Gaming / Re: Super Mario Collection (aka Allstars) slated to return soon

If Vix's post told it all then I might agree.  But knock 20 bucks off for the actual US release and throw in the soundtrack and artbook?  That's worth it for me.  If only the U.S. Club Nintendo would put up that damn SFC Classic Controller...

My only concern is that, with no World in the collection, the art book will most likely suffer a lack of Yoshi.  But oh well.

Major bump, but this may be worth it for some:

Following the ludicrously fast sell-out of All-Stars in the US, it was oft-reported that Nintendo was "considering" a reprint.  Toys R Us is seemingly confirming this: they're taking pre-orders for All-Stars with a March 13th ship date.

If you missed the 6 hours or so that the game was readily available in mid-December, say because you were trying to come up with reasonably priced Christmas gift ideas for people who failed to heed them (it sucks having a non-gaming family sometimes), then you might want to check it out.

eBay sharks and their victims are already throwing a shitstorm.

Zero Collection is an unusual case: "Easy Scenario" is in fact "Ultimate Mode", the way I PREFER to play the Zero-series games due to Inticreates' tendency to fake difficulty by handicapping the player (I clear Hard Mode once solely for bragging rights).  In the stand-alone games it's something you earn, sans Z2, where it's actually new content.

Once again, labels are labels.

You could do that, or you could eliminate weaknesses only where the insertion is necessary.  PU just rewrites the entire thing; only two RMs share their old weaknesses (one of which, CutMan, is irrelevant in the teleporter rematches anyway).

Shadow Blade wants a word with you, BTW.

Okay, maybe it's just because I have a very strong personality and don't understand other's mindset....but if you're bothered by peer pressure from GAMERS...ESPECIALLY ONLINE, then not being able to deal with them making fun of you for playing Easy Mode is the least of your worries in life!  -_-
Personally?  I don't give a damn.  But the general attitude is taken as a consensus among the hardcore, and in turn, actually shapes game development.  See my Contra 4 example earlier.

See, now you're implying things I never said. I only said normal mode is enough for a starting point.
Point taken (although I don't think where you start is nearly as important as where you end up, but whatever).  As grueling as PU's Normal is, Easy can be downright patronizing.  The game really lacks any proper balance.

Case in point: Yellow Devil.  We go from "you have 2 body lengths to maneuver the shitstorm" to "Yellow Devil just stands there and takes your punishment".  Seriously?

Quote
I'm pretty sure you can heal just fine in Normal.
Then I don't know what Normal Mode you were playing, because I was referring to the teleporter room, which is devoid of health capsules.  No other MegaMan game expects you to clear 8 Robot Masters under such conditions, barring the aforementioned Hard Mode of the PS1 remakes.

Hell, EASY MODE doesn't even have any healing in the teleporter room.  It's just that the bosses are stupid enough that it doesn't matter.

The teleporter room with Mega Man is bearable on any difficulty since at least you have the weakness weapons, but with any of the other playable characters not named Overpowered Playable Blues...good god, I don't think I've ever gotten farther than that with any of them, I can't even imagine how the hell I'd do it with Gutsman and Oilman.
Since the main draw of the game is its gazillion expansions, including player selection, the fact that we're talking about 2 players out of 11 isn't very encouraging.

There's also a certain lack of foresight, IMHO, in screwing with the weapon order while simultaneously presenting unlock mechanics which encourage the player to ignore it their first time through.  You'd think Oil Man and Time Man could have simply been inserted into the existing weapon order, but not so.  And it wasn't until the teleporter room that I found that out.

And peer pressure from fellow gamers, and bandwagoning to fuel gigantic overreactions every time our presuppositions are disrupted.

I do believe the 100%'s across all the robit masters let's me say that.
Your merit in gameplay and your judgement of game balance are two different things.  You fail at logic if you truly believe any worthwhile gamer should be ready and willing to tackle all 8 Robot Masters with absolutely no healing opportunities available as an every-day play session, let alone do so within Powered Up!'s claustrophobic screen ratio.  The completionist in me demanded that I buster-only all RMs in my first run, and even after that the teleporter room was STILL hell.

That level of difficulty is ordinarily reserved for Complete Works' Hard Mode, and far surpasses any X-series "Hard/Xtreme" mode ever offered.  "Normal" is just a label, nothing more.

