We didn't see Fox McCloud as a fighter, either, until SSB.
Speed would probably throw some street-level hooks and kicks, chuck a few car tools, and call on Trixie, Spridle, Pops, etc. to do some attacking.

I'm starting to think this was their answer to Megaman Scramble Battle.
I hate to say it, but ol' blue needs to gather some more laurels before even THINKING about a gratuitous crossover fighter.
And that's all across the board. Starforce, Legends, ZX; all the outstanding series need to step it up.
Not just getting sequels, but improving game quality. Immensely.
