X / Re: What would improve Rockman X7.

Fix the dashing triangular kick.
Long as we're talking about 3D mode tweaks, wall-kicking should stay as close to the wall as possible, not unlike what MMZ did.  I can't imagine any way that the more traditional "arc" and direction changes of the SNES/PS1 movement could possibly not feel awkward in 3D.

The game does need to commit to either 2D or 3D, and rethink its mechanics and weapons to whichever mode it chooses, that much is for certain.  And it's ESPECIALLY true of Zero's attacks, many of which wind up paper-thin when used in the "wrong" gameplay mode.

I'd actually like to see X7 go the full 3D route.  Not only because 3D X is intriguing and all, but because the only 2D segment in the entire game worth a damn is Stonekong's level.

Movement speed should be faster.

Axl needs some unique special weapons.  The reason you have to "unlock" X (which is unavoidable and carries over into New Game Plus, BTW, so I don't know why everyone bitches about it so much) is because he basically renders Axl obsolete, unless you're a fan of the G-Launcher.  That being said, since X is guaranteed part of the crew by the time you face Red, there's no real reason for the post-battle cutscene to exclude him.  Altering the in-between-Mavericks scenes to differentiate between whether or not X has joined you would help a lot too.  As it stands, X7 is Axl's and Zero's game, but it's more the dialogue than it is the gameplay that establishes such.

*Make X THE MAIN CHARACTER, i cannot believe how they got that wrong.
...
*Make X less overpowered.
......

Am I the only one who thinks that a likeable character being wonderfully overpowered is a GOOD thing?

Cleared Transformers Fall of Cybertron about a week ago.  Great to see Grimlock, but needed more of him.

After that fun little diversion, resumed and beat Project X Zone.  And...there's New Game Plus.  Yeah, given that there were five DLC chapters in Fire Emblem that I never cleared when I started that one, I'd say my "turn based" fix is solidly established for a loooong time.  Sorry, Shin Megami.

Why is it that MegaMewtwo is the only one that looks hideous?  I mean, all of the others follow the badass flowing hair theme, otherwise looking pretty well faithful to their originals.

Ah well, "Mega" form being temporary means there is a damn good shot of classic Mewtwo returning for Smash.  I'll take it.

...now I just need to find out if there's a MegaDragonite.  >.>

btw pilotwings stage

The fact that these four and their wonderful expressions/comments were not in any sequels is probably the single biggest problem with Pilotwings sequels.

God willing Smash Bros. will fix that.

I'm sure the actual boxart will be nondescript.  Whether or not the WiiU "takes off" enough for Bayonette 2 to [acid burst] off the soccer mom crowd by the time its out?  That'll be interesting to see.

Well, I linked the "backlash with a physical copy" discussion above, and yeah, it's many months old.

I'm sure many a fan might prefer a digital copy due to being more discrete, being able to hide their pervy game in a folder away from the front screen and all, no incriminating boxes. -u-'

'course, the game being rated at merely Teen surprises me too.

It showed absolutely zero gameplay. That's poorly made to me, announcement or not.
I...really want to argue with that in defense of the game and all, but I can't.  It IS a lousy trailer.  Even if they're mainly concerned about existing fans, the fact that they made it out of in-game cutscenes without showing any actual gameplay means that your rare newcomer won't know this game from a dating sim.

I think it may be our faulty assumption that the event of Zero saving Iris' life happened during X4.
A No-Prize worthy leap of speculation.  I guess we gotta have Iris in another prequel game now, right?  I can't argue with that. 8)

Quote
Identifying her as "Colonel's sister" is more personal than "one of our navigators." Also, that line was clearly phrased using Colonel's name in order to clarify Zero's past transgressions.
Perhaps, but it's still a sloppy way to go about it.  The fact that Zero defeated Colonel (let alone that Iris's grief over that is what drove her into battle) is referenced only in the Crosspedia and not in the game's dialogue, so I don't think that was really necessary.  The significance of mentioning Colonel by name is lost on anyone who doesn't already know who Iris's brother is.

As it is, the scene reads as X twisting a knife in Zero's heart out of ignorance, and I don't think that X is that dense.  But it is a pretty nitpicky complaint considering how much research the guys behind this game did.

