I shooed her off so I could do my business.  I'm hoping she teaches herself how to use the toilet.

Perhaps Pokemon is jumping on the same-sex relationship bandwagon?

I actually vaguely cited MSB in my example in that thread. XD

But yes, anything can be adult.  You can tell an adult story and still have it be rated G.  Younger writers tend to be under the impression that for a story to be "adult," then it needs to have drugs, sex, violence, and other "adult" themes.  While, yes, those can be used, they shouldn't be the driving force of your story.  Your story should still be able to stand on its own with those themes removed.

Do you have an interesting character?  Do they have an interesting story to tell?  Do we want to follow that character through their story?  What makes that character interesting?

I'm sorry, but drug addiction does not make a character interesting.  Drug addiction is a glaring weakness.  It is something that needs to be overcome, and if the character's story does not allow them to overcome that weakness, then why should we care?  That character has not grown or changed in any way.

(Let's get this wardrobe change over with.  Giovanni can't be that hard to dress, can he? :P)

Mewtwo waved at Pyro and then looked to Sakura. "I have been to other regions, stayed in one city for a long time, but I did not participate in any intense observation.  I was out at night, mostly kept to myself, but intervened on occasion and either prevented or ended a number of violent incidences.  I had built up quite a reputation, from what I had heard and what little I could read in newspapers."

He glanced down for a moment, and then back to Sakura and N. "The sooner this trial can progress, the sooner it will be over, and the sooner I can leave."

Actually, physical Mewtwo might be fun, just not sure what good physical moves it has access to.

... I think the strongest physical psychic move for it might be Zen Headbutt atm.

Lots of love and attention to get that Mewtwo up to snuff.  I AM UP TO THE CHALLENGE

I should just make it my goal to have a team of weirdos with weird and ineffective stats, just to be a troll trainer. 8D

All mine will have terrible Natures and bad IVs because I can't be arsed to reset all the time. It's there, it's ready for capture, whatever personality it has I get.

So, someone on TFN seems to think that "adult" stories center around "adult" themes such as sex and violence, and drug addiction, as exemplified by their obsession.  It was said the best in that thread that if you take the drug addiction out of your story and it's unable to stand on its own, then you don't have an interesting story to tell.

So, what makes a character's story "adult?"  How do you define "adult" themes?  Should they be linked to rating?

Hell, I lacked a Master Ball in Yellow (Ringman blew it on an Abra) and only one of my Pokemon (my Pidgeot) was up to snuff.  Mewtwo tore through my team like so much wet toilet paper.  I still managed to whittle him down and catch his stubborn ass in a Poke Ball.

I'm a lousy trainer.  But dammit, I'm not going to wuss out just because someone has a team full of Legendaries.  Even if I get my ass handed to me and take out only one with Self-destruct, I'll still count it as a small victory.  I was brave enough to go against an experienced trainer in battle.  That itself is a victory.

Again, if you're a trainer worth your salt, you will find ways to use weaker Pokemon against upper-level Pokemon.  Thus what I said is quite valid.  The stronger trainer will step up to the challenge and use their underdog team to carve a path to victory.  The weaker trainer will ban stronger Pokemon.

It's the same thing as saying that good artists shouldn't enter contests because they will outclass the weaker artists.

Just IBS flaring up.  I should be on medication for it, but I'm not.  More trouble than it's worth, so I just stubbornly power through it.

Mewtwo also have a great move pool to play around with.  I've already started deciding what all he should learn for a nice, well-rounded moveset.  But, yeah, he's un the uber tier, and thus is usually banned.

You know, if you're a real competitive player who's worth your salt, you wouldn't give a fig about tiers and would find ways to beat teams that use upper-tier Pokemon, rather than pussy out and ban them.  Banning them from play is the coward's way.

One of the main reasons why I say to hell with competitive battling.  Mewtwo is always on my team.  In competitions, I'd be booted out before the first match because I'd refuse to take him off my team.

I'm looking forward to the exploration and general training.  I make my own story when playing.  To hell with competitive battling.

Hm.  I'm not sure if the topic starter of this topic really quite understands what makes a work "mature" and "adult."

Also, they should check the boards for similar topics.  I have a topic about violence in fiction.

Wild Joltik has retreated to a corner.  The Joltik usually only prowls around at night, I rarely see it during the day unless I happen to see it sleeping in one of its little tents.
