Nothing will ever beat, "Where's that DAMN fourth Chaos Emerald?"

Irony itself that the two main special powers of the game are against the game itself, since if you use them, you'll either miss an objective or kill someone you shouldn't.
I reiterate that, gameplay-wise, there is no such thing as an enemy you should not kill.  If you've ignored one enemy of the "wrong" team, you're safe.  The occassional Chaos Blast doesn't get in the way of anything.  And I find it perfectly plausible that a character whose good/evil allegiance is player-dependent shall be depicted as a loose cannon.  There are certainly worse gameplay phenomena out there that fly in the face of storyline.  Ever go Laguz-slaying as Zihark in Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn?  And don't get me started on how MMX5's system completely contradicts the storyline rationale for X's and Zero's respective ranks.

That and there are neutral mission objectives in Shadow The Hedgehog, where you can just run for the goal and leave it at that, although taking them through the whole game gets you that stupid Shadow Android ending.  There's no question that the Last Story is better for having no missions and actually giving some focus to Chaos Control.  So, yeah, could have been better, could have been worse.  That's my take anyway.

I just don't see anything wrong with that.  What's the difference between aiming at the enemy and aiming around the enemy's obstacles?  Perfect Chaos is huge, SHOULD be huge, and his body is effectively used as a stunt to send you into your attack.

The core mechanics of Super Sonic mandate that stalling is the only way the enemy can hope to win.  Making your strikes speed-dependent simply places further emphasis on the point.  You can't actually hurt Super Sonic, so there's no reason for Sonic to ever fall back besides that play mechanics demand it so.

Ironically, if I were to look for an example of a lousy Super Sonic battle, I'd have to look at Dimps.  They frequently leave Super Sonic with no actual attack to call his own, rather he has some force field to reflect crap, and that's your only means of offense.  Doesn't feel very "ultimate" to know that you can't so much as touch the enemy on your own.

Except, the "new-age gamers" already don't dig MegaMan that much already, and they're not going to jump in just because of sparkling new graphics, fabulous new super motion controls, or dazzling new gameplay.  They have their Madden's, they have their Wii Sports & Party game

You need there to actually be a non-NES-style MegaMan game on the Wii before you can make the claim that Wii party games would thwart a new-age MegaMan.  Not since the SNES has Capcom given a Nintendo home console an original, traditional MegaMan title.

Games are either old-school classic style, or they're SPACE MARINES FPS SWEARING JOCKS EVERYWHERE.
I really hate to admit how much truth there is to that...

There's the possibility of good change. People just gotta be able to see it.
There will always be good change and bad change.  That's life.  There have been good changes to MegaMan.  Just because they re-use a lot of crap doesn't mean that they haven't made some nice tweaks.

Ironically, I maintain that what changed in X7 fared better than what stayed the same.  The 2D gameplay in that title is atrocious.

Damn, this is a tough one.  They both have great designs and great weapons.  Blast Hornet wins in the music department, though, so I'll go with him (plus, no matter how much I love Twin Slasher, it's mighty hard for me to argue with Earth Gaizer).

Part of that probably has something to do with the fact that it is Chaos, not Sonic, who falls back at every hit.

Perhaps, but Manaphy/Phione broke that trend last gen (good thing given the entire "legendary trio" of last-gen was Psychic).  And this guy appears to stand rather than float.

Hoo boy, time to play catch-up.

If Inafune is completely in charge, expect evolution along the lines of no charge, and no slide. His big thing about Megaman is simple gameplay, thus we got Megaman 9.
Sometimes I hate it when you're right...

HOPEFULLY, the no charge/no slide thing will at least be contained in the NES style.  I mean, in all titles, they have acknowledged the other abilities, merely diminished them.  I'd just like to see them in without having to swallow double damage.

For that matter, I wouldn't mind seeing ProtoMan with an upgrade to restore the "ultimate buster" status he enjoyed in PU (could do without the boss-flinching, though, since that renders specials obsolete).

Well the creator of a series/franchise is not always right.
We're supposed to gather meaningful insight from the one fanbase that hates its own source more than the Sonic fanbase does?

