DASH / Re: More fun Rumors about DASH 3!
« on: September 25, 2010, 01:44:42 AM »
I'm sure even if Legends 3 is made, all of your expectations for it will be so high that it will never be able to live up to them and you'll all just spend years bitching about how you wish it was never made.
We all went through that with SSB Brawl, so while I can confidently say that the rest of the internet may well do that, I personally will see any unmet expectations in Legends 3 as all the more reason to beg for a Legends 4. 8)

Also, nearly every boss could be beaten by running circles around them and blasting.
As with a great deal of control arguments I've taken part in, that is mainly a Legends 1 thing.  The Legends 2 enemies were far more intelligent.

We already got DASH3, they released it on cellphone.
I thought that was DASH1-1/2?

A decade of skepticism forces me to point out that "real" and "inevitable" are not the same thing in game development.  Games do get canceled.

Nevertheless, I'm still hoping.  This is some of the most promising DASH/Legends gossip we've had in a long time, so I'm REALLY hoping something comes of itpreferrably on Wii or 3DS.

My point.  The XL is an over-sized monstrosity created for the sole purpose of over-the-shoulder viewing, functionally identical to the previous model  (and as the basic DSi already enjoys larger displays/wider angles than the DS/Lite, the point is kinda redundant).  It's no upgrade, merely a matter of preference, and no less a novelty than the Micro was.

The Micro just had it tougher because it suffered functionality issues (lack of GBC support and incompatible link cables).  The backlit SP is the best way to go, but I must admit an Ammonite face place and a headphone jack sans adaptor of any sort do sound sweet once in a while.

Well, it'd be nice to have some reason other than being unwilling to swing the fourth move slot to stick with his default form, I guess...

(so sue me, I like a Levitating Elec/Ghost)

Rushing things isn't good. The regular DS still has the potencial to last for a big while, and we just got a new model recently. We don't want Nintendo to turn into Apple and release new hardware constantly, so we have to keep buying new [parasitic bomb] to be updated.
According to Nintendo's statements the 3DS will not be seeing release any later than 3 months after the rumor, so I think that ship has sailed.  Besides, the 3DS is an actual new system, not a hardware revision as the DSi XL was.

The DS certainly has the popularity/userbase to last a while longer, but some developers are shying away due to flash carts.  I don't really buy that, but sometimes perception itself can be enough of a threat.

I wish I could deny that.  I really do...

IT WILL BE KINECT EXCLUSIVE.

...AND IT WILL FEATURE HOLOGRAPHIC RIGHT ANALOG STICKS.

...THE WHOLE GAME WILL BE BASED ON RIGHT ANALOG STICKS.
Well, I already have remarkably better success at handling imaginary right analogue sticks than Daemon Hatfield, so I guess holographic would be the next step up. 8D

And unless it's 2D, the damn game WILL have to evolve in some way from the previous titles. It's inevitable. And you won't find me complaining about that.
Who do you think you're fooling?  You already complain about the 2D games (ZX) not evolving.

I heard that now it raises Sp.Attack AND gives you inmunity, nothing to lol at.
So basically an Electric version of Flash Fire?

Hm, interesting, if it turns out to be true...

Also, I just noticed Breloom gets Technician.

Why would you do that, GameFreak?
Oh man, Technician-boosted Drain and Mach Punches will be evil...

Well, look at the bright side, it means axing Poison Heal, so you can hopefully status it.

To hell with the lot of you, I'm too impatient! O:<

Oh well.  Not much I can do except hope for a kickass game or two on my birthday.

And we look forward to your bitching about whichever of those aspects are not included therefore signaling the lack of evolution in MegaMan games. 8)

A near decade of skepticism has me ready to dismiss this as an MvC3 reference.  But I'm hopeful.  And I will try, very very hard, to not [sonic slicer] about console choice, whatever it may be (though if it's PS3-exclusive I'm going to be up [parasitic bomb]'s creek).

EDITS: Hm...  [sonic slicer] is censored, bitching isn't.

