"Don't try that on me. You're just a goddamned clone." She pulled out some more knives. "Besides, even if you were the real Count, well, that would just make my job all the easier."

Alice glared at her mimic and aimed a knife at her.

"Stop talking. I never wanted to be the best at anything. That was all his idea." Alice put her arm around the girl's waist, whether she realised it or not. It seemed as though some part of her, a maternal instinct, had made itself known after years of being forced into the furthest reaches of her soul. "Do what you want with me, I'll gladly carve you freaks up. Leave the girl alone. She didn't ask for this."

"I don't know," said Alice frankly. It was the truth, though. She flung the knives at the dopplegangers and dragged herself and the girl behind the creatures before time returned to normal.

Do some of you really not know the Monty Python skit?

I figured it was common enough knowledge not to warrant mentioning. =P

what's a lumberjack?

A person who cuts, chops and/or saws wood for a living. They chop down trees mainly.

Alice's instincts quickly kicked in and, without even realising it, she had drawn more knives out. Her six years had ensured that in a fight-or-flight situation, the latter was never an option.

"Get behind me," she said to the girl. Her internal ordeal had been replaced, quite jarringly, with contempt at the doppleganger for trying to take advantage of her.

Fortunately I have yet to meet a person who genuinely believes that and isn't just saying it in an attempt at being funny. 8D

Fair enough, I suppose. I'm just voicing my opinion here. I'm not saying I'm right or anything, that's just how I personally feel about it.

That just sounds like being an ass for shits and giggles.

Oh, he is, believe me. But the thing is, he's a clever ass; he know what he can and can't say, and deliberately pushes the boundaries of decency and taste just to get a reaction. He means very little, if any, of what he says.

The thing is, I personally don't think accepting stereotypes - be they ethnical, racial, etc. - is that easy or will make them magically "go away". People will always say hurtful things for whatever reasons. Taking it as a joke and sweeping it under the proverbial carpet doesn't change the fact that they're often done to be cruel and offensive. As far as I'm concerned, there's a line in comedy you don't cross, and I wouldn't blame people for feeling uneasy around those kind of jokes.

But to get back to the original point, I just think the whole "Irish people talk like leprechauns" schtick makes them come across as ignorant. If you're going to make a joke about being Irish, at least come up with something more original.

"No...I won't..."

Alice was caught in an internal struggle; on the one hand, she hated the man for taking away her humanity and turning her into little more than a living weapon; on the other hand, he was the closest thing she had to a family, and a part of her couldn't bring herself to hate him. She just didn't know what to do. Her grip on the pocketwatch tightened.

Debatable. I've had this argument with my "I'll say what I want regardless of how offensive it is" brother. I would rather not go through with it again. Each to his own.

Alice recoiled in horror and instinctively grabbed the watch she carried with her. That little golden pocketwatch.

"You're not really him," she said weakly, "You're not him. You're just a monster...a monster..." She couldn't help but tremble. She went along with the charade, finding it difficult to listen to herself. The damned mimic knew just how to hit her where it hurt the most. "I won't give it back to you...not after what you did for me. I forgot how to feel hope and love because of you."

Lucky, I love your characters background story. Might make some fan art. Just need a detailed description of the character.

Thanks for the compliment!

Quote from: Character ideas
Black Tarot

The lord of all evil. An immortal vampire who has existed since time immemorial and the ultimate source of evil in the mythos. He feasts on souls to stay powerful, and he manipulates others into killing people so he can harvest their souls for himself. He can take advantage of people with weak or corrupt souls by tempting them and controlling their sinful desires. He is able to tempt people by offering them anything they desire, but at the price of their soul. He wishes to gain enough souls to ascend to godhood and rule over a world of eternal night. He is immensely powerful and has total control over the powers of darkness and the night.

Doktor Koffenmaske

An eccentric scientist of questionable morality. He lives and works in his laboratory, where he experiments with creating new and often bizarre creatures. His creations include The Butcher. He is apparently related to Herr Zuchtusten, the prison warden, though the two rarely speak to eachother. He has weak lungs and wears a mask to help his breathing. He tends to breathe and wheeze heavily in his mask, and he often has to pause when he's speaking to breathe. He is prone to maniacal laughter at the drop of a hat, even when the situation doesn't call for it, even though it's bad for his lungs. He is very attached to his creations and flies into a fit of rage if anybody harms them.

Zezzonite

Nicknamed "The Mad Bomber", he is an anarchic madman with a penchant for explosives. His right arm is mechanical and is used to launch bombs, rockets, grenades and all manner of explosive devices. He was jailed for attempting to blow up a city block, but he broke out to wreak havoc again. He is very resitant to explosions, especially his own. He is something of a masochist and sometimes gets caught in his own blasts for fun. He never shows restraint and is known to go all-out against his opponent, no matter who they are. Outside of battle, he is cruel, edgy and callous; in battle, he is violent, brutal and chaotic. He hates authority and order and wants to see the world fall into chaos.

