>_>

I didn't pick it. I picked Luigi's Mansion.
Well, I picked Yoshi's Island, so either one of us is hallucinating or Nintendo has a sick sense of humor.

Maybe, but the second was umpteen times worse (I guess input lag always feels worse when you're playing as Sonic).  Here's hoping somebody else has better luck before I crash.

*sighs*  I miss my Mewtwo...  Been playing Melee on the GCN downstairs.  The AI is a moron and grabbing items feels like a chore, but Shadow Ball screwing a giant never gets old.

'maru, I *WILL* kill you if you choose Final Destination again.  I don't even care if I won.  Nine times out of [tornado fang]ing ten the Random people are addicted to that mockery of a stage.

And Smashville is SO much better...

I guess I should be thankful my girl at least dipped her toes in Subspace Emissary...

Well, the room's open now, if anyone feels like getting slurp-n-burped.

The rescue option was never taken out. It was introduced in Fire Emblem 5. Leaf's story. So, no, it's no traditional and it wasn't in FE 1-4 to begin with.
He said it was "left" out, not that it was "taken" out.  The game may be a remake but, as I mentioned earlier, it is remade in gameplay as much as it is visually.  It does include various now-standard aspects that were not a part of FE1.  Nothing wrong with being bummed that one such option was not added.

Incidentally, unused data shows that it was at some point planned to have a dismount option.  Maybe they figured the reclass option made it a little redundant?  Although since there's no such thing as a playable Soldier, you'll lose Lances that way.

Anybody want a match tonight?  I foresee no other interruptions.  I'll be online for a while.

I know that it's a remake of FE1, and I am not really sure if this option was available back then, but did Intelligent Systems really had to leave the rescue option out? I mean, when I think of Fire Emblem, rescuing your allies is one of the traditional tactics.
I noticed that too, and it's very frustrating when a flying unit slips your eye and you need to get your Mages/Clerics/Curates the hell outta there.

Speaking of which, leveling Mages is a pain in the ass.  Merric and Linde start at Level 1, they suck at the Arena, they move slowly, and class-swapping them to Cleric/Curate hampers their Magic growth.

All of these are probably just indications of how old the original game is, but with the renewed presentation you'd kinda expect them to touch things up a bit (they did add the weapon triangle, movement range, and other such things).  Unfortunately this shows just as well in the script; recruited characters near always do absolutely nothing after they've been recruited.  No base events, no support.  You can see the difference during the Prologue, at least then Marth actually talks to his crew.

I guess that's why it's easy to hate this game's units.  You have the chapter they're recruited in and their mugshot, and that's about it.  There's no character development.

Difficulty should go up when playing Hard Mode
Oh yes, it does.  Frey and Norne are exclusive to Normal, though, which is why I was kinda bummed at Frey dying (Norne turned out better than Gordin anyway, despite what the GameFAQs guides say).

Oh yeah, and I'm not using Wolf because, no matter how broken his growths are, Castor will kick his butt as soon as he gets a Master Seal.  Leveling him up was easy since the Arena seems to underestimate him.  Julian and Marth cruised through it as well.

I'd hurl at the pic, except there's nothing left in my stomach since seeing it at MMN.

Can you imagine a true blue, cooperative Rockman game? I think we're long overdue.
Yes, and damn straight! 8)

Whipping some tail in Random Team.  But I'll tell ya, I'm starting to hate two things.  One is ROB, the other is Final Destination.

Oh well.  I did manage to intercept that sack of wires while he was edge-playing. 8)

The fact that there are so many doesn't make it impossible.  It just means they have to pick one.

Nothing since the NES does vertical screen transitions, so that's only applicable in the context of a WiiWare MM10 or something.  Even so, it'd still be manageable.  If worst came to worst and two guys on a ladder was deemed too clunky, suggestive, or whatever, then Beat could always carry the second player.  Something like that would probably be needed for a downward vertical transition anyway.

Who here remembers Toejam & Earl?  Remember how the elevator only worked with both characters (unless you fell to a lower level than the other player)?  Remember how you start single-screen but the game would split-screen when you separated, and re-merge itself when you joined up again?

If game-devs could do all of that on the Genesis seventeen years ago, they can DAMN WELL make two guys walk through a door today.

Oh yeah, and I thought of yet another co-op side-scroller to get equipped with: Ren & Stimpy Time Warp (SNES).

Not surprising, as Nintendo has gotten more and more aggressive lately.  Recall from the NES days that they'd ban the freaking Game Genie if they could, so the R4 is a no-brainer.

Well, for those of us not on board for the DSi, there's always Datel's Games n Music.  Of course,
there
are reasons one might want commercial game compatibility.  But I guess sometimes you just can't have it all.

no items
Tourneyfag.

