He had no recollection of when or how he had supposedly lost consciousness (if you could call it that), and it seems nothing much had changed, as he began to become quickly surrounded by various creatures.

I learned how buffers work:
A weak acid and a salt that supplies the conjugate base ion are combined in solution. It can also be a weak base with a salt supplying the conjugate acid ion.
