You mean this one?

Fanart.  Nakayama's lines aren't that solid.

You mean this figure?

Custom, made by this guy.  Note that they're two different designs.

The is no officially released MMZ-style X artwork or figure.  The only glimpse we got of MMZ-style X was at Yggdrasil in Z2, which Sprites Inc. can help you out with.  That's it.

I recall no such Nakayama design, the figure was simply done by someone imitating his style.  Why wouldn't it have been in MMZOCW otherwise?  The thing has a metric ton of concept art.

Nakayama can't even do his own series artwork right IMHO.  Have you seen the ZX artwork that was done by him?  He makes Vent and Aile look like 10-year-old drunks.  And all of his artwork leaves a sketchy unrefined look (see Z1 mugshots).  Makoto Yabe seriously one-upped him when it comes to Zero/ZX art.

Anyways, XCM's armor is a canonical change and not a style change, thus why it was not applied to Zero or Axl.  Between X6 and Z3 it is pretty well established that Zero doesn't receive such a treatment in the storyline.  Even if you're going to retcon that, doing so requires placing X9 post-XCM.  Which would leave the Axl shpiel rather horridly broken up.

MMZ-style X is fan-based.  There's Copy X, Cyber-Elf X, and Model X, that's it.

Shall I fetch the Anime into to X3?   8D
X3 isn't even physically capable of keeping track of which armor Zero is wearing.  Proper running is the LEAST of that trailer's worries.

And X4's cutscenes are hardly the epitome of consistency either, as quite a few design details are glazed over.  However, while we're on that note, recall that Zero is shown running in his opening cutscene, full-body.  Recall also, for Zero vs. Sigma, that leg overlap is dramatic and stuff (ask Ruby Spears X).

I believe we established that slimming on the level of MHX is acceptable.
Nakayama should do all the designs for X9. 8D

There is no greater X-series artist than Sensei.  If they're not bringing him back they can at least respect his awesomeness.

Not expressly stated to my knowledge, only that Z4's eight warriors are buying time for its completion.  Simple logic would dictate that it started between Z3 and Z4, given that Ragnarok is redundant as long as Omega can missile-ride wherever he wants.

Apparently only actual video-game stores got this early.  Wal-Mart and Target aren't carrying it yet for some God-forsaken reason, so I made a midnight visit for nothing (hey, it worked for Brawl).

And if I know my semi-local Gamestops, they probably sold out on pre-orders alone, like they do everything.

Z-Knuckle seems obsolete with the forms mechanic and all...

I wouldn't mind seeing a Chain-Rod esque weapon, though.  Perhaps as an Hu/Re sub-Weapon, latching onto walls could give them a work-around for lacking a wall-kick.

There was a special weapon in X7 that allowed Axl to split fire between two enemies.  Other than that, no.  Dual pistols have been seen in artwork/cutscenes, X8's Giga Attack, and XCM, but for normal attacks in sidescrolling gameplay, Axl uses only one pistol.

It could work if one HAPPENS to be playing with remote/nunchuck.  Like the motion-activated Smash attacks.  Likewise, 99% of players would ignore it, but it would be a nifty bonus for the remainder.

Well, if I played with final smashes on. But I don't. Because they suck.
You know something, you suck.

In fan-based Tournaments (or "standard battling" as they like to delude themselves), item duplicates are permissible, which generally amounts to everyone and their dog debating between Leftovers and Life Orb barring some special circumstance.  However, in Nintendo's tournaments, and in most of the higher-level console games, duplicate items are forbidden.  Myself, I believe that using duplicate items shows a lack of originality, so I avoid it anyway.

Plus Salac is overrated. In the face of a Mach Punch (Or rather, a Mach Punch in the face) it doesn't usually help. XD
Only way an attack boost would work any better is if you're packing your own priority attack.

Yeah, basically any "pinch" berry is screwed in that situation.  If you're brave enough to pray that doesn't happen, Salac/Reversal is the usual shpiel.  That or Belly Drum/Salac.

I have to admit, though, Liechi Berry on a priority abuser isn't a bad idea.

See, IMO they're SUPPOSED to be bulky.  It's the way it was in pretty much all X1-7 artwork.  To me it conveys a sense of power.  X8's models looked like something you could snap in half.

Art style aside X8's models lacked detail as well.  All characters were the same height, X standing up straight giving the impression that he was taller than Zero.  In artwork the redesign snazzed them up a bit (though I still say Zero looked positively hideous), but in-game it simply did not work.

X's pose wasn't very dynamic, that's true. But X8's game models were MUCH more spot on than the eggheads in MMXCM.
*gives him ZEE UPPERCUT!!*

I don't know what XCM you were playing.  That game was about as close as we got to seeing Sensei in 3D (the way it SHOULD be), and the models were much better detailed than either X7 or X8.  Best 3D visuals the X-series ever saw in my book.

However I do agree that MHX was a killer style.  If they went with that I'd be satisfied.  Just so long as they correct Zero's helmet spikes.

