Two attempts and I cleared 5 Anna Firefight.  Never saw the reinforcements.

Not bad considering I didn't have anyone with arrows along.  XD

I still gotta go back and get that Limit Breaker skill, so I can make Manakete-Morgan even more awesome than she already is.

You know, I don't have a link, but I saw some clips of what appeared to be hidden areas added to an older stage...

Seriously? SERIOUSLY?
Calling the touch screen controls gimmicky is like calling an analog stick gimmicky. In fact, PH and ST had the best touch controls the DS had to offer. (ST even improved them by getting rid of that stupid rolling technique in favor of a quick double tap.) I found it way easier just using the buttons to pop up menus or quick-select an item rather than having to access all that from the touch screen.
Oh well. Different strokes for different folks.
What I call "gimmicky" about that is ignoring all other inputs your hardware has to offer even when they are in every way appropriate, just because.  I'm aware of very few if any analogue stick games to do that.

Touch-screen games don't bother me.  Touch-only games, they kinda do.

Seems like Nintendo is going New Super Mario on their other franchises, both in gameplay design and visual presentation.  The earlier, if it works as well, damn awesome.  The latter......I'll get used to it.

Well, I figured SOMEBODY would appreciate them.

I don't know if it's transparency or just us having too much time to think about it. Ingame I wouldn't expect Barret's identity to remain mysterious too long. You can only stretch it so thin before one must elaborate on why this guy can stand on equal footing with Rock.

Then again... Axl.
In all fairness, every battle that Axl was ever in involved teamwork with another hero.  I'm also not willing to accept that everyone in Legends is as inept as the average NPCs appear; after all, just look at what "player-controlled character" logic does for a Bonne robot.

Still, point taken on time to digest.

I kinda hoped they'd not be THAT transparent, but I don't know.

I guess the real telling detail would be how much of a backstory Barrett had.  He didn't strike me as a "new recruit" to the Bright Bats or anything, but I guess they could have gone that way.

A Megaman FPS developed by the Metroid Prime games team sounds like it might be fun, as long as they didn't bog it down with current FPS gameplay trends.
The videos seem to indicate that is EXACTLY what they did (ditto for visuals and sfx), which is why I'm kinda glad that this one got the axe.

So we're at, what, 4-1/2 cancellations?  Yeah, it hurts.  But I need to be a lot more desperate than I am now (which is saying a LOT) before "western-dark-and-gritty-HARDCOOORE!!111-FPS-reboot" of an anime-style game franchise is my idea of a good time.

o~O  ...you know, I think CoA leaked this on purpose, because only now can I honestly say, "I'd rather play XOver."

Just figured a little historic preservation was in order.

You know, I don't recall much discussion about that "fire of all creation" (mentioned on page 5 as part of the background leading up to the Donner Wels mission).  Gotta wonder if it's something really important, or just another "Elixir of Youth" scenario.  Somehow I can't shake the notion of Barrett discovering an ancient barbecue grill...

Well, all that Galeforce farming on Lunatic+ ought to come in handy about now. 8)

Should probably focus more on stats and less on supports in my grinding, though.  I've still yet to tackle the Rogues & Redeemers series; first I want to recruit the rest of the kids.

I don't see the big deal about it if it is a new Forme, if it is you can always change it back/not use it.
Granted.  I'm more worried about what this means for Smash Bros.

Although, in the Pokemon games proper, there is the question of "why screw with perfection?"  Mewtwo is considered to have pretty much the ideal stat distribution (assuming for the sake of argument that simply puming up his Base Stat total, such as restoring his Special Defense to what it was before the Gen2 split, is off the table), and now that he FINALLY has a freaking signature move in combination with the ever awesome Aura Sphere, about the only thing his movepool is lacking is Nasty Plot.

...well, that and I guess they could give him some Ability that doesn't suck.

Gaming / Re: Megaman + Monster Hunter = Capcom's new Gaist Crusher?
« on: April 07, 2013, 06:16:04 AM »
Does it look like a Mega Man game? Sure.

Does it play like a Mega Man game? Not really.
Character =/= gameplay formula.  Not only is your statement also true of Gaist, but one could just as easily take that same stance towards Command Mission or Legends.

From what I see in that trailer, Gaist's gameplay looks a lot more like Power Stone or a faster-paced Monster Hunter than it does any 3D venture of Mega Man's.

In a world that already has "Mega Man", why would I settle for something that is "like" Mega Man?

I am cautiously... pessimistic.

Not sure what anyone else would think about the game, but I feel something is off about this.
It may very well be damn good, but what gets a negative knee-jerk response is the fact that Capcom's most significant line in that press release is when they tell us what franchises they own that this game ISN'T.  Not a particularly smart way to advertise, IMHO, but then Capcom's marketing department has generally sucked for many years.

