I think the Eggman/Robotnik discrepancy is mainly a fan-based thing, though, like how you get U.S. fans who occasionally favor japanese "Rockman" names (I'm guilty of this with ZX).  It's true that there's an inconsistency in the name's introduction in Adventure1 (Sonic and friends making fun of him) versus all games since (Eggman referring to himself as such), but the names of the Adventure1 mechs should have made it fairly obvious that that was a localization issue.  It was sloppy, yes, but a lot of higher regarded franchises have had far worse screwups when it comes to consistency.  Somebody wanted to pull a "Princess Peach" name swap, and put Sonic's "attitude" to good use in doing so.  They just didn't stop to think about how that would impact continuity.

It's as much as a true return to the roots as New Super Mario Bros (Wii) was.
I'd say it's closer to NSMBDS, in that it very strongly references the original one or two titles rather than the entire "oldschool" track record.  NSMBWii contains numerous references to nearly Mario's entire 2D catalogue, while the DS was more strongly geared towards 1.  Likewise, taking Sonic solo is pretty specific to STH1 and CD.  STH2 and S3&K offer some serious competition for "best oldschool Sonic", but many of their finer points appear ignored, for Ep1 at least.

Kinda reminds me of the impact MM9 has on MM3 fans.  There's turning the clock back, and then there's turning it WAAAY back.

Excuse me, STM, but EV/IV training is not seeing Pokemon as math formulas.  You're thinking of Shoddy battlers.  EV/IV training is a simple matter of having no life.

Didn't that happen with the coloured Shadow multiplayer?
For the love of God, never speak of that again.

You've seen me attempt to "salvage" Shadow The Hedgehog, but the multiplayer is just beyond all hope. X(

As far as TP's items go, your "generic Zelda items" (Bow, Claw Shot, etc.) are useful enough, and Dominion Rod is an obvious if enjoyable gimmick.  Spinner DEFINITELY needed a soup-up off-rails.  By no means would it have left Epona obsolete (you can't use any other items on the Spinner, after all), but just giving Link some ability to "pump" it forward, perhaps having the attack button push it forward a bit, would have worked wonders.  In that sense, Superbat's "skateboard" analogy was right on the mark.

Ball And Chain was awesome, and by its nature kind of has to be unwieldy.  But I'm not sure if it was really necessary for it to limit Link's walking speed that much.

Face it, Epona was always obsolete.
Sadly true, that's what I like about TP.  The field is actually large enough that Epona has a point.  Further, combat on her back is controlled MUCH better than previous titles.  Bad enough that a game like OoT feels very claustrophobic on a horse, but remember the big Poe hunting?

The reused bosses and badniks are on purpose. Jesus, they had cheers when the old designs came back, because fans wanted it all back and when they showed the concept art, people rejoiced. People wanted the old back, people wanted it to be classic, just like the old titles. Now you complain because you think it's lazy? Seriously, I wish I could strangle you fans sometimes.
This is EXACTLY what I was talking about.

Every fan has their own ideal Sonic.  Every fan will [sonic slicer] at their perceived inconsistencies.  Hell, I do it too, just get me talking about Tails.  When Sega offers a lazy/rushed development, that's one thing, but you can't really fault them for not measuring up to a million different expectations at the same time.

Everyone's a pirate. I'm just the one who admits it. =P
Correction: We all time/format-shift.  That only makes us all pirates in the eyes of console manufacturers and the RIAA.

Yeah, I'm waiting until I get an actual retail disc in my hands.  If I want to hack my Wii I'll stick to Riivolution; maybe add Yoshi into more stages on NSMB...

I would HOPE so...

Also, is it just me, or when that robot is draggign that other robot and then seems to stab him... is it just me or does it resemble Blues he's dragging?
Color's a bit bright to be ProtoMan.  Plus no scarf.  I'm betting it's some no-name robot.

Actually, I thought it looked like a disarmed CutMan at first, then I took notice that it has a belt and not robo-underwear.  Not uncommon among the random rioting 'bots, though.

Though, at least one person on PRC assumes that this is "THE BRIDGE". I highly doubt that.
If it was, X and Zero would be the ONLY X-series characters.  Time-paradoxing Zero's creation would be asinine, especially since Power Fighters already established Zero's origins (which contrary to popular belief have nothing to do with X-copying).

