Volnutt is gonna use duct tape to get back from the moon!
XD  If only...

Seriously, though, that sounds like a Legends/Rabbids crossover.

Well, in a MegaMan game, and most especially the X-series, you're playing as characters who are infamous for growing more powerful as they fight.  In that context I find it only fitting.  I suppose, in a game where the focus is more on the journey than on the powering up, there would be issues.

The only thing that pisses me off about RPGs back in the day is the lack of a [tornado fang]ing map.
Oh jeez, I'd forgotten about that.  Dragon Warrior 2 still haunts me.

Well, the programmable shaders shpiel as stated at ThinQ already shows that the 3DS has access to some visual tricks that the Wii can't do.  Of course, system strength isn't exactly a single scale, so how it stands up overall, I guess we'll see.

In general, that doesn't bug me.  Boss rematches, done correctly, show how much you've grown since the beginning of the game.  But even if you have no problems with boss runs, they can still go wrong.  MMPU and ZXA's Hard Mode (DAMN YOU CHRONOFORCE) come to mind.

Octopus beat out Seahorse?  Blast!

Tough choice here.  Gravity Beetle is cool, but I think I'm going to go with Turtloid.  Ensuizan is one of the most wonderfully spammable skills that there is, after all.

We all want the prettiest display we can get.  Miyamoto himself wants his games to be in HD.  But one needs to stop and think about what is practical.

In all its history Legends has always been underrated.  HD development means higher cost, which Capcom would likely frown upon for what they at best see as a cult revival.  They barely approved a development team of 20 for a Classic-series revival, for crying out loud.

And call this console fanboyism if you must, but I think trying to push MegaMan on the "stereotypically hardcore" crowd represented by HD consoles is an exercise in futility.  Ever since the PS2 made gaming "cool", Capcom has been trying to push X, Classic, and Legends in their camp, both console and handheld, and it NEVER WORKED.  No matter how good the games are they don't get the recognition they deserve.  We don't need L3 turning into another MHX.  I'm not saying this just so I can play it; if need be I'll happily buy an XBox360 L3 disc and camp at my brother's house.  But I don't believe it's what's best for the series.  MegaMan is oldschool, whether it has an NES can of paint on it or not, and Capcom needs to get that through their heads.

BTW, Objection Man, no offense, but it sucks to have your hands.  I'm 6'4" and have never found a pair of work gloves that actually fit, and even I can play handhelds without cramping.

Some expansions to Brother Darkness's comments:

A.) You do realize that if the game was made to be that large, there'd be quite a hefty dev time for it, right? Metal Gear Solid 4, the only game that's so far using the max storage space of a blu-ray disc (IIRC), has most of that space dedicated to some ridiculously high quality sound direction and music. Those are the only things that are making the overall game so huge.
Truth.  Seriously, no game ever used anywhere *NEAR* 50GB worth of coding.  You're talking about bloated streamed media.  Recall that even the X-Box 360 is still using standard DVDs.  We naturally expect voice acting in Legends, but I'm still looking for a game and not a movie.

Using 2GB carts puts the 3DS slightly above the storage capacity of a dual-layer UMD.  More than enough.  MHX threw in a half hour anime clip and a MMPU demo and still weighed in at less than a quarter of that.

B.) He said 3DS, not DS.
On that same note, the 3DS's visual capabilities are pretty awesome.  Not impressed by Kid Icarus's visuals?  (I'd say you're nuts, but...)  No reason you should be when you look
here
.  3DS specs were not finalized when Sakurai began work on Kid Icarus; hell he didn't even know the system would use 3D images.

Legends uses an anime-inspired style that doesn't really demand a lot of horsepower to feel right; even the PS2 can handle such a style rather competently (see MegaMan X Command Mission or the DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi series).  Surely the 3DS is more than capable.

I don't know when the hell that was, and neither does my replay archive.

Regardless, Team Multi-Mans are always fun.  If only the rest of the game's 2-player modes were online (Co-Op Events, SSE).

It depends on the server load.  I actually found today's matches to be surprisingly smooth, although some untimely lag did strike once or twice.

So that means Mario's Megavitamins will [tornado fang] it up?
If they're changing trajectory, damage, knockback, or any other such attack attributes, then yeah, I'd imagine.

Basically, aesthetic hacks are fine, they deal with data which is not shared between consoles.  But anything gameplay-relevant is going to make it impossible for your game to sync with the others, thus locking up and causing a disconnect (at least, this is what happens when attempting custom stages with players who aren't prepped for it).

Mash harder. Switch to your index finger if you need to; all those sections in Booster Forest can be beaten with just the regular buster. As for the question at hand... I've always thought of Axl as a shittier Bass. Nothing more, nothing less.
Well, character-wise they're nothing alike, and in gameplay I actually find Axl to be superior.  It's mainly MM10 that makes me feel that way, though.  Rapid-fire characters just suck in mid-air; more so as the enemies get smaller.  Axl's hover, and the fact that his firing direction is semi-analogue, work around that very well.

Actually both X and Axl can get 8 shots off on a boss without stopping.
Huh.  Never bothered to try that.  I guess Inti's games just had me in the mindset that rapid-fire is worthless (yet another hiccup to thank Inafune Rockman for).

If they're purely texture hacks then it shouldn't.  Some manner of functional hacks (moves and the like) will.  I know I've been playing with music hacks online and had no trouble.

Maybe that's why I didn't rust over as badly as I thought.  The ol' Punch-Out!! training theme for the online waiting room really helps get you psyched.

"Mac, you can do it zis time!"

