I vaguely recall you guys liking
Recettear so figured this was worth bringing up. Though it's not related, except for being translated by the same guys and being about kawaii anime girls having even more
kawaii adventures.
It's a
platformer action RPG; you cut and magic your way through dungeons, solving puzzles, gaining xp and items etc. There's a party system that lets you customize how your (extremely kawaii) friends act in combat, or you can just control them directly.
I liked what I saw in the demo. Combat was tricky to do perfectly but not overly punishing, though you do get more healing items than you really need if you take care to explore. Items are expensive and XP gain slow, but the equipment and levels make a big difference, so it's a "big jumps infrequently" sort of deal.
If you can get over such a sickeningly sweet tone as Recettear had, definitely give it a try.