Perchance, do you know which chapter involves the infamous "rocket"?
Chapter 3, opening.

Quote
How does it clash with MMX:OCW? I don't believe those sources are really as "old" and "outdated" as you say. In other words: both should be true, at the same time.

-X and Zero meet Iris during the Erasure Incident.
-Iris and Zero dated afterward.
-She falls in love with Zero because of the Sky Lagoon Incident.
The timing of Iris falling for Zero because of his saving her at Sky Lagoon was a popular assumption based on SB20's translations that merely mentioned the two in the same sentence, without explicitly stating a cause/effect relationship between the two.  In itself, this is a bit suspect with the flashbacks in X4's ending, and it further clashes with Sensei's statements in MMX:OCW page 46, which alleges that she and Zero are supposed to be on a date in the X1-6 OST art.

The line I was referring to, though, is on Page 90.  It states that Iris's feelings for Zero developed during Xtreme2 and not during X4.

"IRIS
Colonel's little sister.  During the Repliforce War, Iris is saved by Zero, who she developed feelings for during the Erasure incidents.  Iris does everything she can to stop the fighting between her brother and Zero.
"

The fact that Iris served as both X's and Zero's navigator during the Erasure would mean that X should know her more as his own navigator than as "Colonel's sister."  That line implies that X is more familiar with Colonel than he is with Iris, which really shouldn't be the case (doubly so if we're operating under the popular assumption that Zero gets most of the fight time with Colonel in X4).

I want to beat the game first, but I do still have a Chapter 29 quicksave, and I do intend to revisit.  All of your observations on enemy names/appearances are correct, as I recall.  There's also Ride Armor (green) and Ride Armor (red) as well.

BTW, as an update/confirmation to our Japanese lexicons: "Genmu Zero" isn't just a localization thing.  Zero's japanese VA clearly yells that, and not "Genmurei".

Someone should transcribe those sections.
It is time.  Ask, and ye shall be equipped!

Spoiler'd below is a transcription of all of Chapter 29.  Just to remind everyone of a few things:
-The dialogue reveals certain enemies who are no longer enemies at a later point, as well as some vague plot points, so it actually IS spoiler-ific.
-Zero quotes X4 verbatim a few times, so brace yourself.  Also, Xtreme2/Soul Eraser doesn't seem to exist in this game's canon; its data files give the old outdated description of Iris falling for Zero after he saved her life, which clashes with MMX:OCW.  X also doesn't appear to know Iris that well.
-I'll not waste time bothering to explain EVERY character who speaks in this transcription, but you should probably be aware that Neneko and Neito share the same body.

DASH / Re: If Capcom outsources the next Legends game...
« on: August 04, 2013, 04:27:47 AM »
Well, since the thread was bumped...

Platinum Games would be awesome.  As would Monolith.  Way back when, I voted Cyber Connect 2, 'cuz Solatorobo was so frikkin' awesome.  That and the fact that they've made it clear they actually WANT to do it.  No substitute for passion, IMHO.

However, the truly most orgasmically awesome way for it to go, IMHO, is to have Sora Ltd. on Legends.

Comcept would be acceptable.  But, in all honesty, for as wise as Inafune's criticisms of the Japanese game industry were, he himself slipped up quite a bit during that time as well (granted, that may just be a symptom of why he left Capcom in the first place, but still).  Also, I can't shake the feeling that bringing Comcept to the table essentially is conceding that L3 will not happen for another two console generations, since that's likely at least how long Capcom will hold their grudge against Inafune.

One that seems to be a popular mention but that I personally don't agree with is WayForward.  Their games, while fun, tend to be on the shallow side, and when given an existing IP to work with they tend to completely miss a lot of the more subtle design elements (IE: Contra 4, awesome presentation but really cheap with the point-blank enemy spawns).

Yesterday I got the prelude to Blackout.

Very...emotional.  As they already demonstrated during Spiritus Ex Machina, Archie definitely has the hang of the whole "just because you're writing a comic that includes children in the audience doesn't mean you have to patronize them" thing.  They nailed this issue, I'd say.

I'm with ya, Sub!  And you absolutely MUST be jumping on Chozo heads.

Seriously, this, in gameplay.  How could that not be awesome?  In no way whatsoever, that's how.