I love how even with every hack and physics exploit under the sun used in full force, Z-Buster spamming is STILL the best way to bring down Infinity Mijinion. XD

Scaravich was BRILLIANT.

Heatnix taught me one thing: If any of us are ever in contact with Lucas Gilbertson again, we simply MUST record him yelling, "REKKOHA!!!"

That's not exactly chump change, especially when you combine the fact that the WiiU is bombing hard and the 3DS had a very rough start forcing the half price drop. They were undoubtedly losing money on each 3DS sale, but the question is, are they actually making money on the 3DS unit sales at all even still? I'd have to guess not because the price drop was so dramatic. This may also change their manufacturing costs for the 3DS, and licensing costs for the technology in place. This all drops their income, and or raises their expenses. It's not just the 30mil, even though that's pretty bad in itself.

It won't sink them, but it's really bad regardless.
Supposedly Nintendo was no longer selling the 3DS at a loss as of July 25, 2012.

My wallet's safe as long as they don't release a Dragonite figure...

I don't really care about Mewtwo, but I wish they didn't give him Unnerve for a hidden ability.  So many Pokemon have it for a hidden ability when they can have something better.
...well, it beats the hell out of Pressure, which was the "generic past Legendary Ability" beforehand.

Personally, I want to see a main-series game (Gen III remake or otherwise) that allows the same level of trainer customization as Battle Revolution.  Both outfits AND battle lines.  I miss that a lot.

Mewtwo
Crap, now I gotta watch the anime again.  >w<

As for the VA, yes Dan Green was awesome, but Mewtwo's had two other english VAs (well, one grown-up and one baby), and I haven't heard a bad one yet.  So, here's hoping.

Yay for the fact that we can finally get Ragnell (even if it's a throwing weapon now...?).

It'll be a while before I detour into DLC again, though.  Still trying to claw my way to Lunatic+'s Outrealm Gate (after a great many resets; randomly finding Soothing Sword and Eirika's Blade helps a LOT, but it's still a pain when everyone gets Counter/Aegis/Pavise-happy in Chapter 3).

Beat Lunatic today after having skipped all Paralogues (other than Morgan's recruitment).  Took a max stats Mist, max stats Marth w/ Parallel Falchion, near max M.U. (Sorceror), Chrom w/ Exalted Falchion, Olivia, and a fair amount of luck.

Then I got my first taste of Lunatic+.  I thought the game would wait a few chapters before dishing out those dreaded enemy-exclusive skills.  Not so.  Vantage+, Luna+, and Hawkeye are assigned randomly right from the Prologue.  There is no pre-set pattern to what enemy gets what skill, either.  At one point I started up and EVERY enemy in the vicinity had Luna+, half of them stacking Vantage+ on top of it.

Merry Christmas.

Downtime was a sub-comic hosted under the server for Stage Select: When Robot Masters Attack.  The owner of Stage Select yanked all comics, both her own and the subs, after an extended bout of inactivity.

For any of you who haven't read it, do so.  Now.  It's frikkin' hilarious.

The funny thing is, Downtime was up/inactive for so long that I COMPLETELY forgot that I had ever archived it, and later went to grab whatever snippits I could salvage after it was taken down ('tis how I found the New Years flash ani).  It was only thanks to this thread that I re-checked my folders and found my original archive. So, yeah, thanks Vile 0! :V

Well, I've tanked up a max-stats Mist and Marth.  Problem is, even the early levels of Lunatic are kicking my ass.

Maybe PoR/RD spoiled me, but I kind of empathize with the people who are not happy that relying on your "Jeigan" character is absolutely required.  As far as I'm concerned the pre-promoted unit is supposed to be for either emergency use, or sheer favoritism.

My progress of Chapter 2 is best summarized by Frank Drebin's description of sex: "It's a painstaking arduous task that seems to go on and on forever, and just when you think things are going your way, nothing happens."

Not only must EVERY MOVE BE PERFECT even though you're dealing with 70-80% accuracy, but inevitably once you clear 2/3 of the map some idiot with a 50% hit, 6% critical decides to OHKO Frederick just to be a dick.

Posted on: March 01, 2013, 11:03:24 PM
Well, made it, eventually.  Thankfully, it seems Chapter 2 was the hardest thing about Lunatic.  3 is tricky to start, but if you can secure the Hammer, you've got it made.  4 was a cakewalk by comparison.

A few Golden Gaffe grinds later, and Marth and Mist are owning everything as planned.  We'll see if things get hairy in later Chapters...
