The "dungeon" of the Temple of Time is accessed through a separate portal in the Master Sword's room, if you recall, so I don't think that really counts.

And why does one Link get to explore it, while the other doesn't?
Because no Sage resided there and no obstacles to said Sages involved the Dominion Rod?

That's like asking why TP Link doesn't get to use the Temple of Time to return to his childhood.  It's a simple matter of circumstance.  The Master Sword is what's responsible in both cases.  And it's already well established that the reality-warping effects of your various Hyrulian artifacts may vary depending on what task the current era's Hero is charged with.  It's not as if Link could use the Ocarina of Time to warp back a few days during his journey to defeat Ganon.

Practically all continuity issues in the Zelda-series stem from plot of LttP and the NES games. They don't even fit comfortably with each other, let alone trying to connect it to all the new titles.

I mean, without the classic titles, we could all happily accept the 3D titles and Four Sword as separate continuities and we'd have no plotholes bigger than Vaati not exactly being sealed in the Four Sword in his origin title. However, as things are right now, all roads lead to LttP, but the bridge is out and will never ever be repaired.
At current the Master Sword and Triforce are about the only things mandating a link between LttP and the OoT branches.  Most story points these days may be linked to the Vaati arc, particularly Ganon himself, seeings how OoT Ganon is likely dead in both forks and FSA provides the origin of trident-wielding Ganon.  There are minor hiccups along the way, such as the ambiguity of Minish Cap's "Light Force", but we had comparable issues when it was just LttP-to-OoT.

The biggest problem, as I see it, lies with the original NES game.  Ever since the notion first came about that we start at OoT and end at LttP, the original LoZ has left us with one more Ganon death than we can account for, and no effort has been made to address that; unless we're left to simply assume that LttP's Ganon had escaped the seal prior, was killed, revived, and sealed again.  Overall, the original game's backstory has remained very self-contained, with no other title proving itself relevant to its setup.

Not a bad idea given that Mario World was probably the worst of the GBA ports.

I admit that an "agenda" red-flag comes up with the Appearance list ending at X5, but I believe their logic is that they are listing only games which feature remixes on the website.  So I wouldn't heckle them into removing any games from that; rather we ought to heckle them into remixing some post-X6 music. >U<

Likewise, I'd feel no particular obligation to base your profile on which games are featured.

I never said that it was Light's lab he was in; I merely mentioned it was around the same area. And the Rocky Mountains are huge; I said "in or around" which is a several hundred mile radius.
While technically permissible in light of X6, I still think the implication there can be very misleading.  Light doesn't really have anything to do with that statement and can thus be left out of it.  Assuming ZC's timeline (which was taken down) cannot be un-seen, there's a strong implication that the lab they found Zero in was the same one he woke up in.  To claim otherwise you'd have to really twist the timeline text around.

I don't doubt that some semblance of a timeline exists in Nintendo's minds, but I do think that they consider it something of a low priority.  And even if they are not willing to rewrite the order of the games; they are willing, and have, rewritten the various minor details which connect them.  They push the inherent sketchiness of history to its limits in order to tell the story that they want to tell with each game.  I mean, we could be here all day trying to figure out what in the hell all LttP details of the sealing war are supposed to refer to.  Even if we time-travel back to N64 days when we had 5 or so games to worry about, there are plenty of minor inconsistencies and a mountain of ambiguous points which can be brought against a direct OoT-to-LttP connection.  I'm certain that there is an intended game order, but I'm equally certain that Big N doesn't think much of altering a few details in order to make things fit.  Ganondorf himself is possibly the biggest example of this: As of OoT we had reason to believe in only one Ganon across all games.  These days, OoT's Ganon is apparently dead in both forks, while FSA establishes another origin of Ganon.

Because both temples look so much alike, amirite? 8D
Similar enough, I'd say.  The Temple of Time is an extremely simple layout; TP keeps the basic setup and simply adds staircases.  The "dungeon" of the Temple of Time is accessed through a separate portal in the Master Sword's room, if you recall, so I don't think that really counts.

As said earlier, compare all locations of the Master Sword.  Particularly Wind Waker's, since it branches from the same point as TP.

There's a myraid of OoT-to-TP references.  The possession of the Triforce parts and the six Sages for starters, in addition to CONSTANT references of a previous hero, who had both green and Zora tunics.

And who is Neko?
One of RPM's staff.
She's been snoozing for the last two months, it seems.

I'd like to see Punch-Out!! in 3D. One of those 8-bit games that really deserves effects to show Mac being knocked out of the screen. =P
Damn straight.  Although I'm more interested in seeing the various opponents zig-zagging through the air as they fall down.

What if they did Smash Bros. in 3D?  Imagine how the "bounce off the screen" KOs would look with the characters right in your face.

And oh yeah, Contra.  We have *GOT* to have Contra bases in 3D!

I kinda liked the GCN games for the fact that all Trainer battles were 2v2.  It was always my preferred format, introducing new strategies and bringing an overall faster pace.

