Which is odd since they did rearrangements of the original tracks for the first two ports.
Typical of most SNES-to-GBA ports; the GBA wasn't made to mimic the SNES's sound processor (which was made by Sony).  All Mario Advance games and MM&B got the same treatment.  IMHO Mario World got the worst of it; the others were solid.

This game may be the underdog of the "Mana" titles, but damn, I love this boss music:

Hearing this goes a long way towards calming my constant urge to raid Capcom's sound archives for unused MHX2 resources:

Mario Party 8.  It's finally been long enough since my last Raving Rabbids minigame collection (I only got Travel In Time on 3DS) that I actually care.  Too bad it came missing the manual, but the in-game art is pretty.

Got DOA Dimensions on 3DS.  Rocks all, in spite of the frequent freeze-frame cutscenes.

All other videos did just that, yeah.  Which makes the new one a hell of a tease.

Ah well, game's still awesome.

Totally fine.

I have a hard copy of the game so I'm all good.
As do I.  But it'd be reassuring to see the games given another crack at the masses, if nothing else to help build anticipation for the new title.

They mentioned the year 2000 being the turning point in terms of Capcom's development contracts and when they started to think that 2-3 years wasn't the end of a video game's life, so maybe we can still see Legends 2 or Misadventures, even if the first one is a no-go.

But I'll tell you, every time the topic of denying a Legends rerelease comes up, we seem to get more questions than answers.  Going by the whole "talent/services pre-2000 weren't secured" logic, how did X4 and MM8 clear the gate?  The "digital distribution" bit could be presented as an explanation, but then that doesn't explain why we didn't see the PSP Legends ports.

I guess Capcom doesn't trust that we'll understand, or keep from raging/harassing over, whatever Legends-specific issues they're having.  Still, the unknown is a killer.

I consider gauging 2D and 3D games against each other to be a matter of apples and oranges.  I too liked Twilight better than OoT (what sane person would argue that Midna DOESN'T kick the crap out of Navi?), but one thing I majorly missed about OoT was Biggoron's Sword.  So I'll be happy when this remake hits.  Even if it isn't QUITE as polished as it could stand to be, it's still worth the upgrade in my book.

10 is INFINITELY superior to 9.  9 has a female Robot Master and a ludicrously overpowered arsenal; whatever else 9 did, 10 did better.

Emulation / Re: Should I install homebrew?
« on: May 22, 2011, 12:54:24 AM »
No good, Anarchy.  Even soft-mods leave "traces", and the use of Any Title Deleter to remove all the hidden crap doesn't change the fact that ATD itself still leaves its mark.  Nintendo will scan for that stuff and charge you extra fees for removing it (very nearly the value of a new console, and that was before the price-cuts).

That said, I believe the risk to be worth it.  I'm a fan of homebrew-emulation; as awesome as the VC is there are still plenty of great titles that it still lacks, and can be homebrew-emulated to perfection (Godzilla Monster of Monsters, Act Raiser 2, Star Fox, Star Fox 2, Yoshi's Island, MMX2, MMX3, and all manners of GameBoy stuff, just to name a few).  Even some classic arcade games like The Simpsons (unfortunately, MM2 Power Fighters doesn't work, and N64 emulation is still sketchy).  Plus, the insane sweetness that is Riivolution, allowing file-replacement hacks to work in conjunction with your original game discs.  You can have LOTS of fun with Brawl and NSMB that way.

If your Wii dies, you're not getting any save data/shop purchases back without a hefty fine.  That's the risk you take, period.  BootMii helps offset it in terms of your system's software getting corrupted (if you have an old enough Wii to install as boot2, that is), but in the event of a hardware failure you'll be SOL.

That's...not a bad idea.  Little late now, though.

FYI, Sakura, the failure of anyone to respond probably has something to do with your lack of detail.

My dad has it on his laptop. It is so much more enjoyable too.
I just got it a few weeks ago (skipped Vista).  It's great, but you'd think Windows Update would handle driver downloads for Microsoft's own hardware.  It doesn't.  My X-Box 360 controller (which I bought for the sole purpose of using as a PC pad) freaked the ever-loving hell out of my USB ports after I unplugged it (I got that constant unknown device connect/disconnect error) until I manually downloaded the driver from their website.

