For my post-Christmas gifts to myself, I picked up Monster Hunter Tri and Contra 4.  Just got my first capture (online) in Tri today.

I WANTED to get Mario All-Stars, but trying to squeeze one more budget-game into my Christmas list bit me in the ass.  The damn thing already sold out everywhere and is up to $80 on e-Bay and Amazon.

F*@#! you, Nintendo.  The last game compilation you labelled a collector's item was on shelves for MONTHS.  This was just a dick move.

A program life object may have aspects of justice and evil, which I would think is only natural for any living intelligence.  But the fact that Alien Energy reacts to justice and evil does not make it a program life object.

Why would that be surprising?  Who in all of RMO have we confirmed ISN'T a clone?  Even the navigators are questionable considering that Iris is among them (and really, who here buys Signas, Alia, and Layer outliving X and Zero?).

Putting arguments over specific continuity details aside, can't it be assumed that the URA use some method similar to the UCA in order to bring back otherwise deceased Irregular Repliroids and Humaroids? Wall of text inbound... >_>
I certainly don't see why not.

You're added to the list.  However, I must point out that if you want to send/receive Brawl Vault data with a friend, you must exchange BOTH your Brawl Friend Codes AND your Wii Console Codes.

Anything non-hacked requires only an SD card.

Anything hacked requires Homebrew Channel and Riivolution.

Since nobody posted this here, the shiny G/S/C beasts are going to be downloadable at GameStop in the coming weeks.  Raikou from Jan. 3-9, Entei from Jan. 17-23, and Suicune from Jan 31-Feb. 6.

If you want the Zoroark event in Black/White, you'll need one of them.

Fun fact: The place-holder price in Gamestop's computers for the 3DS is $1000.

Suddenly I'm reminded of some IGN moron claiming that based on the $50 deposit, the final price will be twice that of the PS3, or some such nonsense.

Gaming / Re: Sonic Colors (Wii, DS)
« on: December 29, 2010, 01:04:00 AM »
Yeah, some of those rings weren't easy to find, but honestly, I found them just by dicking around with the abilities.

"Let me use spikes on this wall... oh [parasitic bomb], a new part of the lev--oh cool, a red ring!"

I only needed help on a few of them in Aquarium Planet and Asteroid Coaster, where a person conveniently made video guides on how to get them.
Here's the thing: If you have a guide, it's fetch-questing.  If you don't, you risk "Shadow The Hedgehog's Last Story" syndrome, which is to say that by the time you unlock your emerald power you've already replayed the stages so many times that you're damn sick of the game.

The entire POINT of Super Sonic in stages is for replay value.  Requiring such menial replays to unlock it defeats the purpose.  If there was any other way of unlocking Sonic Simulator levels, all would be cool.

Quote
Now, getting all red rings on the DS version when no guide exists... THAT was not fun. And for what? Infinite boost gauge.

[tornado fang] you, DIMPS.
Ouch.  That is harsh.  'specially with how easy the Boost Gauge is to fill, assuming they're still using the Rush trick mechanics.

Yeah, I don't actually have the DS version...  Bottom line, no playable Blaze, and emeralds do nothing except unlock final boss, correct?  Not touching it in that case.

Hacking the console's channels (VC/WiiWare) requires more extensive (and otherwise obsolete) exploits than homebrew in general.  You can replace the SSB Brawl soundtrack with far less trouble than you can cheat in MegaMan 9, much less direct-load it from an SD card.

It needs to copy the file to the Wii's flash memory before it actually runs. Loading from SD is just an automated version of copying files as you need them from an SD card. It's not pointless unless you somehow don't have enough space on the Wii's flash in the first place.
The fact that it's "automated copying" is WHY it's pointless.  It mandates leaving empty space on your system and is responsible for excessive load times (waiting for the entire game to write to the Wii's flash).  Both are a nuisance and the latter is something Nintendo USED to consider unacceptable.

