Eh, when is there not a new Mario spinoff?  This just means Nintendo isn't resorting to clip re-use for the next time Mario shows his face.

The basic thing is, they wanted to make sure that each player was playing with the same "playstyle", and had a similar model to match. Everybody in the game plays just like Mario. Luigi doesn't have his "floaty" jumps, Toad doesn't run any faster after picking items up, or any other frivolous thing.
There is nothing about Peach's character model that necessitates the return of SMB2 attributes.  Being female and wearing a dress does not break a platformer.

It is rather tedious, but good find.  Wonder if that also works as Zero (X's Yammar Option works while Zero's does not for some reason).

Oh no. No matter which special weapon you use, that fight will take at least 2 minutes. Only by using the Mach Dash Guard Shell trick can that fight go noticeably faster. I'd go find the video that showed that trick, but I'm lazy.
Actually, the fastest way to beat High Max is with Nova Strike after stunning him with the charged buster.  He is positively RAPED by that move; believe me it does not take 6 hits.

Rockman Series / Re: Out of all the villains...

Okay, three endings here:

1. Play as X, Zero not awakened, defeat Sigma.  X finds Zero, is shot through the chest, repaired by Light, continues battling Mavericks with Z-Saber.
2. Play as Zero, defeat Sigma, Zero dies.  X finds Zero, is shot through the chest, Zero reminisces about a bunch of stuff before supposedly dying.
3. Play as X, Zero awakened, defeat Sigma.  X and Zero are blown up, Light repairs X and removes all memories of Zero.

1 and 2 are seemingly the same ending from different points of view.  Except that X's three years scenario got retconned by X6.

Zero / Re: MegaMan Zero, then and now.

Hypershell, you misunderstood me. Because Omega uses a pistol and not a armcannon, we have to asume that Zero never used an armcannon from X1 and upwards to the Zero Series.
Zero does not use an arm cannon in the X-series after X6.  That's three games thus far.  So I do not see that logic.

The fact remains that Omega and Zero use the same model of buster.  So if Omega's buster is the Z-Buster, then simple logic dictates that Milan is running around with the copy Z-Buster.  But this is not the case.

he holds it straight just like Zero, only he holds his arm straight out in front of him, as opposed to Zero's bent elbow and lower arm.
Getting equipped with Sprites Inc here:

4th row, compare 1st (pull-out) and 2nd (firing) frame.  He is holding it at an angle.

Actually, he could be the same Toad.
"The" Toad has red spots, not blue (barring NES color palette issues).  Rather than being playable, original Toad is the one to fire off the propeller and penguin suits in the opening video.

They were playable in SMB2
No, *A* Toad was playable in SMB2.  The other one was Peach.

I guess you're the guy she was trying to fool in SMB3.

What's even weirder about the use of the two Toads is that it's two new Toads.  They could have just as easily used "the" Toad, and Toadette, leaving Toadsworth play the supporting role.

Zero / Re: MegaMan Zero, then and now.

And the reason that explanation doesn't work is that they actually DID resprite Omega's buster, so that he holds it gangster-style.

I'd imagine that Brawl is a different game engine.

"we never considered her. How can you play as her when she's been KIDNAPPED, you foreigner?!"
At least if he'd have said that I'd have accepted it.  But lack of dress physics also kills any hope for Rosalina and Daisy.  Oh yeah, and Wario's not in because they didn't program farting.  >.>

Seriously, I'd hoped that Nintendo was wiser than to release a 4-player Mario game with only the brothers and two Toads playable.  The series has more of a cast to offer than that, and it's just a wasted opportunity.  You'd think the people who brought back the freaking Koopa Kids would have noticed that.

Zero / Re: MegaMan Zero, then and now.
« on: October 19, 2009, 03:54:46 AM »
By Inti Creates logic, Zero never used a armcannon in his entire life, cause he was designed with gun.

Zero's buster in the Zero-series is not his own, he picked it up from Milan, as stated in character profiles on the Remastered Tracks website.  So what projectile weapon Zero was designed with does not change as such a weapon was never depicted by Inticreates.  As for Omega's use of the same model, that is not addressed, although it was always said that Zero's gun was an older buster model.

To nip a counter-point in the bud, "Z-Buster" in Z1 is a mistranslation.  The weapon is always referred to as Buster Shot, properly translated in Z2 and onwards.

What was so wrong about to use a X series styled Zero in the Zero Series? Oh yes he didn't look human enough
That wasn't the only reason.  Inti also wanted to remake Zero so that people could tell the Zero series apart at a glance.  Thus they deliberately tried to make Zero as different as they could get away with.  See MMZOCW.

And if Omega used an arm cannon, that bit of speculation might mean something.

I gotta say the end of the Miyamoto interview yesterday makes me sad:

Quote
Why isn't Princess Peach a playable character in New Super Mario Bros. Wii?

I thought it'd be nice to have her as a playable character, but the toad characters had a similar physique to a Mario character than Peach does. And if one of the four had a dress, we'd have to come up with a special programming to handle how the skirt is handled in the gameplay, and that's really the only reason why Peach isn't playable (laughs). Of course If we had Wario in there we'd have to program a way to make him fart. (laughs)
The attempt to soften the blow is appreciated, Shiggy, but it still hurts like hell.  No Peach, no Rosalina, no Daisy... ;O;

And seriously, skirt physics?!  That's the reason?!  Honestly! O:<

X / Re: Megaman X6. No parts. Shadow Armor. Gate 2....

