Vix, you rock. 8) :cookie:

As the move changes sink in I think I seriously need to consider a Groudon team.  The amount of synergy he has going for Doubles is just too much.

It appears that all of the Gym Leaders (Kanto and Johto) can be re-battled.
......

F#$%&!! YEAH!!!

Now I don't need to devote an entire cartridge to being ready to fight Kanto Gym Leaders (yes, I honestly did that with Silver after getting Crystal).

Looking into some move set changes on Serebii.  Looks like the "Uber" 'mans are getting a serious leg up over their already insane power.

-Ho-oh and Lugia both get Weather Ball, and Ho-oh also gets Brave Bird (YES!).  Lugia gets......Dragon Rush. o-O
-Kyogre gets Aqua Ring and Muddy Water, just in case the complete water stacking overkill bulk monstrocity didn't [acid burst] you off enough.
-Groudon finally Lava Plumes, which will make for a world of hurt with a Flash Fire partner.  He also gets Hammer Arm.  Ouch.
-The new moves for 4th-gen's legendary dragons are not exclusive to Arceus-made ones, they're part of the normal HG/SS level up.  So, yeah, enjoy a lot of Metal Bursting Dialgas.

X / Re: Best and Worst Armors?
« on: September 11, 2009, 01:31:52 AM »
In a possibly futile attempt to re-rail the topic, I forgot one of Keno's posts when I was typing up responses earlier.

All of Zero's techniques were awesome. I'm willing to go so far as to say X5 had the best weapon set for Zero.
They're powerful but they're also unoriginal.  Every one of Zero's X5 attacks are derived from X4's, with the exception of Dark Hold which is a Time Stopper reference.  He doesn't have any new attacks at all.  But I will say, a damaging air-dash with the ability to slant was pretty cool.  It also works nice with Hyper Dash as it forces a longer air-dash length.

Quote
Yea, & then they couldn't've added shot eraser & other such things to armors.
Oh, yes they could have.  The same as they incorporate Shock Buffer into the armors, as well as that, Saber Plus, and Shot Eraser into Black Zero.

X / Re: Why is Wily obsessed with Zero?

He was waiting until X8 until Zero could finally give ZEE UPPERCUUUT!!!

Why?  Why not?  Wily made Zero, and Zero is Wily's most powerful robot.  Zero has not destroyed X but has fought him to a standstill, and incidentally is quicker to recover from that fight than X.  Better progress than Wily ever made against MegaMan.  Zero also may or may not have succeeded where X failed in X6, depending on how you play.  Zero, like X, grows more powerful over time, so the potential of either to surpass the other is always there.

The phrase, "take Sonic back to his roots" is old.  We all know that.  Reminding me of that is the fact that the recent trailer touting that line (again) showed me absolutely nothing of what I wanted to see (again).

Dear Sega:
Super Sonic in stage replays or GTFO.

They should just make a mix of the 2 of them already.
That's what Model OX is for.  Plus it put Zero's thong on a woman, thus making Nakayama's design acceptable.  If it only had X2's dash-blade and an arm-mounted buster it'd have been perfection.

You could always just up the 2SFs for those of us who know how to play them... :3

My thanks for all the sprite rips.  Dragonite, Lance, Mewtwo, they all look badass.

I'd personally prefer the X-series Zero, but we all know MMZ Zero gets all the cameo appearances...

Plus, maybe they could have him channel a little bit of Omega into his Level 3, and make him do Omega's version of the Shun Goku Satsu. 8D
I'm never going to understand what connection people draw between Ranbu (thank you, Marshmallow Man) and Shun Goku Satsu...

High five! Personally, I want Z Zero for his moveset more than his looks. I want to use the Triple Rod as a pogo stick on my opponent's head, I want to have some fun the Chain Rod, etc. As horrible SvC:C may have been, I really liked Zero in it.
Z-series Zero may have some interesting moves, but unless some Omega-channeling is done it means no Earth Gaizer-esque attack and no Double Charge Wave (and even if that's in it'd have to be done with a freaking pistol).  In any post-X2 timeframe that is always failure (and this is why ZX > ZXA).

I would, but Mrs. Shell has the living room TV.