A lot of things can cause that error, I understand, but I figured I'd share my experience just in case.

SOUND OFF IN THE DEVROOM WITH THAT ONE!

Welcome to E3 2010...

Game still looks gorgeous, glad to see that.  Most of the video is stuff we already knew, though the Smash Bros. run mechanic is nice, ought to keep things a lot more active than Metroid Prime Hunters.  Art is lovely.

EASILY Design D.

First off: I LOVE what you guys have done with the buster! The grey-toned backpack looks really cool, too; it distinguishes itself from the rest of the armor without clashing as radically as the old orange one did.

Design D here, easily. The line-art, which was my favorite part of B, doesn't seem to have changed much, beyond the aforementioned backpack and Ishihara-san trying to sharpen up the lower torso. Great work, there, by the way, just don't go too overboard or it'll draw too much attention. XD The new color scheme is awesome; I like that the armor highlights are a different shade than the upper limbs, and I absolutely cannot wait to see how it looks in-game!

Design E I think went a bit downhill. The "bolted" look to the joints convey a sense of basic hinges with limited movement, and clash with the "humanized" appeal that Design C originally offered with the hands and midsection (not a direction I preferred anyway; but the mixed message doesn't help any). Thickening the latter can be read as either padding or as Trigger needing exercise. I like the "belt" look in the rear, and the backpack is sleek, but from the front he still looks conspicuously unprotected.

New Roll: Love it. She looks more professional and ready for hands-on work as a mechanic, but the slanted belt and generally less baggy clothing still leave her with a touch of femininity. Excellent!

I'd strenuously disagree if not for OBJECTION MAN's final point.  The issue of cost is comforting, and if someone on board thinks that's what it'll take to get the game greenlit, then by all means.  But in terms of the public relations, I think the delay in time is hurtful rather than helpful.

It's hard to say without knowing what they're "improving" of course, since there's no real means of weighing the benefit.  But I thought the idea here was for us to see what Capcom's greenlight-team saw?  Further, that whole "early adopter" strategy loses its weight the longer Capcom holds off, and they have (or had) the opportunity for a *HUGE* one-up over any competition in the e-Shop.  By and large the consensus is that the 3DS's "launch window" library is lacking, and most every internet-enabled consumer is looking to June 6 for some sense of pre-OoT relief.  Capcom's name is attached to the definite biggest title thus far (DoA Dimensions is the only thing that comes close to challenging it), and L3 was making rounds among general gaming sites as the most well known e-Shop launch title; had they been there for day one of the e-Shop, when NOTHING ELSE OUTSIDE OF THE VIRTUAL CONSOLE SERVICE HAS BEEN HYPED IN THE LEAST, they'd have indisputably ruled it.  It's going to be a missed opportunity if they delay too long.  Further, the fact that they did this a mere 2-1/2 weeks prior to release is an exceptional buzz-kill, which will only get more frustrating the longer they go without giving us something definitive.

Cappy, we've waited a long time, and yes we can wait a little longer (as EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL as it may be...).  I'm not sure that the rest of the world will, though, so hop to it.

I know I'm usually the optimistic one, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that this concerns me.

If true, they had DAMN WELL BETTER program Cafe to stream off of storage expansions, as the 3DS does with its SD slot.  None of this "automated copying" crap that we got with the Wii.  I know Nintendo's big on durability and minimizing moving parts, but they need to do a better job of long-term storage expansions.  Period.  Recognizing a USB hard drive would be beautiful, though I doubt they'd actually do that.

Okay, you CANNOT YouTube link MMII Air Man without linking Yuu's remix.

The real problem with the MMII GB soundtrack is really just the high pitch aspect of it.
True.  Xtreme1 has the same problem, which you can easily observe by comparing the victory jingle to Xtreme2's (same music, different instruments).