I'm not sure how well-founded the fears of shortening the flash's lifespan are, though, considering that we're talking about the same chunk of memory that handles your save data if you were playing a disc game instead.  Nor would I be terribly concerned about the SD card; even if you wear out flash memory to the point of no longer being able to be written, you can still read from it (ie: transfer to a new card).

Quote
Storage-wise:
a Dual Layer DVD(PS2 and Wii).
And both X-Boxes.  The only gaming console to surpass the dual-layer DVD size (8.5GB) would be the PS3 (dual-layered Blu-Ray disc is 50GB).

It should be noted, however, that with flash memory the devs fork over more money for going for the larger sizes, so they will shoot for the smaller sizes if they can.  Since the range stated at Vix's site is 1GB-8GB, that most likely means devs will have 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB cards to choose from.

Of course, even 2GB could do the above-mentioned MegaMan compilations. That in itself is larger than either the Gamecube's or PSP's discs.

IGN alleges today that GameStop is taking 3DS pre-orders.  There is no such option on their website, so this is apparently an in-store-only thing.

You're forking over $50 for one heck of a question mark, seeings how we still don't know price, release date, or the actual launch lineup.  There's a list of four 3rd-party games you can reserve, none of which are among my personal "heavy hitters", though.

Posted on: December 27, 2010, 10:17:51 PM
Pre-order GET!  Odd that they're being this quiet about it, maybe they're trying to make sure that the "core" gamers get the jump start?

Whatever.  I still remember the Wii launch, not sleeping until 9:30 AM.  Not doing that again.

X / Re: What took them so long to destroy the Virus?

"Relation" in that sense is more of a narrative trend than anything else.  Ye olde ZC timeline (which has since been taken down) referred to the Sigma Virus as a "subspecies" of an older virus from space, presumably referring to MM10's Roboenza.

False. It had been used in EXE4 as well.
So sue me; that's an AU and is therefore irrelevant.

People seem to forget that Evil Energy does not create evil; it is instead born and grown from evil. It is attracted to evil, and feeds on it.
I didn't mean that as relating to the Evil Energy part of the discussion.  Merely correcting a misconception as to the Maverick Virus's purpose.

X / Re: What took them so long to destroy the Virus?

I guess not, didn't the Virus have that Evil Energy signature (not the Evil energy from Classic) that had been crafted by Wily to tap into the violent tendencies of Reploids?
You lost me completely.  The ONLY time "Evil Energy" has been used as a specific term was within Classic.  Any links between it and the Sigma Virus are at best fan-based speculation, nothing more.

IN NO WAY WHATSOEVER was the Maverick Virus created to draw out the violent tendencies of Reploids.  As a matter of fact, in relation to Zero, it was created to do the complete opposite and suppress them (stated on the Zero Collection timeline).

It's a standard .aax, relatively simple.
No experience with those.  Need to at least be able to encode them in order to accomplish anything.

I dare say, even if the game is short, you're a bigger man than I for 100%ing it.  Sega has a fine mastery of mundane checklists, and "searching" in Sonic stages just doesn't work for me.  I nabbed 90-something red rings on my first play, went back to collect what I missed, and within TWO ACTS was questioning my life or lack thereof.  Both times I got four rings and spent about a dozen replays looking for that last one to somehow elude me.

I can't endure that 36 times over.  To Gecko OS, I go.

Cleared Sonic Galaxy Colors.  Got 81 red rings to track down still...

IMHO the "collectible checklist" shpiel just doesn't work for Sonic.  It's fun in the enclosed stages, but when you're blazing by wide-open areas, having to stop and check every nook and cranny just sucks the life out of you (I wasn't too fond of Secret Rings' Fire Souls, either).

IIRC from my old MAME escapades, the games contain language options that are simply not able to be altered by the user.  Along the same lines as difficulty setting and free-play mode.

As far as actual machines, I never found 'em.  Bless those who did.

Flame's response from the Rockman Online thread:
He died clashing with Duo. And even Duo only survived because Rock brought him to Light to repair. Wily instead just took the power source from the other robot's remains.

Don't have too much to add to that.