-What genius put Lightning rod on Seaking?!
I had to LOL when I saw that.

Lightning Rod seemed to get shoveled out a bit among the Electric types as well, from what I saw.  I guess for the pure Electrics it can be useful since they resist it.  But Zapdos?  Nope, not happening.

In all fairness, Hail-whoring is about all that Abomasnow is good for.  Short of Wonder Guard, I don't think they could have given him any remotely useful alternative.

Much agreed on Electrode, starters, and especially Sharpedo. 8)

Oh, and a list of abilites pokémon get in the Dream World.

Politoed gets Drizzle...yeah, that's gonna be the biggest jump in tiers ever.
Now there's a nice reason to recapture the oldies.  I'm liking a lot of what I see, particularly for Ninetails (Drought, whoo-hoo!), and the fact that RBY/GSC legendaries have something other than F*@#!ING PRESSURE.

Now if only I knew what those new abilities were for Mewtwo and Dragonite...

Dont care, its just comes to  add to my arguement that there is a hola that must be filled.

While I whole-heartedly support the idea of Iris having some sort of Zero-series cameo, that "fan-manga" scenario raises more questions than it answers.  Trying to pass Girouette off as being helmetless Zero raises issues with the fact that Zero's soul is contained within Model Z.  For that matter it raises issues with why in the hell he'd require ANY Biometal to fight in the first place.  If he were Zero, all he'd need is a stray lead pipe, and he'd show those Galleons a thing or two.

Now honestly, how brain-dead do you have to be to not realize that, barring Deus Ex Machina, Zero is dead in Z4?  We're not talking about falling off of a cliff, grabbing God-knows-what as one falls, or landing in a river, or any such thing.  We are talking about the entire space station you're on exploding during atmospheric entry.  Frankly I'm surprised that even the left half of his helmet survived that.

There are some bizarre ones, but yeah, I like most of the designs.

I couldn't help but notice a lot of odd Speed stats in the list (lots of 101's and a few 111's).  I swear Nintendo is deliberately trying to throw the Shoddy battlers for a loop, not that I mind.

New voices sound better than I was expecting (well, in Sonic's case; for Tails it's hard to NOT sound better).  I still wish Tails was more than a [tornado fang]ing navigator/cheer-leader, which he's been reduced to ever since Rush, but the game is looking cool otherwise.

Apologies for the lateness in responding to one of Batty's posts.  It really is something I wanted to comment on, but real life kept me busy.
DISCLAIMER: Despite fragmented quote tags the entirety of Superbat's post is here.
Some explanation would have to be given to why Blaze is in the game all of a sudden. And it would really serve no purpose whatsoever. Just let the game be without nitpicking on the absence of a single character who isn't prevalent in the Sonic series and is only wanted in this game because it's unofficially Sonic Rush 3.
I'm sorry, but I just see that argument as too "in the box".  It would take all of five seconds to put her in the game, but it's too inconvenient to write a scenario for it?  Not buying that.  The vast majority of decent platformers are games in which nobody gives a rat's butt about the story.  And even if no story rationale behind her appearance can be thought of, she could always be a post-game bonus.  It's not as if there's any reason for Luigi in NSMB, or the Navigators in X8.

The Wii isn't the only console around, and Sonic Team has proved time and time again to not be able to hold the responsibility to handle more than one single gameplay mode without [tornado fang]ing it all up for almost ten years.

The mentality that multiple characters mandate multiple gameplay modes is the very thing that shoots Sonic Team in the foot.  Just because I want to see Tails in gameplay does NOT in any way shape or form mean that I want to see Tails-specific stages.  I don't.  Tails-specific stages belong in a Tails-specific spinoff game, not in a Sonic game.

When I speak of characters, I am not speaking of alternate gameplay modes.  I am speaking of the STH2-S3&K approach: maybe a few character-specific routes because you can, but still clearly within the same basic gameplay mold.  Black Knight has multiple characters but in a single gameplay mode (crapass versus mode not withstanding; I'm referring to the main game).  Sonic Unleashed has only Sonic, but in multiple gameplay modes.  You're muddling two different issues together whereas I am discussing only one.

