DASH / Re: The reason why the US Devroom is still online
« on: October 06, 2012, 05:20:36 AM »
why would you judge a game based on the company that made it

a game is a game
I can see the rationale behind that, and I FULLY subscribe to the idea that boycotting an otherwise good game based solely on the company name attached to it hurts the creative developers a lot more than it does the corporate assholes.

On the other hand, our grievances are with the developing company, not merely the publisher, and that puts us in a dilemma.  True as the above statement may be, if Capcom knows what we want, and they refuse to supply despite every damn follower knowing full well they have a perfectly marketable "prologue" product gathering dust on their hard drives, then why SHOULD we embrace their substitutes?

It's a pain in the ass.  As much as I want to forward their creativity, I do not want to submit to such a bait-and-switch, either.  It's not even that they didn't make a worthwhile Mega Man game; they made one (albeit a small one) and deliberately withheld it.  Capcom needs to rectify that before I even THINK about touching their new IPs, and they're lucky that I'm enough of an Ace Attorney/Monster Hunter crack addict to even continue supporting them.  Will I miss some good games?  Of course I will.  But the reality is, there are more "good games" out there than there is time for me to play them all, and if I want to experiment with an uncertain but promising IP, I'm not going to do it with a company that experimented with me only to kick me in the teeth at the last second.

What happened? Were you forced to reset?
That or just run around in the room listening to the boss music for eternity.

Why the flying [tornado fang] are we misconstruing developers showing their love of Rockman DASH for corporate spite?
It's a matter of the fact that they're directly referencing the cancelled game (Servbots building a rocket with a touch screen device) rather than simply throwing in some loving for the Legends series in general.  For all the negativity towards XOver, Trigger appearing in the promotional art was marginally comforting (and the reaction to his subsequent absence from the trailer was a bit prickly, as well).

However, I will say this: If a Legends-loving employee finds that the greatest way to continue to generate interest in the series is to [acid burst] us off, then by all means, have at it.
Relevant video rant  Long story short: Whining and bitching works better than any boycott.

I like to think it'll take too much work for Capcom to actually take down the site.
Got a good chuckle from that.  I'd probably agree if not for the fact that somebody actually bothered to fix the broken Servbot system.

I think CoA is about as close to a dignified branch of Capcom as we've got.  Too bad CoJ calls the shots.

Rockman X2: Soul Eraser, why am I playing you?  You clearly aren't going to let me beat you without getting at least one piece of armor, you make Zero look like a pansy, and you took away my Quick Dash button from the first game.

You're a monster.  T_T
A true victory for gaming, is to make you realize you were wrong to oppose Soul Eraser in the first place.  To FORCE YOU to acknowledge its GREATNESS!!!
(Man, I've been watching too much Star Trek...)

Let me try that again: Zero is AWESOME, proper air dash momentum is AWESOME, Ultimate Buster is AWESOME, armor part slot exploit is AWESOME, Fish Fang is AWESOME, scramble change is AWESOME, and Iris makes any game better.

Oh please, if anyone gets shot in this thread, it's going to be for this:

Boom Boom Bar World
Enemies are all over the place but move very little, as they're too busy dancing to Walk The Dinosaur.

If I didn't say this before, I'll say it now: This game is 100% ecchi.
...I'd be VERY surprised if it honestly took anyone this long to figure that out.

Watch the Vita game get localized while the comparatively tame 3DS games stay Japan-only because they're too evil.

One time in MM3 (on Wii's VC), I killed both Gemini Men without actually ending the boss battle.  No idea how the hell I did it or how I would reproduce it, but it was funny.

Back to 9.0-ing Kid Icarus Uprising.  Man, I missed that game.  I expect relatively smooth sailing, save for Chapters 18 and 24...  *shudder*

X / Re: Vile/VAVA: Anti Hero or Villain?
« on: October 03, 2012, 01:07:37 AM »
For the Quint case, Dr. Wily must've gotten lucky as Mega Man might've broke the unwritten hero rule #4 at the time, otherwise, Zero was made to counter anything that Dr. Light achives to fuel his own ego as I like to think the entire thing was played out in a Cain and Abel-like manner.
IIRC (and I CANNOT source this; Zan may have better luck than me), the story goes that the Rock that Wily kidnapped was living a peaceful life with a genuinely reformed future-Wily.  However, future-Wily re-evaluated his views after encountering his past self, and the two conspired together to capture future-Rock.

