Still pretty ambiguous.  Anything past the 20th or so could easily be considered "towards the end".

Further, I believe Nintendo's stated that it is not possible for SpotPass to automatically update the 3DS prior to the e-Shop, so if I gotta manually update then I DAMN WELL expect to be told the soonest that I can do so.

Touche, Flame.

You imply that Capcom has actually learned that lesson at all.
Maybe they haven't perfected it, but I'd say that there's been a significant drop in in-game localization blunders since around Z2, and that from X8 onward the game instruction manuals aren't nearly as ludicrous, either.

Most translation issues brought up since then are either a questionable choice of terms (Mega the lab assistant being most infamous), or a matter open to interpretation, as opposed to the sheer nonsense that pops up throughout X5, destroying and distorting several key plot points (hey, remember X's old evil comrade?).

Well, it is a tweet...

It almost serves as a "rub in" to the GnR song X3 ripped off.
Rosered's stage is considered a visual GnR reference as well (roses with gun-shaped buildings), so that's two that came from Japan.  I can also appreciate one wanting to stick to the general musical motiff that the series is known for (wish we had a bit more of that mentality in ZX and Powered Up...), but at the same time I'm not sure who in their right mind considers Mattrex more "palatable" than Burn Dinorex.

Either way, Zero's dumbed-down attack names concern me more.

I'm curious who else was involved in X5's translation/localization, and how well if at all they "knew the game", as Alyson says she did not (take from that what you will).  Anyone who's tried to dissect the story knows that GnR is the least of X5's translation woes.  Between that and the consistently badly done manuals of pretty much the entire console generation, we these days get a lot of fans who would rather make their own assumptions as to the context of fan-translated japanese sources (LIGHT CREATED THE VIRUS!) than even look at an english localization.  And really, a PROPER localization team should have access to relevant background information (as I believe I have seen stated in the L3 Devroom already) rather than simply throwing them the script and be done with it.

EDITS: Found it.

In English, these seemingly minor details can change the entire structure of a sentence or at least change certain words, so the localizer must always be well informed on the surrounding context and general scenario. Otherwise the text might end up inconsistent with the actual game content.
I'd say that was a lesson which Capcom learned the hard way.

Shark-bait - Games which are EXTREMELY tempting to hack on account of certain items, tactics, or unlock requirements being insane/unrealistic/excessively meaningless time-killing.  Examples:
-Mew, and other "event-only" Pokemon back before we had Wifi.
-For that matter, pretty much the entire IV/EV system post-3rd-gen Pokemon.
-1-star ranking 150cc on Mario Kart Wii.  I got a perfect score and the game still letter-graded me [tornado fang]ing B.
-Red rings in Sonic Colors.  Being the ONLY game to feature Super Sonic in 3D stages, it is the ultimate gaming cocktease.
-Pretty much every Alatreon body break in Monster Hunter Tri, should your choice of weapon be anything other than a bowgun.  Webbing alone is hell; I don't see how anyone after a Skypiercer keeps from destroying the totality of existence.

Dragonite power! - My typical Pokemon battle cry, testament to my favorite 'man, and the fact that I absolutely refuse to build a team without him.

...he's not wrong.

So, the month of May officially begins on Sunday.  Wish NoA would just spit out when that dang e-Shop is launching already.  >.>

Lucario doesn't bug me, I actually enjoyed using him in Subspace Emissary.  What bugs me is the number of people who think he plays even remotely similar to Mewtwo; he doesn't (if anything, Zelda is the closest match).

So among all this Nintendo console fan-gasming, is it too out of line to ask for a Rogue Squadron 4, with controller-based targeting computer?  And, for that matter, "2P gunner" options for Snowspeeder, B-Wing, Millennium Falcon, and Lambda Shuttle?

The next time Nintendo pours some Liquid Schwartz into my hype train, they DAMN WELL had better throw in some Mewtwo action!

A Hyrule-branded system 3 months after launch?  That would be a kick in the nads to early adopters.

Still awesome, though.

Well, I wasn't referring to the key mechanic.  Hated that part.  I'd rather ye olde hidden alcove with giant ring portal.  *shrugs*

1335
Or it may mean that it'll give CoA's censors a lot to think about.

Well, ZX Advent got away with E-10 IIRC, so here's hoping.

Well, that's one area where STH4 actually delivered.

I never minded the "Dragonball" story approach that the Adventures took.  You could, however, always blend the two as Heroes did.  Have the Special Stages unlock a Last Story scenario (just without the mandatory game replays that Heroes and Shadow are infamous for).

That or if you want to grab a new pop-up sidescroller, as opposed to waiting for the e-Shop to apply said effect to old games.

But yeah, for Rabbids fans, it's well worth the purchase.  More so than the Wii version, IMHO, if only because four minigame compilations of the same franchise wear a bit stale for me (and I was none too fond of TV Party's menu organization/lack thereof).

I swear I will tar and feather every moron who accused Other M of being sexist...  Because GOD FORBID a female game character should be concerned with anything other than killing stuff.

Well, I got a 3DS.  Strictly for getting MML3P next month.  Because I am a sucker.

Shame I have nothing to play on it in the meantime.

At least it looks pretty?
I assume you're not into fighters, since that's the easy recommendation?

Pilotwings (flying), Ridge Racer (driving), and Rabbids In Time (platforming) are all solid, though I agree the definitive "killer app" has yet to arrive.

You know that, I know that, but outside of that? The general gaming population will likely not be following it that close, or perhaps not even care.
The general public is not reading "prototype" as synonymous with "demo".  That's you, me, and the rest of the fanbase talking.  Most of Capcom's texts that I've read lately are straying away from the latter, perhaps for the very reasons you mentioned, trying to dodge the "trial" mentality.  I suggest we do the same.