Further, the Wii is where Sonic has seen the most action this console generation.  But even including all home consoles, we have four Sonic titles:  Two are Sonic-solo (Secret Rings and Unleashed), and one (Black Knight) as additional characters wholly optional.  Only STH 2006 features characters who may be considered detrimental to gameplay.  And, dare I say, the last game of the previous generation was also a hedgehog-solo game, and one which made more than a few critical missteps.  Rush games both feature an alternate player and were well-received.  There is no correlation between "solo" status and the quality of the title, period.

Quote
So far, what we've seen of both new home console games they're making, suggests that they're at least decent and not a complete shitty mess like the ones before. We still have to judge that for ourselves, but for now, the system seems to be working. Aside from your favoritism for a game most people seem to hate and alot of other questionable choices, surely you can find this easy to understand? The one thing people need, is a GOOD Sonic game. At this point, as long as they can deliver quality to us, I will not give a flying [tornado fang] about whether the game stars Rocky the Raccoon or Honky the Hippo. Sega's keeping it as simple as they can in both of these games, while still offering simple extras to make it memorable. With everyone bitching about this "back to origins" bullshit, we need simplicity more than ever. We need a game that gamers, fans and reviewers can enjoy equally, a game which has the potencial to be fun for pretty much everyone. For now, from what we've seen, this seems to be travelling in that direction. It's an improvement on everything the halfway good parts of Unleashed were, built on the easiest home console to program for nowadays, on a system Sonic Team has experience with. Everything about this makes sense.
I will note that the Sonic Cycle is not officially broken until gameplay impressions have been established among the masses.

Further, remember who you're talking to.  Hardcore MegaMan fan who just came off two years of sequels in the NES mold, following ZX for all its awesomeness being bogged down with God knows how many fetch-quests.  I know a thing or two about return to simplicity, and yes, Sonic could absolutely benefit from that.  But, like MegaMan 9, in returning to roots there is such a thing as turning the clock back too far.  It's one thing to return to the old style; it's quite another to return to the original draft and discard all progress made since then.  Ask anyone their favorite Sonic game, and your answer will most likely be STH2, SCD, or S3&K.  In two of those three, you have multiple characters.

To me, a return to form without Tails is just as offensive as if STH4 didn't feature a spin-dash.  Sure, you could make the game great regardless, but you just have to ask, why?

Anyway, Sonic fans will [sonic slicer] beyond racionality.
The one universal constant of gaming.

Yknow, Capcom has been sort of I dunno... lazy in the graphics department as of late. And I dont mean the  bit thing, but when they have 3D graphics, they under utilize the system potential. X8 didnt look so great, and MHX even less, (hell, they simplified Zero's helmet design in MHX just so they wouldn't need to add more curves to the model) Command mission was good, but could have been better.

Then theres X7. X7, for all the problems with it, was actually a very good looking game, i think- compared to some of the 3D graphics ones that came after. Plus it was cell shaded, which added to its smooth look. (something that X8 initially had but they removed for some damn reason)

Maybe im just nuts, but thats how it seems to me.
More or less agreed, however I believe that Command Mission's visuals are superior to X7's, both technically and aesthetically.

Yes, since X8, Capcom has gotten visually lazy.  You don't even have to look at their 3D to see it, just look at how they handle X's armored mugshots in X8, and the complete lack of any such thing in MHX.

It wasnt a gripe this time, its true- Check MMX OCW. They talk about simplifying the helmet design for the sake of the model.
Man speaks truth.  Page 138, Zero's MHX concept art captions.