Today was [tornado fang] weird. Worst part? Everyone's going to stop playing with me because I apparently didn't rust over as badly as everyone else.
Like hell I will.  From one pain in the ass to another, I'll Brawl you any time! 8)

LoL, oh spare me.  Toon Link is nothing to be feared.  He has trouble getting the final smash AND when he gets it, it sucks AND can be rolled out of.
Toon Link has obscenely long reach despite his small size, and the moves/priority to completely [tornado fang] over incoming attacks from directly above or below.  In your hayday I considered him the most annoying character in the game.  R.O.B. was a close second.

But hey, if you're sick of losing to people, that's what TEAM MULTI-MAN BRAWL is for!  I *STILL* never got that Peach/Yoshi team-up that I was always bugging you for.

Well, there are plenty of possibilities, I was just naming one.  If we wanted to get really obscure, you could tie him to the Erasure and Berkana, stealing DNA for advanced power-ups and all, and the "revival" of sorts that an outright copy allows.

Gate might be oddly convenient too, in light of the mysteriously-pulled ZC timeline.  If we are to hold that as valid, then we DO need some reason to re-investigate the Nightmare post-XCM.  Plus he's got the whole DNA-manipulation vibe covered in Metal Shark Player.

It's very well possible that even on Capcom's end, Axl's origins may not have been set in stone yet.  Certainly the little information that has been released still leaves that part of the story very open.

I don't think it would make sense from the perspective of virus immunity. X and Zero have their own perfect/near perfect virus countermeasures in response to the Roboenza incident.
It's not really a matter of immunity, though, rather it's a matter of setting Sigma up.  I mean, all implications at this point suggest that the Sigma Virus outlives Sigma himself anyway.  From Wily's perspective that's awfully convenient.

Axl has attributes of both X and Zero; variations of weapon copy and learning ability...
Duo, who is alien to the planet, has variations of weapon copy.  That's pretty much a mandatory part of being a playable character in the Classic/X series.  Since X5 Hunter Base has been taking a part in utilizing the data from defeated bosses, and it was established since his debut that Axl can transfer his copied DNA data to others, so I wouldn't read too much into Axl's version of VWS.  Especially since they haven't really established a consistent means as to how it works.  I don't see the "new gun for every boss" formula surviving forever.

As it is, I think it's almost appropriate to start giving Cossack more credit...
I don't object to Cossack having his own buried masterpiece, but I don't see Axl as being it.  According to Lumine, Copy Chips are made using old-model Reploid data, which means whoever is behind Axl was most likely living during the Maverick Wars.  You COULD twist those words around as applying only to "proper" New Gens, but then giving their chips radically different origins damages the validity of Axl referencing their viral immunity.

Alright then.

I still say the default guy looks way too much like the Dragon Warrior hero.

LOL @ spin-attacking a swarm of chickens.  I knew the game was a Zelda knockoff, but I didn't know it was that shameless.

Pansyism is mainly an issue in X7.  It is considerably less so in X8 and near nonexistant in XCM.  Heck, Zero throws worse fits in XCM than X does.

Infinite specials is nice, but they're all pretty redundant.  It's the same omnidirectional rapid-fire mold simply with different shot effects, kinda kills Axl's variety.  He is useful though, and I think in particular he owes a lot of that to his hover-while-firing mechanics.  That is EXTREMELY valuable for a rapid-fire character.  I grew to miss it a lot while playing as Bass in MM10 (MM&B is more permissible due to the larger character size in relation to screen size).

One thing I liked about the X7 Axl, though, was the G-Launcher.  It's like taking the Ultimate Buster and sticking it in a rifle.  Definite win.  It does make me want to hold onto the alternate-weapons shpiel.  I just don't think they should be the basis of all of his special weapons from bosses.

Rockman Series / Re: Who does every MM game have refight the bosses?
« on: July 04, 2010, 05:19:55 PM »
It's a good way to show you your skill growth in my opinion. At first you may have barely beat one at your best. Now you just beat them all consecutively. It's also a good way to help you work out what you've learned through the entire game experience. Things like weaknesses and so forth.
Truth.  In the later series it also demonstrates power growth (less true in Classic where you're mainly relying on just specials and E-Tanks).

Still, I think testing skill growth has its limits.  MMPU went VERY overboard, in a game that has no health reserves in the first place, offering absolutely no capsule drops in an 8-teleporter-room boss rematch.  Even if you buster-only-ed them the first time around, it's STILL insane.

Agreed.  And seriously, to hell with specials, NOBODY could ever call Hermes head + Icarus buster worthless.

Even by default, though, X stands up to Axl pretty well given the huge power of his charged shots and his mobility while firing.  Also, while Axl's delayed barrier activation against bosses give his default weapon high damage; his specials don't give him the same benefit, leaving X superior if you have the appropriate weakness available.  The only thing that really makes unarmored X a bit of an underdog is that X relies on armor for the 1/2 damage benefit, whereas everyone else gets chip upgrades.  But then it's a pretty unfair comparison to allow one upgrade variety and disallow another.  Unless you're Alia; she's up the creek.

MegaMan and story closure?  Right.

If they learned ANYTHING after X5 it was, God willing, to stop writing themselves into a corner unless they are damn sure their spiritual successor can measure up (such as Z4 to ZX).

In retrospect, it works.  But at the time, it was a bit too vague.  Could have referred to anyone.  Back in the day, I thought he meant Cain.

RMX2 is a bit more specific.  "Wi...Numbers..."

X / Re: Do you like Axl?

If they ever felt like re-introducing Wily, making Axl into Zero's little brother would make a surprising amount of sense.  Copy Chips leading to the elimination of Sigma and all.  It was clear in X6 that Wily had no reservations about his creations kicking Sigma's ass; I'd imagine he broke off the alliance after X5's plans went haywire.

We always knew X was created by Light, but it wasn't until X4 that we knew Wily created Zero
Actually hints of that were dropped in Rockman X2, but we lost them in localization.  X3 went completely Wily-less in all regions, though.
