series, then pull cameos like this.

Relating to the original topic, I'd taken notice of how the life bar symbols separate the "true" Mavericks from the Repliforce coup.  I kinda liked that touch, the fact that the game didn't focus solely on that but took a moment to address other threats, so it's not as if the rest of the world came to a halt.

Why were they changed into boring skulls in X5 ?

Because the majority of bosses in X5 have no particular side to stand on but their own.

'Boring' skulls were also used in X1. X2 switched to the SIGMA. X3 used both the D and the SIGMA. X4 uses Repliforce, SIGMA and the 'boring' skull.

Zan beats me to the punch again, but yeah, skull symbols are in X4 as well.  I know Egrerion (or however the hell you spell his name) uses one, minibosses as well.

I kinda hated how in X5 most of the bosses are not really Maverick but just feel like fighting you to the death for the hell of it.  Of course, there's so much else about X5 that despises me that it's usually overshadowed.  But yeah, given that, going for a more generic symbol makes sense.

Then there's Gate's head gem in X6, which was nifty.

Might have made sense if it wasn't used in the previous game.  But the W symbols, Shadow Devil, and Wily's name in the opening movie pretty much get the job done anyway.
