"So what you're saying is that Giovanni was willing to destroy Mewtwo for his own plans? An ends justify the means type deal?" Phoenix asked.
Ash nodded. "Yeah. I mean, when we intervened, he and Domino came up to stop us. Told us that only he will decide if Mewtwo survives, or not." He nodded out to Domino. "Like I said, Domino has more details. I only met Mewtwo toward the end, there, while hearing about the rest of it from Meowth, so he'll have more information, too."

Giovanni listened for a moment, and then motioned for Payne to lean in close. "Look, they want my reasons for why I want to destroy that beast, they'll get my reasons. I didn't expect Mewtwo to be so damn powerful and so vicious. I wanted a powerful Pokemon, yes, and I did enhance it to make it more aggressive. Aggressiveness is good in battle."
He paused for a moment. "But, I didn't expect it to be so massively powerful. I've gone to great lengths to try and find ways to contain its power, to contain itself, to stop it by any means necessary, and I'll have you know that
that boy there and his friends have stopped my agents. He doesn't realize that I'm trying to
save the world."
He took another sip of his coffee. "If we let Mewtwo go unchecked, the world will only perish."
