X / Re: The Z Buster
« on: July 21, 2009, 01:32:49 AM »
What happens when Black Zero uses it? Does the buster get stronger as well? <.<
No, however, the Z-Buster may be enhanced with the Buster Plus power-up part, the same as the X-Buster can.

Yet Ashe has it too.
Hence Grey re-using Model A's design.  If it was the other way around, Ashe wouldn't share the chest, as she doesn't share the red cords.

Zan has a sharper eye than I do on the chest details, although it is in line with Grey semi-reusing the feet.  Clearly based on but not identical.

Z Buster is pathetic.
In X5, this is true.  Although it is a safe-if-slow way of handling giant enemies (mutant taxi cabs in particular).  And it's fun to kick the crap out of Ultimate Armor X using only a laggy pea-shooter.

In X6, the Z-Buster rocks, for reasons I've already discussed.  Much faster, massive point-blank range damage on stage enemies, massive damage at any range on bosses.  The default Z-Buster handles Sigma's first form as quickly and easily as X's Overdrive, that's saying something.

Of course, that could just be the machine body doing its thing.
A valid explanation considering that Ashe sky-dives, it cutscene, without a parachute.

Zero / Re: About Omega

I think they count the "jump-in (slash)" as separate from the combo. The advice talks about how it can be avoided before the combo begins.
That's the only way one can make sense of it, I suppose, but I definitely do not agree with that logic.  The jump-in slash is as valid a part of the combo as any other, especially considering that dodging it has nothing to do with dodging the combo; because you'll never dodge it.  If you're not in range of the Ranbu, he won't slash, not even on the jump-in.

No "real" name for that, just dash attack or dash strike. His blocking didn't have one either, just referred to as block or guard. His buster shot was called the Zero Buster then, and a fully charged shot was dubbed "Hyper Zero Blaster" to match X's "Hyper X Blaster" shot. "Double Charge Wave" was introduced along with "Earth Crush." I think that's about it.
I assume you mean that the Double Charge Wave consists of two Hyper Zero Blasters?  Because there are only two types of Z-Buster shots in X2.

Indeed it was.  The wise-crack I made first-page was in reference to that.

Roll sold all of Trigger's equipment between games to pay for Flutter repair/upgrades.

Actually, it's MOSTLY Grey re-using Model A, rather than the other way around.  Chest and shoes are the same.  The only thing Model A takes from Grey is the red cords in the back.

As for how "ultimate" Albert compares to Model A, there's virtually no resemblance outside of the fact that they have striped leg/waist joints.  Meanwhile, the limbs of DAN-000 that do show (I'm mainly referring to the legs here) match up exactly with Albert's Ultimate MegaMan getup, merely palette-swapped.

Just like the others for some magical reason have the same chest armor as a random Giro Express uniform.
I'm seriously wondering if Giro didn't have some connection with Ciel, for that reason.  While the uniform matches, ZXA shows us that it's "not quite" a direct carry-over.  The vest stays in place and color-changes rather than being dissolved and re-made as Grey's chest/feet are.  But it also loses that new emblem that Vent/Aile added to their ZXA outfits.

Although, and I just noticed this, a similar shpiel goes on with Grey's feet.  They're not quite the same either.  Grey has bolts at the top of the toe end, Model A doesn't.

Nope, he's the same height.  He may look larger in the saber frames due to being edited from Zero's old attacks, though.

X6 UA does not have silver highlights, as seen in the mugshots, it's actually still gold.  Just a much paler gold.

Rockman Series / Re: Mega Man Graphics and Sprites
« on: July 20, 2009, 12:26:53 AM »
They could have if they were interested in sprite overlaps the way MegaMan did.  Nintendo evidently just didn't care to.

Part of that may have been unwillingness to push the NES's limit on number of moving objects on-screen, though.  If you go over the limit it causes flickering, which Nintendo may have been trying to avoid.  Might also explain why One-Up Mushrooms vanished if you had too many on-screen.