One nice thing about Legends: Easy Mode isn't even there until you've cleared Normal.  It exists, but it exists strictly to have fun and to flaunt your overpowered self.  We could learn a thing or two from that.

Okay, on MM10's Easy Mode, it is pitifully easy, yes.  At the same time, if you like helmetless Rock or ProtoMan, it's a nice way to dodge being punished.  Really hate this double-damage crap.  But yeah, Easy Mode is a bit of an opposite extreme.

Also, "slip of the finger" is not the only way to die.  You may also die if, accustomed to Normal's disappearing block patterns, you take the lower route of Sheep Man's stage and an Easy-specific block appears DIRECTLY OVER YOUR HEAD as you attempt to make the jump.

...

Easy Mode mockery is fun.  I laugh at myself as much as I laugh at others.  Hey, we can't all be good at every game.  Japanese bunny girls laugh at my weakness in traditional fighters, won't stop me from ripping your ass apart in Smash.

That said, there is a certain mentality shift that's gone on since the onset of the internet.  Contra 4 really opened my eyes to this, compare it to the original.  It USED to be some cheat for a zillion lives made you feel special for knowing how to access secret stuff.  It could even be considered a standard part of the "core" gamer's lives, and whether you needed it or not, it took the pressure off.  Now, you need HELP?  You can't just no-damage clear it all?  Then you must suck, and must be punished with an incomplete game. ::)

Normal is the only mode to start on... unless you're five years old. Otherwise, the A.I. is set to a level that's just standing around with maybe a rare attack here or there, or some other idiotic changes.

NOBODY is to make that statement until they have cleared Powered Up!'s Copy Robot stage as Roll.

And remember, this is "Mr. Cleared Gate's Lab Unarmored On Xtreme Mode Just To Smite The Ignorant Masses" talking.

I am off Wed we can try then?  After 6 or 7pm? I just have to remember to show up now that I posted this.
Mrs. Shell claims the TV at 8 on Wed, so that's a fairly narrow window (you're Eastern U.S. too, right?).  Nevertheless, I'll be there.

I'd imagine if a creature has arms through the entire radius of its body, it's liable to make approaches and prediction difficult.

Having completed RM2CW's gallery, I'm now back on Monster Hunter Tri.

Diablos is kicking my ass. O:<  I swear, once the quest is cleared, NEVER AGAIN will I battle him in single-player.

People who publish fan-submissions tend to give all ends of the talent spectrum a shot, merely emphasizing the better ones, not posting them exclusively.

As far as I'm concerned this is as random as a lottery ticket.  The "judges" are probably just there to make sure the drawing follows the rules.
(to that end, I hope they're familiar enough with MM10 to know a Roboenza cure when they see one, or mine's going to look really wrong)

The lack of item drops is a [sonic slicer] on RM2CW's Hard Mode, that's for sure.  If you intend to tackle Wily's castle without Continuing, there is no room for error with Crash Bombs and very very little with your Items.

And crap, 8 bosses with no healing.  Memories of Powered Up are coming back to haunt me.  Wood Man, Quick Man, and Air Man are the tricky ones for me.

Waiting paitently for RCW 3.
As am I.  3 is my favorite.

I love 2, though I think 9 could have stood to kiss its ass a bit less.  And wow, man, you're better than you give yourself credit for if ProtoMan is your Normal character.  He's the harder one for me to use, due to the whole double-damage/knockback thing.  I might like him better if his shield worked on the ground instead of the air; jumping to block just never stops feeling awkward.

Rockman 2 Complete Works is out today in the US!

Updated zee list

For the sake of getting the complete experience I am giving the arcade music a shot.  But honestly, the NES tracks are just too iconic, and in some cases outright superior (Title, Bubble Man), so I expect to revert back to them for replays.

Much agreed.  I pretty much just go to single-player to beef up my item inventory/money.  Online is a blast.

Speaking of which, Lou, you and I need to arrange a time to hook up, so I can at least register ya.

1491
Really?  Lucky break for me.  I did two drawings, had to scrap the first because it was landscape and not portrait.  Then I found out all-too-late last night that my computer refuses to tolerate images of too high a resolution, thwarting my amateur colorizing attempts. o-O

This'll give me time to take another crack at it.

Got my Reaverbot in, but sadly didn't have time to color it.

Indeed it does.