I'm not even sure why you'd want duplicates of the "pinch" berries, save maybe trading leverage.  I can't imagine more than one 'man in a team using the same hold berry (and I personally do not use duplicate hold items anyway, my own code of honor there), and Salac is usually the preferred one anyway.

With the EV-lowering berries, there's every reason in the world you may want to chow down on 11 in a single go.  At the very least they could have been made buyable.  I'd much rather trash the Elite Four for money than just leave my DS on for the sake of leaving it on.

Well, in three hours give or take a few minutes of traveling time, it'll be NSMBWii.

Until then, Super Princess Peach.  Picked it up yesterday to reward myself for some unannounced overtime at work. -_-  And I was in Toys R Us anyway getting my Arceus.

Brawl is certainly one of them, although pointing would have made menus and some Final Smashes more intuitive (Snake, Pikachu, etc.).
Menus, I get.  Snake, I get.  Dragoon, which you didn't mention, I would get.  Pikachu I don't get.  I see him as one of those characters, like Super Sonic and Super Dragon Yoshi, where quirky movement is part of the tradeoff of the Final Smash's power.  Momentum doesn't just happen, it's programmed on purpose, and mastering it is part of learning the game.

Yeah, it takes time to get used to not killing yourself.  Peach seems to love getting caught under the bottom corner of the castle seige.

Legend, you are a meanie pose-breaker. ;O;

And for crying out loud, whoever came up with the idea of an Animal Crossing stage should be shot.  I cannot fight with a [tornado fang]ing lullaby playing in the background.

It's the "final" part that's my biggest issue. One cannot remove a player character from the most important segment of the game.
Well, as I said I agree with the point, but for a different reason.  I don't really see yours, all it means is that the final boss varies with your player (which was done in MHX).  I just feel that story-wise having there be no conflict beyond Axl would be a bad move.  What would be going on for the rest of the game that it's all resolved before Axl's headshot comes into play, anyway?  There needs to be something beyond him.

And yeah, we both agree that we need Boss Rush.

Quote
they can only attack until their weapon energy runs out
No reason this cannot be the case, in fact as I mentioned last-post I believe this is the best way to go.  When I refer to ZXA I mean the simple act of boss copying in a platformer, I am not referring to energy management nor am I suggesting that ZXA's take on it would be ideal for an X-series game.  I don't buy that in the least.

Further discouraging the use of alternate forms to replace the default is the fact that Axl hovers.  That in and of itself is a useful ability you'll probably want to use throughout the game.

On the "cutscenes" thing, though, ZXA itself worked around that by switching back to base form.  Another option would be to simply switch mugshots and leave it at that, possibly having Axl speak in a distorted voice.

X / Re: What do you want to see in X9?

I'm all for Boss Rush, it's something that should have been done ages ago.  There is no reason you can't kill the character-change for a special segment.  I'd appreciate that in the intro stage anyway in the interest of character themes.

All you need is a reason for X and Zero to split up.  Say they don't know exactly where Axl is, so they pull a stage branch ala Xtreme2.  You play as Axl, you have your choice of either branch, and which you pick decides whether you meet X or Zero.

I'm not sure whether or not I want to see Axl as the FINAL boss, because it would seem pretty anti-climactic if there were no surprises beyond X8's foreshadowing.  But Axl as *A* boss, that could easily work.

I really don't think Axl using an improved version of Advent's system would work out at all in the X-series. Such an ability would allow him to pretty much become THE sole playable character in the game, leaving X and Zero behind.
I don't see how that's at all true.  If 8 animaloid forms didn't make us forget about the other MegaMan characters in Advent, there's no reason X8 would do it.  Without being limited by Zero/ZX's 4-element system there's every reason for copying bosses to be more offensively-oriented and less obstacle-oriented.  There's no reason you need to be granting Axl a new obstacle to clear with every form.  Rather, like Command Mission, your ultimate goal is really expanding his attack selection.  But by using A-Trans for it rather than alternate weapons, it lets the game developers get out of Axl's default mold of 8-directional rapid fire.  That really caused him a severe lack of variety in X8; every weapon was the same handling with a different effect, and it made Axl feel monotonous.

It would also make it easier for there to be an actual point in Axl obtaining Weapon Energy upgrades, if we were to utilize that with A-Trans attacks, which I believe should be the case.  Honestly, when you only need an A-Trans form for five seconds to get through a tunnel/spikes/guard Reploid, who cares how large your Weapon Energy is?

I'm not really into the idea of copying bosses, as they generally feel really bulky.  Heck, the only ones in Advent I used at all were Buckfire and Hedgeshock.  They should expand the amount of reploids that Axl can copy
Here's the thing, though.  As sub-par as ZXA's boss copying was, the Reploid copying of X7 and X8 bordered worthless.  I don't consider it surprising that, when you have 8 forms at your disposal at any time, some of them are for a particular niche (Chronoforce and Rospark in particular).  That said, there was an obvious lack of focus on mobility, and yes, that did hurt (especially Hedgeshock and the Shisaroids).  If they could correct it for future implementation, it would work out a lot better.

