I only use them when people talk to me.
I usually don't initiate conversation, I don't want to feel like those poor saps who tried starting conversations with me on Facebook only to see me log off 3 seconds later.
Though again if these were people I wanted to talk to they wouldn't be ignored.

Well that's why I turned it off.
I mean, with certain people i'd be willing to talk, but none of those were people on my old facebook.
Its not like a chat program where you can just ignore people you don't want to talk to. Thankfully gaia stopped talking to me.

Online, not a problem. I can talk in groups but I can't talk to people I'm not already acquainted with.

Hell, I remember having to turn off my chat on facebook just so I wouldn't get chatted up by somebody.
Maybe that was one of the reasons my "friends" ignored me.
