Gaming / Re: Sonic Classic Collection
« on: February 16, 2010, 02:09:08 AM »
Having already emulated Sonic 1 on DS, I don't think it's terribly significant.  Certainly not as much so as playing Super Mario World on a GBA screen, anyway.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles is available~ ^^
And therefore, the existence of this collection is justified.

It's a rumor with an online petition.  Which is the online equivalent to a business card (To quote Robert De Niro, "There's a real [tornado fang]ing achievement.").  I'm sure it won't happen, and yes I'm glad it won't, since music is something Sonic Team tends to actually do right.

I'm pretty much a free win for all y'all at this point.
You'd better be prepared to back that up, because I have only 2 lifetime wins on WiFi in TvC. >U<

Anyways, I too, will take this opportunity to enter all the updated codes into TvC on my end.

It is.  I have no idea what possible connection one may draw between Bon and a generic green robot.

And Frag, if you're going to bother looking into Japan-only stuff, you should be getting yourself equipped with Namco X Capcom.  You would then know who Baby is, or more importantly, who he isn't (plus it happens to be a frikkin' awesome game).

Rockman Series / Re: Your favourite and least favourite Megaman game
« on: February 13, 2010, 05:52:59 PM »
I think taking a thread like this on a by-the-series basis would be a lot easier.  But for now:

Favorite: MegaMan Legends 2
Visuals, voice, music, challenge, story, pyromania, lots of unique bosses, and most importantly, the Bonnes.  What is not to love about this game?

Least favorite: MegaMan Xtreme 1
Bringing the X-series to GBC was an admirable effort, and I am a sucker for nostalgia, but what sense is there in cramming bits and pieces of two SNES games together on inferior hardware with virtually no original content?  Attempting to write replays into the story wasn't the most seamless move, either.  The capsules suck and the instruments are ear-splitting.  I am, however, thankful for two things about this game.  One, that it got Sensei to draw the X1 armor (which is badass beyond all sane reasoning).  Two, that it spawned a sequel which is infinitely more awesome in every way.

Cool stuff.

We all WISH NSMB had that large a cast.  Safe bet it's Party, especially when you look at how short Toad is.

Doesn't Albert have the ability to use A-Trans, the very reason why Model A is able to use it?
ZX Advent actually doesn't elaborate on that, despite Albert's promise to do so.  As Zan mentioned, Japan differentiates between the two A-Transes ("Trans On" and "Shin Trans On").

It was never actually stated which A-Trans is the original, although the nature of Biometal (as Zan described above) leans in Model A's favor.  Consider also, that A-Trans is useless without the ability to obtain data.  Model A can do so on its own, while Albert, lacking any combat abilities, relies on data fed to him through Model W.  Albert is, furthermore, no stranger to copying Biometal abilities, as his final form utilizes attacks from all 6 of Ciel's Biometals, in addition to Model A's Homing Shot and Chronoforce's Time Bomb.

That's a valid point which RDW already touched on.  A Sonic obstacle course is arguably BETTER suited for 3D due to the concept of depth perception.  Problem is, Sega isn't willing to render that much scenery.  At least not without forcing you to replay it 10 times to unlock something.

So, aside from the sea of Zero users online (who didn't see this coming from a mile away?) is it just me or do they all kind of... suck? I mean, I use Zero too, sure, but these guys can't even do an air combo and are too busy trying to dash around or spamming "shippuga."
Wow.  I actually feel a lot better.  For as badly as I suck at fighting games I made sure to learn how to air-combo once I unlocked Zero.

And honestly, if you're going to spam a projectile, why would you not be spamming Trigger's Machine Gun? :P

Like we haven't had this discussion a million times...

One also needs to consider what Albert's plans for his backup were.  I'll point out that there is strong reason to believe that the failed mind control with Grey falls in line with what's going on with the Big Four's hosts (Grey had red eyes as the other four do, but they faded; there are four other capsules in his room as well).  If such is true then it renders the will of the Biometal irrelevant to Albert's plans, which would make a lot of sense, therefore the soul of a Biometal would be valued solely for its combat abilities.  Besides the obvious fact that Albert's soul is elsewhere, Albert has no known combat abilities without the use of Model W.

If you try to write it all off as one giant coincidence, then you need to ask why Albert's "copy", who bears no resemblance to his character, appearance, or abilities (save A-Trans) whatsoever, rebels against not only him but his entire philosophy.

Adventure and Adventure 2 were very focused in one direction (with a few walls), and between the Rail Grinding and those "On-Rails" segments, it provided a moderately satisfying experience akin to the 2D games.
See, here's the thing, you said earlier that Sonic is "2D only", but I don't acknowledge the notion that a 3D game is not truly 3D if you're not in a sandbox.  "Point A to Point B" platforming does work in 3D, as the Adventures did it, and also the bonus stages of Super Mario Sunshine did it.

Could you recreate SA2's Final Rush in 2D?  Sure, you can re-interpret anything.  Would it be half as awesome?  Not likely.

- The team didn't know how to animate Phoenix's legs, so they considered having him in a drivable desk, but then ditched the whole idea for the character
Not only is that hilarious to imagine in TvC, but I'm wondering what other implications a "drivable desk" could have.  Suppose they did a Namco X Capcom sequel and had him driving Maya around as a passenger?  I can only imagine what kind of Multiple Assault they could whip out.

