Gaming / Re: Videogame Player's Club. List your Top 10
« on: April 19, 2009, 05:06:43 AM »
Princess Daisy whom also seemed like a one-timer but started resurfacing in party games.
Daisy is Luigi's squeeze.

Anyways, I guess I can take a shot at a list of my own.  Dunno if I can hit 10 or not, though.

Godzilla
You'd be surprised, but even a 50/80/100 meter tall mutant engine of destruction can get a lot of attention from the ladies.  He certainly spars with Mothra, mother of two, often enough.  And then there's Biollante, although that's somewhat incestuous.  Nevertheless, a heat ray down the throat sure knocked her scales off.  Both his girls got to dance with him in Godzilla Unleashed on the Wii.

Yoshi
You might not think on the surface that Yoshi puts a lot of effort into this.  But if he can tell a male Birdo from a female Birdo (we all hope; it's in Camelot's hands) then that pretty much puts him ahead of the entire human race so far as attention to detail goes.  You can't tell me he was born like that, the little green guy has to have a few secret romps in his catalogue.  I'm sure of it.

Ike - Fire Emblem Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn
Marcia flirts with him, Mia can't get enough of sparring with him, and Aimee would probably nail him with a bear trap if necessary.  Then of course there's Elincia.  For somebody who has shown no romantic interests whatsoever, Ike has quite a following

Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney
Women of the Fey bloodline pretty much fall into the guy's lap, whether he wants them or not.  No amount of Objections will stop that.

Sonic The Hedgehog
Amy pursues him relentlessly and he's adventured with other gals, not the least of which is Blaze (the only character outside of male hedgehogs to use emerald power in the newer games).  He has quite a few other alternates outside of the gaming continuity as well, some of which made a cameo in Sonic Spinball (my personal vote goes to Sally).

MegaMan X
Alia may have been married to her work in X5, but from X6 on she seems to have her eyes on X quite a bit (one more in a long list of reasons I'm glad the series didn't end there).  X even got a little flirting on the battlefield from Berkana.  Then there's Nana competing for his attention next century.  Despite this X isn't going to get any action unless he's blitzed, seeings how he's so hopelessly oblivious.

MegaMan Trigger
His adopted family (but not REALLY sister) Roll, and a pirate girl.  Oh yeah, and the 2nd in command of paradise showed up naked even though there wasn't anything going on there (that we know...).  Boy, he can sure pick 'em.  As fun as it is to peek at someone who can slap you to death while they're changing/bathing, I think blowing their clothes off in a robot fight is much hotter.

Link
Four or five (wondering what "reward" Nabooru had in mind earlier...) girls drooling over him in OoT, 'nuff said.

Zero
Zero may not have matched Link's track record in a single game, but for a series with comparatively less emphasis on story and little dialogue between non-combatants, Zero's held up pretty darn well.  Nailing 4 or more ladies (minimum: Iris, Layer, Ciel, and anonymous resistance chick) in a series of sidescrollers is pretty darn impressive.

Princess Peach
Who says the player has to be a man?  Seriously, how many guys has Peach been cockteasing?  Mario, Booster, and HIGH TECHNICAAAL chameleons are only the tip of the iceberg.  She keeps Yoshi satisfied despite making him sleep on the roof.  And of course, her biggest victim is the big man himself, Bowser.  There's something to be said for having a giant snapper turtle who rules over every other creature in the world wrapped around your finger.  Too bad the poor guy usually winds up getting dunked in lava whenever he gets turned on.

Well, let's attempt YET ANOTHER revival.  I have a room online this very second.  I'll try to keep it up until midnight or so.

Come on, folks, I need some practice.  I need to be prepped in order to bust some heads at Dimondsoft. :P

EDITS: And Jelly's getting a nice taste of SUPER DRAGON POWER!!! 8)

They don't, but you can "rest" (though you may NOT sleep in the Princess's bed) for free in the Princess's room during the attack.

Man, I'm out of shape, and I'd kill for a Friends match.  I'm up against the Lucario from Hell in Random.

And I am REALLY, REALLY hating the fact that Random is locked into Time mode.

Just that -- if you can time Mallow's Thunderbolt magic correctly, you can one-hit-kill all the Shysters that come up with Mack in the boss battle. Although sometimes it's not as preferable, 'cause when he's alone Mack likes to throw the Fire Wall attack on you.
Actually I meant the ones constantly pouring out the castle/throne room.  Before you fight Mack.

Well, I'm online now, if anyone's up for a late Brawl.

X / Re: Has anyone ever noticed in X4...
« on: April 17, 2009, 09:05:34 PM »
Might have made sense if it wasn't used in the previous game.  But the W symbols, Shadow Devil, and Wily's name in the opening movie pretty much get the job done anyway.

