Every company is always "working" on a successor, it's just a question of what gets scrapped and what makes it to announcement/release.

And if the Cafe rumors are to be believed, then the 3DS-controller idea sounds good to me.  I mean, really, why the hell not?  That question was in the back of my head ever since the whole controller-with-a-screen thing first came up.  All the 3DS is missing is an extra stick, and some of us barely use those (most intense C-Stick use for me was Command Mission).

Yep, I know.  I bro and I enjoyed the gold cartridge goodness back in the day.

Blue blood was news to me, though.  Sounds funky.

Well, the controls are similar to the Classic Controller settings on the Wii Virtual Console, so I guess we will adjust just fine. ^^
I rebelled against VC OoT due to the Stone of Agony being permanently disabled, plus the general political correctness of the later revisions (we can't have a CRESCENT MOON ON THE MIRROR SHIELD, it might be offensive).

Even if I hadn't, GCN is my controller of choice for N64 VC games.

My only concern, really, is that Capcom's marketing big-wigs will stop to consider how the prototype's sales compare to the e-Shop's in general, rather than holding some unrealistic absolute mark on an unproven outlet.  We don't need a repeat of the PSP games.

It ought to help that the asking price is a mere 2 bucks, though.  That has to kick the crap out of any competition they'll face value-wise; on DSiWare it gets you a frikkin round of Tic-Tac-Toe.

1355
The easy solution: BUY IT!

1356
Well, it's a minor point either way, just fun to think about.  I'm considerably more concerned with whether or not I'll be able to break a Thwomp by dropping a Tanooki-statue on it.

EVERY sequel that "emulates a predecessor" still does something different, especially during a hardware shift.  I could rip into Contra 4 just as easily as (if not more so than) I could Sonic 4.

You know, I miss the days when "pointless movement quirks that nobody would ever find unless doing intentionally" were something fun, rather than something to [sonic slicer] about.  You know, like the Super Mario Bros. vine dance, or Contra's electric fence.

Only if you release the pad/stick.  That video is basically a dozen different ways of showing off the same two issues:
1. Sonic is at all times equipped with midair-brakes when your pad/stick is neutral.
2. When low on momentum, hills will cancel your movement outright instead of resulting in a back/forth motion as in the Genesis.

The first is awkward for veterans, but workable (and even exploitable; jump to quickly stop).  The second is a MEANINGLESS aesthetic issue, not that I expect much from a group that's still bitching over eye color.

I feel so privileged that I got that because of 90's childhood.
Anyone who reads the Archie comics would get that, but props to you anyway. 8)

SatAM was scootin' and rootin', for sure.

I'm gonna wager $300-350.  Nintendo's pushed the envelope a bit higher than usual lately, but I don't see them launching a $400 console.  Recall, if you will, that everyone and their dog claimed $300 for the 3DS (based on currency exchange rates, which was senseless).

1361
From a strictly gameplay standpoint this is a pretty hard question to answer.  I can appreciate speed, power, cuteness, all ends of the spectrum pretty much.  Generally I just tend to gravitate towards those who are among my favorites as characters, and adapt myself to their gameplay.  Some are more difficult than others, though (Bowser in Brawl, just......WHY?!).

And it depends on the game.  For Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, the speed/power/low defense thing seems obviously my schtick as I play the ever loving hell out of Zero (even though Trigger is the reason I bought the game).  In Smash, Yoshi wins out as a matter of personal favoritism, though in general the mobile characters seem easier for me to pick up (even if I do enjoy the occasional high-powered Ike romp).  Yeah, I fell in love with Marth in Melee as much as the next gamer.

Speed isn't always everything, though.  Sometimes, it doesn't matter if you take half a year to walk across the stage, when your character's power is so insane as to utterly decimate them.  Case in point:

(Godzilla Unleashed, Wii, for those unaware)

1362
Sweet news.  I'm curious as to how the tail will handle, considering that melee attacks in 3D Mario is pretty much a default feature.

I REALLY hope we see the return of Tanooki and Hammer suits...