It's okay.  I was just more upset that I wanted to try an all Pokeball/Assist Trophy Madness Match, and during that 99 Stock thing, it would never let me switch.
Hey, I ALWAYS leave Pokeballs and Assist Trophies on.  I happen to ALSO leave Smash Balls, Hammers, Metal Boxes, Bob-ombs, Smart Bombs, and Blast Boxes on, but still. 8)

Odds are pretty low of item selection going one particular way unless everyone's in on it, anyway.  I recall that from trying to set up all-explosive matches.

Zero / Re: MegaMan Zero, then and now.
« on: September 07, 2009, 12:34:16 AM »
Now there's a point where we could use more info.  And of course, always fun to brainstorm about the gaps.

Personally, I see Zero and Omega as corresponding to the Mother/Dark Elf personnas.  Zero being linked to Mother Elf and Omega to Dark Elf, as such, Zero poses a threat to Dark Elf's curse.  Omega doesn't consider it odd for Dark Elf to refer to him as "Zero", either, so perhaps Weil's curse was meant to work with the "exploit" of an alternate Zero to cement itself.  It is interesting to note that, while the Dark Elf is in Zero's presence (without taking shelter in another's body), she always either flees or her curse weakens.  In Inarabitta's stage she demands that he stops his pursuit, as well.

History records X using the "Dark Elf," but whether that actually means post-curse or if it's due to some historical inaccuracy is up for debate; further muddling this is the fact that the Elf Wars is by some accounts considered the tail-end of the Maverick Wars and by others considered its own distinct event.  Zero "pushed Mama around" by Baby Elf account, so he perhaps used her as well.  If he did, it'd have had to be post-curse for the Baby Elves to know of it.  Perhaps it was through Zero that they were able to use her for a positive ends in spite of the curse, kind of like what happened after the battle with Elpizo.

Dropped.  I apologize, but I hate Timed, and I'd been playing about 20 no items/stage hazards matches against a tourneyfag pal, so I wasn't feeling particularly flexible in my play style.

......and it was too late for my brain to process the fact that kill-stealing doesn't apply to a one-on-one. -AC

Bowser's Flying Slam certainly rocks all in 2.0, that's for sure.  But I am REALLY, REALLY, REALLY getting to hate ROB as much if not more than I hate Toon Link.

Zero / Re: MegaMan Zero, then and now.
« on: September 05, 2009, 08:56:38 PM »
Nice to see you flesh out the details, but I don't think the point itself of Dark Elf being primarily responsible for the mix-ups is up for much debate, considering the fact that IntiCreates stated such themselves in MMZOCW.

Is there a specific place in the Mega Man series timeline for this game?

Aizu: We certainly took the flow of [the] Mega Man, X, and Zero [series] into consideration.  The fact that the first Zero game starts with him coming out of stasis is a result of that deliberation.  From there, we expanded the Mega Man universe itself in an attempt to explain what Dark Elf truly is.

X / Re: Best and Worst Armors?
« on: September 05, 2009, 04:47:54 PM »
Actually, I gotta side with Aqua on that.  Rapid-fire disables charging, thus making bosses a pain in the ass.

Now Extreme Mode is an entirely different beast altogether...
You'll have to pardon my comments on difficulty, I *ALWAYS* play in Extreme Mode.  My ego does not allow me to play on any but the maximum level in any X-series game.

Quote
I would've preferred Stock as well, it does a much better job of distinguishing itself from the Ultimate Armor, which is basiccally the same thing with an infinite Nova Strike tacked on to it.  This begs the question of why X opts to use it on you in X5, considering the fact that he never bothers to use the Nova Strike in the first place.
Took the words out of my mouth.

also, while X6 might have a better parts system, I didnt quite like how the number of parts you could equip depended on your rank. thankfully, X6 is the only one to have that.
At least X6's "rank" is nothing more than collectible items to effectively level-up your character.  Not like X5 where you're punished for killing enemies for some god-forsaken reason.

Quote
Another flaw X6 has, well, I dont know if this is actually true, but Its what Ive heard many times,
that there is a way to get the Black armor the legit way, which is by Beating Nightmare Zero at Level 4, but, due to the way the game is set up, it is impossible to get Nightmare Zero at Level 4, because thats when Gate shows up. and Nightmare Zero is replaced by Highmax.
I've heard of that, but cannot verify it.  Black Armor is pretty much Zero's equivalent to X's Ultimate, which has no standard unlock method (although I must admit the fork at the bottom of the spike shaft in Sigma's stage always looked suspicious to me), so lacking one for it doesn't strike me as odd.  Still, it'd have been nice to have Ultimate Armor and Black Zero in the same file.