Looking at Wily's actions in the X-series, most notably X5 and X6, it seems to me that Wily doesn't give a damn about dominating the world anymore (despite X5's flashback imagery).  Rather, it's all about the rivalry, X-vs-Zero, the finest of his works, and so forth.  He appears only when Zero's survival or Zero battling X are of concern.  It's also noticeable that in X5, Awakened Zero's ONLY concern is to destroy X, nothing else.

"I don't care about the Mavericks anymore... All I have to do is one thing..."

I'm thinking ghost, since X and Zero are spending some time in cyberspace and all.

I'm definitely interested to see what goes on.  I mean, post-X4 Iris is the subject of all kinds of fan speculation.  Anxious to see what Bandai and Monolith came up with (although they seem to not be paying that close attention given that X doesn't recognize his own navigator from the Erasure).

Ick, its not like the screen resolution of the NES is bigger than the 3DS resolution, right?
An actual NES hooked up to a television stretches the screen horizontally somewhat (neither of the NES's two resolutions are a proper 4:3 ratio).  That's why us old guys all screwed up our precision jumping when we first played Mario Bros. Deluxe on the Gameboy Color.  Throughout a handheld generation of Mario Advance ports, we adjusted.

What's going on is that the 3DS is attempting to simulate that old TV stretching instead of doing a straight 256x240 window.  But it looks ugly as hell on a fixed pixel display, I agree.

No, but I wouldn't put it past them.  Nintendo's disregard for hackers up until present day has mainly been because their network setups aren't advanced enough to track them to begin with.  With 3DS and WiiU that is most likely changing.  But until someone actually hacks a 3DS game, we won't know for certain.

I'm not sure I follow how the Zero clips impact the whole "Is Rock X?" discussion.  But X is taller, lighter, and MHX made it absolutely clear that his mind is a blank slate, so um...yeah.

Zero's purpose is simply to satisfy Wily's ego, which naturally means besting Light's crowning achievement, whoever that may be.  I personally am of the mentality that Wily's own ambitions probably shifted around over the course of Zero's construction (more to the point I believe that Quint's future is still valid by the whole predestined paradox logic, but that is complete speculation on my part), so I'd have a hard time saying that Zero "always" had any one specific purpose.

Borrowing this thread for a bit.

Hey everyone (and Hypershell and OBJECTION MAN and Satoryu and others), look what I can do now~

No it's not a webcam image. XD

I can do live streams and video recordings too~ :cookie:

Thank you, loopy, for your hard work! <3
Ho.  Ly.  [tornado fang].

Sweet news, Vix!  We'll have to make it a point to connect online sometime ('specially since I FINALLY got my gold glider in MK7).

Indeed.  If you DON'T find an insulting thing to be offensive, then it wasn't a very good insult.

why do people continue to keep up with this game if they have no interest in it
Because no matter how craptacular it is, it's still the most significant piece of news in the fandom.  If any remotely half-assed game were coming out, XOver would be properly ignored.

It's no Brave New World, but it seems catchy enough.

Gaming / Re: Nintendo Releases New Wii U Details: PB is Pleased

Turtle Beach is getting WiiU-branded headsets out right from the get-go, it seems.  Yay!

Same connector as on the 3DS, which is handy.  Certainly looks more appealing than those square things I never heard of before.  >.>

This will probably steer me closer to Monster Hunter Ultimate.  I mean, I ASSUME Capcom is still putting enough effort into that franchise to use voice chatting, so you know, I can actually play an online cooperative game and be able to communicate without juggling a keyboard (the original Tri taught me that I am one of three people on this continent who own a Wii Speak).

28 in November.  Glad PB is making me feel young. :P

Ah, war stories.  I used to pass the SNES controller with my friends whenever switching between X and Zero in X3, 'cuz we were just that desperate for a 2 player Mega Man game.  I was the one to locate the body capsule and the last two heart tanks in X1 after my older brother and his buddy swore up and down they found everything.  And the very first game I ever bought my own copy of after knowing full well my brothers already had it, was The Misadventures of Tron Bonne ($15 bargain rack, SCORE!).

I hope ProjectXzone doesn't get localized. Now hold on. Put the torches do- PUT THE TORCHES DOWN.

Heres the logic. ProjectXZone is a highly anticipated, popular, title. It has the same weight as Namco X Capcom had, and we all know where that lead; A fan translation.

