I have to endure the hell they call Sunset Colloseum more. Oi.
I'm more concerned with what a painstaking task it is to get the Rayquaza battle pass.  Those who already have it (and have not since deleted some passes) CANNOT exchange Friend Passes, which probably attributes to the general stinginess you find online.

You can't "waste" an HM, it's infinitely reusable.  Furthermore, although unlikely, it is possible to use vs-grade 'mans in gameplay.  All you have to do is either EV train ahead of time (and pray someone can trade you the Power- items), or invest in a lot of stat-reducing berries when you're done.

Inevitably you wind up with an "HM whore" or two.

They're a pain, what with being magically unlearn-able unless you bring it to some mind-warping man in some city.
From a gameplay standpoint, it's necessary to prevent you from trapping yourself.  Suppose you lack Fly, you fight somebody on an island, and forget Surf?  Or you forget Strength in the middle of a cave?

Hm, you know, if they were to make HMs usable by the trainer directly, I think Teleport would have to replace Fly.  It'd be pretty weird for a disc to enable kids to soar through the air.

Well...they sure made him benevolent.

I still say Mewtwo needs Rocket Armor.  I mean, Latios/Latias have their broken item, so why not something to restore Mewtwo's special defense to its former greatness?

I'm playing this game right now. It's worthy of the perfect scores it's getting.
Thank God for those orchestras and particle effects, eh?

Well, I ordered this online with slowass shipping for the sake of GameStop's "$20 off a future order" shpiel.  In the meantime I never 100%-ed Galaxy1, and I have Endless Ocean Blue World and Metroid Prime 2 to tear through, so there's PLENTY to keep me busy.

I mean, I would think that anybody here who reads and/or interjects with any number of Zan's "exposition/scholarly" topics on this very forum would get that sort of thing by now.
Discussions between Zan/me/Marshmallow Man are about storyline theory and implications, translated sources, and localization errors.  This is about one's personal opinion as to gameplay quality.  There's a world of difference.  And yes, I rant about gameplay quality as much as anyone (watch me rip apart X5).  One can easily say "I don't know why you bash such-and-such" having fully read your posts and simply not agreeing with your logic as to what does and doesn't constitute an enjoyable game.  That's the way personal opinion works.  As such, there's no real point in asking them to read a 10-40 page rant.  Especially not on Sonic, which God knows has been torn apart from every possible angle over the years.

Eggman's levels were fine. He handled well enough. It's when you got to Tails and realised how [tornado fang]ing terribly he managed to handle that it was like "Why god why?!"
I kinda agree with this except I don't see a difference in how they handle.  To me it's just bad character management: Tails may be a handy man but he is not a mirror to Eggman.  He doesn't sit on his butt and let machines do the work for him when it comes to adventuring.  Gameplay-wise, I don't have a problem with Tails in SA2, I just feel that from a story/concept standpoint shoving him in a walker was a lousy choice.

Secret Rings is a great game but it's not very pickup-and-play friendly.  The controls are a tad awkward and obtaining any respectable rank involves a lot of track memorization.  I like it a lot, I just find it difficult to return to after a long absence.  It has some awesome boss fights, though.

Sonic '06 I have not played.  But as far as crapass Sonic Team efforts go, I cannot imagine it possibly being any worse than NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.  I don't think I've ever looked at new-age Sonic the same way again after that atrocity.

That's no excuse, in my opinion. If you're going to subscribe to the "tl;dr" mindset, then you really have no place to say such things like "I dunno why you're ragging on this game so bad..." and etc. It should be a basic "net-iquette" thing.
That's an exceedingly high demand to make of a response to a 40 page thread.

Honestly, that kind of attitude is why I hesitate to attempt to "break in" to other boards, such as MMX9.

Yeah, Defog was completely unnecessary, good thing because I never taught it to anything >_> And I disagree about the other statement, Fly is good for ingame, and Waterfall/Strenght/Rock Climb is quite decent if your pokemon is a physical attacker, Whirlpool on the other hand...did they really need to bring it back? ::)
Waterfall is only useful NOW because of the 4th Gen special split.  In that way, you're correct, but in the last two generations, it was worthless.

Fly, for in-game, yes it works.  Appreciated, even, due to the frequent lack of Flying type attack access.  Against actual humans it's junk.  2-turn moves invite a switch (why oh WHY can't they skip the recharge for a successful Hyper Beam finish like they used to?).  And even in the in-game you have to pray your 'man stays healthy.

Strength is worthless next to Return and Body Slam.

Rock Climb is nice for the Confusion side-effect, but there's no reason its accuracy shouldn't be higher.  It's also redundant, type-wise, since the HM list already includes Cut and Strength.

