Hweet-lox-oh-pettle

But yes, should be fun.  Though, I noticed that at least my Hypno won't respond in the same way as my other Pokemon.  It could be because he's not named and was traded, but I'll need to test that theory with Mewtwo.

I had a thought.  It might not help in your shiny quest, but it won't hurt to try.  Have you switched out the English parent with any of the offspring?  Maybe some inbreeding is needed for that elusive shiny...

(Of course it would be a happy ending! I wouldn't write a sad one.)

"Glad we got 'em," Taylor replied happily.

"Indeed," Sinkovitz nodded, taking pictures of the skinny Zoroark and its half-starved offspring, "these Pokemon have you to thank.  They'll recover, and these Zoruas were lucky to have their mother around.  They're definitely the healthiest of the bunch until her milk ran dry.  Poor things.  I wish we could've found this room sooner..." He snapped a few more pictures of frightened bone-thin Pokemon, and then turned to another subordinate. "Give Wulfric a call, tell him we have a bunch of Pokemon that'll soon be headed to his neck of the woods.  After they recover physically, they'll need someone to help them recover emotionally."

The subordinate nodded and turned away to make the call.

Sinkovitz took a few more pictures of the Pokemon, and then moved on to the lab itself, speaking to another subordinate to document everything they find, bag what's not bolted down, and dust for prints.  His radio crackled and he was alerted to the transport sent by the nearest Pokemon Center, and he told them to come down, but also to be careful, as the crime scene still needed to be processed. "Send the Pokemon to all three Centers, and document their exams.  They're evidence in a crime, and I want a full workup sent to my office.  We'll nail these Flare bastards to the wall."

Merrick arrives back in the creepy, glass-eye staring aftermath of Fallabor Town.  Wasting no time, he heads over to the Pokemon Center to get Jeff only to take notice of the same, glass-eyed stare of the town's Nurse Joy.  It seems even she was affected, possibly due to the trainers coming in just as the dust was being spread throughout the area.

Compressing his lips some, he moves closer to the front desk, observing her lethargic posture, then summoning his scepter and staring at the blue orb atop it in deep contemplation.

Thinking of trying one of the few spells you imprinted off the Hierophant card? Death muses, From what I've gotten since latching onto your back, you haven't used the highest level Esuna spell that affects everyone in your immediate area.

"Maybe not...." Merrick mutters despite knowing that no competent person was going to question his seemingly talking to himself, "But if I can at least use the spell on Nurse Joy, maybe she can figure out an alternative to getting this town back to its lively self...."

He steps back some so as not to shove the scepter in Joy's face as he points it in her direction and grips it with both hands.

"ESUNA!"

The orb glows white as a glowing disc appears below Nurse Joy, causing an purplish aurora to rise around her.  He only hopes that whatever the corrupt doctor put into the powder wasn't intended to block off what little magic he gained from his card counterpart prior to their unexpected separation.

It took a moment, but Nurse Joy blinked a few times, coughed, and then launched into a violent sneezing fit.  She managed to gain some control of it long enough to find a box of tissues, rip off the top, and pull out a handful, blowing her nose.  She sneezed again, blew, sneezed, and blew several times before crumpling the sopping tissue and throwing it away.  She then looked to Merrick. "What happened?" Her nose was clearly stuffed with snot, and she did her best to keep up with her draining sinuses.

Sinkovitz took a look around the room. "Finally!" He looked to a subordinate. "Contact the nearest Pokemon Center, have them send a bus over, we have emaciated Pokemon that need immediate attention!"

The subordinate nodded and turned away to make the call.

Sinkovitz nodded to Taylor. "You did good.  Any longer, and these Pokemon might not have made it." He pulled out a camera and began documenting the scene.

"Good point, so no shipping it off to Kalos," Trak nodded.  She took the time to carefully clean and bandage any neck wounds, having to cut away the stringy ruff. "It needs rehabilitated.  It needs to go somewhere where it'll be cared for and helped.  We can't leave it here." She looked to Joe. "No one is beyond help.  No one."

Han with fridge magnets all over him.  I want that fridge simply for the conversation piece it'll be.

"Hey, got any beer?"

"Oh, sure, just look inside Han."

Trak nodded to Apprentice. "Okay, apparently there's some place we can go that the Bug Catcher's going." She proceeded to bind Hypnoker's arms and legs, and then returned to cleaning its wounds. "Maybe it can be shipped off to the Pokemon Village..."

Runaway's burst of energy had long since faded and he sat on the ground beside Trak as she bandaged the deranged Hypno.  He took the pendulum out of his pocket and looked at it, and then stuffed it back into the pocket and out of reach.