Arson van Murder

Known as "Hell's Bloody Emissary". A violent and psychopathic killer who enjoys seeing other people suffer. He is known to have murdered an entire village in one night, which he considers modest at best. At times he is somewhat more calm than he usually is when he's on a spree of violence; this is because he usually only kills when he has his frequent "urges". He appears to be somewhat detached from reality, as he often talks to a hand puppet he wears, whom he claims is the one telling him to kill others. Though very few are willing to try removing it from him, it has been noted that without the hand puppet, he becomes relaxed and unresponsive. He is notoriously treacherous and untrustworthy, as he sees no distinction between allies and enemies when he feels the urge to kill. He seems to feel great pain when he isn't shedding blood during his urges.

Itsuki Yamiyama

A young man whose ghost haunts an old hotel. As a result of his soul's power, his parents became convinced he was possessed by something evil. Fearing for their lives, the cruel parents brought him to the hotel, strangled him, buried the body and fled. His desire for vengeance was so great that his spirit remained and haunted the room where he was killed. Anybody who sleeps in the room dies and their body vanishes, so the hotel keeps it off-limits to avoid trouble. The ghost himself is a spiteful, hate-filled individual who holds contempt for all life and kills anyone who sleeps in his room out of jealousy. He wears a permanent grin on his face, but he is anything but happy with his life, or lack thereof. He wants to kill enough people so he can sacrifice their souls to return to life. He cannot leave the room unless somebody lets his spirit out, and even then he must return when morning comes.

[Blackhook, you magnificent bastard.]

Alice stopped in her tracks and looked at her own mimic with a deadpan expression. But for the first in a long, long time time, there was fear and sorrow in her eyes.

"No...I...that's not it at all...I..."

Memories came flooding back to her mind, memories she had long since repressed. The orphanage. The closet. The strange man. The pocketwatch. The mansion. The knives. Those six long years, years she would never get back. In the back of her mind, she began to question what it was all for. She wanted a family, and instead she was moulded into a machine, a tool that existed only to fight.

She never did find out what the old man had intended for her to do.

Once the doppleganger took on the form of Remus, Alice felt a sudden tinge of genuine panic cut through her. Her hands, trembling, lost their grip o her knives. The blades fell to the floor with a faint clatter.

"I...I'm not weak...!" She tried to say it, but even she had her doubts about that. It had never occurred to her that the one thing she feared more than anything else was herself.

I love the expression. Makes me want to use a big rugged accent and just go "TOP 'O DA MORNAN' TO YE LADDIE"

Except nobody here actually talks like that. The closest thing would be the Culchie farmers from the rural areas. Pretty much every county has its own unique accent, a lot of them god-awful, but some of them charmingly endearing. The accents where I live are some of the worst I have ever heard. Fortunately, my accent is nothing like that; it's pretty much an extremely diluted Irish one that otherwise sounds like your average English-speaking urbanite.

Alice looked over her shoulder, only to find that both Mirby and the girl had absconded and gone elsewhere. She frowned, but continued fighting the doppleganger horde nonetheless. Still, it would be unfair to say she didn't feel a slight tinge of betrayal.

This is why you don't trust others. They'll always leave you when they need to.

[I really have nothing to do here besides idly kill dopplegangers. Is there even an Alice clone at all?]

-----

"H-hey," stammered Laura, struggling to free her leg from the demon's grip, "Let me go!"

"And why would I do that?"

"You said you couldn't hit a girl!"

"He did. I have no such ethical complications."

"Don't do this," said the lad hurriedly, hald-pleadingly.

"Showing concern for the monster who nearly killed you a moment ago? I'm ashamed to be attached to you."

Pfft..everyone knows Hamlet would win :P...

That's debatable. He seems to be doing fairly well against Laertes in their final duel, and Gertrude seems fairly certain he would win, but the match is cut short once Hamlet realises it's a plot to kill him. Hamlet had already landed a couple of hits on Laertes, but Laertes - who's made out to be a wonderful fencer himself - strikes him before the match abruptly ends. Both end up dieing (you should know this already) from the poison in the blades, leaving the potential results of their duel up for speculation.

In a mental duel, though, Hamlet would more than likely come up trumps.

I wonder if literary scholars fanrage at eachother about The Brothers Karazimov or Hamlet?

"OMG YOU NOOB HAMLET WUD BEAT LAERTES IN A FIGHT COS HE IS TEH SEXY, LAERTES IS UGLI U R SO STUPID GO DIE!!1!"
"WAT NO WAI LAERTES WUD WIN HAMLET IS TEH GAY EH CANT EVEN KILL CLAUDIUS U [Top Spin]!1!"

Maybe they write yaoi slashfic as well. I could totally imagine a HamletxLaertesxFortinbras threesome, or ClaudiusxPoloniusxTheGhost, if Lemon Party is more your thing.