Further, I feel obliged to point out, that the reading of "hype" as synonymous with "sales" is also fan-based.  Take notice of something: Every L3 Prototype text takes a moment to build up the Devroom; both that existing contributions will be present in the Prototype, and encouraging further input after playing.  Point being, they're using the Prototype to push the Devroom.  To be clear, there is no doubt in my mind that sales of the prototype will impact Capcom's decision, that's just common sense; but I think there's more to it than that.  They're also still using the Devroom to gauge interest.  So fans, not only do you need to buy the damn thing, but go to the Devroom to discuss your experience.

Is it too much to ask that people actually know what they're bitching about?
...nevermind, stupid question.

So once you're done with the game, you earn the "developer's right" to break it.  Works for me.

I'd say unlock Super with a partial red ring completion and Hyper for 100%.

In all honesty, though, I *HATED* the red-ring mechanic.  Sonic is simply not the gameplay style where "search for out-of-the-way-trinkets" works; as awesome as Super Sonic in Colors was I got very, very frustrated on my way there.

But they haven't used him or the other transformations since S3&K. I want that to change, and at the same time not really expecting it to.
There's a club for that.  It's called, "Everybody", they meet at the bar.

Legends 3 Prototype first, general shop system improvements later.

WHEN, DAMN YOU?! O:<

Was the Rabbids game awesome? Haven't had a chance to check any reviews.
Opinions vary.  I'd say it kicks the crap out of Rabbids Go Home, but I don't envision many 3DS late-adopters will feel the need to backtrack to it.

First of all check controls in the manual; the game doesn't bother telling you how to run until you're halfway through it, and neglecting that will make the first half drag a bit.  It's a little lacking in variety (61 stages across only 4 time periods; no "bosses" to speak of), and doesn't feature the best record-keeping (can't see cleared trophies/missions without selecting the stage; no video gallery).  Still, the visuals are crisp, the Rabbids are zany as ever, the easter-egg unlock requirements are reasonable, there's a gazillion costumes to wear in-game (can mix-and-match head and body parts) and the game's overall handling is solid.  Challenge is pretty low; health is generous and extra lives are plentiful, though you may find a tricky death trap here and there.

1344
The "deliberately doom it" scenario sounds to me like an internet-fueled overreaction, but that's just my opinion.  I read it, and I remember the Metroid Other M bitchery about how Team Ninja was killing Samus through sexist stereotypes.

What happened the last time a Legends-series demo came out, anyone?  Yeah, that's right, it contained original content that remained JAPAN-EXCLUSIVE.  I consider us fortunate as hell that the opportunity to pick it up even exists, much less that it'll be available over Wifi as opposed to some E3-exclusive kiosk that maybe 0.001% of the potential audience will have access to.

And I've said this before in other threads, and I'll say it again:  I'm sad to see MMU cancelled, but not THAT sad.  The fact that the previous two Classic-series games harken to 2 as the series holy grail dampens the impact of a rebranded console-based Power Up 2, and I'm more than a little sick of Classic-series games not allowing you to slide.

I think it's more of a "if people pay for this, they must truly care for the future of this series" approach, thus greenliting. Instead of downloading it just because it's free and taking advantage. I have a habit of downloading most free demos on PSN just because it's available.
It's a valid point.  I downloaded Flipnote Studio for the full and sole reason that it was free.

Remember, this is Nintendo's shops we're talking about; $2 is the value they put on a Goddamn clock.  On a system that A. ALREADY HAS A CLOCK, and B. you would NEVER leave open when not in use in the first place.

This is especially true if they label it a PROTOYPE or a DEMO. Normal people will go; "pay for a demo?! screw you!!"
It's a name game, and anyone who's been in sales for a month if even that will tell you that it's a valid tactic.  "Prototype" and "demo" may mean the same thing to the free-thinking minority, but the mass of consumers think differently.  "Demo" is a freebie trial.  "Prototype" is some forbidden fruit that would ordinarilly stay behind closed doors.  Hence, the game is called "prototype version".

*wink, wink*

Going along with this is the fact that it includes debug features as an unlockable.

Got that last gold trophy in Rabbids 3D, so now I've unlocked all gallery items.

Near as I can figure, the "mission mode" unlocks absolutely nothing, so I guess it's back to Super Street Fighter IV for my 3DS action, till the e-Shop is out and the L3 Prototype dominates my life.

In the mean time, beefing up my BRSTM library for use in Brawl with Riivolution.  Added some Star Fox music (Venom Course 2, Professor Hanger, and SF2's
Venom Inside
).

More than likely Barrett will be required until Roll and Tron finish the rocket to get Trigger back, but that ought to still be the early-game.

What I'm curious to know is, with the Bonnes seemingly hovering between sides, and Tron being promoted as relatively equal status with Roll and Aero (both navigators for their respective players), will we be seeing any playable-Bonne action during L3?

Cleared every level in Rabbids Travel In Time 3D.  Now I just need some gold trophies (pretty easy to obtain) to unlock all the artwork.  Pity the game doesn't have a movie gallery; to review a clip, you have to re-clear the appropriate stage.

1348
Assuming he did say that, it could easily have meant simply tying up the loose ends that L2 left.

1349
I think he meant if for some reason the prototype sells well and the final game doesn't.

1350
...where in the blue hell did you hear that?

Besides, if X5 didn't make it clear enough, nobody gives a damn when Inafune wants to end a series (and with good reason, given that he defines "finality" as "kill the popular supporting character").
