Boy, an M33 update would sure be nice around now. Perhaps DA should get off his ass and make a 5.51 one.

I just want a Samurai Pizza Cat and Speed Racer, as well as Dan or Dante on the Capcom side.

Star Fox really doesn't need a story. You take this group of pilots, you throw Andross in there or some other evil baddie with a horde of space aliens and you have them blow the living crap out of everything that moves in space. Add in Slippy being a useless bastard and Falco being the snide jerk of the group and you got yourself a game. If the formula wasn't broken, don't fix it by trying to make it something else. This is what kills many promising game franchises or at least brings them into ruin.

Need I point out how Mario's story hasn't changed in about 25 years and yet the games are still a blast to play?

(facepalms as Sonic 2006 comes to mind)

...Ugh... why don't story writers understand you don't need a damn love plot whatsoever? It can sometimes work in an RPG, but not in everything. It works in... say... Lunar Knights... since Sabata's main motivation is to [tornado fang]ing murder Duke for killing Ellen, the girl he loved. It doesn't work to have a crappy loveplot between several anthro characters override the main point of the story or to take a notable character and have a really questionable kiss with a one-shot human character.

Thank god Unleashed quickly veered Sonic back on track in terms of goofy storyline with an annoying but strangely charming sidekick character. Star Fox was doomed to this track ever since they merged it with Dinosaur Planet and SF Adventures was born.

(You can see the endings for SF Command here and realize how many involve a romantic plotline of some sort... and the main catalyst usually is Krystal or Slippy's beau, Amanda.)

It's okay... F-Zero GX has Phoenix, the only person manly enough to pose with Captain Falcon and not be destroyed on an atomic level.

As for Star Fox... hey, remember Star Fox 64? Yeah, good times. I want to find the smartass that decided to make Command's story a glorified furry fanfiction and throw them into the path of a subway train. I couldn't stand how much they kept trying to veer the story from "Okay, there's a shitload of aliens trying to kill us all. Let's blow those fuckers up." ...you know... like any Star Fox worth its salt would do... to "HOLY [parasitic bomb] FOX YOU MUST APOLOGIZE TO KRYSTAL AND YIFF HER!!!"

And that is why my favorite ending in that game is the one where everyone but Fox and Falco dies and they go on to enter a spoof of the F-Zero league.

Gaming / Re: Recommendations for the Wii
« on: July 24, 2009, 04:06:41 AM »
I can't really recommend too much... here's my current line up.

Sonic and the Secret Rings - For when it was released, it was an okay title. It's aged pretty horribly though. Still better than Black Knight, though...

Sonic Riders Zero Gravity - Surprisingly not too bad a racer, though the learning curve is a little steep. Rent it as a precaution, though I had some good fun with it.

Super Mario Galaxy - A must.

Super Paper Mario - Quirky, an odd platformer and Mister L. It's a unique little platformer and worth looking into. Replay value isn't too high though.

Mario Kart Wii - Ugh... this game keeps reminding me how awful the series is getting with each passing game. Online's alright if you got friends.

Metroid Prime 3 Corruption - Fantastic game but don't get it right now. Metroid Prime Trilogy will be out soon and you can get this and the other two games fully Wii-Enabled for the price of one. That right there is a STEAL.

Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess -  Fun launch title, meh Zelda game. Another game showing stagnation of the series, but hey... it's the glorified OoT "2" people wanted. I enjoyed the wii remote's use with the bow and arrow and fishing
pole, though sword controls are really crappy. Stick with Gamecube verison if possible.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Honestly? I'm bored of it. But still, people seem to like it so it's a good party title when you have friends over. Be wary of hackers online, though.

Zack and Wiki - Underrated point-and-click puzzler. It's a shame this didn't sell well because, while cutesy looking, some of the puzzles are absolute brain busters. If you can track it down, pick it up.

DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 - If you're coming form BT2, you'll have some pains readjusting to the controls. However, since you're new to the whole thing, you should get them pretty quickly. Fights are pretty fast paced, there's lots of
characters to choose from (though many have similar movesets) and lots to do in game. Online's decent at best, but it's more an afterthought that it's in there.

Mega Man 9 - Duh.

LostWinds - I want to recommend it... I really do... but it's so SHORT! I loved this title, the gameplay, its style... but it ends right after the first boss with a promise that the adventure will continue. It never did, though. It's $10 on Wiiware.