Oh, THAT Super Mario Brothers 2.  Yeah, that one's more of an extra level pack, not a true sequel.  And that shows why you need to change the graphics for everything every game: so you can tell them apart!  It's easier to remember when the character traded his red shoes for white shoes than to remember which game had the train level.  Even if the reference art never changes, you should keep tweaking the sprites to make them match the reference art better.
The tile set of SMB2J was switched, so actually it is quite easy to tell them apart (this doesn't show in All-Stars or Deluxe; download the original on Wii's VC to see what I mean).  The player sprites are still identical, though.

And yeah, SMB2U doesn't count.  Adding Mario to it was a U.S. thing, not to mention the sprite style simply wouldn't have worked.  It clashes too heavily.

I could accept an off-rails game if the controls were well done, but Command wasn't.  It was too simple, and if they want Star Fox to retain that simplicity, then yes, it needs to be on-rails.  Because when the whole game is off-rails, you expect more control than Command afforded.

At the same time, on or off rails, try to keep a decent level of speed.  Many, many times I played the Assault store demos trying to convince myself to buy it, and I just couldn't do it.  It's.  Too.  Damn.  Slow.  Same reason I hate Command's versus mode.

Seems so, although it's difficult to tell for sure, both due to how short the samples are, and the fact that the bystanders won't shut up during the clips. -_-

LoL, you mean to tell me that Air Dashing was better in the Xtreme games than X4-X7?
"Game" singular, Xtreme1 didn't air-dash.  And that is EXACTLY what I mean.

Default walking/dashing slashes started here.  You can one-two slash into infinity with the saber.  Cross-charge doesn't limit you nearly as much as X3.  Fastest and most seamless Scramble Change of the entire series.

On topic - I didn't see Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 up on that list.  I love that game.  It's just such a shame the online sucks so much.  Hopefully that's fixed with BT4.
I can only imagine.  I wasn't willing to pay fifty bucks for a yearly update, or at least not on DBZ.

From what I heard, the story might be.  The controls certainly are not.

X / Re: The Z Buster

But as you know it is named after his creator, Albert.
Topic officially derailed.

The name "Model Albert" comes from Albert's backup plan, that is the data within the ciphers, not the Biometal's identity or combat abilities.  Model A cannot contain Albert's consciousness if Albert's consciousness is still in his own body.  Model A bears no resemblance to Albert in either personality or abilities, with the sole exception of A-Trans (Homing Shot doesn't count; Albert only uses it in his final form, when he has abilities from all 6 of Ciel's Biometals).  Albert, probably due to lacking his own combat abilities, relies on either Model A or Model W to supply him with data for A-Trans.  Model A can acquire and copy data on its own.

There is every reason to believe that Albert considers the Biometal's consciousness to be irrelevant.  Look at what happened to the Small Four.  All have red-eyes, all override the wills of their respective Biometals with their own, as Model X mentions.  Grey, when awakening, briefly showed red eyes before they went green, and Pandora explains that Grey's mind control was incomplete.  Notice also there are four broken capsules in the room where Grey awakens.

For many obvious reasons, Model A is clearly designed after Axl.  Dual pistols, screen-wide rapid fire Giga Attack, copy ability, child-like personality, somewhat selfish/cowardice at first but becomes brave and a little trigger-happy when given an appropriate role-model to follow, obvious likeness to Axl's helmet in the Biometal fragment, less obvious but equally valid likeness in the armor.  Any of those may be dismissed if they were alone, but all together?

I hate to speak against Vix, but I have to object to NiGHTS up there.  I hated that game.  And the sad thing is, even though I never got to play the original, I could still see the potential of the core mechanics in Journey of Dreams.  But they just bog it down with too much mandatory minigame crap, not to mention Sega designed perhaps the worst Wii remote pointer setup I have ever seen.  When I got to the part where NiGHTS turns into a raft, I thought "that's it, boss fight was awesome, but it's not worth this".