Hey, time-farking is what makes it fun.  That being said, ignoring the Classic/X crossover aspect for a second, Signas shouldn't be the Maverick Hunter commander while Iris is alive.  Whether they're glazing over that, or we're looking at an earlier point in his career, who knows?

Funny how the entire cool factor of the trailer is that it's got no gameplay footage whatsoever, and it's entirely fan-pandering. =P
Well, we know it's a 2.5D online sidescroller, and that in itself is more than we know about MegaMan Universe.

I see your point.  But I won't argue with anyone fan-pandering me with Iris. 8)

Perhaps, but then its status as First-Person Adventure would be even more dubious than it already is.

Closest thing to a true FPS Metroid would be Prime Hunters on the DS.  Of course, the DS has no analogue, but the premise of touch-aiming is similar at least, and there is no lock.

ZX / Re: Is Ciel the first commander? And other related questions.
« on: August 23, 2010, 12:09:14 AM »
Zan's statement can very well be challenged if there is a basis for it; the quotes that I provided come from the only instance I recall in which the first commander's order is addressed (barring other material that I'm either forgetting or that I'm unaware of).
Naturally, but you're missing the point.  You already challenged Zan, thus warranting further elaboration, by him.  My comments do not negate that...

In the process of questioning the source that I provided (or how I interpret it), you indirectly challenged Zan's statement yourself.
...by your own admission, I might add.

So until Zan responds, my pushing the matter is redundant.

WHAT THE HELL IS A JIGGAWATT?!!

I'd just settle for someone figuring out how to properly handle Tails and Knuckles again (even better if in 3D, but this is the STH4 thread...).  No more mech piloting, treasure hunting, ring-bombing, or whatever the hell gimmicks they've tried.  Sonic's side-kick, and Sonic's non-evil-twin friendly rival, that's what I want to see.  I recall some interviews offering hope for later episodes of STH4, so here's hoping they're not referring to some cameo crap.

I don't mind the occasional glitch, didn't stop me from enjoying SA1.  The camera could stand to be less jittery, though.

Glitches were not alien to the Genesis games, either.  More than once I've found myself caught in a wall and/or outrunning the screen on one of the sidescrollers.  When you've got 70-something lives, you don't really care.

Rockman Series / Re: Why does every MM game have boss re-fights?

I don't think Wily actually made Quint. I read that he got a future megaman and reprogrammed him...but that may be retconned by now, because that was probably before the X series.
Nope, Quint's storyline hasn't really been addressed, besides his file in RM&F, and the little-known Wonderswan RM&F storyline (ask Zan, I don't remember the details).

I found X6's level design to be fine... as for High Max, I never knew how to harm him. He wasn't hard, but I couldn't hurt him. Once I got Shadow Armor, I raped him, but still.
As X: Stun with buster, damage with special weapon. Unarmored or Ultimate can stun through his shield if you fire a charged shot point-blank.
OR: Stun with buster, completely [twin slasher] with Nova Strike.

As Zero: Stun with special skill, damage with saber.
OR: Do both with Ensuizan, which rocks all socks.

REEAAALLYY NOW? I had no problem with HM Chronoforce because I was able to memorize his pattern. BOSS RUSH Chronoforce.. that's a diffrent challenge altogether.
It's the same Chronoforce.  Unless you're talking about the regional Hard/Normal/Maniac discrepancies...

All you need is jumper.
I didn't think Jumper alone worked (not without also using weapon-momentum-exploiting, anyway), but I know Hyper Dash alone does.  It's easier if you have both, though; positioning is less picky.

Isn't it the Genesis-era fans that [sonic slicer] about the new stuff more? Pretty sure noobs are the ones that eat up the new stuff.
I doubt that one; I've seen people chew into STH3 as the "beginning of the end".  Any Genesis-era fan worth their snot would UPPERCUT!! such a fool for obvious reasons (S3&K).

I'm a Genesis-era fan but I happen to love the Adventures and Storybook games as well.  Heroes and Shadow were sub-par, but not impossible to salvage.  Riders was an interesting concept that didn't quite click.  Haven't played 06 or Unleashed.

If you ask me, Sonic hate ties to Sonic no longer being a console mascot.  That's just the trend as I saw it; this bitching started before even Heroes was released, at least editorial-wise.  Read up on IGN's reviews of the GCN Adventure ports sometime; it's atrocious.

