Not at all. Only when legends is mentioned does everyone go batshit crazy.
I submit to you UMvC3.  And SFxT.  And XOver.

the Tails Clan uses it in Command Mission, where they call it Annihilator Hadouken.
Thank you.

The term "Shinku Hadouken" has never appeared in any Mega Man game.

The special attacks were all the same, yes, but he also got alternate guns from a select few bosses that would modify his normal attack.

Then in X8 they decided to make that the template for ALL of his stolen boss abilities.

Im surprised they didnt make Axl a rapid fire shooter from the start. He really was just X minus a charged shot. X8 did Axl SO much better. but then again, they couldnt really do multi directional shooting in X7 like X8, could they?
Auto-lock.  No point.

The only thing Axl really has over X is his alternate primary weapons.  G-Launcher was pretty sweet.  That's about it.

X7 has the second best Boss theme in the series. X5 in first place.
...I don't think my brain can process that statement unless I assume you're talking about one of the special boss fights.  X5's regular boss theme is the standard against which all audio torture is measured.

The X franchise would not recover UNTIL THE LAST GAME IN THE SERIES, when we finally got the unfettered awesomeness that our heroes have lacked for so long.
Considering how god-awful the story (not to mention the power-up and ranking systems in general) was with their first attempted "last game in the series", I wouldn't put much weight on that theory.

But he is. Inafune said it himself. Every game revolves around him.
...he's not wrong, you know.  I mean, Inafune's idea of finality is, "Kill Zero and nobody will care what happens to the blue guy."

Honestly this is the only argument I need to never play X7.
For God's sake, people, borrow somebody's memory card if you're that desperate.  It is absolutely impossible to "miss" X, and he carries into New Game Plus.  The only reason you DON'T start the game with him is because if you did, nobody in their right mind would go near Axl.  That and his charged shot is INSANELY powerful.

If you're going to avoid X7, avoid it for X's whining.  Or the level design.  Or the fact that 90% of the game's attacks are improperly balanced in one of the two gameplay modes.

I believe that was true of the Legends series in general long before L3.  It's just more so now.

There was just too much damn awesome in that video.

So not only do we have the dash-saber exploit, but I noticed they're also using the combo+Raijingeki charge cancel.

Also...ANNIHILATOR HADOUKEN+RAPID GENMUREI??!!!  Man, those bad guys are completely f*@#!ed.

607
Good to know we've started condoning irrationality.
Started?  How long have you been on the internet?

All I'm saying is that it's to be expected.  That doesn't necessarily make it right.

608
Like I said, it's the X costumes all over again.  There is no malice here, I have absolutely no doubt of that.  That doesn't make the reaction any less expected, though, at least not to me.

So why are we taking it out on other companies now?
Again, it's not supposed to be rational.  Capcom's name is on it, whether they actually made it or not.  That's all the excuse they need.

Reality check: using broad generalizations is generally doomed to failure, for what is true of the part is not necessarily true of the whole.
Which is why most reasonably intelligent individuals who use such generalizations do so loosely as a figure of speech, especially when they are trying to be brief.  You're being too literal.  Now go comb the desert.

It's not at all silly or unreasonable to be ticked that a company took nine months of free labor and delivered absolutely nothing.  Doubly so when they backtracked on their own procedure for gauging the validity of the project, and in doing so withheld any consolation prizes that would have otherwise still been available in the event of our failure.

609
It would be an insult if some other company were to show them up now, and they know it.
As if PXZ isn't doing that already.  Honestly it doesn't take much at this point.

I kinda doubt Nintendo would be interested, though, besides MAYBE a Smash cameo if anyone actually picks up the phone this time around.  Nintendo already has an iron-clad grip on the "golden age" demographic that Mega Man appeals to.  Judging by what's going on with the WiiU, if Nintendo is going to ask for somebody else's IPs, they'll be geared towards appeasing the "hardcooore!" audience that's been rejecting Mega Man for the last three console generations.

So in another thread there's moaning that a successful rocket launch shouldn't happen in a crossover game, and in here there's moaning that the rocket development was delayed in a crossover game? Make up your mind people! You'd rather they say the effort to save Rock has been cancelled?

Seriously now, the cycle of rocket development and failure has been part of the plot since DASH2. To tell of any story in that timeframe, without stepping into the sequel's territory, will require it as part of the setting. I'd prefer to cover new ground over further saturating the story between the first two games.
Reality check: The entire fanbase is still pissed over Legends 3 and Capcom's lack of any "proper response" (read: release the damn Prototype).  In light of that, any perceived "inadequate response" from Capcom will thus trigger fan-rage.