Okami - Like Zelda? You'll probably enjoy this as well. It's similar in vein but it's quite a nice little adventure title.

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams - Avoid it. This thing is an abortion of a reboot for the series. Some of the bosses are more frustrating than they should be due to physics problems and 95% of the game feels really subpar and shallow. It's lacking the rather surprising depth the Saturn game had in how it was a score attack, opting for mini-games. However, the last level, Bellbridge, is exactly what the game should have been from the beginning.

The rest of my stuff is largely VC titles, which is up to your preference for classic games, so I'll omit those. Also, look for No More Heroes.

The current "popular" ones... with the Star Force crowd, anyway, are Ace Noise, Joker Noise, and Harp/Lyra Noise.

I didn't have the patience to fight 20 battles, so I hacked the fight for Dread Joker RR.The plus side is I also hacked the music so it was the Final Boss theme, making the battle much more epic. I also did this for the three sigma bosses and for RogueZZ, before the official way to unlock him was revealed.

That final boss music makes everything so much more awesome.

Can't tell you. I've only fought three of them, though they didn't repeat. I imagine they do after a bit. There's something like eight of them.

Alouette - Lark

That second video clearly demonstrated Dunsparce's utter failure and why it needs an evolution.

Seriously, make it the... whatever type combo it is... surprising evolution candidate for Gen 2, like how Gen 1 has Magikarp to Gyarados and Gen 3 has Feebas to Milotic.

Yeah, early in the game, that music means RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.

Boy was it fun to run into Club Strong Omega while trying to infiltrate Dealer.

Later in the game, that music means a fun boss fight's about to go down.

The sad part is he'll only really stick out in low and mid evolution pokemon battles like this. He'll likely still get absolutely murdered in the fully evolved pokemon meta-game.

817
Farfetch'd so needs an evolution.

Battle was okay for a stage 1 style battle. One thing I noticed is that one second lag time between the pokemon flashing from an attack and the HP being reduced from the bar. I hope they can speed that up a little more. It's not really a major issue, but it only adds to this nagging complaint that the DS games are slower than the other older Pokemon titles. RSE was pretty speedy.

As cool as it sounds to fight Doc, it's really just a demo of the full game using something that should have been in the main game to begin with. That and its DLC crap.

Get the tangible good. You can at least show it off and not be restricted by icky DRM.

Hello, I'm a character that's apparently important to the plot. I help both the heroes and the bad guys when it's convenient for me and scare villagers with my awesome Mercury powers (which mostly amount to using Spout.) I can teleport at will and no one's the wiser. Oh, I'm also now a demi-god but oh [tornado fang] the mountain fell on me and now I'm back to being an ambiguous plot point.

Main villain or bust.

The Satellite Server stuff doesn't affect the roulette shuffle. You'll still get my white cards and the two megas and one giga in my deck.

I can still brother with people online perfectly fine with both things enabled. I just can't battle anyone with both enabled. I've not tried with a friend, though. It just blocks other matches in Random.

I've been having quite a bit of fun with that Meteor Server Lv. 24 card I'm packing in my deck. It's obscenely overpowered and can make short work of almost anything. It's nice having all those destructive chips at my disposal.

I don't mind how overpowered the Finalize forms are as, like Tribe King, they can still be countered and defeated pretty easily. The only hard part is when they're packing the Big Bangs moves, more so with Black Ace since that one can pierce Invis.

I'm still wondering if Noise Card Gear and the Secret Servers will be unlocked later. I'd love to be able to take my little setup online and murder everything.

His insatiable hunger for Mega Snacks has landed him in trouble with Satella Police.

...At least he's not actually dead?

Well, I hope this means there's a book in the making and that I won't have to keep deactivating my Noise Mods and satellite server to fight people online soon.

However, if there's any indication from the Japanese version, when these mods are unlocked (since both fully work in the game) Gemini and Rogue users... ESPECIALLY Rogue users... will become severely overpowered. With Gemini's, you can at least form a five card straight to get Status Guard and never have to worry about being stunned. Rogues are far more annoying because of the barrier, lock-on break and +50 to all sword chips (This makes the Bushido family EXTREMELY deadly.)

825
Acid Illegal is okay. It's great for taking out some noise forms online but otherwise, consider it like the Beast Out Mega Man secret Mega Chip in Battle Network 6.

I've had it for a while now in the U.S. version. It's okay until you get something like SiriusX.