I maintain that there is no real consensus in the Sonic fanbase about how to make a "good" Sonic game, nevertheless I have to admire their effort.  And I certainly appreciate them tweaking the running frames/speed, because that was looking pretty sad in earlier builds.

IIRC, traded Pokemon will disobey sooner than Pokemon you catch, but even Pokemon you catch will eventually disobey if majorly over-leveled.

Yeah I never used a Gyarados, it takes too much to train it and it's never worth it.  I mean for crying out loud it's a flying type pokemon but it can't learn flying attacks not even Aerial Ace.
A good Flying Pokemon with a good Flying attack is hard to come by.  But Dragon Dance, Intimidate, and Earthquake immunity are always dangerous, even coming from a 4x Electric-weak 'man.  With physical Waterfall added to his move set, Gyarados can create a world of pain.

Honestly I like the Battle Frontier because I stay far far away from the Battle Factory myself and focus on the Battle Castle, Battle Tower, and ocassionally the Battle Arcade.
I generally hate all in-game tournaments because they always ban legendaries.  It's the same every gen; you have to buy the console game if you want unrestricted high-level opponents.  Which rather blows this generation since BR doesn't allow you to swap games and doesn't support Platinum forms/items.

It was probably harder back in the RBY days, where Metal claw was Non-existant.
Not really, because in R/B/Y, Brock had no actual Rock-type attacks, so your full and sole concern was dealing decent damage.  Further, before the G/S Special split, pretty much all Rock/Ground Pokemon had craptacular Special stats, meaning that even Ember could do a fair chunk of damage.

Got nothing against X6. It fell into the Legends category of "games I never got a chance to play due to not owning system" phase. I'll get around to it one day.
I'll rephrase:  He may eventually play X6, but I doubt he will stay with it past 20% completion.

Next time I bring it up, I'll say "almost just as shitty!" Will that help?   8D
It might. 8D

Eh... while Xtreme 2 is indeed a more solid game than the first, saying it controls like the home console games is taking it a bit too far.
I wouldn't say it controls "like" them, per se, but I would say that the benefits of proper air-dash momentum far outweigh the negatives.  More so than a dash button, I'd say that Zero could use another attack button.  Using the pause menu to ground-punch is a slight inconvenience.

With that, you have just claimed that Zan's post about all the Guardians receiving the order is conjectural.  In which case, you should explain yourself what else can be inferred from Prairie's full explanation, rather than just her initial response.
Zan did not use that quote as a source.  He provided no source, and I cannot challenge his interpretation without knowing what he is interpreting.  Refuting Zan is not my responsibility; I will do so when I am driven to do so.  Now is not one of those times.

I'm getting that "
Argument Clinic
" vibe again, and Superbat's filled my quota on that for quite some time.  So may I suggest that further posts address ZX rather than what either of us believes the other should be posting?

...and I just did it again, didn't I? -AC

.......I have large hands and that's never been an issue with me.  I mean, unless you have hands like A-Rod or a basketball player, then maybe! XD
If you're playing MM10 with the Classic/Pro controller, it damn well shouldn't be.  And there's no other game I can recall where that was a problem.

Quote
X5 yes. X6 no.
Blame the game's anti-completionist Part layout, then.

Ever plan on playing X6? Or is that also on your list of "too stubborn to play"?
Oh, if he's not playing Xtreme2, I sincerely doubt he will play X6.  I love X6 to death, but it is not a user-friendly game.  I often refer to it as being to X what Lost Levels is to Mario.

I might have known you slandering Vix's gameplay.

*UPPERCUT!!*

Why would you even use the weapon switch button on the back of the WiiMote instead of just pausing and selecting your weapon......
You wouldn't.  Did you not gather from my post that I was referring to an unintentional button press?  That's what happens when large hands hold the Wii remote sideways, B button gets in the way easily.

In a way, the fact that nostalgia demands you NOT use it kind of compounds the problem.  If you don't use the B button for anything, the need to avoid it gets more forgettable.  Until you cancel out of a Jet/Treble Boost, anyway.

LoL, and why bring up a weapon which I know nothing about
I figured you wouldn't, but I don't really care.  If you think I'm honestly trying to change your mind, think again.  I say again, I just get bored. :P