They'd probably just Other M the hell out of a story like that.
Okay, see, the rest of the world reads "Other M it" as "imply that watching your parents die at 3 years of age is traumatizing to a girl, and that's totally sexist against girls because boys would become Batman."  Whereas I read "Other M it" as "craft a pretty damn good if mildly confusing story which completely forgot around the final boss that it's a game story and not a movie story, and is thusly out of pace."

I have no idea whether or not either of those are what you meant.

Yeah, when I read that post it was Donkey Kong fighting Pikmin...  But I'd seen the KI screenshot before, and yeah, it looks awesome.  It'll be one hell of a letdown if Viridi DOESN'T show in some form now.

Also I guess Sakurai said no to an SSE style story mode since I guess he didn't want people to just leak the cutscenes out online, so the Adventure mode will be more like it was in Melee again.
That's actually fairly old news, that any FMV such as Mega Man's reveal will be available from the start and not be unlocked as part of the single player. (which Destructoid recently decided to repost recently under the misinterpretation that there would be no such videos of any kind)

I dunno, I actually liked SSE.  But I seem to be in the minority on that one.  Melee's adventure struck me as essentially an alternate Classic Mode that stretched out of its comfort zone.  I mean, the Mario and Zelda levels are the only ones that really felt "adventure"y.  Non-random enemies and a couple race-to-the-finish courses made it arguably more "Classic" than the actual Classic mode.  It just didn't have Master Hand is all.

But I will say this: The one thing I did miss from Melee's adventure was that Yoshi's egg lay was an instant-kill on stage enemies.

Well, actually, I was talking from the developer point of of view. I don't know if I want to publish any games on the Xbox One being an indie developer.
Somehow, this strikes me as relevant:

392
The title's a bit misleading then, isn't it?
Indeed it is.  I wrote no articles nor did I write this thread title, but this is NOT a repeat of the "official backing" that was Street Fighter X Mega Man.

So, just to reiterate for real what's going on:

Free game for digital distribution, TENTATIVELY scheduled for August release (these guys routinely give tight estimates, I would not be surprised in the least if it was delayed).  Developed by Japanese fans.  Demo is out, bugs out for those not on a Japanese system locale, but english users can get around it.  It is alleged that the final game will run for english users without the current hickups.

On board are Hideki Ishikawa (artist) and Makoto Tomozawa (composer); both former Capcom employees who have previously worked on the Legends series.

Donations are currently being taken through Paypal directly at milktea@milcoco.net , but a proper crowdfunding page is in progress if you prefer to wait.  Their goal is $1000.00

Small donations get your name in the credits (I've heard conflicting reports on this; some say donations of any amount, some say five bucks minimum).  The box with Ishikawa's art is a thank-you for donating $50 or more.  Additional gifts are being considered, but everything on the table is small stuff, not by any means intended to be justifiable purchases.

Apparently they backpedaled on their anti-indie policies as well just today.

Still not sure I want to jump into bed with them yet though, even if they're now allowing self publishing. It's a nice gesture for sure, especially with the promise that eventually all their consoles will be dev kits in some way. However, we know Microsoft never intended to do this to begin with so I have to wonder how supportive they actually are or if this promise will be followed through.
I wouldn't.  The fans bitched and Microsoft didn't care.  Microsoft got up and told the world that they are expected to give up their rights to packaged products simply because Microsoft says so, without offering any real benefit to the end user (as actual digital platforms on the PC do).  Microsoft is only backing down now because the collective might of their competition and the news media forced their hand.  The moment the rest of the world stops breathing down their neck, what stops them from pulling this crap again?

Not that Sony and Nintendo don't have their own iron-fisted moments, but the sheer scope of the "FU" that Microsoft was preparing with the XBOne was unprecedented.  The practices they were putting into place were long held as questionable for even an individual game; to base an entire platform on that was ludicrous.

Also, in the original Japanese dub, Mewtwo wasn't "evil."  He was portrayed closer to that of a confused child and even had childlike mannerisms.  The English dub made him evil.
Huh.  I could tell there was a disconnect between Mewtwo's facial expressions and what was actually happening during that bit where Ash freed the original Pokemon in the first movie.  I just thought it was random.

Still, I like the dub's take on Mewtwo.  His "seriousness" is a nice contrast to an otherwise overly-light series, and it also works well for a movie in which you're supposed to be sad when somebody allegedly dies.

