I believe I said "item selection", didn't I?

Speaking of "weapons", though, there is one thing beyond the pure gameplay of it all.  Presentation-wise, every game since Double Dash has failed on the same point: Shell impacts.  Nintendo, if you want to get serious about the next Mario Kart, I DAMN WELL expect to hear something akin to a frikkin' cannon going off whenever I am hit with a shell, along with my character spinning/flying wildly through the air in the fastest most completely disorienting way possible.  THAT, my friends, is how you do Mario Kart, and it's what made the SNES/N64 games so damn awesome.

1. We have seen no bikes.
2. We have seen no snaking.
3. We love it.

TAKE NOTES, NINTENDO.

Seriously, Wii had an awesome character selection and a great online setup (besides TIMING YOUR MENUS BEFORE YOU EVEN JOINED A DAMN MATCH), but in terms of item selection, AI, and bump physics, it was a total bust.  And wheelie boosts, no matter how cool they sound, are simply wrong.

I hope that when you drive through the castle, you get to jump into a painting.
Who DOESN'T hope for that? 8)

Given Nintendo's track record, even 2GB (I recall seeing that speculated somewhere) would be a massive leap.

Honestly, the whole concept doesn't sound too likely.  It sounds like somebody who knows nothing about gaming got their carts and their DLC mixed up.

BTW, Nintendo's specs for 3DS confirms the screen resolution going up.  We're now at 320x240 for the touch screen and 400x240 (per eye) for the widescreen, this being up from the current DS's 256x192.  240 = half the height of SDTV = Resolution of PS1 MegaMan games (I know, pipe dream, but still).

So, PB would mean a sort of vertically interlaced image?

How would your eyes not notice only half the pixel columns are there?
With Nintendo's recently released specs we now know that the answer is some horizontal dot pitch trickery.  The system is designed, and screens appropriately sized, to render a 400x240 image, but since a different set of pixels is sent to each eye, the actual screen resolution is 800x240.

The music, the designs, the flight that even looks mind-boggling in 2D (can't wait to see it on the system), and the dead evil sexiness of Medusa.  There is NOTHING to not love about this game.  I must have it.

My ravenous reptile obsession demands the awesomeness of a green 3DS!

Sadly, Nintendo tends to back out of their initial color selection when it comes to hardware (remember the old rainbow of Wii's?).  I'm hoping they break that pattern, though.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about Sky Sword's visuals.  I mean, I really, REALLY, don't want to sound like one of those "real is brown" people, but I happened to like Twilight Princess.  On the other hand, Link lives in clouds in this one, so I could see how this would fit.

But hey.  FRIKKIN' SWORD BEAMS!!!  That's all I need to know.

Medusa looks DAMN hot!  Like, Evil Hot!
I don't have the first damn clue how a woman with snakes for hair looks that awesome, but nevertheless I must agree. 8)

The Annual PA E3 Comic.
That may be the funniest 3 frames I have ever seen. XD  Nintendo sure served the hell out of everyone this year, eh?

It looks impressive enough, though I am rather ticked at Sega being a cocktease with Tails in their initial trailer.  I really can't describe how much his continued neglect irks me.  (I guess I'm feeling particularly lousy about that right now because I picked up Rivals 2 looking for relief, and it turned out to suck).

It’s pretty much the same people who worked on Sonic Unleashed.
DAMN!

Ah well.  It looks to play better, and that's important.

In all honesty, applying 3D effects to 2D games does strike me as mildly gimmicky.

But what the hell, we all know I'd buy it anyway! 8)  NES Punch-Out!! with enemies flying across a 3D ring when KOed, that I'd like to see.  It's the one thing the Wii Punch-Out!! lacked (well, that and late-game opponents who can actually be beaten by reaction time rather than memorization).

The shpiel with Albert is that the Game of Destiny, no matter the outcome, spreads enough despair to awaken Model W.  Straightforward enough, I'd say.  The only way you get a Roulette out of that is if you go into Grey and Model A as Albert's backups, but that part of the plan blew up in Albert's face anyway, since neither were necessary and his own backup surpassed him.

I still really wish there was a Vent/Aile mode to that game.

Some alterations.
Some other notes I thought I'd add.

Z1's translation error of "Z-Buster" was removed.  The weapon now correctly reads as "Buster Shot" in all four games.

You know how in Z2 the remaining Guardians were given extra descriptors with their name? (Fairy Leviathan, Fighting Fefnir, Sage Harpuia)  Well, the ZC manual offers up "Hidden Phantom".

Curiously, despite touching up various odds and ends, they left in the mugshot error in Z3 before going to Area X-II.  You know, Zero talking to himself about where to strike to stop Neo Arcadia's advance (pretty obvious to me that was supposed to be Rouge).

Also, a nice touch, the in-game soft-reset differentiates between where you are.  During gameplay it returns you to that game's title screen, and during a specific game's title screen it returns you to the main ZC title screen.