For X-series, using a proper boss weakness system over Zero/ZX elemental should help things out too.  It'd mean that every form would be strong against SOMEONE.  You dodge the redundancy of two forms per element, as well as the general pointlessness of neutral-element forms.  All of that forced Advent into a focus on obstacles, and in the X-series that would be easier to avoid.

I should probably mention that I do like the idea of Axl having multiple weapons to choose from as well.  I just think that 8 of them is overkill.

Dual pistols sound nice, but I'm not really sure how that would be implemented in a platforming environment.
It's more of a cosmetic change than anything else.  He's already a rapid-fire character, so just have him hold both pistols out and fire one after the other rather than using a pistol-sized machine gun.  The only gameplay difference would be that the shots aren't perfectly single-file, but that was done as early as the NES with Needle Cannon.

Another thought I had would be, if we went back to manual rapid-fire, he could shoot two shots to a button press.  Dunno.

Playing as them was pretty pointless as well, unless you just wanted 2 of each character.  They should've had more unique playing styles or something.
Well, playing as them WAS fanservice, and it was appreciated.  But yeah, I do agree that the whole multi-navigator thing is kinda pointless.

I didnt quite care for how cheaply Zero died in the awakened scenario.
I don't care for how cheaply he died in EITHER scenario.  Killing Zero is the one thing Inticreates did better than the X-series crew.  Unfortunately that's not saying much.

Setting aside for the fact that these "leaks" are still rumors from unnamed sources.

When is a game company *NOT* thinking about new hardware?  Doesn't mean it's actually what their next system will be.  Doesn't mean it'll be released next year.  Nothing about this source says that it'll be another DS system, anyway.  They sourced that Nintendo is cutting a deal for the Tegra chipset, which is mobile technology, but they have nothing but guesses as to its implementation.  The article itself admits that reviving the Gameboy brand for a single-screen unit is possible (1st page, 2nd to last paragraph).

So there is, in other words, no way of knowing what type of hardware the chipset is being used for, what features it will have, what it will and will not be compatible with, or at what point Nintendo may cap the processing speed in the interest of battery life.  For all we know Nintendo themselves may not have finalized that yet.  No need to jump to conclusions.

As for the developer part, blame them for thinking that because a system had X feature, they needed to use it in X manner, even if it wasn't particularly beneficial to their game design.
Very true.  Even Nintendo themselves ignored such features once in a while.  There's no pointing in Brawl or in Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn.  Hell, those of us who've checked out the homebrew community know that the DS doesn't even need to keep both screens lit.  More than any unknown policy by Nintendo, the issue is more likely the game developer's fear of public/reviewer backlash at the perception of not using the system's features to their fullest.

Well, I got mine.  As we all know, Level 100, so no EVs beyond Vitamins (a fellow DS-user was complaining about that when I went to download).  Also, its Nature is Bold (-Attack, +Defense), so if you're not going for some in-battle boosts you'll want to be focusing on the Special side.

I see the whole Level 100 shpiel as encouraging Arceus's as a jack-of-all-trades Pokemon and preventing the raw overpowering storm that would be Smogon-esque manipulated stats.  It's a known fact that with the inability to breed, legendaries are a bit tougher to nail on specific IVs and Natures (I cannot help but laugh at the absurdity of using Hidden Power on Raikou in-game, and there is not a single Smogon moveset that works without it).  Arceus simply takes that to a greater extreme in exchange for its unmatched Base stats.

Look at this way.  Without a Nature boost, any of Mew's stats (besides HP) with maxed EVs will range from 268 to 299, which can be done in only two stats.  Arceus, even with only 100 EVs (Vitamins) can range from 270 to 301, and that can be done five times over.  I don't think that's too shabby.

Bigger issue would be the pressure of it's promotional-only moves.  Using them all you don't have a very great Pokemon.  Delete them and they're gone forever.

And you know, on an unrelated note, I'm really hating the whole berry-growing shpiel.  I decided I'd need about nine Qualot Berries (lowers Defense EVs).  So, I got to planing.  Now I have to wait EIGHT HOURS PER STAGE, totaling over a full day, before I can use them.

And people wonder why I hate the EV cap.

Yeah.  You could just have Axl fight X or Zero and have them pull a Hail-Mary even after he wins.  You would have to momentarily kill the character-swap, but that's not a big deal.  Xtreme2 did it.

I say "or", because I do not believe that any non-Supra-Force-Metal Reploid should be engaging a post-X1 X and Zero at the same time and stand the slightest chance of victory.  It's been well established since Xtreme2 that that's suicide.

As for gameplay, X8 made Axl more different from X but I do feel that Axl could stand to be touched up.  Advent's shpiel of copying bosses would be cool if better implemented.  Also, he should be using both pistols in his attacks.