Yes but I'm talking only about HMs ingame, I'm not talking about the metagame since I know there are better options. I'm just saying that for moves that you're forced to use they're not too bad.
If it's inferior, it's inferior.  By all means, Strength is passable, yes.  But whether you're against a human or a CPU doesn't change the fact that it's an inferior attack strength to your other options.

I'm utterly convinced that the "Sonic cycle" is perpetuated by the fans every bit as much of not more than it is by Sonic Team.  There is no consistent view within the Sonic fanbase about what the ideal Sonic game should be (listen to Ben and me talk about Super forms, I dare you), only that from 2003 onward it hasn't happened.  Furthermore, having actually played Black Knight, a game which many both fan and press have torn apart, I found it to be an excellent quality title, in more than a few ways improved over Secret Rings, especially in control (good riddance, Brake button).  About the only problem I have with it is that the second Arthur fight sometimes drags for seemingly no reason.

I hate the fact, that there's so many bullshit levels with Tails/Eggman and Knuckles/Rouge one after another, and so little Sonic/Shadow ones.
I love SA2, but there is no denying that for the speed freaks it is a quality over quantity thing.  ESPECIALLY the Dark story, although why one would expect Shadow to get more focus than Eggman is beyond me.  But in terms of play time he did get shafted.

With Sonic things are a little better.  There's a bit of a dry spell from Green Forest up until ARK, but otherwise, I think you see him a good amount of time.

X / Re: favorite special weapon in all of X series

Twin Slasher.  Add in X4's helmet upgrade (best of the series), and you have infinite use of half-screen machine gun waves.  It's awesome.

X1- The Twin Dragon Purple Shot of Death, that you get from the arm upgrade.
CAST OFF THE MHX PROPAGANDA!!!

It is a TRIPLE SHOT, PLUS SHOCKWAVE, and not one twinge of energy less.

For how ridiculously over-obsessed with design functionality Yoshikawa was, he couldn't figure out that the two mini-barrels on the buster are a supplement and not an alternate. -AC

Rockman Series / Re: Your easiest and hardest Megaman Game
« on: May 22, 2010, 06:58:38 AM »
Fighting GutsMan with the Buster only takes too long though. BombMan doesn't even want to deal with you, so you get his weapon almost right away. But it doesn't matter just so long as you get the Magnet Beam before IceMan's stage.
IMHO fighting GutsMan buster-only is a lot more convenient.  Hyper Bomb's delay just makes it feel cumbersome, although it's certainly not as bad as Crash Bomb, given how little Guts Man actually moves.

I take the same order as Vix.  But I must say, ruling out pause physics abuse (something I consider cheap, hence my general distaste for 9's time attacks) 1's fortress bosses are damn evil.  That's what makes it the hardest of the series to me.

MMPU took an interesting route with that.  The fortress bosses are pretty watered down, to say nothing of the stage layouts.  But the RM rematches...hell.  You get the more "modern" 8 teleporter room, except with no recovery, ever.  I don't know who thought that up.

I'm waiting for them to take the Mystery Dungeon approach and just use the HM itself to travel regardless of whether or not you taught the move.  Besides Surf, HM moves in general tend to be crap.  Say what you want about Flash, but Defog was a new low.

"Fan input" isn't all that confidence-inspiring if you ask me.  The problem is that every fan has their own idea on how to "fix" Sonic and they generally all blow.

Me, personally, I'm just hoping they add a little more pizazz to Super Sonic.  Some kind of trail effect (star-bursts, after-images, whatever) and a more unique theme music would be nice.

2439

Judging by the placement of that gun, what does it look like to you? Seriously.
I'd say an outie belly-button.  Maybe I'm over-thinking my robo-anatomy, but when you look at the waist as your reference point, you can't really have a [ray splasher] on tank treads unless it's scraping against the floor.

I also want to add in that the Nightmare Zero jig was just a failed attemped to get Zero's DNA since the DNA that Gate got was only so much that he could do with it.
Not at all, Gate in fact insisted that he did not need Zero's body.  Not to mention High Max at first surpassed even X.  The Nightmare is Gate's attempt at manipulating Reploids worldwide, Nightmare Zero is simply part of it.

I still haven't fought Burnerman as Mega because the instant-death napalm section is almost impossible to complete as him.
You know, I never had a problem there.  Certainly no more so than I did as Bass against that worm miniboss.  Guess that makes me feel big.  *shrugs*

2443
...I sincerely hope you are referring to playing as X.  Because as moronic as Zero's boss AI is, you at least have the excuse of Shin Messenko being difficult to dodge without jumping over his head, and fairly frequently spammed.  Fighting UA X is a cakewalk, I've stalled against him long enough to force the music to restart.  Twice in one battle.