2312
OoT3D would be nice since I've held off on tracking down a used GCN disc (I am NOT getting it on Wii Ware due to the Stone of Agony being worthless).  And one can never argue with SF64.

Lots of juicy 3DS tidbits, there.  Oddly enough the game notifications have me intrigued; could this lead to an ability for Wi-Fi friends to "chime" you when they want to play, similar to Mario Kart DS except working even if you're playing other games?  That'd be cool.
(and seriously, why the hell was that feature not used more often, anyway?)

This is um... yea. '>.>
DON'T DO THAT!!! >w<

Oh man, hilarious.  Better be DAMN SURE nothing is able to accidentally hit the console while playing (as stupid as it sounds, I'm sure many of us have our stories; I for one broke the lid to my Wii's GC ports that way).

However, there are two still there even with one gun out, which may still mean they might be decorative, or even hollow.
There could be fins for the guns to mount on?  *shrugs*

And yes, Copy X may have some "inconsistencies", but the transition between MMZ1 and 3 gave some time for an upgrade. Besides, it's hard to convey a head sprite to match all the curves of a helmet.
Sprites?  You're looking too hard.  Compare mugshots to cutscene art.  You can literally find inconsistencies within a single screenshot of MMZ3 without requiring any outside reference.

Also the inconsistent Z-Saber sprites for Z2 kinda go without saying.  In this case, they wouldn't even have to make new sprites, since the correction already exists for Z3 and Z4.  Some hit-box correction may be in order, though.

(with the exceptions to spike pit blockers on easy mode.)
That's actually not new.  Z1 had a cyber-elf which blocked all spikes in the game.  In later games this was toned down so that spikes remain but are simply made damaging rather than lethal.

Easy Scenario is literally Ultimate Mode in Z1, Z3, and Z4, plus a slight dialogue expansion in Z4 to explain the fact that Elf restrictions mean nothing.  The only game in which it may be considered "new" feature-wise would be Z2, due to Z2 having no true Ultimate Mode.

Oh man, a list like this could go on for MILES.  But I'll just go with the first to come to mind:

1. Straight Ahead (Z4)
2. Zero's theme (X5)
3. Intro stage (X2/Xtreme2)
4. Top Man (3)
5. Wily Stage 3 (3)

Having been playing catch-up today with all of Nintendo's E3 announcements (and leaks), I can describe my most prominent thoughts of this year's show in four words:

MUST!  PLAY!  KID ICARUS!!!

Mom, can you tell me the appeal of Rabbids? It looks so wacky during commercials... but people rave about it. Tell me moar?
People love the Rabbids basically because they're whacky.  No matter what possible topic you think up, they can make a crazy game out of it.

I like the concept of the upcoming Raving Rabbids, but it'd have been nice if they told you something, you know, about gameplay.  Trailers alone work for franchises that have a consistent play style, but the Rabbids could be anything.  Ah well, guess we'll find out in due time.

I had such a terrible eye for detail back then, which I can only blame on NES MegaMan box art looking absolutely nothing like him (Captain N didn't help any either).  I used to think the X1 box image was some artist screwing with the concept of the Shotgun Ice colors.  Then when *I* found the body upgrade (my older brother insisted there was nothing up there; shows what he knows), it finally clicked.

I always thought Fefnirs "wings" were his guns, mounted on the back when not held in hand.
Those of you equipped with MegaMan Zero Official Complete Works, please turn to page 43 and note the top right image.
:cookie:

Fefnir's sprites most likely show a fin because of his only using one gun when not activating one of his EX Skills, thus the counterpart remains mounted on his back.

If you're going to look for MMZ artwork inconsistencies, there are much easier places to start than Fefnir.  Such as Copy X's helmet.

In fact, they could have worked together to distribute System CIEL.
You know, that makes a remarkable amount of sense, given the whole energy crisis talk in the first game.

ZX / Re: The Official English Mega Man ZX manga

Please do.  I for one am actually a lot more interested in the Advent manga than the ZX manga (mainly for the fact that the ZX manga makes no effort to bridge the gap between the two players, something even pre-release anime clips at least attempted; and of course Model A's perv antics are always a plus).

I'm at a loss for "Zig" as well, besides maybe too much Zero Wing.

And the only time I ever recall hearing "Isis" in relation to MegaMan was in the Reploid Hunter Iris comic.

2323
Anyway, isn't this a friggin' MEGAMAN board? I thought you people were used to constant sequels that didn't change a thing. =P
Can't argue with that one.  I get when people want something new, but sometimes the opposite extreme can be just as ugly, degrading into what I refer to as sequel-phobia.  As is the case in every single IGN review of any established franchise on Wii which does not include "Galaxy" in the name.

Damn that moon, it'll stop at nothing to destroy the 3DS!

On Zelda rumors, these days I don't consider much of anything too outlandish for Nintendo (save for MMO's and voice chatting, anyway).  We'll just have to wait and see.