What does the 3DS lack that the PS2 has? The ability to play patched/altered/homebrew games, via various methods.

ProjectXZone will drive the homebrew community to get their things together and create some method to play other region titles. They will want to fan tranlsate it so bad, just like Namco X Capcom, it will drive the whole event to fruition.

Now, the side effects to this are; Now we can play titles from other regions. We're already missing out on a ton of stuff for the 3DS that will never make it over here.

But it extends further than that. When an inevitable super rouge agent inside Capcom takes the completed Legends 3 prototype build and releases it to the deserving fans, we'll have an avenue to play it.

It's for the greater good!
I am keeping a VERY tight grip on my torch...but you'll go un-burned for now.

The main problem with that scenario is that the 3DS actually has worthwhile network functionality, so you're more likely to get caught up in firmware wars and anti-piracy/homebrew efforts.  Honestly, knowing that the system monitors what games you're playing, I'd damn near buy a whole new system for hacking anyway.

I certainly want my console broken in the event that any Legends 3 leaks are made, no doubt there.  Still, I'd like to think that some OTHER game could light a fire under the hackers' asses.  Maybe Layton Vs. Ace Attorney seeings how we've still heard nothing about that one.

From our friend Captain Headdy

"What a great anniversary"
You know, that is probably the best Mega Man 25th celebration...anything, that I've yet seen.

Of course, Samus's 25th got buried because her own fans turned their backs on her.  Mega Man has the opposite problem.  Heh, maybe now WOULD be a good time for the two to meet.

Putting effort in a Megaman game is a punishable crime within Capcom
Yeah, I'm guessing whoever drew that first XOver art piece has long since been locked in a dark basement.

It is inevitably even worse than I expected. I'm not sure how that was possible. I just had a feeling maybe the developers were even SLIGHTLY motivated to make a product they can at least be in some way shape or form, even in the smallest amount, proud of being a part of.

Apparently that's not the case.
Took the words right out of my mouth.  I mean...you can't even control MOVEMENT?!  If they wanted to do a dignified auto-scroll level they could have at least thrown in a vehicle.  It's not even like it'd have taken much effort; half the assets are SNES sprites with a filter anyway.

Not even my most pessimistic rage-fits could have imagined the boss battle being the sad excuse for a looping cutscene that it turned out to be.  Ugh.

This is why gamers hate the iPhone.  It's not that it CAN'T be a good gaming device; its that developers treat it like a latrine.  THIS is what fulfills Capcom's uber-secretive "certain criteria" that denied the Legends 3 prologue after it was already done and ready?  Capcom:  What.  The.  [tornado fang]?

Actually, he makes an interesting observation about a clearly troubled, arguably near-sighted character. Iris is likable because she's tender, emotional, and has a relationship with Zero, but I've yet to see anyone examine her actions and motivations like this beyond "don't kill my brother". Her infatuation with a world populated only by a superior race also brings up serious implications about her world view and how she deals with problems.
Well, that's because "don't kill my brother" really WAS the center of why Iris was in X4.  I mean, I love her, but I have a hard time saying that X4 utilized her well.  She basically existed for the full and sole purpose of giving Zero a valid reason to not be a complete hardass throughout his entire story.  They used her to that end immediately and only bothered to establish her character after the point through flashbacks and prequels.  I guess we ought to be thankful they did that at all, though; more often the fans are left to only their own speculation with such characters.

So far as the world just for Reploids goes, I don't think Iris would have employed herself with the Hunters if she sincerely believed that.  When facing an excessively large level of grief it is natural that your views on life are shaken (WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOR?!!).  Iris, from her point of view, simply wanted the fighting to stop.  It was all based in the tension between humans and Reploids, and a world where only Reploids exist was a perfect escape.  But as she told Zero, no matter how much she wanted to believe it, she knows deep down that life doesn't work that way.

Unfortunately, the front and center piece for Iris, as far as character analysis goes, is her at her weakest.  Over-analyzing that risks distorting the character.  She was faced with tragedy, she tried to run away, and she died for it.  It's tricky business making sense of every piece of dialogue in that scenario; you could speculate for ages about what if anything she was trying to accomplish.  But knowing what that orb is, and why Colonel and Iris have the relationship that they do (all stuff that X4 in itself doesn't bother to tell you), the fact that she used the thing at all says that she valued her brother's memory over her own life.