ZX / Re: Do you think ZX series would sell more if it was on Wii?
« on: September 05, 2009, 04:32:53 PM »
Look, it's not that I'm incapable of doing it (as you should very well know by now), it's that I find it ridiculous that you need those parts in the first place. Yeah it's usually easy to get the parts, but the very fact that these parts can theoretically be missed is my issue with the system. In no other X game do you really need a part to advance (again, unarmoured), so I find it stupid that all of a sudden it's needed here.
"Can theoretically be missed" implies a casual playthrough by the unfamiliar.  Arguing for the inconvenience of Unarmored X in X6 is entirely pointless, because it is NOT the game's standard form.  Falcon Armor is.  Unarmored exists solely for a challenge.  The only Part which is required to clear the game with Falcon is Jumper.  That and Ice Burst, a special weapon which you seem to consider exempt to your argument, get you through anything.  And all three forms you can possibly come across over the course of the game can get through there unaided.  Ultimate can make it with Ice Burst alone, as well.

Thus your argument applies to a casual run only if somebody is bone-headed enough to have cleared all 8 bosses/gathered 3000 Nightmare Souls without assembling either armor or finding Zero.  Possible but unlikely (especially considering Zero is damn near impossible to miss in Infinity Mijinion's level).  And if you're purposefully doing a minimal run, then it's your responsibility to determine what the minimum requirements are, so the point is moot.

You're arguing on two fronts that are simply not compatible with each other.  Your entire argument centers around unarmored X, which is in and of itself, much less during the game's final stretch, something you should not be doing in X6 unless you're already familiar with it.  That you "can" miss something is irrelevant when you are pursuing an option that exists solely for the purpose of a higher challenge.

Quote
(which you can't do for parts in the middle of a stage, as you obviously know)
The full and sole offender in your argument is at the start of a stage.  And Start/Select doesn't bite.

Dove into Super Mario Galaxy again.  And I gotta say, I'm happy with the fact that it's keeping a faster pace than its predecessors.  The next "enemy base" is around the corner before you know it (and man, that SM64 Bowser Stage remix was awesome).

I just made a CD factory and slashed away with Bowser, but it was teeedious... I kept changing the music of the stage so at least I'd have something different going on there. :P
I ought to send you my factory sometime.  I make alcoves in a pit so as to allow three other characters to blow Hot Curry breath at all the Sandbags in a Special brawl.  Really speeds things up.  Still tedious, but less so.

X / Re: Best and Worst Armors?
« on: September 05, 2009, 01:53:12 AM »
The only problem I had with Ultimate Buster was the awkward delay between shots (that wasn't there in Xtreme 2!).
Xtreme2 was godlike, although with the tradeoff that armor didn't apply to it.

But you ought to try Ultimate Buster with charged saber attacks sometime.  The lag time is considerably less, almost nonexistent with Shadow Armor.  Case in point: Take on Nightmare Zero; you're fast enough that you can block both buster shots and still jump the saber wave.

As for X's buster shots, yes Quick Charge is faster than Ultimate Buster's lag, but I just like the feel of firing charged shots without actually having to charge.

Quote
The part system here is much better in contrast to the terrible parts system in X5, which prevents me from really enjoying the game; you have to kill yourself X number of times so that the boss gets to level 8, and then you don't even know what part you're gonna get outside of reading a faq.
FINALLY SOMEBODY ELSE SEES THE LIGHT!

Quote
Personally, I didn't like the fact that they gave you armor at the start of the game in X5-6 either.  I mean, you had the option of playing as normal X, but it still felt like the producers were trying to hold your hand throughout the game IMO.
In X5, maybe, especially considering they gave you the Plasma Charge (That *SO* should have been Stock...).  But X6 is tough enough that the armor really feels like standard.

X / Re: Best and Worst Armors?

Personally I like the unused version of Zero's death better.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ_JMCXZ6Ho&amp;fmt=18" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ_JMCXZ6Ho&amp;fmt=18</a>

I was referring to the scenario, not the music.

