X / Re: What do you want to see in X9?
« on: November 14, 2009, 02:54:19 AM »
derp, I was talking about a cliffhanger to a game that's already out, similar to NT (if the EXE series pays homage to the X series, why not the reverse?).
Well, X7 did that with MMZ.  It depends.  You don't want to get into too direct a link, or else you wind up writing yourself into a corner.  XCM is a time when the Class S Hunters were split up, supporting cast dropped off the face of the Earth, and Force Metal is abound.  Since it was made to be distanced from the main series to begin with, you probably don't want to force yourself out of writing main-series games before it.

You know, I honestly didn't like Alia's X8 design :/
I liked it, but the original's just as good.  Ditzy?  She's got nothing on Peach.
(PB will kill me for saying that, I'm sure)

I agree on character theme songs. Though I usually saw intro stage themes as their themes songs. (except for X8, where it was just one theme for the stage, not characters.)
My point exactly.

Also, it'd be nice to re-use said intro stage theme for the final stage.  That was one of those subtle touches of X2 that I really enjoyed, and no other game did it.

I want REAL ride chasers back. I wasnt too fond of the X7 X8 ones... But maybe thats just me. I enjoy 2D ride chaser segments. :P
Ah, memories...  How I miss Jet Stingray.

Cyclops was cool, but meeh.. Dunno. It didnt connect with me.
Cyclops is frikkin' awesome if only because of the manner in which X8 stepped up general Ride Armor abilities.  LIMITLESS GROUND DASH, invulnerability to most projectiles, and ground-stomping damage.  To say nothing of theme music.  All very, very kickass.

Now, if you could apply all of that to any armor, I'd go for Kangaroo.  Nothing like spiked fists on a wire.

...Didin't Vile get his own theme? And Sigma? Oh well.
I meant your playable characters.  X, Zero, and Axl.  In previous games they each had a unique intro level theme (assuming they were available for the intro stage, anyway).

Mix-and-match attributes is a pretty good idea, though, although I do agree that taking both boss and Biometal attributes into one character would be a bit too broken.  You could do Head (touch-screen abilities), Leg (mobility), and Arm (weapons) attributes of each of the Big Four Biometals, but possibly toning it down as opposed for a full Double Rock On (maybe modifying normal attacks but not charged).  'course for H's sake that would require actual dash exhaust from the feet, something Inti apparently doesn't believe in.  And you'd need some sort of mobility upgrade for F, maybe a dash-attack similar to Atlas's.

Something like that could probably work as an upgrade to Model X.

I just really want to see them utilize all protagonists (Vent, Aile, Ashe, and Grey), although this will require a new Biometal (Craft works fine for me).

Two characters, if one has Model X, should be able to activate Double Rock On together, but some difference shown for the affinity of each character.  Let's use the ol' Aile/Model X and Vent/Model Z scenario.  They Double, Vent's Model ZX is the traditional "saber with buster-mode" that we're familiar with, while Aile is the other way around.  An arm-mounted buster with a Blade Armor-esque sword mode.  Vent would be better with the saber (longer range?) and Aile better with the buster (spiral-shots on both Double Charge shots?).

Likewise, they could do Model AX, one using an arm-mounted buster with a stronger charge attack, and the other pistols with a wider Homing Shot range and better rapid-fire.

You know, I just thinking about the one thing I missed the most in X8:

-CHARACTER THEME SONGS.  I love that the Ride Armor got its own theme music.  But come on, X, Zero, and Axl need some lovin too.

And more:

-Lucas Gilbertson as Zero.  Really, there's no one else.
-Hair-down Alia.  Don't really care if it's back or over the shoulders.
-Please kill the X8 redesigns.  With the exception of Alia, they suck.
-Mugshots/conversation art that actually displays X's armor properly (has not been done since X6).
-2-player co-op (hey, we can dream)
-Double Charge Wave.  Playable.  From Zero.
-Some power-up that allows limitless ground dashing.
-Proper air-dash momentum (try learning something from Xtreme2, please).

Must have Dynamo pull a GBD at some point in the last stages.  8D
Dynamo cannot die.  He is the Robin Spitz-Swallows of MegaMan (yay, X6 Nightmare Soul camping).

Yeah, it did handle a little more loose than your average Mario, but you do get used to it.

So far as enemies go, I miss the Bomb Koopas.

And yet Daisy's become a mainstay.
As much as it pains me to say this, that's only true in spinoffs (sports/party games).  Daisy has not been featured in a "main" Mario game.  Mario Kart is pretty much the high point of her appearances.  Believe me, I want that to change, but time after time opportunities for her are missed.