In what way is in-game item collection somehow less valid than a cheat code?

Any armor is subject to the context in which it is presented, and how their abilities mesh with others that are simultaneously available is every bit as valid as their standalone aspects.  Power-Up Parts fall under that as much as Heart Tanks, Special Weapons, and damage barrier physics do.  By the same logic you could say the ability to use/charge special weapons is negligible, since they are unrelated power-ups.

Incidentally, analyzing both armors STRICTLY on their stand-alone merits, the Shadow Armor gets further through Gate's Lab than Ultimate does.  Ultimate on its own can only clear the first tier of the spike wall, beyond that it needs either Jumper or Ice Burst.  No character/armor can clear Gate's Lab unassisted.  Unarmored, Ultimate, and Falcon are stopped at the spike wall, Shadow is stopped at the acid rain pit, and Blade and Zero are stopped by High Max.

And what exactly is the saber NOT effective against, anyway?  There are enemies which require the saber, but there are no enemies which require the buster.  And let's not forget that an opposing buster cannot penetrate Shadow's saber wave (try it on Nightmare Zero).

i wouldn't like those options because the 2nd player takes a lesser role in the gameplay than P1. in Contra, on the other hand, all players are treated equal.
In Smash the second player is just as key to the gameplay (barring the occasional forced color-change of the same character).  They take damage, their lives detract from the same stock.  The teleport option is only there so that leaving the screen due to 1st player movement doesn't mean death.

I agree with the whole handheld shpiel, though.  But ideally, I don't want to see a co-op feature vetoed on the sole grounds of whether or not a game is a console title.  The X-series is perhaps one of the best suited for co-op, and the only time it goes to handheld is for side games.

Something that's grating my nerves is how that Chapter 4 Arena just FREAKING TAUNTS YOU.  It so begs to be camped.  I sank all my money into Heal staves and spent over 400 turns there.  Marth, Caeda, Lena, Julian, Norne, and Castor are all at Level 20, Gordin is at 14, and I have over 120,000 gold.

An inopportune miss later, Barst is dead. >_<  Frey soon after.  Needless to say, resetting isn't something I'd enjoy at this point.  Guess I'll be going for the side-quest chapters on my first run after all.

You're still further away than if you were attacking as Zero.  While Ultimate delivers a welcome relief in its strong charged shot, Shadow dispenses of enemies much faster.  Overdrive and Giga Attack cause bosses a lot of pain.  Hell, you don't even have to move to beat Sigma's first form (same is true with Zero's Z-Buster).

And oh, the mobility...  There is no reason you cannot clear X6 UNARMORED, much less with Shadow Armor.  Hovering is no more valuable than ceiling-hanging.  Get equipped with Hyper Dash, and quit whining.

I would imagine something similar to Contra for a MegaMan Co-Op, but I'd be interested none the less. Though, I dread the parts of stages that require precision and timing... That would be terrible for 2 people to synchronize to be able to proceed.
Not that Contra-style wouldn't suffice, but I suppose I'm the ONLY person who's played Brawl's adventure mode in 2-player?  Then there's always the Sonic/Tails style, which could useful for introducing a n00b friend.

Not to mention the whole thing would be a nonissue on a handheld (ZX, Xtreme3).  Something akin to New Super Mario Bros. versus mode, except you know, not versus, would be awesome.

The only problem would be actual traversing of the stages. I can't even think of a good example of a platforming co-op game.
Besides all of the above-mentioned, get equipped with Joe & Mac (SNES).

Excitebots™: Trick Racing - I...don't think they're going to be topping Excite Truck, given Nintendo's track record with recent racing franchises.  It will certainly fail if it does not read soundtracks off the SD card.

Punch-Out!! is as always orgasmic.

Having missed out on Mario Power Tennis, but loved the N64 original, I'll probably be checking that New Play Control.

The Conduit fascinates me simply for being one of the few non-lazy Wii development efforts.  But FPSes aren't really my bag, so when I go into new territory I'll be backtracking to Deadly Creatures first.

I lot of WTFs on that list.  DDR: Disney Grooves is probably the biggest one.  M&Ms and Pennzoil just leave me asking why...

Kotaku needs to learn how to count.  There are no more shoulder buttons on this thing than on the original Classic controller, they're just larger.  So the only real difference is hand grips.

No rumble = failure.  And who gives a rat's ass how far apart the sticks are from each other?  I'm more concerned with how far away they are from the BUTTONS, so I can stop flipping the right stick by accident whenever some intense retro action is going on.  Since this looks to be about the same, the change in stick spacing is therefore pointless.