I don't really see how 3v3 is going to work unless they introduce some mode-specific battle mechanics.  From a simple logic standpoint, once 2v2 has established how attacks behave with allies and multiple targets, 3v3 would only serve to weaken the single-target attacks that make up the majority of the game's arsenal.  So for that reason I am hoping that 3v3 will create its own unique mechanics rather than behaving as an expansion of the existing ones.

Anyone ever tell you that you can be an amazingly good sport when you're trying not to be?  ;)

You know, something that didn't occur to me earlier:

Quote
"The list of games in this collection included Mario Bros., Tennis, Super Mario Bros. The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Musasame, Punch-Out!!, Excitebike, NES Open Golf, Twin Bee, Super Mario World, Kirby's Adventure, Mega Man 2, Castlevania, Urban Champ, Kid Icarus, Yoshi's Island, and Smash Ping Pong."

Final Bowser in 3D = DO F*@#ING WANT.  Imagine what it'd be like for that background-aiming cursor to actually be usable.  I don't know if they'd go so deep as to position it midway through Yoshi's throwing arc, but if they did, it would be damn awesome.

Yeah, every ball has a chance.  I've successfully used the Heavy Ball on Lugia, who isn't really that heavy (being a bird and all).  And of course, my Cresselia is in a Heal Ball, for no reason other than I thought it'd look spiffy.

I kinda figured the "competing handhelds" thing would be a given, seeings how the Wii's VC has had it since launch day (ah, counting the weeks 'till Toejam & Earl, fun memories...).

With how much Nintendo dominated the handheld industry, I don't know how much popularity such games would carry, but it's not a bad idea.  I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Rockman & Forte WS, although the odds of Capcom taking the time to localize that are probably nill.

1- Not in a VC format, which is what we're discussing.
NO game has been brought to a handheld in VC format, thus the nature of the game in discussing a hypothetical handheld VC is irrelevant.  By that logic you just invalidated this entire line of discussion.

2- An "import" is something material which is brought from another country. VC titles do not fit into that standard. I was asking him to explain. As far as it isn't against the law, anything can be "imported", but it has to be brought from another country. Buying downloadable Hanabi Festival software online doesn't count as an "import". He never mentioned anything about cross-functionality.
Boy, we have a real battle of wits going on here.

Get equipped with: Dictionary

im·port
1.
to bring in (merchandise, commodities, workers, etc.) from a foreign country for use, sale, processing, reexport, or services.
2.
to bring or introduce from one use, connection, or relation into another: foreign bodies imported into the blood; foodstuffs imported from the farm.

Most people around here have heard the term "import" in that context (that is, application; not region) applied to data (Fire Emblem and Pokemon come to mind).  You are clearly not nerdy enough.

1. Console games being officially emulated on handhelds is something Nintendo was already doing back on GBA.

2. He said "legally imported".  Exactly where do you think they'd be imported from?  He's talking about cross-functionality between Wii and 3DS for Virtual Console titles.

On the latter point, as awesome as that would be, I wouldn't get my hopes up.  Nintendo hasn't been into solutions for transferring downloaded content between systems, and I haven't seen reason to believe that would change.  Further, as Reggie himself said, classic games on 3DS are expected to utilize the 3DS system capabilities, so the straight emulation of the VC is probably not all there is to it.

One of these days I need to download Majora's Mask so that I stop caring when the Shop Channel access is cut off...

Well, it was unusually quiet on the update front for a while; although this Sony-esque "do nothing but block stuff" strategy is starting to get annoying.  I just wait for the work-around before applying an official update.  Deleting title IDs is completely senseless; that's the equivalent of an antivirus blocking a filename.  And HackMii typically has a pile of unused exploits at the ready, so I doubt blocking their installer will do much.  It took well over a year before their previous exploit was even identified by anyone else in the hacking community, probably why it took Nintendo so long to patch it (seriously, when they're this lazy, you can't tell me they're doing jack [parasitic bomb] for research on their own end).

Quote
* IOS254 stubbed BootMii is deleted.
HA!  Wow.  Just, wow.  BootMii as an IOS does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except enable recovery (need for console keys makes copying data from another Wii impossible).  Anti-piracy my ass.

IIRC my Wii is set to block System Updates that come with new Discs anyways.
Yeah, one doesn't even have to alter their Wii's memory to do that; you can just load the game through Gecko.  Patching the system menu is just the more convenient way.

Posted on: June 22, 2010, 05:54:56 PM
Well, here's a bit of a predicament.  The 4.3 update prevents the Trucha Bug Restorer from working.  Now, at current I do exactly nothing that is relevant to that.  But, I happen to enjoy the occasional WiiRD code, and in going to test "always have charged attack" for MM10, I find out that for some God-forsaken reason Gecko requires a Trucha-bugged IOS to load Channels.

I have an unfortunate history of those "patched/custom" updates not wanting to work for me, for reasons I never really understood.  What to do, what to do....