ZX / Re: Who exactly created the Biometals?

They are fully able to.  They do not because, canonically speaking, it is pointless.  Double Rock On draws out more power.

Which is odd, because they scrapped the outright use of Model O by itself by Vent/Aile.
How is the lack of Model O by Vent/Aile any different from the lack of Models H, L, F, and P by Vent/Aile?  Again, singular Rock Ons are pointless story-wise; Double Rock On is superior.  Generally it functions as enhancing the secondary metal; ZX being the exception as its abilities are a more direct merger of X and Z.

Quote
they made it Ox just to "qualify" Model Ox's "weakness"
The idea that Double Rock On weakens the secondary model is complete fanon and a direct contradiction to Prometheus's words after he first fought Vent as Model ZX.

And he should know.  He fought both Model Z and Model X alone.

It's probably just the simple fact that Super Mario Land is not considered as "mainstream/traditional" a Mario title as the others.  If Nintendo felt dirty from touching it, we'd have not heard Sarasaland's underground theme remixed in Brawl.

I'd kinda like to see a little Super Mario Land tributing in a newer Mario game.
Damn straight.

Odds are that they won't make a Wii HD.  Instead, what they might do is make a new HD system, further down the line when more and more people have HD capable systems.  Despite sales, I don't think that HDTV's are yet as mainstream as everyone thinks they are.  I could be wrong though.  Either way, without an HDTV, one cannot enjoy the HD systems.  Maybe it'll be the HDii.  Who knows.
It's certainly climbing, but I don't expect it to replace SD in the near future the way all the media outlets claim.  And as a litmus test you can just look at the fact that regular DVD is still the dominant movie format.  A lot of consumers are simply "satisfied" with that level of quality and aren't willing to pay the extra premium.  For that matter, those of us older than 15 may not appreciate the fact that old sources look like complete garbage on an HD set.  Sad to say but even in this day and age there is still such a thing as VHS releases that never saw a move to DVD, not to mention not everybody wants to re-buy the same thing over and over.

I think a lot of the HD sales climb is how hard the flat-panels are being pushed.  A lot of entertainment centers these days don't even have the depth to hold a CRT.  My father-in-law got a HD set for one reason: because he did not believe he could find an SDTV anymore (apparently he doesn't like to shop beyond the displays or something).  They have no HD source.  The only reason they even have a progressive-scan source is because I bought them component cables for their DVD player.  That was a year ago, and nothing's changed.

Hell, the last month or so, the two of them have been fueling the rumor mill with their passive but frequent "HD is cool" comments. Seriously, wat is this? I don't even
There was never an issue with whether or not they liked HD, it was whether or not they believed it practical for their business model.  There's a difference.  An HD system is more expensive for everyone, both consumers and developers, and Nintendo didn't believe that the cost increase was worth it.  Like online gaming before it (and 3G use as another current issue), Nintendo will utilize it when they believe it is cheap and convenient enough.

Yeah, but Giro died before he started wearing blue.

OR SO YOU THINK!

Why? He could just as easily been stolen out of the lab with the rest, but not given a biomatch yet.
Or somebody other than Vent/Aile could fish him out of Area N.

Those equipped with Sprites Inc. know that there was in fact tile data for a Model O life bar, along with some leftover ZX junk.

except its only called a biometal after you give it to Fleuve. before that, its just a "mysterious rock" that happens to look like an Omega Livemetal.
By what logic is Biometal not considered Biometal until someone calls it such?

Not all Biometal is immediately recognizable.  Model A doesn't recognize the Model W cores.

I'm not sure if it's really "savescumming" when you can do it without creating an actual save file (XC aside since that is a compilation issue, and there are plenty of worse ones than that).  I'll grant you that expanding the stage exit to apply regardless of whether or not the level was cleared would have streamlined things a bit, but the end result is still the same.

why not make it ACID rain then?
Lack of healing points I'd imagine.  Of course, you could spin it as lowering defense instead of causing constant damage.

The rain, as-is, interferes with jumping since it pushes you to the side.  Kinda like Tornado Man's stage in MM9.  Except a lot more aggravating seeings how X6's jumps are more tricky.

Oh, and one thing I forgot.  About Marino, remember Zero's storm-off?

"They're the dregs of Giga City."
"The 'roids here could go Maverick at any time."

By your logic Marino and Spider are already confirmed Maverick, and this dialogue makes absolutely no sense.