Quote
Although when I think it over, its not exactly THAT relevant... Its just a very odd case in which they for some reason, decided to design Zero according to his in game model.. which was weird, since its no strange thing for an in game sprite to look one way and the art work another. (see Megaman's 8 bit sprite vs his artwork)
I think Yoshikawa is a little too down-to-earth for his own good; he tends to over-obsess over mundane details with the "toy designer" approach (the MHX gauntlet redesign is my textbook definition of pointless), and yes, the deliberately low-poly designs are hard to read as anything but cheap.  Another of his design quirks that bugs me is the fact that he lines up busters by the elbow, rather than by the wrist (compare any MHX art, concept or final, to Zero taking aim in TDoS's simulation, and you'll see what I mean).

I disagree with that.  The klaxon is a wake-up call, and an appropriate one I think.  Samus returns to a bioweapon death trap scheduled to self-destruct so she can retrieve a memento?  Fine and dandy, but if nobody cleared her to be there, then she can't really afford to stand around day-dreaming.  It's appropriate given the item, but not practical given the location.  Or to put it another way: WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR FLASHBACKS!

If Metroid has any issues with self-destructing, it would be the rationale (or lack thereof) behind preceding the self-destruct with who knows how many smaller explosions throughout the facility.  We don't know why it happens, and there's no reason it should happen, but hey, it looks cool.

As far as Other M goes specifically, I'd prefer the use of the NES escape theme as opposed to the Super Metroid method of recycling Ridley's theme (awesome as it is).  Too much of that game's soundtrack goes unappreciated within the series; part of why I love Zero Mission so much.

I only know of the +World package from certain unmentionable archives.  My brother and I just had the SMB1-3/Lost Levels shpiel.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if NoA relegated this package (or just the game disc) as a Club Nintendo exclusive.
Game disc + artwork, I'd expect.  We all *WISH* NoA would put soundtracks on Club Nintendo.... O:<

Well, with all due respect, what was to be expected for like 2500 JPY as the asking price? This is basically as much in the way of a "budget pack cash in" as the Zelda Collector's disc for GC years ago, with the only real difference being that (at least for the JP side), you can't opt to just send in points/proof of purchase to redeem for the package deal; you actually have to pay out of pocket this time.

To me, the only sad thing is that this isn't the "+World" package, and apparently Yoshi's Island doesn't "count" enough as a Mario game to even be considered for such a thing like this.
I gotta agree with Ben here.  That World and Yoshi's Island aren't making the cut is sad (and why shouldn't YI "count", if it counted for the SMA series?).  The four NES titles may be found on the VC for $20 total.  Yeah, the collectible materials are nice, but one would expect a "collection" to be a bit more of a bargain.  And since the collection really is a simple SNES emulation, one or two titles to "complete" the collection shouldn't have been all that much to ask.  I'm not going to get greedy and go for N64, spinoffs, etc., but even just sticking strictly to the 2D Mario platforming mold, they could have stood to sweeten the deal.

But, it's a spiffy bundle, so surely somebody will like it.  And yes, I too will probably pay that much for the soundtrack alone if hell freezes over and NoA releases it here.  And as cheap as it is, I am in a way glad that the All-Stars versions of SMB1/Lost Levels are getting a nod again.  There are certain ups and downs to each format (small fire trick VS new Bowser BGMs, tough choice).

Paper Mario as a launch title?  Interesting.  I'm still most psyched for Kid Icarus and Mario Kart, though.

Since the November release rumors have surface I've been trying to build my 3DS savings more aggressively.  A fairly significant launch fund is growing within the hollowed out back and buttocks of a robot dinosaur who shall remain nameless for his/her own protection.  I intend to have one at launch day (and pray that Nintendo uses better quality parts for their shoulder buttons this time).

I agree with Talyn.  On that note, I don't "trust" any particular reviewer.  Reading their comments, figuring out why they like/dislike the game, it helps.  And of course I like to read gaming news and all.  But I've never considered them reliable, as far as trusting their opinions.  Many of them act as though their opinions are considerably more standardized than they actually are, and they also tend to get very vocal about their approval/disapproval of particular trends which one may or may not agree with at all (case in point: genre choice in Sonic music).