Seriously, if you want to speak of "the creator is not always right", you don't need to look outside of Inafune.  Just look at X5: Leaving others to "finish" (I use that term *VERY* loosely, X6 or no X6) your current story without you just so you can abandon it in favor of a spinoff.  A spinoff which discards a great deal of signature elements, I might add.

What a tease you are, Inafune.
So true, but I'm still hoping for L3.  I'm also hoping it doesn't let Picard force me to play in HD.

Well I like that his real name is Rock, and that when he Strong Sense of Justice'd, he became MegaMan!  XD
As do I.

Also like to activate the R.O.C.K. System via ROCK ON! to become a MegaMan (it may not be in any text script but it is what the U.S. ZX wound up with vocally).

Spider, if only for preserving the more dynamic boss-weapon reactions which have since been lost.  There are few if any weapons these days that actually modify boss behavior rather than simply adding some extra eye candy to their damage effect.

I certainly HOPE he sounds better when he's not offering a cheesy toy commercial voice to hype up a roller coaster...

Yeah, not impressed.  Yet.  Of course, I never minded Griffith.  And if this guy tones it down a little, I'm sure he'll be cool.

BTW, Jason Griffith did both Sonic and Shadow.  So if 4Kids Sonic is out, 4Kids Shadow is out.

Every game after S3K has tried to copy Doomsday Zone, and they all failed. It's about damn time SS gets to flex his muscles outside of final bosses.
Both Adventures worked well enough.  Hell, I'd dare say that Finalhazard surpasses Doomsday (as addressed later, Doomsday is less a fight and more a chase).  Witnessing the effects of atmosphere entry during a prolonged battle is pretty damn awesome, to say nothing of the characters yelling at you.

And although they're technically not Super Sonic (and therefore do not fall into the "How's your ring energy?" category), both Storybook games are strong in the "ultimate form versus final boss" department.

Meh. Adventure's was okay as a change of scenery. But it still felt like a boring fight. And the fact that after three hits they ditch Open Your Heart is just plain stupid.
This, this, this, THIS, THIS, THIS!!!

Quote
Doomsday was awesome because it was simple, both in difficulty and design, it has two things to blow up, and it doesn't feel so much like boss fights as it does a chase.
All very true.  Of course, the fact that it "doesn't feel so much like a boss fight" is included, which kind of distances it from the category of an "ultimate battle" scenario.  The real fight in S3&K is on the Death Egg; Doomsday is simply thwarting the escape.

That's exactly what he's like in every regular stage.
Exactly.  There are plenty of Super Sonic stages that don't feel especially "Sonic" like, you just happen to fly.  But I look at Perfect Chaos and I see very much a high-powered Sonic boss fight, in spite of the moronic music switch.  You run like hell, dodge obstacles, corkscrew up the inside of the boss's neck, and deliver a golden spindash to the head.  Feels like a Sonic battle to me.

Huh, this isin't the first time we had tiny legendaries (SEE: The Lake Trio from gen 4).
This one requires an event item it seems, and tiny legendaries as promotional-only are quite common; at least one exists in every generation.

I think Gardevoir would make a pretty good Zatanna.  Mewtwo or Alakazam for Fate.

Swellow ought to make a great Black Canary (Guts+Endeavor+Flame/Toxic Orb = pain).

How about Tyranitar for Green Arrow?  Tossing rocks is probably about as close to the "arrow" motif as you're going to get.

Love what I'm seeing, even in spite of the Power/Varia blender stunt.

Depends on the boss, not to mention the fact that there isn't exactly much post-Maridia (well, on the regular path that you're expected to take anyways).
Ridley and Mother Brain's second form make the point well enough.  Her first requires missiles as a matter of weapon typing, that's about it.

They did. I still love to mock tourneyfags about Brawl. 8D There aren't many people who'll go as far as to create game mods just to make the game more like they want it to be.
To be fair I'm modding the hell out of the game's soundtrack, but even I have to laugh when game mods are created for the FULL AND SOLE PURPOSE of altering the physics engine.