I, for one, love Dash Clawing. Like Sato mentioned, I like using the shoulder buttons for switching weapons!
I dash-clawed until I bought X Collection.  By then MMZ had warmed me up to shoulder button dashing, plus I got the GCN version, so I made the switch.

It's been pointed out that the rear touch pad opens up the possibility of "pinch" movements between the two.  I'd probably consider that about as significant as DualShock 2's pressure-sensitive buttons, or Nintendo's analogue+digital override triggers.  As in, maybe one or two games will use it for something interesting.

it's not in the way
That may depend on hand size (I'm ginormous, ask PB) and your tendency to pull the Super NES dash-claw maneuver.  At least it certainly does with the Dual Shock controllers for me.

1495
And RS-MM is awful anyway, dunno why would you care about it.
*gives him ZEE UPPERCUT!!*

Don't diss the plasma power, man.

1496
Actually, no, Ariga-Mega was NOT excluded.  Which is what makes it all the more weird that RS was.

From MMN:

In this specific case, Ariga is a good friend of UDON. If people want to draw Ariga’s version of characters, I’m sure he would be thrilled. Though really, Ariga’s characters are the classic versions just drawn in his own style.

Maybe they're concerned that RS would fall within the same "other distributors" loophole that nailed BN/SF?  *shrugs*

I see the Apple-vs-handhelds deal as a modern extension of PCs-vs-consoles.  Everyone SAYS the do-everything device will replace the rest.  Everyone is wrong.  What Apple is doing is getting gaming out to people who probably don't want to carry a dedicated gaming machine in the first place.  So much the better, because in their fight to survive, the giants might remember some old tricks that they'd previously forgotten (like REPLAY VALUE, though Nintendo's better with this than most).  Me, I want a games machine first, though I'd be lying if I said that decent music/movie/internet wasn't fun.

The PSP2 looks awesome, although I won't be getting one, since it wasn't that long ago I got a 3000, but it looks like a respectable machine.  More so than I was expecting, since earlier reports suggested that it would be download-only and that appears to not be the case.  Lack of UMD is I think a necessary evil.  Sony learned that they simply cannot support a disc drive and a graphics powerhouse drawing off of the same battery, even if it is preferable to the Go.  It annoys everyone and rewards the pirates who hack the thing to run off of memory cards.  My only concern is how long the original PSP's network support is going to last, seeings how it is at current my only link to PSN.

I could tear into the inconvenience of size and the ease with which the analogue sticks would get mangled, but let's be honest; ANY model of the PSP requires a carrying case for rugged journeys.  Most of us as gamers learned around the original GBA that as the screens get prettier, non-clamshell designs have to be treated like glass in order to maintain them.  If it didn't phase Sony last time, it won't this time.

Dual Analogue is lost on me, as it has always been.  The most significant use of a right stick I ever did was Cinnamon's Action Trigger in XCM.  I'm really not sure how Dual Analogue is supposed to work with only two shoulder buttons, but if that's what the PSP crowd wants, good for them.

I'm sure the NGP will be expensive.  Not necessarily proportionate to the tech, though (in terms of comparison to the 3DS), since Sony is generally willing to sell at more of a loss than Nintendo.  They just have to watch that they don't take it to such an extreme as to launch some tech-giant that they cannot support at a reasonable price, as happened with the PS3's launch.  In fact, I'm kind of wondering how money is going to influence things on both the consumer and developer sides.  Everyone was bitching about sale price and dev costs when the 3DS was announced, and you KNOW the NGP is going to surpass that.  Probably won't do the battery any favors, either, depending on exactly how high they're willing to jack that price up.

1498
The Ruby-Spears MegaMan exclusion had me raising a few eyebrows.  Isn't that really just an art style?  Granted, Roll's a pretty loose interpretation, but still.

Usually I just hook up to the lowest-numbered Rookie server that isn't completely full.

Currently HR 17.  One Urgent Quest to go before I match you.  Also, just picked up a USB keyboard two days ago.  Solely for that game.  XD

This is gonna get easier for you HS after the 3ds comes out. One code for the system and done.
Amen.  Easier for EVERYONE.  There's no excuse for Nintendo to have not already been doing that on the Wii, having to re-register the same person for different games drives me bonkers.

You may want to just link Nintendo's video page, for those with more temperamental computers/browsers.  Google Chrome for some reason didn't like the links you posted.
