Gaming / Re: The Official Super Mario Galaxy 2 Discussion Thread
« on: June 16, 2009, 01:29:06 AM »
Everyone knows that Mario is a prime example for the neverending struggle between an oppressing force and opressed forces fighting for their right. Disguised as a game about a plumber saving his Princes from the claws of a fire-breathing dinosaur turtle (clearly a metaphor for outdated or unrealistic forms of governments).

Excuse me while I fetch the Brain Bleach (tm).

But seriously, beyond the Storybook, introduction, and star-creation theology (each of which the player is not required to follow along), there wasn't anything too complicated in SMG1. Granted, now that SMG1 had all that much story in it, I think it would be a good idea to let the story cool its heels a bit and get back to the gameplay, then, make 3 a closure with a good balance of story and gameplay depth at just above moderate.

So when Miyamoto says there won't be "a need" for that story depth, he's right. We know who Rosalina and the Lumas are, we know how the heck Bowser got his power (and, being the bad magician he is, performs the same Grand Star trick again 8D), and we've got more explanation as to how the bright and cheery magic of the Mario universe works. Great, good, done, now, let's get back to the fun. And between the saws and Yoshi, I'm having a lot of SMW flashbacks, and that's a good thing (eat your heart out, Martha).
NOW WHERE THE HELL IS MY ROSALINA, NINTENDO?! CHOP CHOP!

Uh...well, there's been quite a few. Mostly nice little life-goal coincidences.

Yeah, though, I definitely get that feeling.

You kiddin'? Any "nerdy" fandom is a bowl of sausage and rice, with mostly sausage.

Even this one.

Man, I've still got 3000 points waiting on something new(sorta).

I really hope that the MotionPlus means I can get Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge, Yoshi's Safari, and Duck Hunt.

Well, a Kingdom Hearts movie can't hurt, as long as they are made by Disney, and it's animated which is based off the manga. :P

You know, since Kairi is one of the 7 Princesses of Heart along with all the other famous Disney princesses, I've always wondered if Disney was going to do a separate movie for her, one that, like the other princesses, has a story/movie that has absolutely nothing to do with KH.

And it could be about her pre-Destiny Islands.

Now that's worthy of a big OH SHI--

Wait! I've got it! I know how to keep the LoZ series fresh!

Remember "Mario is Missing"? Well how about playing as Zelda in:

The Legend of Zelda: Missing Link

Eh? Eh?! 8D

That's like playing a Zelda game where you play as Zelda!

Honestly, I have no idea who the other 5 could be. There's just a wide range of Tatsunoko and Capcom series that you could pull from.

My dad most favoutire game of all time.
He can play Tetris for hours.

But he loathe the fancy one.
He's all for traditional Tetris XD

Yeah, I'm sitting here playing the GB one, now, and it really is a whole new game when you take out the quick drop, ghost piece, and hold functions. I wouldn't say that it's necessarily harder, but it does take a different approach.

*Bowyer, still enduring a machine gun's worth of buster shots, managed to stand up and bolster himself long enough to shoot one arrow. But, it was of no use. The arrow got sucked into the Gravity Well. HP Level, Bowyer: 0%.*

"There. Now for the oth---HEY!"

*Aldo's Troopas ran up to Bowyer's remains and grabbed 30 coins!*

"HEY GIMME THOSE! ...hey, wait, better yet, you can have that, I'll take the star."

*Aldo grabbed the Green Biostar. ...in the wrong place!*

Kalmar: "WHOA! Hey, watch it, sir! Those are my glutes you just grabbed!"
Aldo: "Hey, I may be evil, but I'm not that kind of guy! Sorry about that."
Kalmar: "Quite alright."
Aldo: "So...now you're an official Troopa of the great and powerful Aldo!"
Kalmar: "Ah...great...well, where is he?"
Aldo: "YOU'RE LOOKING AT HIM. WHAT USE ARE YOU TO ME?"
Kalmar: "YIKE! Well, I do this!"

*Aldo turned and noticed a bunch of arrows...hopping away...*

"This just gets weirder and weirder."

*Kalmar turned the arrows into stars, which ascended into the sky.*

Aldo: "AHA! PERFECT! You can turn my enemies into stars?!"
Kalmar: "Well, if they're weak of will and sou..."
Aldo: "Yeah, yeah, don't go and get all preachy on me. My nemesis is done for sure! And that strange man if he shows up, too."

*Aldo turns to his remaining Troopas.*

"Alright Troopas, we've wasted enough time, here. I can see Moleville Mountain now that I destroyed a good part of the forest, so, MARCH! MARCH! MARCH!"

*Aldo and his Troopas would soon arrive at Moleville Mountain.*

Well this explains a lot about whenever Link pulls the Master Sword out of the pedestal. Y'know, the music, and the light, and all that?

That's right, the humble little block dropping game designed by Alexey Pajitnov and originally made for an IBM system turns 25, meaning it has enough years to clear the Tetris B mode! The points? It has scored 125 million copies sold, not including numerous knock-offs.

Here's the Chicago Tribune's news story.
And here's the Wikipedia, which answers the question, "Can you play one game of Tetris forever?"

Funny how it's also D-Day. The day when the I-block landed on the far right shore causing four lines to disappear Allied troops made their crucial landings in Normandy to turn the tide of WWII.

At any rate, for those of you who fondly remember this game or maybe even cut your gaming teeth on it, celebrate it! Me, I've actually got my old Game Boy here at the house, so I'll play it for a while.
I fixed it and gave it to my mom (she loves Tetris) for her's and my stepdad's first anniversary as a way of saying "No hard feelings."
And another thing. We're going to start seeing a lot of 25th's here, soon. Mario's will be next year, seeing as Super Mario Bros. 1 was released in Japan on September 13, 1985 (granted, that's not Mario's first appearance, but it's certainly the one everyone remembers him by.)

Got Tetris? Post it here!

999,999 Points on the Game Boy version!

I absolutely dislike BN, for example, but I did give it a chance.

Well now I will say that that series is not for everybody. And that sure as heck applies to Starforce.

So that's how I'm viewing Legends; somebody else's cup of tea.
Pretty much the only way I can keep myself sane, as much as I debate the series' "quality".

(And Mallow could still follow after him. Also, Mack oughta get up and start putting up some kind of fight, IMO. Good time for Mallow to step in, especially considering Thunderbolt.)

(Also, White-Jet, I figured out where I messed up. Originally, you had found and taken the Green star out of the forest. Apparently, I wanted a Biostar. So now, you have the Purple star, the one that was supposed to be on Star Hill. I guess we'll just say you found that one, instead?)

(Wait is everyone at the forest already?)

(Well, we're not following SMRPG exactly. Heck, Mallow and Croco are probably stuck at the RPM Kingdom Castle! 8D We haven't even been to Kero Sewers or Tadpole Pond.)

I'd like a LoZ game that was just the biggest collection of some of the most awesome weapons, masks, what have you.

Double Hookshot and the Megaton Hammer? One crazy game of Whack-a-Mole.
Roc's Feather and the Deku Leaf? Flight!
Bombchu and the Command Melody? You are the Bombchu for a little bit and can control it for some recon and get into small places.