There are only 400 billion different modes one can come up with in Smash and half the internet has to make it NO ITEMS FOX ONLY FINAL DESTINATION.  My favorite Brawl moment was taking an FD engine of destruction into Yoshi's Island Melee, where he found out that he doesn't know how to fight on a slope.  A freaking SLOPE.  That's one hell of an unbalanced stage hazard, right?

Eh, I'm eyeing Sonic 4 more than this honestly.  Not because of any love of Dimps, though.  But Super Sonic is in stages, which is COMPLETELY inconceivable in this day and age, so I have to at least try it.  Plus I'm hoping Tails will appear, as a proper player and not some F*@#ING GIMMICK/CUTSCENE CHARACTER, in one of the later episodes.

Seriously, whoever decided to make the Sonic Colors debut trailer feature the Sonic and Tails combo, while oh by the way you can't use Tails, needs to have an icepick shoved under their toenails.

Bosses in particular were rather susceptible to them (ie. being able to kill Kraid with Super Missiles in Super Metroid before he fully spawns in).
Still no match for charged Plasma Beam, though.  It's amazing how quickly post-Maridia bosses go once you realize that.

Pretty much none of that is applicable to my team, though.  Skill Swap is basically made for Slaking, and I use neither him nor Abomasnow.

I have no need of a(nother) Self Destructor and Mewtwo is an average user of it anyway, since a -Attack Nature is the most beneficial to him.

I use only one Uber as my "flagship" Pokemon and as such Drizzle/Drought combos are not feasible for me.  Further, there are better Pokemon to take advantage of either condition.

Gravity is a situational gimmick, and such a vulnerable setup is ill-suited to a Pokemon who, by Uber standards at least, is not particularly bulky.  When you bring a lone Uber into Doubles, you're more often than not painting a giant bull's-eye on their butt, and you need to be weary of that.

Mewtwo hits hard and fast, and he's awesome at it, but his move selection is clearly catered to one-on-one.  He has a hard time achieving synergy with a partner, especially in any way which can be called uniquely his own.

Going with Frost Walrus here.

1) I couldn't really figure out which bosses would count as the 8 Maverick Bosses.
12 production pods are in Lagrano ruins.

8 Combat Reploids:
Wild Jango, Silverhorn, Dr. Psyche, Mach Jentra, Incentas, Duckbill Mole, Rafflesian, Ninetails.

4 High Performance Reploids:
Botos, Ferham, Scarface, Epsilon

Depends on if you want to go by story or by gameplay.  By story, you have 8 Combat Reploids, simple enough (consider the Cadres fortress bosses).  By gameplay, the latter 3 Combat Reploids are hidden bosses, so you'd replace them with the Cadres minus Epsilon.

A shame I can't find an excuse to fit Depth Dragoon in there...

X5 as a game
Keyword: Game.  Produced and released by Capcom.  It can be retconned, but cannot be taken back.  An out-of-game source which was released and then pulled is valuable by every sense of the word, but is not on its own an absolute.  Not without knowing why it was pulled, and we can only guess.  It may be a conceptual link they're not willing to commit to.  Or it may be final and they just wanted to save it for their next book.  We don't know either way.

Quote
Thing is, the Zero collection timeline is not a small thing, it is several entries which tell a complete story from start to finish. Within that story, a lot of matters are recited, and many points which are cross-referenced in the character profiles simply depend on the whole. The cross-referenced points such as Zero sealing himself as a result of the Nightmare Incident, X's perfect virus countermeasures, Zero turning good and Project Elpis simply cannot entirely stand alone.
I disagree.  X having a perfect virus countermeasure is in no way related to the Nightmare or to Project Elpizo.  Neither are the latter two related to each other.  They each relate to those points which are previously established, which is fine and dandy, except that those previously established points DID stand alone.  Filling in more material is always welcome, but that they can be filled in one way does not mean that they can be filled in only that way.

In fact that virus countermeasure speaks against it.  In linking the whole thing to the "virus from space", presumably Roboenza, it says that these points are being newly expanded.  Whether that connection was given the final stamp of approval or is still subject to change is unclear.

Zero Collection timeline being "small" or not is irrelevant.  Concept is not "small".  The whole of concept is not completely invalidated based on one or two points changing.  That's why we call it insight.

