News and Announcements / Re: New EXE Game To Be A Remake Confirmed?
« on: July 10, 2009, 10:13:48 PM »
Is EXE1 really that legendary? I haven't been around during the time the MMBN series started so I don't know how much it got hyped.

I don't remember how I found out about it. Probably either Planet Megaman or GameFAQs.

But yes, BN1 started the whole series, and for Capcom, it's legendary in terms of being a source of easy remake revenue since Starforce (more or less) flopped. Of course, BN6 was where SF1-3 are in terms of marketing awareness.

Either way, BN1 had a fully-connected internet (16 non-distinguishable areas), 15 chips to choose from instead of 10, the rough draft for the Program Advance system, had a lot of the most favored and future-repeated NetNavis in the same game, etc.

Personally, I think they just want to say ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US again, but that's just me.

"Call me Machiavellian, but if I were a video game company, and I had already created a service that sold old games on the newest hardware, and that service was seen as a cop-out or greedy, I would wait until enough fans asked for a different version of that same service, say, on the handheld hardware, before milking that income stream and damaging the company's reputation even though I was offering a wanted service."

Indeed, Ubi's probably counting on them being the Dan/Jigglypuff of that game.

Because, well, see how well that works?

It would almost certainly seem that way if they're remaking BN1.

But so soon? And, remember, BN1 was drastically different from the other BN games, so this could, could, just be a one-shot remake.

Pulled up Vs. Gospel, and wouldn't you know it, I wind up starting in the same standard Forward Stance that Megaman.EXE is in when he's fighting.

If it plays anything like Smash, it'll be fun, but at the same time, everything else about the game will really kill the enjoyment.

NMH1's fetchquests broke the game's pacing. 50 'bosses' might alleviate the tedium, but let's still see the series earn its stripes before hitting Smash as a playable.

A Zero Only run would be soooo easy. Any run with the Saber is easy!

AND I LOVE IT.

"Woohoo, beat my old Quartz Quadrant Zone 1 time; now it's 35'15'!"

Besides, Aldo knows that I do that often. I'll just wait to hear what he has to say about it all. :P

There's 2 kinds of SRPG's:
Flexible - Allows you to have various units, typically in a fantasy setting, that allows the player freedom of choice while still introducing enemy types that are weaker to certain classes and strategies.
Specific - Almost always in a war or Risk setting, these require almost veteranship status in the mechanics of the game itself and of SRPGs in general.

VC is the latter. Not necessarily harder (that was only the Demo I played), just different.

Major slap in the face if there's an Usagi outfit for one of the Rabbids instead of the actual character.

As for the Utrominator and old B&W books, granted, but Krang was more memorable.

This does look interesting. I could use an action game.

I'm not mad. I'M FURIOUS!

It's bad enough that they're using an Ultrominator instead of Krang, and the new art style instead of the old one, but now THIS?! On a 25th anniversary celebration of all things pizza, turtles, and mutants?!

I'm starting to shy away from this.

Really, the shield in SSB hasn't been worth jack since SSB64. Which is a ****ing crime, because if people had SSB64's shields in Brawl, Metaknight wouldn't be as much of a problem.

The thing that annoys me most about Smash is how you have no idea what jumps you have or what moves you can do after you've been hit, and if you can't do something quickly to keep your opponent from following up AND execute it well enough, it's pretty much game over on the higher to professional level.

Oh yeah, and there'd better be a Falcon or Tornado ST (Standing Tank) Assist Trophy. You could make either character playable, really, but let's see some Metal Combat love, here!

Network Transmission really put an interesting spin on platforming. It was too long and structured to be as fun as a Classic MM or MMX game, though. But that's just me, because except for ZX and Tails' Adventure, Metroidvanias bore me.

If you can't get kids into platformer games aimed to kids and/or nostalgia fans like half the people here, then you won't get the FPS and Sony crowds into megaman because they are mature gamers that play mature games like themselves, unless MML3 plays like Bayonetta.

In before Zone of the Enders

Megaman May Cry it is, then. XD
Roll and Tron in leather outfits, Trigger shooting off cheesy lines, ah, that'd be funny.

Nah, really, I don't know how you'd go about mainstreaming Megaman. Perhaps it's more about the art and setting than the genre.

I've never played ZoE. Just like I never sat down long enough to finish LoZ:OoT nor have I played Valkyria Chronicles.

I'm sure you noticed the waves of 13-year-old rampaging through the Rockman community when EXE was at its popularity peak. EXE was actually a good RPG series that drew newer generations into Megaman. Then Capcom screwed up.

Even so, the newer EXE fans don't generally care about the other Megaman series. I suppose Legends 3 could get the FPS and Sony crowds up, but I think a new series is in order.

But there's the trick; ZX's platforming didn't work and neither did Starforce's RPG. There's got to be some genre that'd pull new fans. Perhaps a Monster Hunter~esque Megaman?

1024
Now I say Geno OR Rosalina.

But Mega Man still has to get in.

I hope this is a bad translation of the answer, the only remake that Rockman need right now is one for the first Dash in order to get new fans on board.

>Rockman
>new fans

No, seriously, Mega Man games are legacy. It's just not a series that appeals to the newer generation. And any attempt to make a series that would appeal to them would only wind up being a disaster and a mockery of the license compared to the settings of the classic entries (i.e. compare the badassery of MMX1 or the attitude of the Classic Mega Man series to the performance and setting of Starforce).