Should only be played on Gamecube. :P
[tornado fang] that, I enjoy my four item slots.

That being said, it'd be nice if the sun didn't come up in the west.  But that's a pretty minor complaint.

Well, Axl not being in the Zero series is kind of to be expected, since Z1 predates X7.  But I'm surprised there was no cameo appearance in an Elf Wars flashback or anything.  Maybe that all has to do with Inti not wanting to touch the art style change.  *shrugs*

We don't know which Saber X gave Zero. Also, Zero sealed himself with the Z-saber on his back, and there clearly was information available on Zero's saber at the Forgotten Laboratory. How it all went down is anyone's guess.
In X6.  Retroactively that no longer applies to Z1's awakening, due to Telos, Elf Wars, and all that jazz.

I [tornado fang]ing crave new StarFox. Less story, less Sonic Team tier friends, less cinematics.

More blowing [parasitic bomb] up throughout the cosmos, "Top Gun"-esque one liners and some form of kick ass multiplayer, co-op or otherwise. Everything is there to make an awesome entry, I just hope Nintendo capitalizes on it when the chance arrives.
So incredibly true.

Also, if they do another "all-range" game as opposed to the corridor format, you NEED to be able to manually roll your ship.  That was my biggest complaint in Star Fox Command.  It was excusable in 64 and earlier, but in this day and age, you expect a little more control to be able to pull wild maneuvers.

Well, let's see, here's my list of recommendations.

First of all, the "obvious" ones.  You absolutely can't go wrong.
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Punch-Out!!
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Here are my other favorites among those I own:
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - Length, challenge, great story.  Will keep you busy for a very, very long time.
Excite Truck - Don't own 'bots yet, but this one's worth a look regardless for one reason: custom soundtracks.  Love the adrenaline rush.
Godzilla Unleashed - If you're any kind of giant monster fan, this game is the ultimate.  Suffers some text and sound bugs, but otherwise gold, no matter what those idiots at IGN say.  Biollante alone is worth the price tag.
Mario Kart Wii - Definitely buy *IF* you intend to play online.  The CPU is the worst ever, but the game is also Nintendo's best online presentation.
Metroid Prime 3 - Rocks all socks, but at this point you probably want to wait for Trilogy.
Any "Rayman Raving Rabbids" game - They are all incredibly awesome, best party games ever.  TV Party is perhaps the weakest due to a poorly organized menu, but it's frikkin hilarious all the same.
Sonic and the Secret Rings - Great stage design, can't complain too much with this one.
Super Paper Mario - You spend an excessive amount of time in menus switching characters and pixls, but other than that, incredible game.

Well, enough talking about topics older than slimey move-in-day hot dogs.

I'm jumping online and Smashing.  Here's hoping somebody joins.  Infinite replay code will be on tonight, so if I disconnect mid-match, it's not by choice, and I will return (maybe keeping the matches short will help minimize/eliminate that, I suspect there's a memory issue with playing too many matches that way).

BTW, Jelly, you suck.  You NEVER attack someone mid-taunt in Sudden Death.  It's like, an unwritten rule.  >.>

it's the fact that you assumed I was a tourney-[Top Spin] who sucks when he's not on FD.
To be fair, I got my ass whipped like hell on the pirate ship.  I maintain that that stage hates me, why I don't know, it just does.

But also to be fair, never were there no items when I was whipping Taiyo's butt.  You join, and two or three have none.  Including Yoshi's Island Melee, 'cuz for as long as I was tossing egg in your face, nothing but that ever landed.  You might want to consider moving up to Medium.

I'm just saying, your presence caused an abrupt enough shift in the match setup that I took notice.  Easily.  If it came off as exaggerated over the course of 5 matches, 1 of which I was out in a salt-water/cannonball haze, then I'm sorry.