Sigma Virus defies 21XX attempts at analysis as is well established in X5's opening (and in MMZOCW).  It's difficult to counter what one cannot freely examine.  It also dies with its host (established in X6), so they can't simply haul a corpse into the lab.

And one can also reasonably assume that the Sigma Virus is adaptive, since viral vaccines have been in use ever since X3.

Lag kills my combos, so I suck online.
There's a club for that.  It's called, "Everybody", they meet at the bar.

I can barely pull off a Shoryuken-command OFFLINE; online it's a complete crapshoot.  Which really makes it a pain when you're trying to use Trigger's Drill Arm super and you wipe out three meters on that useless Shining Laser.

Just got Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing for the Wii.

Also got Sonic Colors, but I don't really give a damn what anyone's score is... ::)

Finally, updated the list with a few Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom codes from people who couldn't find this thread.

For as annoying as spammers are, it's just as satisfying when you finally do break them.  I got quite a rush breaking through my first Hadangeki-spammer.

...I also have difficulty NOT spamming when playing as Trigger, just because weapon-switching and buster-charging can throw off some of the usual maneuvers.  And I'm not much for the super-advanced-3l33t-attack-abbreviations extended combos, either.  Hell, I can't Baroque to save my life.

Add me right now 1162-4945-0816
*coughs*

IMHO I don't think it's fair to demand diversity from somebody in terms of player selection.  If they have a best character, they have a best character, and I for one don't appreciate it when people pull their punches.  But if they sincerely want to mix it up, then more power to 'em.  It does help if your moves get too predictable.

Interesting to see that Zero's Soul Eraser attacks were in fact english terms originally.  I hadn't expected that; thought they gave him the X5 treatment again.

Incidentally, it's "Earth Gaizer" in Xtreme1 and simply "Earth G." in Xtreme2.

This is embarassing, but I only recall three Ride Armors in X8 (w/ rifle, w/o rifle, and Vile's).  Which one am I missing?  Cyclops, IIRC, was the only name to make it through localization.

Some armor/weapons that are still missing:

-X-Fire (Command Mission; I recall seeing the site with the Japanese trophy codes listing it with the kanji for "Cross Fire", but I don't recall the URL)

-Renyoudan (X8 w/ D-Glaive)
-Zekkyoudan (X8 w/ B-Fan)
-Dairettsui (X8 w/ T-Breaker)
-Ganzaha (X8 w/ K-Knuckle, same for the rest)
-Senpuukyaku
-Raijinken
-Enkoukyaku
-Shoryuken

Also the doctor doesn't want to be spitting inside their patient's body, either. :P

Basic dust mask might work as well (used for those in industry work so that they don't inhale excessive amounts of crap).  Although I don't know if either mask would wind up muffling your voice a bit.  They should be cheap, so you don't stand to lose much, but it might be worth swallowing your masculinity and taking Quickman's advice.

Wish I could offer something more constructive, but I was actually wondering "what's a good mic" myself.

So, parental controls are on instead of off by default, and this is news-worthy?

It's about as big a deal as Windows Firewall.  They're both ineffective, inconvenient pieces of crap that are left on by default to provide some half-assed protection for idiots, but are still user-controlled in the end.

"The new initiative is in advance of the imminent convergence of the internet and television on one large screen in the living room."
I don't see how that's at all relevant.  If anything it probably helps the "protect the children" issue; seeings how in most households the living room TV is a generally less secluded place than the computer.

I'm reminded of ZX Advent and our massive excitement at converting some energy...

All Legends games had height variance.  That said, it's nice to know that Capcom, unlike the rest of the world, doesn't bury their heads in the sand when something old happens to actually work.  Nintendo could stand to remember that with Mario Kart.

Hm, that particular 'redesign' of Sephira/Aero was actually a piece of fanart by Score, a member of the Capcom Unity forums.   :)
More specifically, Score drew it, Ian colored it (from what I've seen Score seems to be more adept at colored pencils; reminds me of myself years ago).

It's on his DeviantArt page.
