I like those and all but I'd like to be like a breeder or a ranger or something.
TEAM ROCKET
One thing I liked about Colosseum: You were actually a renegade from the local evil team.  It's the only time in the series history that you play as an established trainer and not some upstart hugging his mom goodbye.

The other thing would be that the Shadow mechanic encouraged actually raising/bonding with the guys instead of leaving them rot in the PC.  You weren't just trapping animals for an encyclopedia; rather they actually needed your care.  It's a shame they couldn't keep that as a sidequest in future titles; it works great as long as they don't go into overkill (which Gale of Darkness did, necessitating the Purification Chamber and defeating the whole point of purifying through bonding with a trainer).

Damn right.  8)

I mean, my thing with Ganondorf is that he's pretty much all but replaced the Blue Pig, the REAL Ganon, here lately. That's a pretty big stab in the heart of an old head fan like myself. He hasn't even appeared in Smash Bros, a series which is supposed to represent and honor Nintendo and the rich history thereof! Yet, the red headed punk-ass does! No respect for the original creation!  ;O;
For me, the pig doesn't have to be blue, or even trident-wielding, but I at least demand a biped with some manner of weapon.  The TP Beast Ganon just doesn't do it for me.  OoT's kicked major ass, though.

I know what you mean.  Heroes is my least favorite of the new-age Sonics (that I've played), and even I've wound up defending it.  The games still have their redeeming points, they're just not as consistent as they used to be.

You're preaching to the choir for me, but I dislike hacking when not necessary.  First of all I want to do things as "legitimately" as possible, secondly it's tedious, and thirdly Rein hates Pokemon.  Pokemon carts carry two 256KB saves as a safeguard against corruption, and Rein can only find one of them (the game alternates), so whether you're hitting the "current" save of the "backup" save is a crapshoot.

One thing I'd like to see is "baby" forms for Onix, Scyther, and Sneasel, so that way BR's "unevolved hatchling" matches can return without those three annihilating all the others.

If I were a betting man? I would think this would be Lucario's next evolution.
Related to Lucario or not I would bet it's going to replace him in Smash4.

And yeah, I'd like to be proven wrong too.

I wonder if they'll do anything relating to EVs, though. The finer intricacies of "Pokemon Eugenics" never did anything for me, and as the system is now, I don't see that changing. So I'm interested in seeing what they'll do this time around.
Now this, I'd be interested in.  The current EV system renders in-game Pokemon worthless for tournament play (without some serious berry pig-outs, anyway) and requires you to re-raise them completely depending on your focus on physical or special attacks.  You can't raise an all-rounder the way you could in 1st/2nd gen, and it makes experimenting much more difficult.

The stat-experience from the older games just made so much more sense to me.  The caps were pretty darn high, but other than that, the fact that the whole story playthrough experience was still valid for higher matches made the game a lot more accessible (not to mention it's nice that your starter is actually worth something at the end).  Now you try to raise a team for, say, Battle Revolution's Masters rounds, and God help you if you find out one of your team members needs a new EV spread.

Well, I personally regard Shadow higher than Heroes, so that post didn't make much sense to me anyway.

I'd probably like Heroes a lot better if the team selection meant something other than the game's difficulty setting.  Funny, most Sonic games mismanage multiple characters by making them too radically different, but Heroes had the opposite problem.  There was almost no difference ability-wise between the teams, and whatever little difference there was always acted as a functional substitute.  So your team selection was pretty much pointless, unless you were crazy enough to enjoy the Chaotix missions.

You CAN Mega Crush out of it, in the beginning parts of the grab, if you have the meter to do so. And you should, it's not like you have a use for Lightan's supers in this fight any way.

You still lose a bit of life in the exchange, but the loss that comes from bursting is, of course, MUCH preferable to getting deadly hand lasers. 8D

Beyond that, follow the advice above. Use Baroque as a means to cancel out of whiffs, if it helps.
I believe I mentioned that I did eventually button-mash my way through, but thanks for the info.  Mega Crash is something I keep forgetting about.  As for Baroque, I generally try to end my combos with something that has decent knockback, so I rarely need it in normal fights.  But I can see how for Lightan it would be saving grace.

Meh, I'd probably never remember Baroque in the heat of battle anyway.  You're talking to a guy who is still trying to not get his "Hadouken" and "Shoryuken" pad/stick movements mixed up, and that's without the dreaded online lag.

Gold Lightan vs. Yami.

What.  The.  F*@#!?!

Is it even POSSIBLE to avoid the hand's super-grab when you jump/dash slower than continental drift?  I had to button mash my way through (after several Continue screens).

Long as it's for you and not for me, seeings how I made it clear, twice, that my opinion of Unleashed is only an early impression and not a proper in-depth experience.

And many thanks to your dad for the last-minute interference.  Winning in two attempts is a new record for me. 8D

Well, they seemed to be going in the "solo" direction with the whole character-elimination stunt that they pulled.  True, Knux and Tails weren't part of it, but still.

The thing is, if Tails and Knuckles enter late, one has to ask why.  Because I certainly don't think that the storyline of a side-scroller is a big enough focus to affect character availability that way.

What? No love for
Holoska Day-Cool Edge
?
I'll say this: You did a hell of a better job picking samples than Flame did (sorry, pal, but Day Boss Battle wasn't doing you any favors).