Brawl's online is far from seamless, but its instability is exaggerated IMHO.  As a "stick-and-move" fighter, as OBJECTION MAN once put it, lag is considerably less intrusive to the battle than it is in traditional fighters such as TvC, where it renders the proper input of special attack commands nigh impossible.

Further it's not THAT unusual to get a clean connection in Brawl, particularly in 2-3 player matchups.  4 players may hold for a while but are destined to get shot to hell within a few rounds.

1364
That train of thought is obvious, but just because you adopt somebody as their "guardian" doesn't mean that you assume the father/son label.  The relationship of an adopted family member is whatever the family decides it is.  We have Trigger's point of view regarding Barrel (grandfather), and no other family member conflicts with that.

1365
Except that he calls Barrel "Gramps".

1366
It'd be more appropriate to call them cousins than siblings, if you think about it (though the specifics of the family relationships didn't come to light until L2).  Trigger was adopted by Barrel, not Roll's parents.  They'd have disappeared when Trigger and Roll were around 4-5 years old.

1367
No surprise that I didn't make it - I'm a total n00b when it comes to coloring.  It was a fun rush anyway, though.  And congrats, Koi!  Can't wait to see your stuff!

I love the hardcover art, but I think I'll stick to the paperback, seeings how between shipping charges and Amazon discounts the difference between the two is near $70.  -_-

1368
2nd favorite to me, after the Servbot-pool in Misadventures.  Awesome, nonetheless!

I picked a hell of a day to not check the internet.  On the scale of wee to not-so-wee, this news as FRIKKIN HUGE!!!

Yep, I'm buying (and favoriting) that prototype game the split-second it is available, for sure!

Is it just me....or im really seeing Protoman in that guy?
Definitely not.  He's doesn't strike me as being quite as cool/distant as ProtoMan, though.

I was actually thinking, give him a scarf, and we have our Legends version of PB. 8D

Why is Rock's last name different from Roll and Barrel's? Where did the name Volnutt come from anyways?
I would guess they were straightforward to Trigger about him being adopted (though likely less so as to how Barrel found him), seeings how the various revelations to him in L1/L2 don't seem to shake his family relations.

Nobody really knows where the name "Volnutt" came from.  Some speculate it may have something to do with Banner (Roll's dad), considering that Roll shares her last name with Barrel, who is Matilda's father.

I still wish Design B had Design A's color scheme, but still this put a smile on my face!
Same.  I voted for A for the sake of color, but B struck me as the best in terms of line art.

Is it just me or was that mock-up done using Super Mario World screenshots?

Hay guys, remember when Nintendo delayed a finished Zelda game for an entire year so they could make it a launch title for the Wii?

Man, that sucked.
...no, that was pretty awesome.
Besides, it was nice to have a Wii game that actually looked as good as a high-end GCN game, damn lazyass developers (The Force Unleashed makes me want to poke my eyes out).

Anyway, the same thing wouldn't work here, considering that a pretty major hook of Skyward Sword is its Motion Plus use.  Migrating that to traditional controller+touch screen would be a hell of a buzz-kill.  And God knows Nintendo needs to do a better job of actually supporting their peripherals anyway (I weep for Wii Speak).

Starfox or F-Zero
One would hope that Sega would return for F-Zero, given the amount of ass they kicked with GX, so if it's non-Metroid, then I'm seriously leaning towards Star Fox.

IMHO it'd have been more comfortable for X and A to be your items, Y your sword, and B your action button.  But oh well, I'm sure I'll adjust.  Game looks orgasmic.

there's a Boss Rush in this game.
F*@#! YEAH!!!

-I'm not claiming ... that MK dominates all metagames, I just don't see why he wouldn't do as well.
I'm reading that as contradictory.  "As well" *IS* dominating, because in tournaments, that's what Meta Knight does.  He exclusively holds the "god tier", and he is literally considered to have absolutely no counters or disadvantages in character matchups, at all.  He "dominates" tournament play, and he is not "as well" in Brawl as a whole in that he does not outperform the entire rest of the cast to so radical a degree as he does in tournament play.  Whether he's weaker or the others are stronger, call it what you like, but the core issue is a matter of comparison and not of absolute.