Sounds a lot like that "Peach not playable in NSMB Wii, because Nintendo can't animate dresses" bit. ^^;
She played just fine in the Smash Bros games and Mario USA, so why not in NSMB Wii? XD
Not to mention HER DRESS WAVES AS SHE FALLS IN THE ENDING.  I dunno, maybe they were worried about how she'd slide on hills?

I think the more pressing question is why Daisy wasn't invited to Peach's birthday party.  That [sonic slicer]. O:<

somewhere in this world (not japan, obviously), there's a person in a deep, deep depression because his/her copy of TatsuCap doesn't have Super Kobun Counting Action...

Granted, but consider what Flame was responding to.  A "Classic Skin" on Sonic doesn't fix any of that.  There will probably be a million reasons to complain about the so-called STH4, but I don't see Sonic's eye color and buckles as being one of them.

Hey, the clash of play styles is what makes character selection so interesting.  The only problem is when certain parts of the game are much too hard for one of the characters, which is why some people didn't like MegaMan & Bass.
I'm referring to when the difference is so drastic as to warrant a different level design.  A "true" Sonic level design, assuming of course Sega will actually do a decent job of putting their money where their mouth is, includes a lot of stunts that I don't see as fitting for Mario.  Granted, with Amy doing loop-de-loops, Sega is pretty loose on that point, but still.

Heck, for that matter I don't think it'd work very well the other way around, either (referring to the "Sonic in SMG2" rumor above).  2D Mario is pretty basic platforming and friendly to a wide variety of characters, but 3D Mario is about sandbox fetch-questing at a lax pace while you drool over the environment.  That's not a play style that Sonic belongs in.  Though, I must admit, I'd be curious to see the press's reaction if that ever actually happened.

Longer answer, same conclusion.  Port-specific perks do happen, but for something of that magnitude, there'd have to be something else to counter-balance the other versions.

This is of course ignoring the whole clash of play styles.  Mario hasn't run on ceilings in normal gravity since he was in diapers.

Bear in mind that Brawl is 2-4 players whereas TvC is strictly 2.  I think some improvement in lag is to be expected when you're never splitting the connection 3 or 4 ways.

But yeah, if the server's bogged down, you're screwed and your connection speed can't help you.

It's a forum where we argue over a shota in blue spandex created by an old man who has a little girl doing house chores.
You should know better than to expect us not to care about little details.
Well, Sato, Flame pretty much nailed it.  However I will add, in the words of Sheldon Cooper, "If you're going to mock me, at least get your facts straight."
Shippuuga only hits once in X4, doesn't it?
No.

I don't see how it's *AT ALL* a stretch.  The blade color change (it's actually pink, not purple; I was just quoting Pringer) is the giveaway.  Do you know of any OTHER pink-bladed dashing attack?  Or any other reason the blade should be changing colors on an individual attack basis, for that matter?

his decisions were repeatedly questioned by Harpuia
This is actually a good reason for me TO consider Weil's influence very much a factor.  The Big Four never questioned MKI.  No matter how extreme his methods he never gave them a reason to doubt that his first priority was defending humanity.

Between the slurred speech and the complete blindness to the danger which Weil presents, I don't buy that some manner of mental foul play was not involved in MKII's resurrection.  Offering Weil forgiveness is one thing, but moving him up to 2nd-in-command?  Senseless.  I'm not saying it relieves him of responsibility, but I would say that it makes his actions an inaccurate representation of Copy X MKI's character.  MKI prided himself on succeeding where "other" legendary heroes had failed, I don't think he would have run crying to Omega when he was on the ropes, as MKII did.  Nor do I believe that MKI would fire a missile into his own residential district.  Harpuia, at least, did not believe he was capable of such, and I see no reason to question that judgment.

I know that in MML2 they tell the story of how the Megamen included have the ability to turn themselves into Carbon based lifeforms
...what in the blue hell are you talking about?  The only other character with the title "MegaMan" in the Legends series is Juno, from L1, and neither he nor Trigger are seen to transform (although Juno plugs himself into a second body, his actual form does not change).

I'm guessing I'd better start from the beginning here.  "Carbons" in Legends is what the people of Elysium call the people of Terra (Earth).  The entire population of the planet was in fact artificially created, they themselves just don't know it.  Trigger is not a Carbon but is similar enough to them that he passes for one, to the point where neither he nor his adopted family notice anything odd beyond his understanding ancient languages (which he takes notice of in L1 upon opening the Main Gate).  He was found as a baby by Barrel, and he is seen in L2's opening wearing normal clothes, so yes the armor is just armor.

Trigger is one of Elysium's people, more specifically a Purifier Unit (their equivalent to a Maverick Hunter).  In asking whether or not Trigger is a robot, you kind of need to define the term "robot", since the last known "true human" (according to Sera) is the Master whom Trigger previously served, and he died long before Trigger was "reset", sealed, and found by Barrel.  Humanity in Legends is extinct.  Trigger is artificial, but is no more so than anyone else in the series.

Shippuga is Forward+Heavy.  It's real easy to whip it out if you're going for the Heavy (double-bladed) version of Hadangeki and screw up the command.

Hadangeki is a purple slash attack

Hadangeki is the saber wave.  The purple slash attack is Shippuga (from X4), and is not counted as a special attack in TvC.