It's the UMvC3 X costume all over again.  It's not SUPPOSED to be rational.  People who feel betrayed and pissed off generally aren't.

DASH / Re: Can Bandai get Mega Man off the F***ING moon?
« on: October 18, 2012, 04:31:11 AM »
Oh you know deep down inside this isn't the first time we've agreed. Search your feelings. We both love X6, right? That is you, right? The guy that loves X6?
Touche.  X6 is my favorite main-series X game (my favorite X game including all side-stories is Xtreme2; X4 ranks in a solid third).

Anyway, hoping for Legends for Roll, or X for Alia, or Classic for Classic Roll.

Really I just want more females.
I'm all for more Mega-gals (heck, outside of Legends, my next most wanted character would be Iris), but on Classic Roll, I kinda wish Bandai would stay away from redundancy with Kotobukiya.  That's why D-Arts Rock is kinda low on my priority list.  I mean, yeah, they threw in Rush and a Met, which is awesome, but still.

Mind explaining how the Legends fans are supposed to show the demand's there if there is literally nothing on the market to help demonstrate that demand? (Cameos aside, but those don't really mean much)

That's the real clincher, isn't it?  It's not very often I find myself arguing against Flame, but all this talk of "support vs. demand" and whether sales will be greater or lesser than the perceived support, is pure conjecture.  Nobody outside of Japan (and even that was only in the most minimal and unambitious methods possible) has put a theory in either direction to the test for the last 12 years, and dismissing any such potential demand based solely on guesswork gets irritating very, very quickly.

I also don't necessarily buy into the theory that NYCC better connects with Mega Man fans.  I get why people would think that, but here's the thing: I was there.  Do you know how many "visible" Mega Man fans I met?  Three.  One passed by with a simple hello, and the other two I talked to long enough to know that they supported Legends, and owned a couple of semi-niche Legends products that net a couple hundred bucks on eBay these days.

Mega Man is in a serious dry spell on Capcom's end, represented at NYCC solely by Bandai themselves (primarily X-series, some Classic) and Archie (Classic series).  The fans know this, and it showed in the audience this year.  The blue bomber's presence was, unsurprisingly, not nearly what it was in either 2010 or 2011.  NYCC 2012 hits the "general gaming/comic" audience, not the Mega Man fanbase, and that such an audience identifies best with Classic and X is only natural.  It's not in the least unreasonable to say that such a demograph would turn out biased; certainly a lot less unreasonable than the constant accusations of Legends bias on the internet based solely on the fact that Get Me Off The Moon exists.  Even among the Mega Man fans who do show, the reality is, Classic and X fans have commercially-backed reasons to attend such conventions.  Legends fans do not.

If anything, maintaining the level of support that Legends has (and no,
this didn't start with L3's cancellation
) after 12 years of absolutely no official backing says a lot.  X is considered troubled after going through a hiatus for a fraction of that time, and Classic saw official support a mere two years ago.  That Legends can even be compared to those two is worth some consideration in itself.  Compared to the other Mega Man brands, Legends demand is kicking the crap out of all four of its younger and more recently supported siblings (Zero-series Kotobukiya, yeah, that went well), and pretty much anyone with a brain stem could tell that Legends 3 was seriously one-upping Universe in terms of its hype (a trend which continues to this day in their respective revival efforts; if you want to see a game that people only talk about out of general support for the Mega Man series, look up Universe's facebook page).

For once I agree with Ladd.  Also, any figure to bear Dynamo's name needs to be indestructible.  If it's not functional after being blown up 10 times, it cannot bear Dynamo's name.

I guess they figured conventions would be a good place to poll, since they're hitting the collector demograph?  Pisses me off that I was there Sunday and I missed that, but oh well.

I gotta say, I'm really liking that Dave Bulmer fellow...

Gotta find it amusing though, considering most of the [parasitic bomb] is the sequel to Namco X Capcom, AND how other companies are still peeved at this as well, so this little musing must've come from one of the developers from either SEGA or Namco trying to salvage whatever they can for PXZ and not capcom, or it would've REEKED of butthurt.
IIRC, Sega is no more a developer of PXZ than Capcom is.  Game development was done jointly by Banpresto and Monolith.

*PURE* wild and unlikely speculation here, but I would find it all kinds of hilarious if that line was Monolith's idea, them being owned by Nintendo and all.  I mean, Capcom DID cost Big N one of the precious few e-Shop launch titles to get any level of press beforehand; and it'd have pretty much been the only thing outside of the Virtual Console that they weren't giving away for free at the time.  Hell, it was five months before the e-Shop had any exclusive video game at all (Freakyforms).