1293
Guess I should start thinking about what free PSP games I want...  I actually don't have any of those four.

1294
That's precisely what I meant. Everything looking like a box is an infinitely better solution than Barret clipping through everything as he makes his way around. Which do you think would cause a larger outroar?
The simple solution would be to limit which walls Barrett can climb.  Which they have to do anyway for their landscaping in the dungeons.  They'll get there.

I honestly see the problem with X7 to be not visuals or any of the models or environments, but a bad engine and overly linear stage layout. AKA bad level design.
Zero's disconnected hair aside, Flame has a good point.  There wasn't a whole lot wrong with X7 visually; hell the character models are considerably better than X8's.  But the only 2D segment worth a damn in the entire game is Stonekong's level.

1295
The point stands.  Every time a new snippit trickles through the line, somebody finds a reason to second-guess it.

The game is not only unfinished but is pre-greenlight; they have publically stated that the Prototype includes access to unfinished areas, and we can see that the dungeons show what they're capable of for the time being.  That should be enough for a $2 game.  ESPECIALLY in light of the fact that we've seen storyboard drawings being used as cutscene placeholders; it should be no small stretch of logic whatsoever that not every featured polygon is necessarily in its final state.  Hell, Tron's in it, and according to the Devroom's character introductions, her design hasn't even been approved yet.

None of this is anything unusual, either.  DASH2 Episode 1 had some rough spots as well; off the top of my head Barrel's model was unchanged from L1.

1296
Who are you kidding?  You've BEEN uneasy about the quality of the final product ever since the concept of the Devroom was first announced.

I'm sure they plan more than we think.  As completely ludicrous as their ideas come off, they are a games-exclusive company, meaning they have less room for error than Sony and Microsoft.  Which really, I believe, is WHY they took to a different direction with the Wii.  If S&M were game-exclusive companies as well, I don't think they would have survived this console generation.  They saw some tremendous hardware issues in their early days; Sony with cost (which later took its toll on compatibility) and Microsoft with build quality.  And I think Nintendo was well aware of the fact that it was simply impossible for them to go along that same path.  If they had released a $600 Blu-Ray Wii HD in 2006, they'd have been toast.  Whether the third party devs want to admit it or not, it was the best thing Nintendo could do for their survival in the industry.

Wouldnt surprise me if some day in the future we begin to get consoles with the same price ranges as new computers.
Oh, it's already happened, it's just that we're provided with alternatives.

Really, though, game systems are NEVER as powerful as PCs besides maybe the day they come out.  I think the fact that devs are using that as their benchmark for gauging the need for new gaming-specific hardware is going to get them into trouble.  Yes, we're at the "typical length" of a console life cycle.  Yes, the issues that make big-budget PC gaming such a hellhole for the devs haven't gone away.  But you know, consoles hit some pretty big budget concerns when last-gen kicked off, both hardware and development, and that's not going to go away either.

I think the fact that Viper didn't notice goes a way as to saying WHY MMU was cancelled...  Really, how much buzz can a MM2 remake get when the last two sequels were already made in its image?

 • Nintendo's next console rumored to be more powerful than PS3 and Xbox 360 (I'll start believing it once I see it in action)
It's no far stretch; Cafe will probably be "marginally" more powerful than 360/PS3 in the same way that the Wii is more powerful than the Gamecube (translation: many games will look worse than 360/PS3 due to half-assed development, regardless of system capabilities).

The 360/PS3 aren't the cutting edge of futureproof technology that many people seem to think.  One of the main lines of reasoning behind the 360 successor rumors is that they're lagging behind PC gaming again in terms of techno capabilities, and those devs are-a-bitchin about it.  They want to strut their stuff, and outside of the PC, they can't.
IGN touched on that a few days back.  http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/116/1167019p1.html

I have to admit, though, I really question where the gaming industry is going in the next console generation.  I don't see a new generation sustaining itself if the demand is coming solely from developers and not from the players, which is what seems to be happening.  Nintendo has it a bit easier in terms of public perception (and harder with the 3rd parties, as usual) on account of their being behind weaker tech than their competitors (certainly nobody would say that the DS didn't need the power upgrade; they just need to get their ducks in a row with software).