Zan beats me to the punch again, but yeah, skull symbols are in X4 as well.  I know Egrerion (or however the hell you spell his name) uses one, minibosses as well.

I kinda hated how in X5 most of the bosses are not really Maverick but just feel like fighting you to the death for the hell of it.  Of course, there's so much else about X5 that despises me that it's usually overshadowed.  But yeah, given that, going for a more generic symbol makes sense.

Then there's Gate's head gem in X6, which was nifty.

As I said, I'll gladly fight you all. But don't expect too much from me. I'm not just new to Brawl, but to the whole Smash Bros. series.
I never object to cannon-fodder as long as there are plenty of explosions. :P

That and I'm always up for a multi-man co-op.  I still never got a good Yoshi/Peach team video, been meaning to harass ask PB to help out for that.

Registered you just now, Acid (I'm in the Wi-Fi thread same as everyone else).

then i'm keeping Peach in Weegee's clothes.
Crap, you beat me to it.  Peach in overalls armed with a pile of bombs is just too freaking awesome.

Oh well, I'll always have the TV show's baby Yoshi hug. 8)

Nintendo needs a black/black influenced character already. I say do it. XD
After the trouble that Jynx got them into, I don't think that's going to happen.

Personally, I'd have likened her original skin color more to frostbite than to race, but whatever.

Well, back on the original topic, I've got another one:

Rhythm-Impaired Gamer.  People who jump in Godzilla Unleashed when they were trying to grab a building.  Honestly, folks, if you can't shake the remote and nunchuck at the same time, train yourself on Raving Rabbids before you even TOUCH any other motion-control game, because that's just pitiful.  Yes, "professional reviewers", I'm talking to you.

I gather you hadn't heard of the Star trick?  SMRPG is probably the easiest game on the face of the Earth to grind, due to not having to actually battle in order to gain experience.

Even disregarding that, having Mallow Thunderbolt the never-ending Shysters to death before Mack is pretty simple.

Huh, I may have to update this one seeings how I don't often think of my own gaming terms.  But I have a few:

General gaming:
Sharking - Hacking into a game using an Action Replay, other such "game enhancers", or save editors.

Shark-bait - Games which are EXTREMELY tempting to hack on account of certain items, tactics, or unlock requirements being insane/unrealistic/excessively meaningless time-killing.
(click to show/hide)

Rhythm Impaired Gamer - People who jump in Godzilla Unleashed when they were trying to grab a building.  Honestly, folks, if you can't shake the remote and nunchuck at the same time, train yourself on Raving Rabbids before you even TOUCH any other motion-control game, because that's just pitiful.  Yes, "professional reviewers", I'm talking to you.

'man, plural: 'mans - Pokemon, derived from that "Let me show you" meme.

Dragonite power! - My typical Pokemon battle cry, testament to my favorite 'man, who I absolutely refuse to build a team without.

Barfos - Those SMB3/NSMBWii critters that hock up a spiked ball before throwing it at you.

Pogo-Stick Cyclops - Big Eye (MM1).  I refuse to dignify that monstrosity by using its proper name.

Mega Man X: The Lost Levels - Fastest way for me to summarize Mega Man X6 (and a good way to get an idea of whether you will or will not enjoy it).  X6 and SMB2(J) are highly comparable in terms of their presentation, their use of old resources, their lack of involvement from their respective figurehead series developer, their difficulty, their fairness, and their general uniqueness compared to other games of the series.  Had X6 been withheld from the U.S. on the grounds of being too difficult, I'm sure more people would have loved it.

As useless as Bubble Man - One who suffers an incredibly stupid and/or embarrassing death/loss, to the point where they clearly posed no threat to their opponent whatsoever.  May refer either to myself or others, but especially to easy boss fights, ie: Spark Mandrill.
(thank Duane and Brando for that one)

The collapse of Mario Kart 7 society - Maka Wuhu.

Glug! Glug! Glug! Glug! Glug! Glug! - You know that fingery thing that they do in the Super Mario Bros. movie?  Victory celebration for my brother and me whenever we destroy the Death Star in Star Wars Rebel Strike.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl specific:
-Yoshi's Final Smash absolutely requires yelling, "SUPER DRAGON POWER!"
"Failure To Land Fish Screwed" - What happens to Akamaru when he attempts to charge an Aura Sphere at the edge of The Summit while I'm jumping around, and the single reason above all else that I wish my "?! I still hungry!" taunt would show up on Replays.
Stress Relief - Bob-ombs only, Very High items, 99 Stock, 300% damage.
Terrain-Impaired Brawler -  People who, because they constantly whore Final Destination, get utterly dismantled in Yoshi's Island Melee, even without items, due to their complete inability to fight on a slope.  Core skills my ass.

