Over at tourney registration, Rankine was waiting on line and had his tourney disguise on: a long scarf that covered his face, a hat with a large brim and a large, flowing purple cloak.

"What's with the getup?" Crux asked.

"I don't like showing my face so openly, especially when you become the center of attention. Having all those vapid eyes watching me is overbearing." Rankine wrapped the cloak tightly around his body.

"Personally, I would prefer having the recognition of being a high-ranking net battler."

"Recognized? By these people? Where are your standards?"

"UP YOUR ASS." Crux gave Rankine the finger.

"Hey, is that Crusader?" Rankine squinted at the registration screen. "Oh, my. It is. Turns out that chip may be here after all."

Crux rubbed his chin. "Well, in that case, I think it would be safe if we were to get Spectro's help. More chances to get our hands on it."

"But he doesn't owe me anything. How are we going to get him to join?"

"Oh, well he owes me a favor still, so..."

--------------------

Crux was back in Undernet 5, standing over Spectro, who had barely budged an inch since the last time he saw him.

Crux kneeled onto the floor and shook Spectro by the shoulder. "Rise and shine. It's time to do me a--"

Spectro's hand shot out and gripped Crux by the neck. he turned his head to look at Crux, and loosened his hand and groaned.

"You need to calm down," said Crux, rubbing his neck.

"You need to stop waking me up," said Spectro, rolling over.

"Hey." Crux rolled Spectro back to face him. "You OWE me."

"FOR WHAT?" Spectro slammed his hands over his face in melodramatic misery.

"For saving your butt from the Net Officials, who were going to delete you for fudging with the power grid three months ago."

"Oh, that. Ugh..." Spectro sat up. "What am I doing now?"

"You are joining a net battle tournament."

Spectro got up. "All right, lead the way, boss navi."

Crux got up and spoke to Rankine. "All right, I got him to come."

"Good, now hurry back to the town network. Oh, and before we register, I need you to disguise yourself. Don't want that Crusader navi to know we're here."

No, not that scary. It's as if it's pushing the borders of photorealism or something or other and forget whatever it is I just said.

"You. I don't want trouble. I'm just protecting this Navi, who is still unconscious. I destroyed SciLab network and caused him to fall here. So I'm protecting him until he can be jacked out. Just... leave me alone. I really don't want to fight right now..."
[[Oh, I was afraid of this... Crux was jacked out, so you're standing next to Spectro. Sorry.]]

Spectro awoke with a rather loud groan, and looked up at the navis that were standing around him.

"Okay, what are you all doing here? This isn't an exhibit. Shoo, just..." Spectro picked something up and threw it at one of the navis. He then rolled over, resuming his siesta.

--------------------

Back at Rankine's house, Rankine had finished the restoration work on Crux.

"You feeling better?"

"Yeah. Geez, those Undernet regulars, they're a rotten bunch."

Rankine looked out a window and saw someone putting up posters for what looked like a tourney. He stepped out for a moment and read the poster. "Super rare chip? Eh... couldn't be..." Rankine felt that his suspicion was unfounded, but that it wouldn't hurt to investigate. Going back into his house, Rankine went to the PET.

"Hey, you wouldn't mind joining a tourney, would you?"

Crux cocked his head. "What, now?"

"No, next Friday, actually."

"Hrrm... I guess it wouldn't hurt. But why the sudden whim?"

"The posters out there said that first prize was 100K Zenny or a 'super rare chip'."

"And you think that's the Cross? It could be anything."

"Well, who knows how many times the chip may have exchanged hands at this point?"

"Oh, right..." Crux rubbed his chin. "I guess anything could be a lead now..."

Spectro tapped at Crux's face. "Hey, Fuzzy here wants to say he's sorry for sending you to the Undernet."

Crux didn't respond.

"Well, I guess he forgives you," Spectro said with a shrug.

Rankine rolled his eyes. "All right, just... let me jack him out, you idiot."

Spectro set Crux down on the floor and he was jacked out. He turned to WombatMan. "Well, nice meeting you." He fell flat on the floor and resumed his siesta.

"Well, he's still here." Spectro was about to walk away, but then turned back to the navi. "Who are you?"

The navi with the sword took Crux and put him in a headlock. He pointed the sword at his head.

"STAY BACK, or your friend here gets it."

Spectro paused for a moment, then put his hands up. "Okay." He backed away a bit, then threw a knife, which went smack dab in the middle of the navi's face. The navi and Crux both collapsed onto the floor. The remaining navis started to run away, and Spectro fired a volley of missiles at them.

"Thank you. Thank you very much." He went over to Crux. "Well, hey there."

"...Spectro...?" Crux looked up, and then blacked out.

"Ooh, that's not good." Spectro picked Crux up and hoisted him over his shoulder. He turned around and saw the wombat navi.

"Oh."

The navi thrust his sword at Crux, about to stab him, when there was a shout from high above.

"SOMEONE PLEASE BREAK MY FALL!"

The navi intent on stabbing Crux looked up in surprise, as well as the others, and had accidentally scrawled a cut across Crux's chest instead. Spectro landed on top of one of the navis on both his feet, flattening the one who broke his fall. He got up and looked at them.