Quote
We know Mother Elf is NOT created to be Cyber-elf with the ability to control Reploids (though Dark Elf) is; Mother elf was creation as an anti-virus.
As I said in my last post: "...it is no small stretch for one who by each and every account was born to alter Reploid behavior, regardless of to what end."

An anti-virus may kill the virus but that doesn't mean it'll undo what damage was done.  See where I'm going with that?  The ability to alter Reploid programming on such a deep level surely carries the potential of more than one application; there is nothing that says the transformation of Mother Elf to Dark Elf is not simply a matter of intent rather than ability.  Aizu is discussing ability, not purpose, there is a difference.  Furthermore, Project Elpizo as an official backing of a "controller" leaves the implication that Weil wasn't the only one to see that potential use in Mother Elf.

Quote
Furthermore, though not necessarily, the text seemingly implicates the corruption to Dark Elf as upon birth, which we also know is not true.
Speculation.  By saying "not necessarily", you render your own point moot.  You cannot discredit information simply because your own optional interpretation doesn't fit.

Quote
Neither of these untrue details are mentioned in Tree Keys.
One may well be true in canon, as I've outlined above.  The other is not "mentioned", it is your own personal interpretation of context.  Invalid.  Aizu did not state that Dark Elf was created at birth, he simply did not specify that she wasn't.  And nothing, save you, says that she was.  That is not a valid argument.  I can tell you that "early concept" strongly correlates to "originally" (which it does), but that alone proves nothing.

We're going off on a tangent, though.  Because regardless of Aizu's words, that the Three Keys disclaimer exists cannot be denied, and as such, information from the Three Keys cannot stand as fact without support from another source.

"The information that follows comes from the early concept phases for the Zero series' scenario, and therefore may not be canonical."

When was that statement ever retracted?  It wasn't.  You argue against that, you argue against fact.

Really? I thought it was your Mewtwo. =P
Well, here's something else which pisses me off mid-game:

Mewtwo has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that functions in a Double Battle.  He is really freaking awesome but he is a stand-alone fighter to the core.  HG/SS looked to offer some relief with a Role Play/Me First combo.

Wait, what, you can't Me First your teammates?

Hence, there's 'somehow' a relation, which is easily lost by word twisting the likes of which Udon did. Who knows what that relation is. In the case of the removed mention of Repliroids; just as it is important to not create selectivity when there is ambiguity, it is also important not to create ambiguity when there's selectivity.
There IS ambiguity.  Period.  The Three Keys' disclaimer places the entire thing in ambiguity.  Selectivity only exists in what can be confirmed through another source.  The Three Keys is not fact, it is insight.

Quote
But do we have anything else aside from the 1XX label to call into question?
I recall a great deal of confusion as to the nature of Sigma's infection.

Also some juicy new details as to Project Elpizo, and X's reaction thereof.  I LOVE IT, mind you, and would die to hear more, but that doesn't mean it isn't subject to change.  Especially if for reasons unknown to us CoJ is trying to unsee it.  They took it down, we don't know why.  That's the textbook definition of a "grain of salt" situation.

Quote
The timeline cross-referenced itself on many occasions
Irrelevant.  Cross-referencing only establishes validity when it involves two different sources.  If you CANNOT cross-reference within the same source, you have a very shitty source.

Quote
He does not. The account by Aizu does not wholly match with Three Keys; we cannot confirm they are the same.
I provided quotes that parallel the exact same information.  Aizu is not going to restate the whole section, so of course it doesn't "wholly match".  What in his statement DOESN'T match?

Three points parallel across both quotes:

-Mother Elf created from Sigma Virus
-Negative properties of Sigma Virus transfer to Mother Elf
-Negative properties of Sigma Virus create Dark Elf

The latter two are not cross-referenced by any other source, and both accounts of them neglect to mention Weil.  Both accounts are stated to be conceptual information, one possibly not canon, one definitely altered in some unspecified way.  How is that not a match?

Aizu's only information not present in Three Keys is Mother Elf having the ability to control Reploids; which we already know by game events that Dark Elf does.  Further, it is no small stretch for one who by each and every account was born to alter Reploid behavior, regardless of to what end.