Melee Peach's Grab+Forward at over 100% damage = B.Slap of Doom
Gotta object to that one.  The true Bitchslap of Doom is Daisy vs. Bowser in Mario Party 3.

Point taken, which is probably why grinding Shadow Dragon on Normal was tolerable.

But if there is one thing worse than having to fight 100 battles for a level-up, it's having to run away from 10, and heal the 2/3 or so health you lost every battle anyway, for every victory.  Hard mode's Arena is borderline pointless.  Merric got one-rounded before I could even forfeit, for crying out loud.

X / Re: Has anyone ever noticed in X4...
« on: April 17, 2009, 04:13:49 AM »
Relating to the original topic, I'd taken notice of how the life bar symbols separate the "true" Mavericks from the Repliforce coup.  I kinda liked that touch, the fact that the game didn't focus solely on that but took a moment to address other threats, so it's not as if the rest of the world came to a halt.

DASH / Re: What am I missing out on?
« on: April 17, 2009, 04:07:40 AM »
What very little of L1's plot that is relevant to L2 is reiterated within L2.  So no, you shouldn't be confused.  You're only missing on how some of the characters met (and really, you're missing just as much in that area by not playing Misadventures, since Glyde isn't in L1).

If anything I've actually found more L1 moments that make no sense without L2 than vice-versa.  The two bits of Trigger bringing up Roll's parents during Mother Lode conversation are weird, given that L1 doesn't offer any explanation as to how the two are linked.

Gaming / Re: Rockman to be added to Brawl by hacking?!
« on: April 17, 2009, 03:52:48 AM »
I could swear I heard one time that much of Mewtwo's data was left in Brawl. All I've seen from clicking links in the topic is recolored Lucarios. Isn't there an actual Mewtwo skin?
Unused data found in Brawl is generally not salvageable (the "beta block" for Stage Builder being a notable exception).  What they're finding is not so much actual content but rather references to it.  So, looking at it, they can see that at some point Mewtwo was in there with a versus screen and a sound clip or two.  But none of that's actually in there, it's just part of some list.  So they can't actually rip it, much less use it.

Believe me, I would religiously stash, view, and daydream over any Brawl Mewtwo content/images/sound clips if it were out there.  And yeah, the recolored Lucarios are revolting.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon.  Arena.  5-Star Hard Mode.   EEEEEEVIIIIIIL!!!!

Yeah, camping for experience generally blows.  Not always, but usually.

And PB's mention of chores and getting older basically took the words out of my mouth.  He's spot-on for both points.  Pokemon is especially severe, because for any non-hacker the amount of time that goes into an "ideal" competitive team build is positively ludicrous.  Make one mistake, and it was all for nothing.

DAMMIT!  Missed the thread revival by four hours. >_<

Well, Acid, I'll be sure and register you the next time I turn Brawl on, and HOPEFULLY I can play tomorrow evening.  That's a big if, though, since my fiance (who I have to drag kicking and screaming to SSE; needless to say she's not touching online) doesn't work this Saturday and thus I don't know how long she intends to stay tomorrow night.

Im hoping Donny doesn't do that "Hit me first" Bullshit that got me stuck on him on the NES version from being too tired...
My issue is when you hit him and he doesn't counter-punch, sucks too much time.  To get around that I block his punches instead of dodging, that way at least if you're tired, you know he'll attack, and you can whack him back when your hearts are restored.

3922
Mario Finale can be pretty damn evil if you trap someone with it, the problem is that's very difficult to do due to its long lag time (not to mention the fact that everyone and their dog whores Final Destination on random Wifi).

If anything Giga Bowser was the Final Smash I was disappointed with.  It really is too short and your attacks could stand to be much stronger.  And it's not like Bowser couldn't have used a better power boost, either, seeings how his speed and size make him a pain to use.

Been a while since I got some Smashing practice in.  Anyone here up for a match around 11-ish, EDT?  (5 hours from time of posting)

I'll check online when I get home tonight.

3925
The absence of Super Sonic is only true of platformers, though (see Sonic Riders).  And actually Brawl doesn't even change that, given that Smash Balls don't appear in SSE (SAKURAAAAAI!!!).

Likewise, Starman is not really comparable to Super Sonic.  It's a generic short-term invulnerability, and one which Smash already included anyway.  That'd have been like giving Sonic the star item box.  Super Sonic is not merely a status change but an alternate form, able to be maintained indefinitely depending on rings, and allowing flight when gameplay permits (hovering and large jumps when it does not).