PBR's inability to switch DS games has me really aggravated.  If I ever want to adjust my team, I either have to trade them back to my Diamond version, or say goodbye to my progress.  O:<

It's a shame, 'cuz I really enjoy my custom trainer and catchphrases...  They really ought to make those standard in the main titles.

2445
I never had any real trouble traversing MM&B as Rock.  In fact the bosses are generally easier with him thanks to the charge shot.  However, I will say, the battle with King's air ship does feel a little cheap (though not as much so as, say, Burst Man) due to the fact that it's basically impossible to either prevent or recover from damage knockback.  Bass's double jump gives him more leeway, but Rock, even with extra platforms, is a sitting duck if struck in mid-air.

...I consider Mega Man & Bass to be "bad" because the gameplay just reminds me of how flawed Mega Man X6 was. -_-
*UPPERCUT!!*

Sorry, reflex action.  I know X6 isn't approachable, but that makes it hard, not flawed.  There's a difference.  Flawed would be X5, when nobody stopped to consider if Zero could get the Life Ups, or if someone might actually want to try Gaia Armor before all 8 bosses are defeated.

2446
It's more of an indirect hit weapon. But, even including that knowledge, the weakness chain is all over the place; it's more effective on QuickMan than FlashMan.
I didn't say "not strong", I said, "not practical".  The delay between impact and explosion for indirect attacks is too long to aim it reliably, not to mention the obvious slow-down with time elapsed to damage done; for any such boss you're better off picking a different weapon.

Quote
I honestly think that X5 should never have shown the second set of stages until after the Enigma firing. There's little to no plot excuse to enter these stages beforehand, other than to label the Hunters as pricks that kill innocents over items they don't need yet.
Perhaps story-wise that is true, but X5 has enough issues with item and armor availability without restricting stage entry.  Plus it's frustrating for those players whose special weapon focus is more on general usefulness than on boss weaknesses, if they have their eye on one of the later four (though I doubt that's terribly likely in X5).

Dunno.  I still see department stores selling it at the usual retail price point.  I guess brick-and-mortar video game stock moves slowly these days, because if you search on Amazon they do have new copies yet, but they're more expensive.

When it's something like say Mario Kart Wii though, where the items are a bit on the broken side, I admittedly get frustrated when I can go from 1-3 to 8-12 in no time flat, and all I get is like... a single mushroom to catch up :P
Mario Kart Wii is MAJOR overkill, for a couple of reasons.  It's not just there being more broken items, it's also that 12 karts means more of them on the field, that the 150cc AI is positively brutal, that even perfect scoring your way through that may not get you the letter grade you need to unlock [parasitic bomb] (at this point I deem hacking infinite Star Mans to be acceptable), and that when somebody rams a stopped kart they simply push it aside without consequence, meaning whenever you get hit there's a good chance that a passing kart will ram you off the track.

Oh yeah, and they may have removed snaking, but the bikes are basically legalized snaking.  And what do karts have by comparison, the orange boost?  How often do they even have the chance to use that?  So naturally, instead of everyone picking Dry Bones and going for the most simplistic course, they pick a bike and go for the most simplistic course.  Doesn't fix much.

Huh? Didn't use a TTar...

I thought the Heracross/Latios combo would take out Lapras or Palkia.
They probably would have.  I sincerely doubt Ice Shard would 1HKO on only a 2x weakness.  But Latios' Dragon Pulse will, and he and his sister are the fastest of Dragons.  No Dragon trainer worth their foot will engage Latios without something to boost Speed in their favor. Had I thrown Palkia/Lapras against them, I'd have probably switched to Steelix/Rotom anyway.

They still came up with their team, and they still won because they know how to use them. What's the difference? Is hatching like fifty eggs to get one with good IVs that important to you that you're against people skipping it?
I personally don't mind Pokesav as long as it's used responsibly.  No hacking max IVs, Hidden Powers, or whatever.  But in terms of EV training (which is nothing but grinding against the appropriate opponent w/ appropriate item; I did it the long way in Diamond's earlier days) and attacks (TM limits mainly; breeding Egg Moves is simple enough), it's very handy.  The tremendous amount of time it takes to ordinarily prepare, and the gamble it is to use a non-buyable TM if you change your mind, make experimenting in-game extremely difficult.

That being said, Shoddy has introduced a mentality where people simply punch in all the invisible numbers they want without regard to practicality.  Max IVs everywhere and Hidden Power as the be-all end-all to special type variance.  That, I do not appreciate.