Gaming / Re: Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (Wii, PS3, 360, iPhone)
« on: June 13, 2010, 04:31:41 PM »
It's basically the guy talking about the upcoming E3 demo, how they're incorporated some but not all physics changes, that the iPhone version will have an exclusive stage or two, that the Special Stages will not be in the E3 demo and will have optional motion control on Wii and PS3, and that old bosses will have new attacks.  Nothing terribly significant.

I took notice in the gameplay footage, though, how rarely you see Sonic's "running at full speed" animation.  To me that's not very aesthetically pleasing, since it gives the impression that something's holding you back, but then Sonic's full-speed animation isn't terribly attractive either, so unless they're willing to redraw it I guess this is kind of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" thing.  Kinda like hearing X speak in X7.

Next 2D Sonic graphics designers need to take a long hard look at Brawl, if you ask me.  "You're too slooow!"

Wow, thanks for the lack of response on the issues that mattered, instead of caring the most about the interpretation of a basic, simplistic story in a game meant for kids. Jeez, I meant it as a side-argument, but it basically got the whole original argument to dissapear in your replies.
Flashy, I don't know if this RPM wall-of-text thing is new to you, but for the sake of sanity one typically lets go of issues they are either willing to concede or, more likely, do not consider terribly significant/productive in the first place.  More detail on that following my final quote.

You think Vader would have a place in the rebellion if he had survived? You think Axel would just join Sora and his friends in adventures if he had survived? You think... oh hell, not gonna list every single example. Here. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RedemptionEqualsDeath Knock yourself out.
TVtropes lists every fictional storywriting phenomenon known to man, including polar opposites to the one you gave me.

Vader is an interesting and extremely inaccurate choice, because the entire reason he was on the "wrong" side was because he felt he had no choice in the first place.  I know every fanboy and their dog objects to that aspect of the prequel trilogy, but it's the only way to make sense of Luke sensing good in a character which for the last two movies has appeared only evil.  Naturally, such is not the case with Shadow, he's fighting for vengeance, not because he was backed into a corner.

And what exactly is it that Shadow has done that rules him out as an "Earth Defender" if you will, anyway?  He never received any sort of publicity for his actions; the whole damn world thought he was Sonic, and Eggman was the one making threats on the monitor.  Only the players and Amy know of Shadow's actions, and if he has been redeemed in their eyes (God knows Sonic and co. are forgiving enough), nothing's stopping him.  That's a pretty damn sharp contrast to Vader, who strikes fear in the hearts of virtually all men on both sides.

Only because of fan-bitching, he was alive and well in the next game, and not fitting in AT ALL. And they kept trying to shove in more and more story, just to make up for it. "Amnesia! Aliens! Gerald was right! You're a team member with a jewel thief and a mass murdering robot! The ones who killed the only person who ever mattered to you are now your employers!" It's all worthless drivel which is just meant to feed the fan machine. Shadow's death FIT.
So while we're obsessing over criticizing one's discussion tactics, I'll take a shot with this:  You're trying to counter someone's problem with a character death, so you offer your problems with the character living.  The flaw to such an argument is that a character's life can take an infinite number of turns, and the mere fact that their life was handled poorly does not necessitate that he should not have been alive at all.  My core problem with Shadow's death, is that I do not consider a death of circumstance (and exceedingly poorly written circumstance at that) to be a death of necessity.  Nothing in your post addresses that.  You state that Shadow HAD to die, but you offer no reason as to why which has not previously been brought up in the discussion.  G.U.N., redemption, farked memories, we tackled all of that before.

For the record, however, I wish to state that it's not as if I don't have my own problems with the current version of Shadow's story.  Most notably the motivational speech from Gerald, which is exceedingly anti-climactic when we already know from SA2 that Gerald finds a reason to ignore whatever purpose he's trying to convey at that time.  Sonic and co. would have been much better candidates.  The entire point of ShTH's Last Story is that Shadow needs to stop looking to his past for his answers, and Gerald's message flies in the face of that.

As for more characters in a game, that have similar gameplay with a few differences? I'm perfectly okay with it. As long as the gameplay WORKS. In Black Knight, it's stuffing more layers of broken into a broken game, turning them into bullshit characters who do nothing to make the game better, and just add more layers of the derrivative factor that makes the gameplay unsuited for any kind of game, and completely unpolished from any point of view. But developers prefer to make more characters instead of making their damn games good.
This is the kind of segment I was talking about above, where if I was discussing this with anyone but you, I'd have not quoted this segment and simply let it go.  Why?  Because you're re-stating what you already said in previous posts, indicative that we have reached an impass.  One typically does not demand some acknowledgment of this kind of situation.

You did the same thing in your last post by citing the game's lack of AI which I had already responded to, along with your various other complaints which you had already made in previous posts.  Now if you feel the need to clarify your previous position, that's your own business, but whether I've noted any new information in that to be significant enough to warrant further discussion is my own.  I saw your gameplay arguments in your previous post as redundant, offering no information to me that I had not already gathered from your other posts beforehand.  You run the risk of that happening when you actually read what you're responding to.  As such, no response was merited from me.