615
Haha, sweet.

What's that used for, anyway?  Reiji and Xaiomu's theme, or just some random event?

If you decide to go "the opposite way" with characters and levels in Hard Mode -- which is to say, if you play X's levels with Zero and Zero's levels with X -- you get screwed out of armor parts because you don't have the right weapons to access the areas where the armor parts art.  Zero's Fire Wave can't burn down that wood barrier in Neon Tiger's stage and none of X's weapons can penetrate the barriers in Tunnel Rhino or Blast Hornet's stages, charged or not.  You end up missing X's helmet part and Zero's arm and body parts due to this. (And X's "Shotokan Style" upgrade, if you count that.)
You can buy X's armor from Iris for 2000 DNA Souls.  Zero is screwed, though.

Quote
In addition, there doesn't seem to be a way for Zero to hurt Final Sigma.  He never gets an Air Dash upgrade and none of this moves do anything to Sigma's battle suit.  You're forced to switch to X and use his vertical air dash to kick Sigma's butt.  Which of course means if you didn't get the Leg Part capsule for X, you can't beat Sigma, and you can't beat the game.
You couldn't be more wrong
: Attacking at the peak of Zero's jump WILL damage Sigma, but will NOT cause the full screen flash associated with smacking him in the face after X's air-dash.
Watch Sigma's coloring.  Only X can hurt him when he's blue, only Zero can hurt him when he's red, and both can hurt him while he's yellow.

Is this game better than the first?  Marginally.

Damn Nintendo, and here I thought I was finally done with game-specific codes...

Well, it'll be a while before I jump into Pokemon again.  I still haven't gotten up the nerve to drudge through the Dream World long enough for my Dratini, and like hell if I'm starting a new Pokemon game without one.

Gaming / Re: PETA's Pokémon: Black & Blue
« on: October 10, 2012, 03:04:09 AM »
I was 11 when the first Pokemon was released. I loved the game to death, and rightly so as a well designed communal game me and all of my friends would play. Pokemon certainly earns it's reputation as a classic and a cultural phenomenon. Now, while perhaps mild, it did influence my behavior a little. I did at one time capture and keep a bee as a pet like a 'pokemon'. The action was taken as a direct result of deciding that was the closest thing I'll get to having a pokemon in reality. It never went above an insect, certainly not like I was trapping mammals in the wild, or fighting dogs, but the sentiment was there never the less. I captured this insect against it's will, and held it captive in a container hoping to emulate what I saw in the game. The capture likely lead to it's death, and surely stripped it of it's freedom. It is exactly the point the PETA game is trying to make.

And that was a way more serious post than I thought it was going to be...
Dude, I was doing that to fireflies and brine shrimp LONG before Pokemon came out...  Every kid thinks it's fun to keep animals without regard to how the hell to care for them; the cultural phenomenon called "pets" is what introduces that idea.

Also Tanuki are mythical animals. PETA was attacking Mario to defend a mythical creature.
Nope.  Tanuki are real, tanuki demons are mythical.  Like foxes.

Rockman Series / Re: [News] No New Game for 25th Anniversary (Probably)
« on: October 10, 2012, 02:30:31 AM »
You'd rather Capcom never speak of DASH3 ever again? I'd much rather preserve the game's assets and give characters like Barret and Aero an equal right to exist. Would it not be cool if Rock Voulnut's new design were used more rather than less?

Don't get me wrong, though. The fanbase can and should whine all it wants about the current situation. I just advocate it being directed properly at corporate Capcom, and not the creative team.
It sounds like we're in agreement and merely nit-picking over how discerning the fans should be in their bitching.  The fact that Capcom, the company, encompasses both ass-faced publisher and beloved developer is inevitably going to blur those lines, and any game that includes the latter will inevitably also included the former.  I never specified which of the two I was directing my comments at, though, you did.

I haven't done the whole "physics exploit research" thing with Xtreme2 that I have with X6, but I can very clearly see Barrier use to wall-kick off of the death traps at the bottom of that shaft, and you gripping the wall when you reach the top.  EXTREMELY difficult to time correctly, but it looks do-able to me.  I'll have to try that sometime.

You can.  The dash boots just let you air-dash.  However air-dashing is *FAR* more useful in Xtreme2 than it is in, say, the PS1 games, both because the GBC actually handles the air dash physics better, and because there is no single-button dash on the ground.  You can still double-tap to dash jump, though, as well as the "slide" input of Down+B if you intend to stay grounded.