396
One artist (Hideki Ishikawa) and one composer (Makoto Tomozawa).  Truth be told, I don't know if their "status" with Capcom is current or former...  Ishikawa was part of the L3 Heroine design contest, though.

EDITS: The word is that these days they are considered freelancers.

True, you can, but if your directions at the title screen were too subtle, you have to listen to Alia bitching at you when you start a "wrong" level.

God, I hate that aspect of X5...

MM1: I can't argue with the "intent" of CutMan given that he flinches to the Mega Buster, but Guts Man is the far wiser choice.  Every attack can be seen a mile away and his ability is needed to nab the Magnet Beam.
MM2: Air Man.  Slow attacks and double damage from the Mega Buster lets you trade hits with him very easily, and he gives you Item 2.
MM3: Top Man is obviously intended (double damage from Mega Buster and ludicrously simple attack pattern), but I prefer to start with Needle Man.  His stage has an easy E-Tank to fall back on if needed, and Rush Jet is too awesome to start anywhere else.
MM8: Grenade Man.  Rush Bike is a small but useful crutch.
MM9: Splash Woman.  She's marginally easier than the others, and has a nice straightforward weapon.
MM10: Um...totally not Sheep Man? '>.>

X1: Yeah, can't argue with Chill Penguin.  Might be worth mentioning though that the entire rest of the armor comes at the end of the game if you follow the weakness order from there, so immediately after Chill I break and go to Sting Chameleon.  Body capsule is plenty to see me past him.
X2: Tough choice, but I'd say Wheel Gator.  His attacks are slow and his weapon is necessary to reach a number of secrets.
X3: Yeah yeah, Blizzard Buffalo, leg capsule...
X4 (X): Web Spider, ditto.
X4 (Zero): Magma Dragoon.  Besides the whole Ride Armor thing, Ryuenjin is a crazy powerful and useful weapon, necessary for a few Heart Tanks as well.
X5: As far as the "intended" order goes: You know its Grizzly, I know it's Grizzly, the Bat Bones crapping on Capcom's roof know it's Grizzly.
X6: I know the popular vote is Commander Yammark, but I MOST DEFINITELY must stand against it and say Blizzard Wolfang.  Easy boss whose weapon is invaluable when navigating the game's many tricky hazards, and is also key if you place higher priority on Shadow Armor than on Blade (and since we all know that Blade is crap anyway...).  He also has probably the least annoying Nightmare Effect.
X7: Despite the extra health of his Ride Armor, I'd say Vanishing Gungaroo.  His attacks are easy to evade and his weapon gives Axl some much-needed firepower.
X8: I've been New Game Plus-ing this one so long that I'm not really sure who's the best to tackle with limited health.  I guess one of the vehicle levels?
Xtreme2 (X): Neon Tiger.  As tempting as it is to tackle Catfish for the leg capsule first, he's an extremely annoying boss, and the Ray Claw will bring him to his knees (plus it's useful against Launch Octopus as well).
Xtreme2 (Zero): Objectively speaking, I'd say Tunnel Rhino.  Simple boss, crazy powerful weapon with unlimited use, and necessary to get the body upgrade.  But, I tend to go Blast Hornet just 'cuz I'm an Earth G. addict.  Truth be told, starting with anyone other than Wire Sponge really should be a safe bet.

Zero1: Maha Ganeshariff.  Weak to thunder, and you need to beat him before you get your extra weapons.
Zero2: ...I guess Hyleg for the loose Sub Tank.
Zero3: Childre Inarabitta.  Throw Blade is just too awesome not to.
Zero4: I don't think there's a clear winner in this one.  Maybe Pegasolta Eclair, since Ice Z-Knuckle weapons are easy to come by IIRC.  But I'd just as easily start with Heat Genblem or Noble Mandragoro.

ZX: Hivolt for Model H, obviously.
Advent: Not much of a choice, but I'd say Chronoforce, since his charge attack is so insanely broken...

No Ace Attorney game has even come close to M-rated. Even if this game is the darkest in the series, I highly doubt that rating is warranted. This has to be an exaggeration.
1st AA game on better-than-DS-hardware = more detail = the exact same content is viewed as less appropriate for the young.