"So, what do we do with it?  We can't just leave it here," Trak looked at the collapsed Hypnoker. "With Fallarbor of no help, we could treat its wounds ourselves and release it somewhere away from town, but it's too dangerous to be left unchecked."

Trak nodded to her bag. "I have some spare Balls.  But, that Hypno should be rehabilitated and released."

Runaway nodded, not wanting Trak to end up with a psychotic Pokemon.  He reached into his pocket and felt the pendulum there, though he didn't take it out.  He's keeping it.

I've yet to actually start the Looker side quest.  I've been mutating Berries, hunting for shinies, and raising an all-Psychic team.  I'm also doing some research in Amie, seeing what else effects what.

I found that your Pokemon will respond to their names.  Runaway responds to his name.  If you speak his name, he'll look up with that orange music note and sparkles.  If you just talk without mentioning his name, no sparkles appear, just the music note.  So, there is some limited speech recognition.

TIME TO TALK TO ONE OF MY OTHER POKEMON WITH THE WEIRD NAMES, LIKE HUITLOXOPETL.

Runaway stuffed the pendulum in his pocket and immediately went to Trak's side, trying to rouse her. "Madamme?  Madamme?"

It took a few moments, but Trak coughed, blinked, and sat up in a daze. "Ughh... what is wrong with that Hypno...?"

Runaway shrugged and hugged Trak, relieved that she was all right.

Trak's vision finally went black and her body went limp.  Runaway bolted at Hypnoker and ripped the pendulum away with one hand while aiming a weakly-muscled Alakazam punch at Hypnoker's head with the other.

Runaway was frozen in place, as he didn't want Hypnoker to hurt Trak, and any of his attacks would only enrage it.

Trak struggled some more, though her vision was starting to go black from the grip on her neck. "Let... let go...!  I won't hurt... you...!"

Noting the blindness, Runaway began to move forward, quietly and quickly.  He just needed to get in reach...

Runaway started forward, but was staid by Hypnoker's raised hand.

Trak grabbed the Pokemon's wrist and tried to wriggle free. "I... I was just... trying--gulp--to help...!"

Trak glanced up while she tended to the Bug Catcher, who was starting to come around. "Behave, you two." She stuck out her tongue, and then returned to what she was doing.

The Bug Catcher sat up in a daze, reeking of the stink that the Hypno carried. "...Where am I?  Last thing I remember was going out to explore..."

Trak merely nodded to the unconscious Hypno. "This might be the reason." Since the Bug Catcher was unharmed, aside from dirt, a bruise or two, a small scrape, and the memory loss, Trak focused on the Hypno, which had clearly been in one very nasty and bloody fight. "What the hell happened?  It looks like someone tried to tear its throat out!" She opened her bag and dug out her first aid kit.

Runaway still stayed a respectable distance away, his brow furrowed.

We didn't have a mouse problem since we had snakes.  My mom's house had three or four black snakes living around or in it.  Mice and rats were rarely an issue, save for the odd one that gets inside.  The bigger problem was having to keep the snakes from coming inside.

Trak dragged the Bug Catcher from the tree, along with the scarred Hypno, as Sakura and Xuangzhang tended to Joe and Zoroark.  Though, once Trak brought the Hypno out into the open, Runaway backed up, shoulders raised.  He pulled the spoons from his pocket and brandished them.

Trak looked down at her hands, noting that they were stained with blood. "They had a nasty, nasty fight..."

"Good idea," Trak pulled out a mask and put it on, but it did little to hide the stench. "Still stinks in there."

Runaway stood stock still where he stopped.  He didn't like the tree or what could be in it.  Everything about it was wrong.  It looked wrong, it felt wrong, and it smelled wrong.

Trak followed Runaway through the woods, noting the silence.  No tweets, no rustle, just that strange warm wind.  Even the clouds--what could be seen through the trees--looked wrong.  Trak started to think back to some stories she read, but quickly purged the notion from her mind.  Cosmic horror was not at work here, and while Wily may have the motives of one, he was not an Eldritch Abomination.

Runaway led Trak through the woods at a quick pace.  However, there was a sense of urgency driving him.  Finally, after a considerable distance through the woods and across a stream by way of a fallen tree, they came upon an isolated clearing.  In the middle of the clearing stood a large dead tree, its gnarly branches clawing impotently at the sky.  A gash opened the tree at its base, with a dirt pile as some sort of fortification.

Runaway stopped about ten feet from the tree and refused to go any farther.  Trak eyed it, and then reached into her bag, pulling out Twoey's ball and a spare--just in case.  Carefully, she approached the tree, alone, and then recoiled, her hand over her face. "It stinks in there!"