So far as a death scene BGM goes, it's really hard to pick a favorite.  I think the whole "forbidden fruit" mentality simply works in favor of whichever one isn't there.

Try playing the Telos version of Return To Zero, though, it's infinitely more gut-wrenching than either one could ever hope to be.

The only reason Zero can't use the other ones is because he lacks the ability to rapid fire or charge.
Perhaps so, but it's not as if other parts couldn't have been adapted for him, in the same manner as Overdrive's effect differs between the two.  Ultimate Buster, for example, could have given Zero a larger shot.

I can also see why X wouldn't be using Saber Extend, it clashes with Blade/Shadow armors.

Quote
The parts system in X6 makes for some interesting armor setups, though.
Damn straight.  I've heard of the rapid-fire Shadow setup before, but my personal favorite is Shadow Armor with Ultimate Buster, Buster Plus, Hyper Dash, Jumper, and Overdrive.  Between Overdrive and Shadow's Giga Attack, X can absolutely destroy bosses, while having the charged saber at all times decimates stage enemies.  Only con to this setup is that the Ultimate Buster leaves X disarmed when he sticks to the ceiling (stupid, but nothing can be done).

Quote
Also, is it true that the Falcon armor is toned down further in X6 when the Ultimate Armor code is active?  I've heard this before, but I'm not exactly sure if it's true or not.
Nope.  Falcon is toned down equally whether the Ultimate Armor code is active or not.

It's a minor complaint, and one which I realize others may not care about, but then that's why the Options menu is there.  I played and loved Prime 3.  But it came out late enough in the Wii's life cycle that some extra refinement shouldn't have been too much to ask.  Doubly so for Trilogy.

X / Re: Best and Worst Armors?
« on: September 04, 2009, 07:57:40 PM »
Yeah, hitting someone with the extra "wave" at the end does SLIGHTLY more damage than normal.  I know, it sucks.  So does pretty much everything about Blade Armor's arsenal.

As for X and saber parts, there is the matter of focus.  Not like Zero has access to every buster part, only Buster Plus and Speed Shot.  Nevertheless I can see how perhaps X could have used Saber Plus.

They are, but God damn it are they fun.
Indeed.  Although I find X5 a bit less fun due to......too many reasons for me to explain at the moment.  Let's just say the inner workings of rankings and power-ups irritate me, as well as the fact that Zero's boss AI, Zero's "death", and the standard boss music all blow.  But there are some cool music themes, the armors kick ass, and you can play as Zero and beat the snot out of X.  Also has the most powerful ground-punching move of the series.  So, that's something.

3498
ZX / Re: Do you think ZX series would sell more if it was on Wii?
« on: September 04, 2009, 07:27:22 PM »
Why in the blue hell would anyone be attempting an unarmored run if they suck badly enough that the Nightmares are capturing the Reploids, anyway?  The only area where that should remotely be a problem is Metal Shark Player, as there's one Nightmare which is particularly tough to nab in time without a screen-wide move.  And even that is not impossible, I know because I've collected every power-up as both X and Zero without ever obtaining a special weapon.

Yet you don't have to use them to advance for the most part. That's the vital difference here.
Ever played MegaMan 1, 2, 3, or 8?  You're also not going to finish X2 without Damage Barrier abuse, another grounds on which many criticize X6.  And good luck getting to Shadow Devil with Gaia Armor in X5 (possible, yes, but a pain in the absolute ass).

Getting screwed by equipment choice, or weapon energy in the case of earlier games, is nothing new.

Quote
The rest of the arguments are nice and all, but it doesn't change the fact that you can finish the game unarmoured in every other X game without upgrades you can miss for good.
-Rapid 5
-Shot Eraser
-Power Drive
-Speedster
-Quick Charge
-Overdrive
-Damage Converter
-1 Life Up
-2 Energy Ups

...which of those are you having trouble beating the game without?

Quote
This is not the case with X6. I figured I didn't have to explain this, but of course I have to be as crystal clear as possible, don't I?
You are crystal clear.  I simply consider your argument invalid.  I do not consider the usefulness of equipment to be a flaw.  If among 7 different solutions to a spike wall you cannot find ONE that suits you, that's your problem.  If you lack the ability to determine minimum requirements then you should not be attempting minimal runs in the first place.
