I'd say you were more fire-stream-raped than anything.  0%-to-KOed in a single winged assault. 8)

We were pretty even during the three-ways, though (and you played a mean Zelda, for sure).

Legendary, I don't know why the game keeps displaying a green light for you, because you have the WORST lag of anybody I fight.

What kind of idiot can possibly NOT use the Ultimate Armor successfully in the final X5 battle?

Barring Nova Strike spamming, Shadow Armor is every bit a match for Ultimate.  Then there's the fact that, barring X5, Ultimate is available only by passcode.

*smacks HyperSonic.EXE with his magical talking fish*

Shadow Armor rocks all socks!  Equip it with Overdrive and Ultimate Buster, and you have one of the most badass engines of destruction the series has ever seen.

Well, as Jelly said, it's pretty hard to NOT play at least an average Marth, the guy is extremely user-friendly.  Granted I think that was more true in Melee than in Brawl; Falchion's reach appears shorter.  Back in Melee Marth was my "big guns" despite Yoshi and Mewtwo getting far more play time.  Although the fact that the AI was dumb as a doorknob back then helped a lot too.

EDITS MUCH LATER: Playing random matches online now, I'll be on 'till midnight at least.  I see Akamaru online but he's not hosting, so I can't join.

A crappy one, because it's not an MP3 player at all.  It's strictly an AAC player.  If you want to play MP3s, you want a flash card with Moonshell, not a DSi.

And yeah, the region-lock sucks, but I'm not even sure if "DSi exclusive games" will ever exist in cartridge format at all.  No flash card can as of yet access the DSi's features, it's possible that booting to a cartridge kicks the DSi into "legacy" mode automatically.  Or it could just be that flash card manufacturers want something out in the meantime until they fully crack the DSi's encryption.  It's a matter of whether or not Nintendo designed the DSi's extra stuff to be exclusive to downloadables and firmware, which currently they are.  Whether or not Big N left a window open for the future, we don't know.

Well since the power button is smaller than the first DS and is located lower, it lowers the chance of an accidental reset.
You have to hold the power button for just as long on the original DS as you do the slider on the Lite.  So you are actually less prone to accidental resets on the original since you can SEE the button, unless you just can't get it through your head that start and select are on the other side.

In that case, get a DSi.  But I hate the Lite's slider.  It's EVIL. -_-

Classic energy bars are 28 notches, right?
Threw me off.  I thought it was 32 (the notches on Zero, ZX, and SNES X boss bars).

I guess that's the reason SNES X weapon bars are two heart tanks lower than the life bars.
Full life minus 4 notches = 28.

I know exactly what you're talking about.  Even though X4 reworked the visuals, the presentation, and even added a melee combat character, the general structure still adhered to the SNES standard (besides Zero lacking a proper weapon cycle, anyway).  That was the last "classic formula" X-series game.  Each entry since then has, to varying degrees, attempted to re-invent the power-up system (sans Xtreme1, but I don't think much of that title anyway), and we all know that arsenal is a big part of MegaMan.

In this way I think X5 botched up the formula worse than any other; despite the stage select option still existing the game is clearly designed with a predetermined boss order in mind (Grizzly to Red).  Most of the power-up distribution was pretty damn ill-conceived, too, being tied to extra boss rewards (getting a high enough status for that in and of itself was ill-conceived, as suicide and pacifism benefit you) that forbade numerous combinations.

X6 recycled the parts while solving the above issue by tying them to stage collection.  Despite the obvious rushed production, X6 had a surprisingly deep layout; it was one of the few games where finding stuff was actually engaging, as opposed to the "use weapon x to destroy block y" shpiel that most other games pull.  Xtreme2 took a very successful approach, staying as close as possible to the classic formula by shipping the items off to a shop; all the benefits without changing the gameplay focus.  X7 would have actually made a nicely replayable game with its New Game Plus chip stacking, if not for the fact that Capcom utterly failed at trying to blend 2D and 3D perspectives (X's whining doesn't help any, either).

X8 owes much of its success to picking the best out of the previous formulas.  X7's New Game Plus, Xtreme2's shop/enemy currency, and X6's stage-hidden chips (New Metals) all make their return in some fashion.  In addition the X5/X6 double armor layout was revisited and merged with the "equip immediately" joy of the classic games, adding a new mix-and-match aspect.  But at the end of the day, it's still a new layout, so it doesn't quite "feel" like a classic X game (although creating a New Game Plus with all chips and no armor parts can help rectify that).

Of course, all sprite style since SNES have worked on the same limitation. The only difference is the amount of crap that can be on screen, the screen size and the use of prerendered images.
And framerate.  You can see a drop between MM8 and MM&B, although the fact that Mets don't walk as smoothly wasn't exactly a huge loss.

