Roleplay / Re: RP Character Discussion: Love Interests

Anywho, love.

Back in the day, I've seen character profiles that include NPC love interests, usually created by the player for the purpose of their character having a significant other.  In terms of generic dark histories, that love interest may be abusive and may vanish from time to time, only to reappear and abuse the character, who would be strangely nonchalant about it.  That character could be kidnapped, raped, and tortured, but they'll only focus on how mind-blowingly awesome the sex was.

Those types of love interests sometimes coincided with players who had god-mode characters.  The love interest wouldn't necessarily be connected to their god-moder (who was usually either a villain or a main hero), but to a secondary character, the dark-and-broody mysterious trope of the group.

I've also see characters created for the sole purpose of being a love interest of another player's character.  They generally come off as clingy.

MAKE THIS HAPPEN, SUB

I admit to getting pretty damn dark with that Alakazam.  It had some basis in various real-life experiments using brain-computer interface devices.  The point, however, was not just shock value, but an exploration into what goes on in research laboratories.  This has already been alluded to in the games,  anime, and the manga, and I simply took it a step farther.  The science itself is rather fascinating, but it is also seen by many as needlessly cruel, as many experiments use animals.  Thus, it was more of an exploration into ethics, namely where do you draw the line.

Now that we've gotten the histories out of the way, how do those histories affect the character's behavior?  In some of the examples I've cited, particularly the post I linked to, people seem to have used the rapepocalypse history as an excuse to have their character raped over and over again, only to brush it off as being a perfectly normal occurrence.

This can somewhat coincide with Clefant's topic, too, in terms of relationships.  I've seen at least a few character profiles in which the abusive significant other is still a major part of the character's life, and the character is subjected to their whims on occasion.  This role is usually an NPC, so it's usually controlled by the player who created it.

I notice this with people who also have a tendency to god-mode.  It's not a common occurrence, but I do see it coinciding with god-moders from time to time.

I've traced on occasion, mainly because I needed to crank out something really quickly, and drawing it freehand simply wasn't working out right.  Tracing does have its use.

This guy, though, claims that he does everything by hand.  Even when he's ripping off someone else's fanart.

....Yeah I think a cardboard box would have been better.

I also have an urge to draw a Swinub now for some reason.

Her crate is all fabric, so it's easy to clean.  I use laundry detergent and wash it out in the tub.

Yeah no, that's tracing alright!

Here's the kicker: the guy claimed that he didn't trace, and he acted surprised that "it all lined up so well."

Yeah, no.  He's not fooling anyone.  He said he'll enlarge a reference to the size of the TV screen in his living room.  There is only one reason why anyone would go through that trouble, and that's to put the paper on the screen and trace the image.

She has her kitty crate, which I keep in the coat closet.  It's been washed three times now.  She's peed in it twice, and pooped in it the last time.

I'm actually in the process of throwing out my moving boxes.  Currently, I have them Tetrised in my closet, and they're just taking up far too much space.  Every now and then, I'll pull down a box, break it down, and take it to the Dumpster.

Tossed up a resized sketch card.

Every time I look at it, though, all I can think of is "...this big.  But remember, it's cold in space."

Still no response from TFN's art thief.  I'd rather he just learn from this and change his ways, but I have a feeling that he's going to hide and continue doing the same stuff elsewhere until someone else calls him out on it.  I'm sorry, but tracing a photo, throwing Posterize onto that photo and adding your traced linework to it is not going to fly in a professional setting.  It's also dishonorable.

For crying out loud, the guy thought that tracing a Dr. Horrible image was "art."  Someone on Imgur had the sense to call him out on his bullshit.

This is how the art thief makes his "art."
