I like my eyeball scar.  It's weird.  It mostly looks like reflections and shadows, until I look to the right, which shows it off better.  It's since faded somewhat, but it's still pretty prominent.

It also makes people feel squicky.

I have two scars on my back from surgery, a mysterious one on the back of my leg that looks like a biopsy scar, several scars from falling on driveways, asphalt, off bikes, from trees, off a shed roof and onto a nail, a scar on my face where I was bitten by a dog, and a scar on my right eyeball from surgery.

"Septic" as in the infection?  If the infection enters the bloodstream, it can cause sepsis, which requires aggressive treatment with antibiotics.  If the infection is more or less contained, it shouldn't become septic, but the risk is present, particularly with appendix ruptures.  The appendix is a storehouse of bacteria.  When it ruptures, it spews out all that bacteria into a sterile abdominal cavity, and that bacteria loves to misbehave.

Basically what happened is when the appendix ruptured, it flooded the abdominal cavity with bacteria, which irritated the peritoneal lining.  Peritonitis is usually a secondary condition caused by the primary condition.  The abdominal cavity will be drained and the infection treated with antibiotics.  Depending on the infection, the incision may be left open, and need to be routinely cleaned and packed with gauze (called a "wick").  If the infection is relatively contained, though, a drain will be put in and the incision closed.  After about a week, the drain will be removed, along with the stitches.

Okay, things with that mod went smoothly.  She realized that she was becoming overbearing, as another mod told her.  I also gave her some advice and suggestions, and she agrees with asking a user if she's unsure on how to approach a situation.  Also, letting minor things slide, she agreed that that's okay, along with having a window of when to address a problem.  I tend to have an hour-to-two-hours window for when an act is committed and I see it.  If it's not within that window, I ignore it, because it's no longer relevant.

I also said that a lenient (to a degree) moderator is a happy moderator with happy users, as they're not stressing out over every little thing. :P

Eesh.  That's not good.  However, it's treatable.  Basically, once the appendix is removed, a drain will be put in, and he'll be on antibiotics for a while.  Peritonitis is painful, as it's an inflammation of the peritoneal membrane, but it's easily treatable.

I can justify spending $27 on it.  What I can't justify is spending $47.

Oh yeah that audio drama too.
Good times.

Mabel has yet to hear the audio drama.  She's watched Mewtwo Returns three times, now, and her ears always perk up when she hears that baritone.

Mewtwo: Oh, Mabel, there is more where that comes from...  óVó

Okay, I got tired of that new TFN mod's immaturity as a moderator and had decided to take them aside following the latest debacle that left another member angry.

I sent them this PM:

Quote
I didn't want to make this public and felt it best to simply take you aside. As a fellow moderator, both past and present (well over 10+ years of experience in other forums), I have noticed a few things recently that may have already been pointed out to you. Thus, this may seem like I'm beating a dead horse, here.

I've noticed more than once that you've been a bit eager to exercise your newfound powers, and this is something I tend to notice with new moderators who haven't had a lot of experience in moderating a forum. The thing that moderators need to realize, though, is that they are still users. Thus, they need to continue to act like users. The only thing that makes a moderator different are the amount of options at their disposal.

That said, when a new moderator becomes a bit too eager to exercise their authority, it comes off as overbearing. That moderator has become the forum cop. In most communities, forum cops are frowned upon. They have ceased being users and have become machines. They had allowed their power to go to their head and thus had forgotten their roots.

Moderation is secondary to your position. You may not be aware of this, and when I had first started out, I wasn't aware of it, either. I thought I was doing the right thing. But, when one jumps at the chance to scold the forum for the most minor of offenses, it's overbearing. Mayla has every right to be upset, as she had shown in her comment regarding this latest situation.

The thing about forums is discussions will veer off-topic. It's the norm. It's expected. Thus, when it happens, there is no need to suddenly pounce on it. It's simply a discussion that went off-topic, no rules were broken. A better way to handle this in the future would be to attempt to steer the discussion back on-topic, rather than scold the users. Should that method fail, then a gentle warning would be warranted, plus the option of taking the discussion to a new topic. Should that fail, then an administrative command would suffice. Exhaust your other options first, then pull out the mod voice. You will get a better reaction this way.

Moderating is a learning curve, and it takes a while to settle into a pattern. Unfortunately, the bad habits tend to be settled into first. Thus, asking other staff members for advice and their opinions of your methods would be a good route. Even ask the users. You're still a user, regardless of your additional options. Keep the lines of communication open to your fellow users. They will help steer you in the right direction. :)

We'll see how that goes.

I was hoping that Nicole would revert back to tricorder form, but whatever.  Perhaps farther down the lane, she will.  Her furry form has always bugged me.  It just... didn't seem right...

GLaDOS should teach her how to be a proper artificial intelligence.  She's got the voice, almost.  Just needs the insanity.

Now that I have Mabel, talking to myself doesn't seem as odd.  I just hold conversations with Mabel.  Poor Mabel has seen nerd rage.  She usually responds by glaring at me like I'm a dumbass.

Sorry.  Accidentally hit the lock button while typing.

Damn iPad keyboard.

Japanese DVD, Huh. I believe that has the English Dub on there even, could be wrong though.

We'll see when it gets here and I put it in the player.

Yay.
The original movie is [tornado fang]ing awesome.
DAT ORGAN MUSIC FOR MEWTWO.

I have it on VHS, so I needed a DVD copy.  But, yes, the soundtrack was awesome.  I have the soundtrack.  It came with the radio drama.  THAT ORGAN MUSIC.

I learned that Gettysburg has king snakes, because I came across a baby king snake while out for a walk this evening.