"That..." said Spectro, pointing to Crux "...belongs to me."

"I hate this place..." Spectro finally arrived in the Undernet, with a giant bazooka slung over his shoulder. He fired a round in an indeterminate direction, blowing up some platforms, and possibly deleting someone's navi.

"Stop that. Now, the regulars here probably aren't too friendly, so we'll have to interrogate some of them for any sign of Crux."

"Splendid idea! I'll start with that one!" said Spectro, walking over to a navi. "Hey, you seen a navi about yea high? Looks like a mummy with sunglasses and a coat."

"The [tornado fang] outta the way, [sonic slicer]," the navi said, shoving Spectro to the side. Not long after, Spectro lifted the navi by his back and slammed him to the floor, shaking him up a little.

"Now, I asked you a question, and I really would like an answer..." Spectro picked up his bazooka and pointed it point blank at the navi's chest. "Okay?"

"D-duh... Undernet F-f-five?"

"Thank you." Spectro lifted the navi by his neck and threw him somewhere quite far. "Gotta be firm with these guys, y'know?" Spectro said to Rankine.

"Yeah..."

--------------------

"Come on, bend over. I won't do anything."

A group of navis had Crux surrounded. Crux remained silent, staring defiantly at the navi. One of the navis kiced him to the floor.

"Good boy." A couple of navis laughed. Crux swung one arm at one of them, impaling him with the blades protruding from his arm. The navi was deleted, but the others immediately restrained him. One of them went up to Crux's face, and spoke.

"Hm... that's no good..." The navi downloaded a sword chip and had the sword pointed to his stomach.

"...wha..."

"GODDAMMIT SPECTRO ARE YOU LISTENING?"

"Who is that? Rankine?"

"Yes, it's me! I need your help!"

Rankine was yelling at a navi, slumped on the floor somewhere in the town network. He wore tattered ballistic armor and a bubble helmet, which had a large crack in front, revealing an eerie, glowing blue eye.

"I'm busy," said Spectro, turning to his side.

"NO 'I'm busy'! You owe me!"

"For what?"

"For the little white lie I told the Net Officials about how you weren't the one that blew up half the town network seven months ago."

"Oh, that..." Spectro's speech was barely coherent, his words slurred as if drunken. "Whaddaya want?"

"I lost Crux in a criminal attack against SciLab, and he's probably lost in the Undernet."

"Oh, why is it you always come to me whenever the Undernet comes up?"

"Because you're the only one who can make it through there without being deleted/taken prisoner."

"True, true... but can't Crux do that, too?"

"I told you I LOST HIM!"

"Oh, right... Well, then..." Spectro slowly got up. "Lead the way, boss man."

----------

Meanwhile, in the Undernet, Crux finally came to, and looked around for any clue as to where he might be. It was a dark and menacing place, with all sorts of suspicious navis walking about.

"Oh, geez... Is this the Undernet?"

"Oh, eat a dick. Acting all smug and stuff just cause you have that chip..."

Just when it seemed that Crusader had subdued the wombat navi, he recovered from his injuries and sprouted wings, much like Falzar, and started attacking the other two with even greater furor. The network began to disintergrate shortly after.

"Crux! You have to jack out! NOW!"

The floor had completely disintegrated, and Crux fell through, unable to jack out in time.

Anyway, what do you think of how the Final Fantasy is progressing in terms of stories? I actually think they had something good in FFXII, but they kinda ruined it with Vaan and the second part.
I don't even know what FFXII was about. Everything was pseudo-politics with Vayne trying to get nethicite sandwiched in between.

Every single post from OTHER TOPIC. He's making it personal instead of replying based on the topic.

HAHAHAHAHA. I got a stalker now, is that it? A whiny little bitchy stalker who doesn't even keep to the topics, and has a little vendetta against the guy who's made him angry? Funny how every single one of your posts has gone from replying thoughtfully to my arguments, to complaining about me and me alone. So what if I complain about things? This is the INTERNET. Get off it if you can't stand the rage, kid.
What the hell are you talking about? Stalker? I would have liked to ignored this, but you're so full of yourself it makes me want stuff dirt into my eye sockets.

"You again. You have something very important and it belongs to me." Crux was about to give Crusader a piece of his mind when the wombat navi started to, well, go berserk.

Crux backed away some distance, trying to figure out what to do.

Going back into the SciLab network, Crux saw several security navis scattered about on the floor, all of whom were beaten badly.

"Home sweet home, eh? Wonder what the noise is this time."

"Hey, Crux. Look there."

Crux saw two navis fighting each other. One, in the image of a wombat; the other, a knightly-looking fellow who looked formidably agile. Neither Rankine nor Crux knew either of them.

"Is it the feral one that did this?"

"Looks can be deceiving, especially when it comes to navis."

Crux rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Maybe I oughta ask them?"

"That's a stupid idea."

"Better than letting the bastard what ruined the peace win over the other navi."

Rankine remained silent for a moment. "Yeah, I suppose that's a better idea than any."

Crux walked over to the two navis, staying a distance away from them. "Hey, might I know which of you wants to... destroy SciLab... or something?"