LoL, my point still stands!   8)
I'd argue with that if I knew what your point was.  No refusal to play a game was made during this discussion (although STM recommended others do so, but that was it).

Despite STM's advise, if I do thirst for more Sonic, Black Knight would probably be the first place I turn, mainly because my ears command me to.  What I've heard of Unleashed's soundtrack, I can't stand.

I like all sonic games. but I can see why people complain about some. Some complaints are valid, others just nitpicking. Aside from the ridiculous loading times, I cant see whats wrong with 06. It feels more like the Adventure games than Heroes or Unleashed, for sure. And Unleashed, while a silly gimmick, was fun. Heroes, I cant see a problem with. Each team has varied gameplay. especially Chaotix.
"Like" is something of a relative term when you consider how many different aspects there are to like and dislike about any one game.  But yeah, most Sonic games that I've played have SOME redeeming points.  Unleashed excepted, the music alone is usually a safe bet on consoles.

Haven't played all of 'em, though.  Black Knight and Unleashed are still on my to-do list, and I lack an appropriate console to play '06.

Considering "Dark" as a type was introduced with Lugia's debut I do not believe that was the intention at all.  Despite being typed Psychic much of Lugia's powers revolve around water.  There is the whole "darkness of the ocean depths" shpiel, but there are definitely legends darker than Lugia (mainly Giratina and the apty named Darkrai).

Of course, Ho-oh does have the whole rainbow thing going.

You forgot Sonic with Tails following. At least Sonic Advance 1 got that right.
I did not detail but figured it would be assumed that I meant the inclusion of previous Genesis mechanics involving said characters.  IE: Tails being playable with flight, and not a boss cheer-leader (*shudder*).  That includes Tails following, co-op, piggy-backing Sonic in flight, the whole sheebang.

I sincerely doubt it'll happen, I'm just saying, if they wanted to do justice to the name it's what SHOULD happen.

I'm not terribly excited about this (yet), because I've never believed that Sonic in 3D was "doomed" as a concept.  In fact I think in many ways the Adventures retained elements in the 3D leap that Nintendo's oft-praised plumber failed to (3D Mario is based almost solely on sandbox fetch-quests, which was awesome when 3D was new).  The problem is not the concept but is Sega's development process.  Ever since Heroes they have refused to properly fine-tune the gameplay of their projects and generally insisted on bogging them down with filler.  Now maybe, since they don't have to be rendering environments as far as the eye can see, going side-scroller will discourage the latter.  But the fact is, any failings in "new" Sonic have rarely been about concept, rather they're about what kind of effort Sega is putting forth.  That's why the "Sonic cycle" exists, and it's something that a "dimension shift" doesn't in and of itself fix.  Don't believe me?  Pop in X7 and check those 2D levels.

I think Mirby meant legendary versions of non-legendary Pokemon.

Which is not happening because a great deal of legendary Pokemon can be outdone by non-Legends anyway, as Regigigas of all 'mans certainly demonstrates (many others suffer limited move pools or oddly balanced stats).  A legendary is simply one-of-a-kind, and expected to have high base stats, but may or may not be actually useful.

I don't see a hierarchy between games either.  The only reason Kyogre and Groudon [twin slasher] all the others is because they abuse the Ability mechanic new to their generation, and all the oldies got stuck with Pressure.  As far as surpassing the folklore surrounding them, well, the legends of the first two generations were more mysterious than anything.  Same from the Regi trio.  A detailed background for a "legendary" Pokemon was, outside of Mewtwo (which is natural since he was a product of science), pretty much new to 3rd Gen.

Gen4 represented Time, Space, and Deities (once again, with more elements).
You forgot parallel universes (Giratina).

Also, Gen 3 revisited sea and sky after Gen 2 already did them.

I'll not mention the "Sonic Cycle", but we all know it.  And yeah, Aldo was pretty much right-on.

I'll take level design as it comes, though.  What I'm waiting for are three features:
-Tails
-Knuckles
-Super Sonic in stage replays

Any game which lacks these has no business being called STH4.

The people were the ones I meant as being tricked.
You say that as if I was discussing someone else.

When I was talking of "corruption", I was not talking about Copy X's own character but rather Copy X's ability to corrupt the masses, to convince others that he is right, as we observe with the Big Four.  They're freaking HEROES and they're willing to slaughter innocents on their superior's say-so.  That's what makes Copy X dangerous, I don't believe that effect stopped there.  I don't buy that the entire general public of Neo Arcadia was "tricked".  You honestly think they believe that the 'roids in the camp are the same as the Mavericks who dropped a space colony to nearly annihilate the planet?  I sincerely doubt that.  More likely, between propaganda and the fact that they're reaping the benefits, they don't care.

Or as Zero put it: "What value is there in the justice that complacent humans seek?"

I don't think living while tricked by a madman is worse than being dead.
I guess that was a bad choice of words on my part.  Not so much "tricked" as "corrupted".  When you're tricked you're still one of the good guys, you just don't know what you're doing.  When you're corrupted, you're fully aware of what's going on and some twisted sense of logic convinces you that it's okay anyway.

That's the difference.  Copy X attacked the very nature of the people, in the name of peace.  Most evil kind of person there is if you ask me.  Weil just wanted them to suffer; evil yes, but it's the simple, straightforward kind of evil.  Far easier to recognize and eliminate.
