Flash =/= destruction radius, which as Flame said is very plainly demonstrated in TDoS when you see the craters afterwards.

Besides, you think pulling an old guy out of a disaster zone is unheard of in fictional stories?

And it's not as if Sigma was the only thing to ever attempt to kill its creator, either.  See Prometheus.  And Bass probably would have by now except that he's not truly evil.  Rebelling against your maker is not unusual or exceptional in any way.

Dammit, to accept the ripoff, or not to accept the ripoff?  I have the DASH soundtracks ripped already, it just stinks to have the package split up like that. O:<

I guess I'll give it a little while to see if any other import shops aren't so cheapass.  If no luck, then I'll get the book.

Flame stole my line.  You can always return to the Stage Select in X6.  You just have to pass through the Title Screen, and lose whatever you collected in the stage you're on, but you can do it.

I got in there on my first run through the game ever, thinking it was the way I had to go. It's definitely not as hard to get in there as some of you seem to think >_>'
It was a while before I noticed that you can get in there unconditionally *IF* you know how to work your dash-jumps.  I guess some players do that out of habit.

Zero / Re: Is Zero still cool?
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:37:52 PM »
he dies again in one X3 ending but somehow mircaloulsy survived by the time X4 came and he was supposed to die again in X5 (in that crappy boss explosion no doubt) in time to tie the game in with the new Zero series that the InafKing was designing but once again Capcon trolled and gave X6 although it had a proper ending to Zero and Zero is revived again.
-Zero never under any circumstances dies in X3.
-Zero is not any more dead than X in X5.
-Capcom "trolled" nothing; Inafune did not produce X5 and it is naive to assume that it is not normal for storylines to change over the course of game development.  You don't have to look very far from the topic to find an example: see Copy X.

Zero, in X-series, is always badass.  X8's redesign killed it slightly, but Lucas compensates.
Zero, in Zero-series, certainly does not LOOK badass but still acts it.  Moreso, in fact, as his conversations with Copy X and Weil are pretty damn awesome.
Zero, in BN, I cannot comment on.

ZX / Re: Raiders = Red Alert?
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:25:17 PM »
Exactly.  Model A is Albert's backup system.  But it cannot be Albert's soul if Albert is still around and the two are defying each other.

Ciel's Biometals, named for their respective Reploids, also have the abilities of said Reploids.  What combat abilities does Albert have?  He shields himself with Model W fragments, that's about it.  Only the copy ability links them.

Consider what happened to the Big Four (red host eyes with Biometals' will overridden), Grey's red eye flash in the opening, and the fact that four broken capsules are in the same room as him.  I don't think it's any small stretch that Model A's will was considered irrelevant to Albert's backup plan in the same manner that the Big Four's wills are irrelevant to their hosts.  From Albert's view, the only point to Model A's soul is its combat abilities, which incidentally allows Albert's backup to realistically obtain enemy DNA data without Model W's aid.

So who better than the only copy-capable Class-S Hunter of 22XX?

Then we have the obvious design inspiration.  Dual pistols, emphasis on aiming over firepower (albeit in a different execution, similar to the copy ability itself), rapid-fire Giga Attack, matching helmet frame and side extensions, the fragment itself carrying an even greater resemblance, and a child-like voice to boot.  Similar character development in that it starts out quick to run but grows more aggressive and trigger-happy given an appropriate role model to follow.  Model A is very obviously designed after Axl, and given the nature of Biometal (8 other models all referencing past characters), you'd need a hell of a good reason for it to not be Axl in the story.

Oh yeah, and even though this is english-exclusive, ZXA was not the first time we saw the name "A-Trans", either.  It's also the name given to Axl's copy ability in X8.

Certainly an interesting idea.  You can print e-Reader cards (photo paper helps), it's the only way to get the unreleased levels and switches, so it might be worth attempting.

The best part of this system is the idea that Nintendo Hard could be rising from it's grave to teach this generation what challenge means. XD
You were obviously never equipped with Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Good point.  I'm just used to Hyper Dashing everywhere, and I foolishly did not write down my "impossible jump requirements" the last time I elaborated on that level.

ZX / Re: Raiders = Red Alert?

Huh, I never noticed the Red-in-a-capsule before...

Wow Capcom DID have a reason to put a model character that by the story isnt supposed to fricking exist since x7 has nothing to do with the zero ZX series in the first place.
That is the stupidest thing I've heard since the lunch lady's sixth husband, Phillipe, ran away to the Nunnery.

X7 is as much a part of Zero/ZX background as any other X-series game.  X6's preview-sealing, X7's foreboding dreams, Orbital Elevators (Z1, Z3, X8, and XCM there), Omega's Rekkoha (X6 skill), and probably many more points that I'm not bothering to keep track of.

You remember those ghost house levels from "Super Mario World" where you had to stay on the moving platform and it slowly chugged past ghosts and other obstacles? Ok, imagine that, but turn the platform into a slavering bone dragon and speed it up by about 3 times. Oh, and throw on three other homicidal friends who would rather jump on your head than let you make a perfectly timed jump. I went in expecting instant success, I left with zero lives and a lower sense of self worth.
Best preview ever.

It's funny, though.  The fact that this feature is going to be in NSMB reminds me of the fact that it's not really original, just more accessible.  Super Mario Advance 4 did the same thing to demonstrate tricks for certain levels.  Of course you happen to need two GBA systems and an e-Reader to see it.

Rockman Series / Re: Ancient Theories/Fanon
« on: October 08, 2009, 03:25:17 AM »
Personally I consider MegaMissions' canonical status to be comparable to the manga; it is a valuable source of insight but not literally applicable to game canon (the difference being MegaMissions is telling a more original story).