All in all, it'd give the feel of a SNES game, but the look of a PSX game
I'd just as soon use PS1 sprites and rewrite the physics, to tell you the truth.  But who am I kidding?  Unless it was an exact deliberate replication of some "classic" game style, sprite reuse on that level would probably get the game eaten alive by reviewers.

I really need to stop this habit of pinned-topic-neglect...

The term "Elder System" exist in neither the Japanese nor the English version.

In the English version, the bits referencing the Elders are spoken and do not exist in text.  Whether Sera refers to their system as "Elder System", "Elder's System", or "Elder's system" cannot be clearly distinguished.

The fact that Yuna doesn't refer to it in such strict terms means very little, given that the Master System is also informally referred to as simply "the System" by her, Sera, Gatz, and the Master.

Incidentally, this same uncertainty exists with the systems of Elysium and Terra when Yuna speaks of them after the battle with Geetz.

Anyone can play a decent [i.e. average] Marth. It takes a certain type of crazy to try and play a stellar match in these matches. :P
Tell me about it.  As much tail as I kicked that night Peach was no match for your Marth.  But then I've always said she's more my comic relief than a proper alternate (I just love that dance too much).

To be honest I kinda regard Toon Link as the new Marth.  The range/speed/priority combination on that kid is positively broken.  Many times my ass got handed back to me at the hands of PB and that brat. :P

the 2 Marths & a Yoshi battles on Yoshi's Island Melee
It's good to be crazy. 8)  I gotta start leaving the infinite Replay code on again.  Just hate the fact that the Wii seems more prone to lockups when I do.

I agree with you on that. I didn't like most of their remixes either, but there is a chance of this project having better remixes then the AST
Something I hadn't thought of is the reason many OCRs tend to blow, especially recent ones.  And really, it's because the OCR community generally maintains the same attitude as was taken with the RM9 AST, which is they think that staying too faithful to the original is some kind of sin.  And believe me, I'm not fond of their "quality control" either.  Nobody who rejects Darkesword's Beamsabre Beat can be trusted in my book.

But the fact that they're doing a remix project for a game which already has an album of the same approach leaves some possible glimmer of hope.  Maybe they'll actually do something that shows better respect to the atmosphere of the originals for a change, since it's the only way they can actually be unique this time.  I guess we'll see.

I'd do the same.  Much as I'd like an X9, I do not consider the SNES the pinnacle of X-series design.  X4 and Xtreme2 stand every bit as well as the classics, whereas X3 I consider a decidedly below-average game.  Unlike an NES-style Classic game, which handled decidedly differently than any other MegaMan, there is nothing unique about the SNES-style X-series games besides buster SFX and the fact that double-charges use both arms.  The sprite style is flawed, it doesn't allow adequate detail to player-sized character bodies.  The SNES is capable of better, and I'm not keen on returning to a style that can't even display Zero's armor properly.  The level of "charm" afforded by the game style is no greater than a current ZX game, and the same can be said of the general feel and physics.

If X9 does go 2D, which I would by no means object to, there's no reason it can't do so in its own style.

I'd have to respectfully disagree with that.  I think The Dark Knight's depiction of the Joker outright sucked, and that says to me that Nolan can't merge humerous/light-hearted elements into an otherwise serious story/character.  With the possible exception of the X-series, that's not a trait you'd want in a MegaMan movie.

There's no substitute for passion for the project, so I don't think Eddie Lebron should be overlooked.  But he's also unproven, so I don't consider him the holy grail either.  If I had to pick somebody well-established, it'd be Rob Cohen.

why charge a shot for much longer than it takes to just fire 3 P-Shooters?
If only Inticreates had asked themselves that when making MM9...  *sighs*

Yes, a Mega Buster that's 5x the power of a regular shot is a little overpowered.  With that much power, the average Robot Master would go down in five hits!  X(
Try 7.

I've not checked Classic-series charged shot damage.  But in the X-series a charged shot is 4x normal on stage enemies, with a different formula applying to their effects on bosses. (2hp off a boss; X2's double-charge breaks the damage barrier for an extra 1hp per spiral shot segment).

Zero/ZX typically do 6x, Grey does 5x and Ashe does 4x.

Scream, possibly? Curse the money I've spent? 'Cause, really, why pay for, say, SMB3 on the Wii when you can have SMB3 for your DS and take it with you anywhere?
Welcome to my world upon deciding that I liked Four Swords (when I can coax my brother into playing, anyway).

The reason I bought SMB1 on VC, although to be honest "big" relative to the GBC screen is enough of a difference for it to be worth it.

Still wish they could have kept the later Luigi colors, though...