And believe me, Solar, when a random wifi game is imbalanced, you notice.  You run into PLENTY of idiots who will try to exploit that imbalance without understanding how to do so properly, but you still notice.  I've seen it in Pokemon, Mario Kart, and Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, to name a few.  Hell, disregarding characters, I even see it in Brawl's stage selection (there is a reason that, no matter how flexible tournament rules become, Final Destination remains as infamous as it does).

The Gamecube was definitely more powerful than the PS2.  I think the original XBox still outperformed it, though.

Really, the GC's main downfall was that the storage medium they used was horrible.
In all fairness Microsoft sits on a pile of money generated by Windows, which gives them quite an edge.  But yeah, correct on all points.

There were loading times in Brawl? I really didn't feel it.
Brawl has a long load when first starting the game, otherwise it seems pretty negligible to me.  I've already seen 3DS games with more intrusive loading than that.  Not to mention, God help you if you find yourself in need of the Wii System's SD Card menu.

- Nintendo considering launching Skyward Sword around the same time Wii's successor hits
I sure hope not.  The Wii's need of solid software is only going to grow more intense as people start anticipating new hardware, and if Nintendo's showcasing a power boost with the thing (as in, no easy generation-leaping ports like with Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario), then that's all the more reason Skyward Sword should come sooner rather than later.  I'm seeing too many late-lifecycle DS games already that are only suffering for it, be it in sales or in whether or not they get localized at all.

I'd be wary of that, the Wii tried that and we got [parasitic bomb] like "Chicken Shoot". What they should try and do is step up QA to keep freeware/cheap/lazily made garbage from reaching the console.
I don't think the Wii held back on releases so much as the gaming populace rebelled against Nintendo cutting their hype trains short.  Brawl was basically the last non-Zelda Wii game to get a long pre-release media showing, Mario Kart kinda missed the mark, and Nintendo started their ninja-secrecy launches from there.  It left the gap feeling worse than it really was, IMHO.

Now, with the 3DS, they've definitely held their best foot back and I'm getting annoyed with it real fast.  Pilotwings was welcome, but they could have done much more with it.  Kid Icarus can't come soon enough.

Damn straight.  *IF* they get back to the formula that actually works, anyway.  Flight game sequels seem to always run into trouble when some idiot decides that flight isn't enough.  >.>

What issues? Their saves being 60 blocks or so? why do those saves take so much damn space anyway? I've always wondered about that.
More like digital download issues.  WiiWare games are subject to an extremely tight filesize limit, which is why MMU (before it was canned) was expected to skip it.  Half a gig works fine for saves, but for a collection of N64 games, let alone original titles, you run into some serious storage issues.  That's also why you basically never see post-release content developed for any Wii game.

Thankfully, with the 3DS, Nintendo had the good sense to design it to stream off of external storage (the SD card).  The Wii was not, which leaves its "SD menu" as only an automated file swap with the system's flash memory, thus requiring one to leave empty space on an already tight system storage as well as grossly inflating the load time.  It's one of my pet peeves with the system.

An L3 Prototype Version, eh?  I wonder, if they're going to the trouble of rating it, might we be looking forward to a wifi distribution?

Sounds like a pipe-dream, I know, but so did L3 itself.  *shrugs*

I think it's funny how so many people are seeing the matter of horsepower as a radical departure from Nintendo's established style, when their benchmark for performance comparisons is nearing 6 years old.

Anyways, on the controller, I see the bizarro-Nintendo-hook here as being that the controller has a screen in the first place.  That it's touch-sensitive is just a Nintendo expectation these days.

NO WAY is the touch screen alone replacing all other inputs.  The thing wouldn't have sticks, which were already confirmed, if that was the case.  Besides, Nintendo got a lesson in that waaay back when the DS first launched, with Super Mario 64 and the DSphat's thumb strap that everyone forgot about.

I'll say now the same thing I said when the Wii remote was first shown years ago: If it's backwards compatible, it must accept old or comparable controllers.  End of story.