MegaMissions is of questionable status due mainly to part 2, in which Light provides an armor that is usable by both Zero and X.  Shouldn't be possible according to X5 (or more accurately, not in that timeframe; XCM shows that somebody pulled it off eventually).  There's also a bit of a style clash as none of the MegaMission "armors" apply full-body the way that the in-game armors do.

Frankly, I'd agree that, more often than not, a blank should be left for US entries rather than filling them in with Japanese things in order to make it more "complete".  Because it leads to less contradictions.  For THAT canon.

As for Japanese > US, it's only more detailed because it has more material.  The US stories, such as they are, don't offer up many bothersome contradictions.  It's usually names Wright to Light, not really story.  There's not much there to contradict.
I'd only consider English "canon" to be separate from Japanese in the case of vocabulary, that being it is only natural for terms to change across regions.

Other than that, I, and I think most fans, regard English games as simply translations.  They are derivative works, and future installments will build on the originals.  The perfect example of this is X3.  "To save mankind, he must destroy Zero".  A small rephrase left big implications that were never fulfilled.  It's not that non-game Japanese sources aren't brought here because they aren't applicable; it's that the big shots in charge generally do not consider it worthwhile to do so.  The entity behind this story is a business, after all, and their primary business is games.

X8's Plasma Shot sucked, though. But in exchange, built in Shoryuken.
Well, that's WHY it needed the quick-charge.  X8's Plasma just can't compare to the near Ultimate Buster badassedness of Hermes Head + Icarus Arm.

After a normal jump, certainly.  But I thought a dash-jump would override that, since Speedster doesn't affect dashing speed.

X / Re: X8. I didnt like it all that much.

I thought dash-jump for everything was faster than ground dashing?  That's the only way you get into Metal Shark Player's alternate area partless (not that you'd want to without Ultimate).

Yeah, most everyone knows that Dragonite is sluggish, but he can still surpass 2/3 of any unboosted 'man (save Deoxys and Ninjask), so Choice Scarf is my way of getting the jump.

Extremespeed I'm dying for simply for the sake of restoring Crystal's moves and offering some non-Scarf options.  But I'll be keeping my current Dragonite too.  Since the situation called for an auxiliary attack, you didn't see the REAL reason I pair Dragonite with Cresselia.  If you hadn't Sucker-Punched Lapras (again, damn that Poison Jab critical), that match would have been mine.

So, Speedster increases jump distance after a momentum-killing move?

Worthless if you're using a part anyway, but nifty nonetheless.

Even if you're in the habit of not using Dark Hold, the slowed dash speed (which applies to dash-jumps as much as it does ground dashing) hurts.  A lot.  You need split-second timing and a good knowledge of where the traps are or you absolutely will not make it.  And this is coming from somebody who does Quick Man's stage without Time Stopper every time.  Zero Virus 1 with Gaia is hell.  Worth it for taking down Shadow Devil with that awesome insta-charge buster, but still hell.

X / Re: Best and Worst Armors?
« on: October 08, 2009, 02:21:39 AM »
Indeed.  The Ultimate Armor is not a merger of other armors, it's simply the most powerful.  Being the strongest does not mean that others have no unique traits, however Ultimate does have most all of its grounds covered ability-wise.  Its buster rocks all socks without increasing charge time, and Nova Strike takes you wherever you want to go.  The only thing I thought Ultimate ever lacked ability-wise was some sort of Z-Saber effect in X6.  I mean, Max Armor got the wave way back in X3, so even if it wasn't designed for the saber like Blade and Shadow were, Ultimate should have had SOMETHING.

In X8 Ultimate Armor did get a "best of both" feel as it combined several abilities from both Hermes and Icarus.  Really could have used Hermes's quick charge, though.

Well, I axed Mewtwo from Doubles because he's really a stand-alone fighter (if I could be arsed to make a decent Singles team, he's automatically in), Palkia has better synergy with Lapras.  The fact that you packed so much Water resistance really prevented me from using that to its fullest.  I did see a bit that I could have done differently in that match, though, particularly the opening turn.  I'm out of practice, and my instincts (Explosion 'man + Ghost teammate = RUN) overrode my better judgment (Choice Scarf + Earthquake = Electrode does nothing).  Very, very stupid of me.

Toxicroak always annoys me.  I keep forgetting that its second type is Fighting and not Dark.  Talk about missing my Mewtwo...

Banning Phione just shows how senseless Nintendo's restrictions are.  The thing has Base stats of 80 across the board, not exactly threatening.  What's the point of distributing a lesser Manaphy if they're treated the same anyway?

You psyched me out nicely in the first round.  I saw Electrode/Rotom as an imminent Explosion, thus the early switch.

I knew I should have put up another Reflect, might have survived that last Ice Punch otherwise.  A very, very close match (and you got some nice hax with that Poison Jab critical hit).

I've been suffering a bit of Poke-mania lately as I actually went back to Red Version (on Lameboy, so I can enjoy SGB border/colors and still be portable, and off-screen Trainer Teleport Mew glitch FTW).

Nevertheless, Aqua, it is ON!  If you're still up for a match, I'll grab your FC and be online in a jiffy.  Mine is:

Yeah, I saw this elsewhere and I still don't think that it's a good comparison at all. I also don't think the Prime series, as high tier as it is, is Nintendo's finest video game. That honor goes to StarTropics Super Mario Galaxy. Seriously, that game was brilliant and the amount of finesse put into it proves beyond a doubt that Miyamoto [tornado fang]ing knows video games.
He sure does (yeah, Galaxy kicks ass).  Except that he won't commit to permanent power-ups in a 3D Mario (*WHY* is the Fire Flower on a timer?!), which makes me fear for Yoshi in Galaxy 2.  God willing they learned something from his atrocious treatment in Sunshine.

I dunno, Bass is pretty comparable to X1 in terms of design complexity.
