Character art = NOT GAME.

That's ignorant. The art used in the game has to come from somewhere. Or do you think game designers just draw a sprite first and worry about the details later? Cause that's not how it is. Characters are drawn on paper before they're turned into pixels or polygons. And as technology advances, the characters in the game more strongly resemble their original designs. This holds true for Hard Corps. Just look at the character portraits. That's anime, if a bit muddy due to the Genesis' limitations.

As did I. She's still the best woman in game fiction to me.

Check the character art for the game. Hell, Sheena's character portrait in that screen is in the same style.

I think this game has plenty of wow factor. Maybe not quite as much as CHC, but it's on par with the majority of the series.

In retrospect, Uprising isn't very much like the first Hard Corps. The only things they share are some of the characters and the life bar. Otherwise, it takes more from Contra 3 and Shattered Soldier, while introducing a lot of it own unique stuff.

Oh, and about the lack of manliness, CHC is less manly than HCU. Unless you're into Fang. Otherwise, Harley has him beat. DAT POMPADOUR.

What are you talking about? Hard Corps was anime through and through. And it's only slow if you're not running the entire time.

Yeah I could see them packing all three characters together for $20 on PSN, likely a tad cheaper on XBL.

And now sesame's post on Dustloop has disappeared. wtf dood

According to sesame on Dustloop, the CS2 patch and Platinum will come out April 23. The patch will be free, and I'm guessing Plat will be the same price as Mak and Val.

He sounds different enough to make him interesting. But at the same time he seems very technical. And yeah, 1HP and 1 weapon slot, so I would never use him in Arcade. I want to see footage of him before I consider buying him, though.

This post reminded me that I have to try making a Team Justice Friends (Captain America as Major Glory/Hulk as The Infraggable Crunk/Thor as Val Halen) work.

Thor? Really? You got some balls, dude. If that doesn't work out, I think Dante would fit better as Val Halen if only cause he has a guitar.

Hmm. No one's talking about this game. I am disappoint.

Let's get one thing out of the way with this game. They dropped the ball big time when it comes to DLC. Now I'm cool with having extra characters available down the line. But not when they're in the intro cutscene. And not when they're available day 1. It makes me think that the character DLC is unlock codes, but I don't know for sure, so innocent until proven guilty. But still, the 2 extra characters (so far, anyway) could have easily been made unlockable through beating the game. One for beating Arcade mode, one for beating Rising mode. But they decided to make them separate downloads for $2.50 each. Effectively making the game a $20 game. You know I'm far more forgiving of DLC than anyone else on this site, maybe even the whole internet, but this case was pretty gay.

Doesn't help that Harley is a waste of space. The only perk to using him is that he naturally starts with 4 health, and can be upgraded to 8 max in Rising mode. Some of his upgrades are cheaper, as advertised, but some are more expensive in turn. He can start with the two weapons that Bahamut and Krystal can't start with, but I can't say Crash Missiles are worth it. And he looks badass. But that's it. In the end, he's not worth it at all.

Sayuri, on the other hand. She is worth 9 times the price you pay for her. Sayuri doesn't use guns. She's got a sword. And this sword is [tornado fang]ing strong. Now, Harley is supposed to be the easy mode of the game. Far from it, cause Sayuri lowers the difficulty quite a bit just from her pure strength. When you know what you're doing, you can plow through the game with her. She certainly makes Arcade mode easier because she doesn't have to worry about keeping lvl3 Laser the entire game just to survive. And it just feels so satisfying to slice through everything. The game is already a pretty fun Contra, but Sayuri makes it even funner and throws in some Strider fun too. So swallow your pride and shell out the extra money, you pussy. You'll thank yourself later.

No matter who you're playing as, this game is really fun. Sure you'll get your ass kicked early on, but it's the kind of asskicking that makes you get back up and try again, getting a little further every time. However, a PSA about the earlygame difficulty. When you first start the game, you have 3 continues if you die. Now at your skill level at the beginning, you'll likely use them all up not even a quarter of the way through the game. Now when I first played, I thought to myself "I have to do this whole game on 3 credits? Oh this is going to be impossible!" However, the game isn't that much of a [sonic slicer]. Each time you play either Arcade or Rising, whether that be to completion or running out of continues, you earn an extra continue to use the next time you play. And if you play the game 100 times, you'll cap at 573 continues. More than you'll ever need, but yeah.

tl;dr If you're turned off by how brutal the game is early on, just stick with it and it will get easier even if you skill level refuses to rise.

The only true flaw with the game is that it doesn't detail how to do many of the special actions you have. For all except the bullet reflect, you have to be dashing to use the action. And they're actually very useful. But the game has so many more plusses than that. It looks and sounds fantastic, just what you should expect from ASW. The voice acting is terrible, but in that PS1 funny terrible. It controls really well, although the option to turn off command dash would've been nice. The stages are big, but only slow if you never dash. The bosses are fun (Stage 4's is a hilight; the game turns into a shmup). And it's Contra.

If you have a 360, get this game right now. If you have a PS3, get it the second it's available, whenever that may be.

Contra is fun, I wanna be the guy isn't

Alright, you can stay.

Also, my last post was not defending IWBTG. That game blows because the memorization thing is all it has in terms of gameplay. If it weren't for the mishmosh of game references, not nearly as many people would give a damn. MM9, in contrast, has old fashioned Mega Man gameplay to back it up. And the noobtraps are so few and far in between. Comparing 9's stuff to IWBTG just isn't fair. IWBTG's traps are part of the joke. MM9 just got genre savvy and did something different. And don't act like memorizing enemy placement etc. is new to 9. Mega Man's been doing it since day 1.

How any of this relates to MM&B, I dunno. The King stages are just hard, that's it. There really isn't much in way of traps.

Contra is all about memorization. Learn where the blimps are, what they have, and where the death traps are, or you'll never beat the game. And they're fun as hell games. So you three can get the [tornado fang] off my internet.

First stage of MMX would be the obvious choice. But then again, they didn't pick the obvious choice for Zero. So who knows what they'll pick. Me, I'd go with the X8 boss theme.

And if Sigma somehow makes it, he needs his final boss theme from X6. They don't even need to remix it. It's perfect as is.

516
Her name was Bel, actually. And the names mean the same thing. But yeah, unnecessary change.

I've always picked the grass starter the first time through playing a generation. Don't know if I'll follow through with that in Gen V. I'll likely just pick what my friends didn't pick.

517
Tepig is probably the best choice because he's the only dual typed starter when evolved. Originality be damned, Fighting is useful.

The ones for Spider-Man are [tornado fang]ing nuts.

I was stuck on mission 7 with him for a while. The Web Swing at the end would just not come out. But eventually I was able to get it, then 8 and 9 as well, which gave me the 320 missions achievement. 8 and 9 weren't as bad as 7. So now I have at least 7 done with everyone except Joe.

The missions in this game are not bad on the whole. There are some tricky ones, but they can all be done with a little effort. I mean, they're certainly easier than the missions in SSFIV and BBCS.

Any commercial that asks you to text to get a ringtone or picture or horoscopes or whatever. Do 14 year old girls actually buy that stuff?

Any Happy Meal commercial. Apple fries are the demon's food. And show a god damn hamburger!

And although they were apparently popular, I hated the Doritos commercials for this year's Super Bowl.