I believe the reason why they removed the Irregular status of Epsilon and the others because Redips was involved in the whole affair and manipulated the Liberion/Rebellion members, the Irregular Hunters and the Gigantis Resistance into playing into his hands.
I beg to differ.  Redips did not manipulate Rebellion.  He was manipulating the Hunters specifically because of his lack of pull in the Rebellion.  "You know how well Epsilon hides things.  So, I took advantage of your top-notch abilities as Maverick Hunters."  Epsilon's actions were his own.

I also remind you, as I've already pointed out earlier, that "deferred" does not mean "not Maverick."  It means the judgment was delayed indefinitely; the higher-ups didn't want to touch the issue one way or the other.  If Maverick status were only a matter of criminal behavior, there really should not be any reason for such indecisiveness.

ZX / Re: Who exactly created the Biometals?

Its the biometal thats the mystery. you can interact with Fleuve to get it, but only after clearing the game
Again, the BIOMETAL is not post-game, you can obtain it as soon as you have access to Area N.  You just can't use it until post-game.  There's a difference.  The implication I get is that it is canonically there but that Vent/Aile are not "meant" to find it in the storyline.

Well, all you trainers from America, don't forget to download your Movie Arceus at your nearest Toys R Us from now until 15th November. *Envy*

Also, those that live in Australia also get a chance to download this Arceus at various EB Games and K-Mart stores, from now to 16th November. *Double envy*

X / Re: Robot Prejudice: Has this been explored in the X series?
« on: November 07, 2009, 05:52:25 AM »
As time went on, Repliroids who did criminal things while being unaffected by the Irregular / Sigma Virus showed up. Arms dealing, robberies, whatever floats your boat. During that time perioid, the Irregular term was being expanded. That's at least how I see it. We all agree that it was originally just a definition of Repliroids running riot, but as time went by, Repliroids, having free will and all, could do evil things completely on their own, starting the whole dilemma with X' circuitry and what not. I honestly don't see why Lumine's "revelation" was so ground-breaking.
Except that at no point within the series is the term Maverick applied in the manner you're suggesting.

In fact X5 speaks rather directly against it, since Zero is on the whole "destroy Mavericks" boat and yet is willing to let illegal arms traders walk away.  Grizzly Slash in fact has run into him in the past, and it was evidently ugly, but he lived.  Maverick Hunters are figures of authority and thus I'm certain them acting as law enforcement when the need arises is not unusual, but that is not their primary duty.

Command Mission also speaks against this.  Epsilon's actions were criminal, there's no doubt there.  He and his men seized Giga City, imprisoned its people, banished humans, blew up Lagrano, attempted to do the same to Central Tower, manufactured weapons, and tried to irradiate the planet.  So why is his Maverick status considered at all questionable?  There was nothing legal about Epsilon, but whether he was Maverick or not was a messy issue that the authorities didn't want to touch.

Lumine's speaking of "going Maverick at will" also refers to rebelling against humanity and not robbing the repli-Kwik-E-Mart.  Although I agree it's an odd thing to brag about considering that Sigma and Vile did it.  However, X8 also delves into the definition of Maverick earlier with Dark Mantis.  There is a misconception that Mavericks exist only or near only from viral infection and other such errors.  As Mantis put it, "How can you accuse us of being something that we cannot be?"  If any free willed crime qualified as Maverick behavior, that argument would be completely invalid.

Incidentally such an attitude probably explains why Mavericks are generally destroyed.  They're regarded as infections/malfunctions and rehabilitating them is not an option.  No Reploid has ever been cured of a Sigma Virus infection; Marino's still looking for one according to pre-release notes in XCM.  A criminal of sound mind is an entirely different story.

Quote
And besides, and again, just by my own impression, I never had the feeling that X, even when he questioned Epsilon, Scarface and the others of the Cadre, would have not killed them or at least taken them into custody.
Isn't half the point of your discussion that there is considerable difference between the two?

Quote
Thing is, the real X didn't bother to confront his copy until Z3.
MKII =/= MKI.  Copy X MKII was a tool of Weil.  Perhaps that earned him some sympathy.

As for why X didn't appear to the Big Four, who knows?  Seamless backstory isn't really Inticreates' forte.

X / Re: Maverick Hunter X6. Nightmare System
« on: November 07, 2009, 05:29:55 AM »
In my first post I covered how the system would be managed.

As for the effects themselves...  Well, the only one I consider lousy as-is would be Mijinion's.  X6 is really not a game where you can afford limited visibility.  Turtloid's should probably ease up during areas with long jumps; it can really screw you in Yammark's alternate stage.  But the ability to choose effects at the Stage Select would alleviate that.