I've said many times that I don't really consider acquisition without armor to be a valid argument in X6, given that Falcon Armor is the game's default form, thus charging weapons and air-dashing are things the player is reasonably expected to be able to do.  Unarmored is handicapped for no reason other than challenge.  Even in X5 it had some benefits; in X6 it has none.  Still, kudos for the work.

And actually it's 1 Maverick and 2 Parts.  If you're using Hyper Dash and Jumper then you don't really need any weapon besides Ice Burst.  It is more convenient to have something else against High Max, but not necessary.

Zero / Re: MegaMan Zero, then and now.

Ceased to exist after X6.  For reasons beyond my comprehension Inti refuses to acknowledge the idea of Zero, or any derivative thereof, using an arm-mounted buster.

Flame, what did you think Hypershell meant when he said X5 killed Zero in a boss explosion without regard for proximity?
Flame's referring to if Zero was Awakened and was thus shot by Sigma in the stage prior, thus he should allegedly already be dead.

However, this is not the case.  Sigma's dialogue is no different in that instance, so we can only assume that Zero is alive, and thus killed, off-screen.

Yeah, the "normal" X5 ending is bad.  The alternate is even worse.

I'll bet that trio puts on one hell of a Rain Dance.

Oh, and Gaia, before trying to be witty, you need something to take the PRESSURE off you. 8D

Personally, though, if we're going to go the whole anthropomorphic route, I prefer something a little more reptillian:

I don't care how much pain is involved, it'd totally be worth it.

They use it in titles to look cooler I think.
To be fair, the Japanese are not the only ones to use all-caps in titles.

If at the waist, certainly.  With the shoulder it would be the other way around, mainly due to sheathe physics which do not apply to an energy sword, but still.

I'm not sure that D. Barrier is necessary.  Some level of invulnerability-time abuse certainly is, but I don't know if the part extending it is mandatory.  Been too long since I attempted that.

X / Re: How would you describe Sigma?
« on: October 17, 2009, 07:35:43 PM »
There's no solid lead-in between X8 and XCM.  Most of what X8 established is things we already knew had to happen sooner or later according to MMZ (Sigma dead, Orbital Elevators).

There's no other similarity besides the Copy Chip to Evolution correlation.  Not only does XCM work without it (the Copy Chip is relevant to Redips's tactics and to his changing forms after obtaining SFM), but drawing that link with Redips is sketchy when you consider that Redips's concept of Evolution is quite a bit more selfish than the likes of Sigma and Lumine.  Further questionable is whether or not any refinements went into Copy Chips when their post-X8 production resumed thus affecting that mentality, and for that matter, whether or not XCM even falls before or after that second wave of production is not directly stated.

Let's run over what X8 doesn't cover, shall we?

1. Axl's head-shot affecting his copy ability is a fan-based assumption, the consequences of that attack have not been addressed in any way, while Axl's clip in X8's ending implies something a little darker than "Hey, I can copy Mad Nautillus now."
2. Despite the post-X8 wave of Copy Chip production, they are exceedingly rare in XCM.
3. X's elevation to S-Class is unaddressed (was previously B-Class).
4. Axl makes the leap from new recruit to S-Class, something that should not be happening overnight, especially when you consider that X and Zero are the only other ones as of XCM.
5. X's new armor is unaccounted for
6. The series's usual supporting cast is unaccounted for; in fact X8 expanded it rather than diminishing it.
7. Light's absence is unaccounted for.
8. The means by which ANYONE creates an armor for Zero, thus surpassing Light's understanding of him as of X5, is unaccounted for.
9. The X8 art style change flies in the face of any fan-perceived setup attempt since it only increases the contrast between the titles.
10. X8 declined to make the 22XX century leap that XCM did, as the opening cinema confirms we are still in 21XX.

X8 leads into Command Mission about as much as it leads into ZX Advent.  Not at all.  It fits with it, it is part of the same timeline, and it carries numerous recurring themes.  But in terms of timeline placement, no, Command Mission is no more a direct sequel to X8 than it is to the rest of the X-series.  Even if X8 presents some (nowhere near all) information relevant to it, that does not make XCM any less distant.

Yoshi's Island is my fav platformer.  I *WOULD* say SM64DS, if some moron hadn't decided that a super dragon shouldn't be able to grab Bowser's tail without wearing a hat. O:<

It is hard to pick one, though.  Doki/2, and Land also rank among my favorites.  In fact pretty much every Mario platformer is awesome with the exception of Sunshine.  And even that had its moments (forcing Petey to barf up water was pretty cool).

Intro is awesome. 8)

What's even more amusing is that aside from looking that much taller, ZERO's not even standing upright.
One more throwback to X3, I suppose. 8D

Also, this is going to sound really nerdy and pointless, and is, but I don't recall the Z-Saber being mounted opposite Zero's sword hand before.

As I said last page I doubt it is.  Looking at the screenshots there's a real lack of detail in Samus.  Most of what we saw in the trailer was a lot flashier and more polished than that, so my money's on them continuing to tweak her model.

Okay, so I came off a bit strong, but the point is it would be moronic to base a suit design off of a sprite re-use flaw from ONE SINGLE GAME which in and of itself clearly notes the correct depiction within itself.  Twice.  That's as senseless as giving Mario's head to a 3D Luigi, if not more so.
